- Chapter 76 - Affectionate Extra (Part 1)
When the crystal was destroyed, Yu Peirong sneezed. She immediately exited the game and replied to Qi Xiyao’s message.
“Wait for me next round. I’ll be home in three minutes.”
She had already noticed that Qi Xiyao started streaming while she was still on the road. Originally, she just wanted to quietly watch her wife play. But seeing all those people in the live chat calling Qi Xiyao “wife” so boldly left a bitter taste in her mouth.
Previously, Qi Xiyao had told her she was planning to stream.
Her popularity had been growing rapidly, and she had gained quite a few fans. She thought it would be fun to play games with them. For this particular stream, Qi Xiyao planned to stay live for a longer session. She wanted to start off playing with Gu Jinhua and Zheng Xiuxue, then randomly pick a few fans to join her in-game later.
The thought that some of those fans might get into a voice chat and directly call Qi Xiyao “wife” made Yu Peirong feel a strong surge of jealousy.
She did not mind her wife playing games with fans. What she could not accept was people trying to flirt or get too familiar with her wife while playing.
Yu Peirong was not very familiar with this MOBA tower defense game, but she had played it a few times before. She figured it would not be too hard to get back into it.
So, when Qi Xiyao started matchmaking, Yu Peirong joined in as well.
She had hoped to finish her own match around the same time as Qi Xiyao, just to kill some time on the road and warm up her hands a little. But unexpectedly, she ended up being matched on the opposing team.
Luckily, she was using a small alternate account that no one recognized.
When Yu Peirong arrived home, she turned off the autopilot and parked the car quickly. Then she rushed upstairs.
As she stepped inside, Qi Xiyao was chatting with her viewers. When she saw Yu Peirong return, she immediately waved her over.
“I just drew a fan to play a five-stack match. What rank are you right now?”
Yu Peirong quickly recalled Qi Xiyao’s current rank. While on the way home, she had actually bought several accounts, each with all heroes and skins unlocked, across different rank levels. She had done this just to make sure she could play with her wife no matter what the matchmaking required.
After thinking for a second, she gave a reply that would match Qi Xiyao’s current rank.
“Star-tier, level two.”
Qi Xiyao had her audio playing through the speakers instead of headphones, so Yu Peirong’s voice came through loud and clear. Zheng Xiuxue exclaimed in surprise.
“Wow, sis, you’re already Star-tier two? I’ve had so much free time and I’m still only at Star-tier one!”
Yu Peirong logged into one of the accounts and tried to change her username to “Qi Xiyao’s One and Only Official Wife.” However, the name was already taken. She quickly tried several similar versions, but they were all unavailable. Frustrated, she bit her lip in annoyance.
In the end, she just picked a random English name. At that moment, the fan named “KissKissYaoYaoBabyFace” joined the team.
[KissKissYaoYaoBabyFace]: Aaaaah goddess!
[KissKissYaoYaoBabyFace]: Am I dreaming? Is this really happening? Is that really YaoYao?
[KissKissYaoYaoBabyFace]: QWQ
Yu Peirong picked up a hair tie from the sink and held it in her mouth while typing with a calm expression.
[yywife]: You are not dreaming.
[yywife]: That is indeed my wife.
After typing that, she put down her phone and began tying her hair while waiting for the match to start. She did not notice what “KissKissYaoYaoBabyFace” typed after that.
As they were selecting heroes, Qi Xiyao turned and asked sweetly,
“What do you want to play, babe?”
Yu Peirong was not sure what to choose. She did not know many heroes, but she did not want to seem inexperienced in front of her wife. So she replied,
“You all pick first. I will fill in.”
Qi Xiyao chose to play jungler, Gu Jinhua picked marksman, and Zheng Xiuxue chose the top lane. Yu Peirong decided to play support. She remembered a guide she had looked up earlier while gaming and locked in a healer.
Then Zheng Xiuxue casually said, “I would love to have a hook support to combo with.” At the last second, Qi Xiyao reached over and locked in the hook character for her.
Qi Xiyao turned her head and smiled sweetly at Yu Peirong.
“Babe, I’m counting on you.”
The stream chat lit up with congratulations and excitement.
[Looking forward to Sister Rong carrying the game!]
[She totally looks like a pro. Hehehe.]
[How did I get so lucky to watch my two goddesses play together? Dreams do come true. Jungle and Support combo!]
[It’s the opposite of what I imagined, but still so exciting.]
However, just a few minutes into the match, Yu Peirong gave them a very vivid and honest demonstration of what it meant to have enthusiasm but very little skill.
At first, Zheng Xiuxue thought Yu Peirong had recognized Qi Xiyao on the enemy team and was deliberately throwing the match to help her wife win. That would not be very fair, but considering that Yu Peirong was still in the honeymoon phase as an Alpha, Zheng Xiuxue could understand it.
But then she realized that Yu Peirong was not acting. She was genuinely inexperienced.
She kept missing hooks or, worse, dragging full-health enemy tanks into the middle of the team, forcing fights they could not win. Even someone as patient as Zheng Xiuxue eventually could not take it anymore.
She cried out in frustration.
“Can you please focus a bit? Your wife is on our team!”
Yu Peirong answered confidently, “I know. That’s why I’m hooking the enemy over so you can all attack them.”
