I Transmigrated into a Scummy Alpha and Stole the Heroine from Her Tragic Romance - Chapter 26
The room was silent for a long time. Yu Peirong didn’t answer.
Her ears were burning, and her heart pounded like it was trying to burst free and reveal what she was really feeling in that moment.
She had taken off her shoes after entering the room. The soft carpet under her feet felt like walking on cotton. Qi Xiyao was barefoot too, standing on the rug with her pale ankles and toes painted in bright red nail polish that stood out vividly.
Those eyes were looking straight at her, full of unsaid emotion, then slowly looked away.
“I…”
Yu Peirong had no idea why Qi Xiyao would ask such a question. Just earlier, things between them had still been awkward. Moving out today should have been the most natural thing in the world.
Qi Xiyao seemed to sense her hesitation. She pressed her lips together. There was a quiet disappointment in her voice, though she quickly turned her face away as if trying to hide it.
“Sorry, I was being too forward. I’ll move out. You’ve worked hard. You should stay and get some rest.”
Yu Peirong didn’t speak. It wasn’t until she saw Qi Xiyao turn and start to gather her things that she suddenly came to her senses and reached out to stop her.
“Don’t. Don’t go.”
Her reaction happened in a flash. She grabbed Qi Xiyao with too much force, and the woman stumbled slightly, almost falling into her arms. The softness of her body and the warmth in her embrace made Yu Peirong’s heart skip a beat. The heat that had just settled inside her flared up again. She had the sudden urge to let go and go drink cold water just to cool down.
But on the surface, she forced herself to stay calm. She swallowed her embarrassment and said stiffly, “You left in such a rush. It made it seem like I bullied you or something.”
Qi Xiyao quickly replied, “No, last night…”
As soon as she spoke, Yu Peirong remembered that rushed kiss in the car. Her face instantly flushed. Thankfully, the room lighting was dim, and it wasn’t easy to see her clearly. She tried her best to steady her breathing and calm her pounding heart.
She felt embarrassed and a little annoyed with herself.
She had been in the industry for six or seven years already and rarely took on roles with intimate scenes. Compared to sweet romantic dramas, she had always preferred serious and dramatic scripts.
The closest thing she had ever filmed was a pretend kiss shot at a distance. She had never even touched someone else’s face on screen. And yesterday, while it was true Qi Xiyao had been the one to initiate the kiss, she had also responded. Now bringing it up again felt like she was being overly sensitive.
“Last night was my fault.”
As she spiraled into her thoughts, Qi Xiyao stepped closer. They were so near now that if Yu Peirong just lowered her head a little, she could easily press a kiss to the woman’s lips again, which still looked slightly flushed.
This strange feeling was completely new to Yu Peirong, and it startled her.
Qi Xiyao had a very refined and elegant look. Unlike many other Omegas who gave off a simple sweetness or gentle air, her features were sharp and well-defined. Her nose bridge was straight, and her facial curves were graceful. Yu Peirong had noticed back when they took the official cast photos that Qi Xiyao’s face looked great on camera.
Now her face was right in front of her. Yu Peirong could even feel the warm breath brushing against her skin.
Because of the closeness, Qi Xiyao had to tilt her head slightly to meet Yu Peirong’s gaze. Her voice was soft and sweet, typical of an Omega.
“I wasn’t feeling well at the time. My mind was fuzzy, and I couldn’t control myself.”
“It’s fine,” Yu Peirong replied, her voice slightly stiff. “Let’s not talk about it anymore.”
She couldn’t possibly blame her.
Yu Peirong had studied this world’s physiology and knew that when Omegas entered their heat cycle, their control over their bodies weakened. Especially in the days leading up to it, they became much more sensitive than usual.
If exposed to an Alpha’s pheromones during that time, it could trigger the heat early.
Qi Xiyao had been caught off guard. The pheromones from those two Alphas had nearly pushed her into an early heat. While it hadn’t reached the point where she absolutely needed an Alpha to help her through it, it had still been very uncomfortable. She had no choice but to seek relief through other means.
What Yu Peirong didn’t understand was, if it wasn’t Yu Shang, then who hated Qi Xiyao so much that they would go this far just to ruin her?
If she had arrived just a moment later, Qi Xiyao might have ended up being harassed or even forcibly marked by an Alpha right there on the street. Or maybe she would have fought back and gotten herself seriously hurt. Either outcome would have turned into a massive scandal.
There were still many people in this world who held outdated and cruel prejudices against Omegas, treating them like fragile vines clinging to others. When Yu Peirong had arrived at the scene, she saw a crowd of people just standing around recording videos, not helping at all. It wasn’t hard to imagine the public reaction if Qi Xiyao had been filmed in a disheveled state and those images spread online.
