It Seemed My Fiancé Hated Me, So I Distanced Myself—But for Some Reason, He Complained - Chapter 56
“Well, that’s not exactly the case.”
“Is that so? But I heard from my maid that you had another fiancé until recently, Lady Clarissa? Since you broke off that engagement just to become my brother’s potential fiancée, I wondered if you desperately wanted to become queen.”
Princess Avery said this while tilting her head.
A lovely smile and an innocent voice. But I understood she intended to interrogate me.
She was likely trying to gauge whether I was a woman who came here attracted to Prince Lucas’s status.
“I don’t think about wanting to become queen or living in the castle. Though it may sound ungrateful while you’re kindly letting me stay here.”
“Is that so? But I think being queen is a position every young lady in the kingdom dreams of. Are you different, Lady Clarissa?”
“I’m not interested in such things. The reason I came here…”
Princess Avery stared intently at me with her large green eyes. I answered while searching my own feelings.
“…might be because when I saw Prince Lucas’s smiling face, I felt incredibly relieved. So, when His Highness asked if I would become his potential fiancée and come to the castle, I thought nothing could be more wonderful than being able to stay with His Highness from now on. I believe I would have thought the same even if Prince Lucas weren’t the crown prince.”
When I answered, Princess Avery made a complicated face and went “Hmm…”
I could hear Prince Lucas’s voice behind me saying “Clarissa…!” and from the side, I could hear Lady Anastasia scolding him.
“And regarding my former fiancé, it wasn’t because of Prince Lucas that the engagement was called off. Though His Highness did mediate our discussion. I believe my former fiancé and I simply had incompatible personalities from the start. So please don’t worry about that point.”
“Is that so? It’s possible only you feel that way, Lady Clarissa, but I understand for now!”
Princess Avery said with a bright smile.
Though I didn’t think she was completely convinced, I felt relieved for the moment anyway.
Princess Avery cheerfully asked me as I sighed with relief.
“By the way, Lady Clarissa. Have you ever been to the Kingdom of Leshia? It’s the homeland of my and Prince Lucas’s mother.”
“Her Majesty’s homeland. No, I’ve never been.”
“Then why don’t you come with us next time? If you’re going to marry Prince Lucas, I think you should visit countries closely connected to him.”
Princess Avery said with a beaming smile. Though I didn’t think Princess Avery was simply inviting me because she wanted to travel with me, I didn’t see any reason to refuse, so I nodded.
“Yes. I would love to accompany you.”
“Really? It’s a promise! We absolutely must go!”
Princess Avery’s eyes sparkled.
Then she grinned and said.