Gu Jinhua used her skills quickly to finish off an enemy, then sighed and said,
“We did ask you to hook someone, but not to drag a full-health tank into us. Never mind. Just be careful next time.”
Since Yu Peirong was Zheng Xiuxue’s older sister, she could not say much more without ruining the mood.
Yu Peirong, however, did not seem embarrassed at all. She was clearly trying her best. But despite her efforts, they still lost the first game.
In the second match, Yu Peirong chose a healer and stayed by Qi Xiyao’s side from the very beginning. The two of them moved together almost like they were joined at the hip.
Fortunately, matches at Star-tier and low-rank King were not too challenging. The opponents did not have the best awareness, and Qi Xiyao’s reflexes were sharp. Once the two of them started gaining momentum, they quickly took control of an entire lane.
For the first time, Yu Peirong experienced just how thrilling and exciting a competitive game could be.
By the time the third and fourth matches ended, several fans had already rotated in and out. Zheng Xiuxue said she had something to take care of and logged off. Naturally, Gu Jinhua did not want to third-wheel a couple, so she quickly excused herself as well.
Once only the two of them remained, Qi Xiyao noticed Yu Peirong becoming more and more absorbed in the game. She smiled softly, lips curving in amusement.
Without saying much, she started queueing for a fifth match.
Yu Peirong asked, “Aren’t you bringing a fan in?”
While adjusting her runes, Qi Xiyao let out a quiet laugh, as if remembering something.
“I would, but I’m really afraid my jealous little jar at home might tip over.” She suddenly looked up at Yu Peirong, her eyes full of playful teasing. “How about you pretend to be my fan? I’ll carry you.”
Yu Peirong clicked her tongue, but still obediently joined Qi Xiyao’s game lobby.
And she had to admit, her wife was very good at driving in this particular area. They played well into the night, past midnight. Yu Peirong spent most of that time relaxing, comfortably lying back while playing.
Their match history showed a clean, glowing streak of victories. The fans in the livestream chat were all night owls, still begging for one more round.
Yu Peirong stretched her arms. As an Alpha, staying up this late did not bother her much. By now, she had also picked up quite a few tricks and no longer played as poorly as she did at the start. Still, seeing that Qi Xiyao looked a little tired, she stood up and walked over to the streaming setup.
Viewers in the chat saw a bright and charming face appear on-screen, leaning close to Qi Xiyao. Yu Peirong gently brushed aside Qi Xiyao’s hair and helped her fix it, her movements soft and familiar. She then picked up a cup of floral tea that had been resting on a heating pad and brought it to Qi Xiyao’s lips, letting her take a small sip.
“In two days, I’ll be joining the film crew. I need to get some proper rest before that. Next time we see each other might be after filming ends.”
When Qi Xiyao was filming, she rarely updated her social media or made public appearances. She didn’t feel the need to maintain her fanbase constantly unless she had spare time.
Fans often joked that every time she joined a crew, it was like being kidnapped for several months. They could only wait patiently for her to wrap up filming.
“This time isn’t so bad,” Qi Xiyao replied. “It should be a relatively short shoot, around three months.”
For an actor, a three-month shooting schedule was considered average. Some productions lasted even longer, sometimes up to half a year. As soon as she said this, the livestream chat was flooded with messages like “President Yu, please keep an eye on YaoYao for us.”
Yu Peirong smiled as she responded to each message. After saying goodbye to the fans, she finally ended the stream.
The moment she turned off the microphone, Qi Xiyao immediately asked if that hook player earlier had been her. When Yu Peirong confirmed it, Qi Xiyao burst into laughter, nearly doubling over.
“Why did you suddenly go offline back then?” she asked while wiping away tears from laughing. At the time, Qi Xiyao thought it couldn’t have been Yu Peirong, since she usually wouldn’t ditch her teammates mid-match. But then the player had quickly come back online, and she couldn’t figure out what had happened.
Yu Peirong thought for a moment, then replied seriously.
“I hadn’t really played the game before, so I wanted to look up how to mute someone.”
She had heard that this game allowed players to block others’ messages. At the beginning of the match, someone on the other team started blaming her for losing the lane to Qi Xiyao, and later began cursing. So Yu Peirong muted the player and reported them. After that, things felt much more peaceful.
Qi Xiyao recalled how that person had once paused in the bushes to type something, then eventually continued playing. She guessed they realized Yu Peirong had blocked their messages. The memory of Yu Peirong earnestly looking up game guides made her laugh again. She leaned over the desk, nearly knocking over her rose tea.
Yu Peirong quickly moved the cup out of the way and sat down beside her. Pressing her cheek gently against Qi Xiyao’s, she spoke with a shy and slightly playful tone.
“If you think I’m bad at it, I’ll practice more later. I’ll definitely get better than I am now. I’m sure I can be stronger than that other person. She even called you ‘wife’ right in front of me…”
Just thinking about it made Yu Peirong upset. That person had the nerve to ask, “Was I amazing just now, wife?” which had definitely crossed the line from playful teasing into something more serious. After the stream ended, Yu Peirong logged into her account. As a channel moderator, she immediately gave that user a full 999-day mute punishment.
“There’s no need to go that far,” Qi Xiyao said, suddenly feeling that the air around them was thick with the scent of jealousy. She gently hooked a finger under Yu Peirong’s chin, her eyes seductive and smiling.
“Call me ‘sister’ and I’ll carry you from now on.”
