I Transmigrated into a Scummy Alpha and Stole the Heroine from Her Tragic Romance - Chapter 27
The voice on the other end was soft and sweet. From the sound alone, it was clear the speaker was an Omega whose vocal charm was at least equal to Qi Xiyao’s. The crisp voice echoed just outside the changing room, and Yu Peirong’s hands froze in place. She instinctively wanted to shut the chat app.
At the same time, she cautiously turned to glance toward the changing room curtain, as if trying to read Qi Xiyao’s expression through it.
A wave of embarrassment rushed straight to her head.
In that brief moment, Yu Peirong imagined many things—perhaps some unresolved romantic debt the original host had left behind, or a casual hookup in its ambiguous early stage.
After all, in the novel, the original host was written to be the worst kind of womanizer. Yu Peirong even suspected that the author, realizing how repulsive the male lead was, deliberately wrote the original host as a toxic foil just to make the male lead look slightly less awful by comparison.
Yu Peirong certainly had no intention of letting this person stay over, but thankfully, she had the perfect excuse. She was currently on set, and there was no way she could leave freely.
The voice had already played aloud. Not replying at all would only seem suspicious, so Yu Peirong responded right away using the reason she had just come up with.
The other person replied quickly. Even after hearing Yu Peirong’s nearly clear rejection, she didn’t sound disappointed at all.
“You’re on set? With that Qi Xiyao? Then how about the three of us go out for dinner? I really missed you. I want to be with you.”
S City was where both of them had originally lived, and the filming city, Y City, was only an hour away by high-speed train. It was not hard to travel between them. Yu Peirong still wasn’t sure what kind of relationship the original host had with this person. She was about to refuse when she noticed Qi Xiyao lifting her hand and pulling back the curtain that separated them.
“My scenes will be finished soon.”
Qi Xiyao spoke calmly, but the meaning was clear. She would be free to go out that evening.
This set wasn’t particularly strict. It wasn’t under lockdown or high-level secrecy. The only rule was that paparazzi weren’t allowed on set. Reporters were still allowed to do interviews, and the crew occasionally posted vlogs to share with fans.
In this relaxed atmosphere, leaving set only required a quick heads-up.
Yu Peirong turned to her, hesitating. “You’re feeling better now?”
The idea of Qi Xiyao joining her and a possibly flirtatious stranger with unclear ties to the original host made the whole situation feel oddly tense.
Just as Yu Peirong was about to come up with another excuse to say no, Qi Xiyao smiled helplessly. There was a glint of playful mischief in her eyes.
“The results from the police station came out yesterday. Today I need to get DNA and pheromone samples taken to use as evidence for the case. Since you’re going out for dinner anyway, Sister Rong, can I get a ride?”
Yu Peirong let out a quiet breath. She didn’t mind giving her a ride.
Originally, she had planned to completely refuse the other person, but then she realized the original host had left behind all kinds of unresolved messes. If she kept avoiding them, those problems could build up and eventually become disasters.
Thinking that way, Yu Peirong sighed inwardly and decided to go meet the person who clearly knew the original host well.
Unless it was a major emergency, the system no longer gave her identity hints. Just thinking about the incomplete missions she still owed made Yu Peirong’s head hurt.
It would be best to clean this one up entirely. Just like how she had cut off those chaotic relationships with a few wealthy figures back at the banquet—after returning, she deleted and blocked every one of them as long as there wasn’t too much overlap.
After dropping Qi Xiyao off at the police station, Yu Peirong got a call from that Omega, who said she was almost at the high-speed rail station and asked to be picked up.
At that moment, Qi Xiyao was still in the car, trying to undo her seatbelt. Yu Peirong’s phone was connected to the car’s smart AI, so the call was automatically answered through the speaker.
From the Bluetooth speaker came a sweet Omega voice filled with natural affection. Her tone was soft and full of playful complaint.
“Sister Rong, Y City is so cold. I’m freezing. Why aren’t you here yet? I’m already at Exit A of the station. If you don’t show up in ten minutes, I’ll be really mad!”
Yu Peirong rubbed her temple and glanced at the glowing screen in the dark car. The soft blue light flickered in the shadows, casting a gentle glow on Qi Xiyao’s face, highlighting the sharp angles of her features and the shadows on her cheeks.
“Still can’t get the seatbelt off?”
She had never been particularly fond of overly cutesy voices. In fact, she found them a little annoying. Ignoring the person on the call, she turned her attention to Qi Xiyao.
This car had been modified, and the seatbelt was indeed not easy to unfasten. The seats were custom-made and reclined slightly, making it more comfortable for lounging than sitting upright. For someone unfamiliar, it was normal to have trouble with it.
Qi Xiyao’s hand hovered near the release button. Her fingers were delicate and smooth, typical of an Omega. Her hands were slightly smaller than Yu Peirong’s, making them appear even more dainty.
