I Won Over My Best Friend’s Idol - Chapter 2
“Ding-dong! … Ding-dong! … Ding-dong!”
The doorbell rang urgently, with no intention of stopping. Kong Yinmeng climbed out of bed, looking utterly helpless. No one but that “dead woman” could cause such a commotion.
The moment she opened the door, she was greeted with a massive hug. “Welcome home! Because of special circumstances last night, I couldn’t pick you up. Look, I bought you a deluxe breakfast as an apology. I promise I won’t stand you up next time!”
Kong Yinmeng helplessly took the breakfast and closed the door behind them. “It’s a miracle you could make it to my house before eleven. What, did last night’s ‘wild man’ not suit your taste?”
“How could the flowers and grass outside compare to your importance? You have no idea how I’ve lived these past two weeks that you were away…” Lu Fangcao put on an expression of deep agony.
“Don’t think I haven’t seen your Moments. How did you live? You lived a life of nightly revelry! Come on, speak up, what are you doing here so early?” Kong Yinmeng had slept late last night and still hadn’t quite recovered her energy.
Exposed, Lu Fangcao didn’t feel the least bit embarrassed. The two had been best friends for years; they knew each other’s quirks inside out. She didn’t have many hobbies she just liked handsome guys.
While Kong Yinmeng was eating her pizza, Lu Fangcao pulled out two concert tickets. “Look! I mobilized all my friends and relatives to snag these tickets. They’re in the front row! I can see my husband up close. According to insider info, this is R.S.’s last group concert before they disband. All the group fans who didn’t get tickets are crying their eyes out in the bathroom.”
When she mentioned R.S. was disbanding, her expression wasn’t sad at all, which left Kong Yinmeng feeling quite puzzled.
“Your husband’s group is disbanding, and you’re not sad?” She picked up another slice of pizza. The food she had eaten last night had long since digested. Even if Lu Fangcao hadn’t come, she likely would have been woken up by hunger.
Lu Fangcao waved the tickets, looking completely indifferent. “I’m not a group fan; I’m a Zheng Yi ‘solo stan.’ He’s been doing well individually these past few years. Disbanding is better for him; it saves others from clinging to him and sucking his blood. Let me explain the difference between a group fan and a solo stan. It’s like…”
She went on and on, while Kong Yinmeng nodded perfunctorily in response. A breakfast that was nearly lunch was eaten in a lively atmosphere.
Kong Yinmeng had originally assumed the concert was in the afternoon otherwise, why would Lu Fangcao come looking for her at noon? Little did she know that after eating, she would learn the concert was in the evening. She had been dragged out to go shopping!
And the so-called “shopping” wasn’t just simple purchasing. She stared into the mirror in front of her, her soul seemingly leaving her body. “Is this necessary? It’s just a concert. Do you really have to make it look like we’re attending a gala?”
What she found particularly baffling was that even if Lu Fangcao wanted to get styled, why did she have to drag Kong Yinmeng along?
“It is necessary! This is my first time seeing my ‘husband’ in person; I can’t be careless. You’re going with me, so of course you can’t look casual. Don’t forget to help me get an autographed photo and a group picture later. It’s a rare opportunity keep your hands moving and take as many photos as possible!”
Lu Fangcao was in a state of high excitement. Usually a person with extremely poor patience, she had now been sitting in the chair for an hour and a half without any sign of losing her temper; she even told the stylist to make it perfect.
Kong Yinmeng was drowsy. Before coming to get styled, she had already followed Lu Fangcao shopping for three hours, picking out an outfit that was somewhat bold.
She had a good figure, but to avoid being stared at while traveling, she usually wore casual clothes that weren’t too eye-catching on the street.
But today was different. Lu Fangcao was completely dressing her up as a goddess. Of course, Lu Fangcao was doing the same for herself; in her words, they were both “little fairies” tonight.
Kong Yinmeng: “…” Heh, another day of losing one’s mind over a man. Helplessly, she could only cooperate. Who told her to get used to her friend’s “idiocy” long ago?
The concert started at 7:00 PM. By the time they finished their styling, it was already 5:00 PM. A proper dinner was out of the question. Lu Fangcao, fueled by the “love” for her idol, didn’t feel hungry, but Kong Yinmeng couldn’t take it. She went and bought two jianbing guozi (savory crepes).
“It’s honestly hilarious. We’re wearing beautiful dresses and have stunning hair and makeup, yet here we are, squatting in a corner gnawing on jianbing guozi?” Lu Fangcao started complaining wildly.
“If you don’t want it, give it back. All the suffering I’ve endured today is because of your ‘husband.’ I want to see for myself if he’s a ‘disappointment in person.'” Kong Yinmeng took a fierce bite of her crepe. Since she couldn’t blame her best friend, she could only blame the “stinky man” who had stolen her friend’s heart.
“Brother Zheng!”
“Captain, I missed you so much…”
Zheng Yi hugged his three teammates one by one. Whether it was sincere or for show, at least in front of the cameras, they had to appear loving and united.
R.S. hadn’t been popular for no reason. The four young men were full of youth and vitality, each with his own charm. Their individual prospects after disbanding likely wouldn’t be bad.
