It Seemed My Fiancé Hated Me, So I Distanced Myself—But for Some Reason, He Complained - Chapter 57
“Sister Clarissa. But you should be careful, you know? You’re aware our kingdom doesn’t get along well with the Leshia Kingdom, right? Even though we’re royalty, we have Leshia blood, so there are people who don’t think highly of us. We’ve had attempts on our lives and moments when we nearly vanished from public view.”
“Eh…”
I could feel the room’s atmosphere grow tense at the unsettling words coming from young Prince Avery’s mouth. When I glanced back, Prince Lucas was looking at Prince Avery with a troubled expression.
Prince Theodore and Princess Jenna also seemed uncomfortable, and Prince Theodore in particular appeared to have grown pale.
“So if you marry Brother Lucas, Brother Clarissa might be seen as having sided with the Leshia Kingdom and could become a target for assassination. Aren’t you afraid of that possibility?”
Prince Avery looked directly at me and spoke in a testing tone.
I felt I understood what Prince Avery was trying to probe, so I nodded.
“Yes. I’m prepared for that possibility.”
“Eh?”
When I answered without hesitation, Prince Avery froze for some reason. Then he spoke with slight confusion.
“R-really? You understand? Your life might be targeted, you know?”
“Yes. Even before Prince Lucas brought me out, I was living a life without any hope. So even if that happens, I don’t mind.”
Prince Avery furrowed his brow as if my answer was unexpected and seemed to want to say something.
“You won’t really regret saying that? If you come with us to the Leshia Kingdom, you’ll face opposition from nobles in our country who dislike Leshia.”
“If that happens, there’s nothing to be done about it. More than that, my desire to see the country of Prince Lucas and Prince Avery’s origins is stronger. Your Highness, where would you go when we visit the Leshia Kingdom? Would the Royal Research Institute or the History Museum be good?”
“You answer so casually. And what’s with those stuffy places? Aren’t you going to try to be considerate by choosing places I might want to go?”
Prince Avery said with a furrowed brow. I tilted my head in confusion.
“I thought that’s what Your Highness would like.”
Prince Avery blinked his eyes.
“You think I like such complicated things?”
“Yes. Otherwise, you wouldn’t visit your tutor so diligently, would you?”
I recalled what I’d seen of Prince Avery during the tea party preparation period.
Even from my brief observations, it was clear Prince Avery was quite studious.
I’d seen him multiple times going to his tutor’s room to ask earnest questions, and reading difficult-looking books in the library that you wouldn’t expect an eight-year-old to read.
