It Seemed My Fiancé Hated Me, So I Distanced Myself—But for Some Reason, He Complained - Chapter 55
“I bought it thinking Jenna might like that kind of accessory, but I was worried it might not be to her taste.”
“Only you, brother, would buy me such a lovely bracelet. Though someone as adorable as Avery might suit it better.”
Prince Lucas said cheerfully, while Princess Jenna, though pouting, looked somewhat pleased.
“Jenna is cute too. She should feel free to wear the dresses from that shop. Don’t you agree, Clarissa?”
“Yes. I think she’s very lovely. Princess Jenna’s flowing black hair and fair skin would suit the dresses from Primrose Boutique perfectly, wouldn’t they?”
“Stop it! Flattering me won’t make me accept you as my brother’s fiancée!”
Princess Jenna said with a red face. Though she was being defensive, her voice lacked its usual force.
Then, from behind us, Lady Anastasia’s displeased voice reached our ears.
“Prince Lucas! Please return to your seat! The rule is not to interfere during the tea party!”
“Ah, my apologies, Anastasia.”
Prince Lucas turned around with a start.
That’s right, we were in the middle of a tea party competition. After giving me a meaningful look, Prince Lucas returned to the table behind us as Lady Anastasia had instructed.
“You’re surprisingly careless, aren’t you?”
Princess Jenna said with a haughty expression.
However, her voice no longer held the hostility it had before.
Seeing Princess Jenna’s demeanor, Prince Theodore, seated across from her, seemed to be holding back a laugh.
The previously tense atmosphere between Prince Theodore and Princess Jenna had completely softened.
I let out a sigh of relief.
But only Princess Avery seemed displeased.
“Clarissa, sister Avery is tired! You only talk to Theodore and Jenna and leave me all alone!”
“Ah, my apologies, Princess Avery.”
I hurriedly turned to face Princess Avery.
She gave a sly, mischievous smile.
“Avery has a question for you, Clarissa. Will you answer it?”
“What is it? Please ask anything you’d like.”
“Sister Clarissa, why did you decide to become a candidate for Prince Lucas’s fiancée? Was it because he’s going to be the next king and you wanted to be queen? Or was it because you wanted to live in the castle?”
Princess Avery said while smiling sweetly at me. Beside her, Princess Jenna whispered, “Stop it, Avery,” in my defense.
Of course, that wasn’t the reason, but I was at a loss for how to respond.