“I’ve renewed my contract with the company. What are your plans for the future?” Their contracts with the company were about to expire. The company had treated him well, so he chose to stay. Two of the other teammates were independent and didn’t need him to worry, but he was most concerned about the youngest member, Lan Xiao.
Lan Xiao didn’t talk much, but he loved the stage. It was precisely because of his personality that he wasn’t suited for a solo career, which is why he debuted in a boy band.
“People from ‘Sprout’ came to find me. I’m thinking about it.” Lan Xiao was probably the one among the four who least wanted the group to disband, but he didn’t have the final say. He could only watch as the group moved toward its end. Not very old, he had been suffering from insomnia lately because of this, and could only sleep with the help of medication. Consequently, even with makeup, his complexion didn’t look great.
Sprout Entertainment was considered a company with a good reputation in the industry. So far, no negative scandals had broken out, so Zheng Yi was somewhat satisfied with that.
“If you think it’s a good fit, then sign. Just make sure to have someone you trust look over the contract before you sign it. As long as Sprout is willing to put in the effort, your talent will definitely be seen by more people.”
As the captain, it was necessary to understand each member’s personality and abilities. In his view, Lan Xiao’s only flaw was being too quiet and having a hard time opening up.
“Yeah, I will.” Lan Xiao actually wanted to ask about Zheng Yi’s future plans, but he just couldn’t bring himself to speak. He felt it was a private matter and didn’t want to pry.
Zheng Yi reached out and draped an arm over his shoulder. “Come on, let’s sneak a peek at what’s happening out front. I wasn’t here for the rehearsal yesterday, so I might have missed something. Remember to tell me later. It’s the last time, so we can’t embarrass ourselves.”
The audience seats were already filling up with a massive crowd. However, there weren’t many people in the front row yet. Both of them, having held many concerts, knew that these seats were usually given to people with connections first, and the rest would be sold at high prices.
Because there were few people, and because Lu Fangcao had specifically chosen eye-catching clothes, Zheng Yi spotted them immediately. However, because staff were moving back and forth, he only peeked and didn’t let the people below see him.
“Brother Zheng, what are you smiling at?” Lan Xiao had also been looking out through a small gap. When he turned to speak, he found Zheng Yi smiling.
“We haven’t performed as a group for three years, yet so many people still came. Shouldn’t we be happy?”
Lan Xiao thought about it and felt he was right, though it was also the last time. Thinking of this, he couldn’t quite bring himself to smile.
Besides checking the stage conditions, most of Zheng Yi’s gaze fell upon the two noisy women. As more people took their seats, they settled down and sat properly.
The woman who had given him her business card had already taken out her phone, immersed in it as if the rest of the world had nothing to do with her.
“After the performance is over, I’ll introduce someone to you. She’s a classmate of mine and will keep your secrets. Stop taking those sedative pills; they’re not good for your health,” he said softly.
Lan Xiao’s body stiffened for a moment. An indescribable warmth rose in his heart. If Zheng Yi hadn’t specifically asked around, he wouldn’t have known these things. It meant he hadn’t been forgotten.
“Let’s go, let’s head back and prepare. There’s half an hour left until the opening. Don’t be nervous; just perform normally.” Zheng Yi patted his shoulder to let him relax. Lan Xiao’s mind was sensitive, and his emotions were easily affected by others. Such a personality was very dangerous in the entertainment industry.
The people backstage were in urgent preparation, their nerves taut as they prepared for various emergencies. The people in front of the stage were highly excited.
Kong Yinmeng slightly regretted not bringing headphones, though in this kind of setting, even headphones probably wouldn’t provide much noise cancellation.
“Don’t you find it too noisy?” she yelled into Lu Fangcao’s ear. In return, she got a look meant for a fool. “Do you think your ‘Daddy’s’ nightly clubbing was for nothing? What is this volume to me?”
Kong Yinmeng was speechless again. No wonder Lu Fangcao usually had such a loud voice; it was entirely influenced by her environment. In this kind of setting, if you spoke quietly, only a ghost would hear you.
“Who’s Daddy? Whose Daddy are you? You haven’t seen me for half a month, and I see you’re getting cocky!”
“Huh? What did you say?! I can’t hear you!” Lu Fangcao’s feigned deafness was incredibly obvious, making Kong Yinmeng laugh out of anger. She silently reminded herself not to lower herself to the level of an idiot.
The interaction between the two usually resembled a chaotic comedy, yet they had somehow maintained this relationship for ten years. Thinking about it felt incredible.
The stage music suddenly stopped, and a host came up. Kong Yinmeng naturally didn’t recognize who it was and had to rely on Lu Fangcao’s “pop quiz” style introduction.
“Ahhh… I didn’t expect the host for this concert to be him! He’s been very famous lately. I have to get a photo with him too later. You have another task now.”
Kong Yinmeng felt like she was truly just a “tool.” No wonder she had to be brought along; women are truly terrifying when they go crazy!!
As the host finished the introduction, the originally brightly lit stage suddenly went dark. Those in the back might not have seen clearly, but Kong Yinmeng, being in the front row, could see a group of people slipping onto the stage.
When the lights brightened again, they were already standing in their respective positions. Waiting only for the music to start, a warm-up dance officially kicked off the concert.
The audience was too passionate, and without realizing it, Kong Yinmeng found herself being infected by the energy.