When Yu Peirong helped her unbuckle the seatbelt, their skin brushed for a moment. That brief contact sent a tingling sensation racing across her nerves.
Yu Peirong’s breathing hitched slightly, but she quickly composed herself. She pulled her hand away in a calm and proper manner, as if the accidental touch had been nothing out of the ordinary.
Once Qi Xiyao was out of sight, Yu Peirong finally turned the car toward the high-speed rail station.
The caller’s full name was Min Min.
Yu Peirong had no memory of anyone by that name. But when they finally met, something clicked. The name had been mentioned once in passing in the novel. A character so minor she had almost forgotten them.
She and the original host had met as children. Min Min was about four or five years younger and had grown up spoiled and pampered. She was cheerful, talkative, and loved to act cute. Back then, their relationship was just friendly, but Min Min was naturally clingy and treated people warmly. She had come to this city on business and insisted on stopping by to see Yu Peirong.
Even though she hadn’t invited her, it would have seemed cold to turn her away.
Yu Peirong brought her to a seven-star hotel and booked a private dining room at the last minute. She made sure to keep things discreet.
She had already been seen too much lately and didn’t want anyone recognizing her mid-meal or posting pictures online. Across from her, Min Min chatted nonstop. Yu Peirong had no interest in the conversation and responded politely but distantly.
What surprised her most was that despite the soft and sweet voice, Min Min was not an Omega at all but an Alpha. That explained why she had been so eager and excited to track her down.
Since Yu Peirong publicly presented herself as an Omega, the natural attraction between Alphas and Omegas could not be ignored.
When the food was served, the first dish brought to the table was steamed sea bass. The broth was a creamy white and still steaming. Small cubes of tofu carved into flower shapes floated gently in the soup. Without asking, the person across from her used her own spoon to scoop up a piece and placed it directly into Yu Peirong’s dish.
Yu Peirong paused briefly. She did not react outwardly, but a few seconds later, she quietly pushed the tofu aside and covered it with a napkin.
She didn’t have a problem with cleanliness, but she strongly disliked people who did not respect boundaries. Min Min still hadn’t realized Yu Peirong was uncomfortable. She continued chatting on her own, cheerful and talkative as always. Only when she saw the tofu being pushed away did her expression change slightly.
“Sister Rong, you’ve changed. You used to say you didn’t mind things like that.”
Min Min pouted with a hint of frustration. To be fair, she was a good-looking Alpha. She was different from most Alphas, with a sweet and pretty face and a soft, warm voice. Right now, her tone was half whining, half complaining. If it weren’t for her lack of self-awareness, she would have been quite likable to almost anyone.
In fact, Min Min was the kind of Alpha who looked and acted like an Omega. Alphas like her were actually quite popular. Some Alphas would be drawn to her, and mature Omegas often liked gentle and considerate partners like her.
But Yu Peirong wasn’t a naturally born Alpha. After arriving in this world, she had developed an Alpha’s gland, but her mindset and values were not the same as those raised in this system.
She didn’t have that deep possessiveness or controlling nature toward Omegas that many Alphas seemed to have. She had no twisted expectations that the person she liked should be obedient, delicate, or submissive.
She had no interest in Min Min’s flirtatious behavior, even if it worked perfectly on others.
After finally sensing Yu Peirong’s disapproval, Min Min became more cautious and no longer acted so forward.
After dinner, Yu Peirong offered to drive her back to her hotel. Coincidentally, Min Min’s hotel was right next to the police station where Qi Xiyao had gone for her case. After getting out of the car, Min Min tried to get her to come upstairs for a bit. Yu Peirong politely declined, and Min Min shrugged with a playful complaint.
When Min Min reached out to grab her hand with a grin, Yu Peirong stepped back with a light smile that was polite but distant.
“The past is the past. I admit I made a lot of mistakes before.”
The things the original host had done weren’t entirely unforgivable, but she had acted on some dark thoughts, and that could not be ignored. Yu Peirong had no choice but to accept that responsibility.
She cleared her throat and quickly came up with a perfect way to decline any further advances.
“But now, I like someone. An Omega.”
As the words left her mouth, she met Min Min’s shocked expression. Her lips lifted into a gentle smile, and her tone carried a calm happiness. She spoke with the seriousness of someone making an important declaration.
“I like her so much. She’s the reason I’m trying to become a better person. For her, I’m willing to change completely.”
Min Min’s disbelief slowly turned into confusion and discomfort. After a long pause, she finally spoke with hesitation.
“Which Omega do you like? But you’re an Omega too. How could an Omega possibly like you…”
Yu Peirong was just about to reply when the sound of high heels rang out behind her. A familiar, soft voice followed. This time, the tone was steady and firm, leaving no room for doubt.
“Sister Rong likes me. And you, miss, should really mind your own business.”