If it wasn’t pure hatred, why else would someone go to such lengths to destroy her completely?
When Yu Peirong woke up, the bed beside her was empty. She reached out instinctively toward the nightstand to grab her phone, ready to call. But instead, she saw a handwritten note from Qi Xiyao.
“I went to finish filming. No need to worry, Sister Rong (▽)
There’s lemon yogurt and soda crackers on the table. Have a snack when you wake up.”
With that playful emoji at the end, the words “Sister Rong” didn’t sound cold or distant at all. Instead, they felt sweet, like a little act of affection.
After a good night’s sleep, Yu Peirong felt refreshed. Her mood was much better too. She sent a message to Qi Xiyao, and a few minutes later, received a voice reply that put her completely at ease.
It seemed Qi Xiyao had just finished part of her shoot and was resting. Her voice came through the speaker, still soft and sweet.
“Sister Rong, are you awake?”
“Just woke up,” Yu Peirong replied.
She was about to put her phone down when another message popped up.
“Sorry about what happened last night. You don’t hate me now, do you?”
Her tone was light and cute, especially at the end where her voice rose slightly. It was sweet but not forced at all. She sounded like a beautiful little kitten snuggling up and waiting to be petted.
Yu Peirong couldn’t help but smile.
She didn’t respond to that question directly. Instead, she typed:
“No one else calls me Sister except you.”
A while back, Yu Peirong had ordered a small box of lemon yogurt for her office. Qi Xiyao had arranged for another delivery today. She opened one, inserted the straw, and took a sip.
After a quick wash, she sat down on the soft leather couch and drank her yogurt while sending messages to a few people.
She asked HR to check into Qi Xiyao’s assistant, sent a message to Zhao Siyan, and replied to Yu Shang. He responded quickly, acting like he cared about Qi Xiyao’s well-being. But Yu Peirong shut him down by talking about work.
She also reviewed the old chat history between Zhao Siyan and the original host. Zhao Siyan had always been flattering and eager to respond right away, but now she was oddly quiet.
Suspicion grew in Yu Peirong’s mind. She called directly.
But it was as if Zhao Siyan had disappeared. She didn’t reply and didn’t pick up the phone either.
How interesting.
That woman’s suspicious behavior was almost written on her face.
Yu Peirong instinctively wanted to ask her secretary to look into it, but then she remembered that her assistant was no longer trustworthy. The original host had very little influence in the company. Most people only respected her on the surface because of her authority, but deep down, they likely already sided with Yu Shang.
Thinking of this, Yu Peirong slowly lowered her hand and stopped herself from making the call.
Meanwhile, on the other side.
As the screen showing the incoming call disappeared and their chat history updated to “Missed video call,” Zhao Siyan finally let out a quiet breath. She turned her head toward the man sitting beside her.
In a private breakfast room, Yu Shang’s lips curled into a cold and intimidating smile. His sharp gaze lingered on her for a moment before slowly shifting away.
Without a word, he reached out and took her phone as easily as a teacher confiscating a student’s contraband. Zhao Siyan’s face flushed bright red. Her lips parted slightly, but in the end, no words came out.
She was breathing heavily, her forehead covered in sweat. Even her voice came out hoarse and shaky. The sound startled even her, and her cheeks turned an even deeper red as she looked toward Yu Shang.
“Brother Shang, why did Sister Rong suddenly call me just now? I’ve been ignoring her calls and messages. Won’t that make her suspicious? Should I find time to meet her and calm her down?”
Yu Shang said nothing, his face unreadable.
“Or I can try messaging her,” Zhao Siyan continued nervously. “I promise I won’t say the wrong thing this time. I’ll send it now.”
Seeing that he still hadn’t responded, Zhao Siyan tried to reach for her phone, hoping to salvage the situation. But as soon as her hand moved, Yu Shang caught her wrist in a tight grip.
A flicker of shy hope flashed in her eyes, but it vanished the next second.
With a loud slap, his hand struck her face, the sound echoing sharply in the room. Zhao Siyan stared at him in shock, completely frozen. Her mind went blank as she looked at the man whose face had turned dark and furious.
The man who usually appeared so gentle and polite now looked like a wild animal that had been provoked. His eyes were filled with fury, and there was a faint red tinge at the corners. Facing Zhao Siyan, Yu Shang spoke through clenched teeth, the anger in his voice sharp and bitter.
“Who told you to mess with Qi Xiyao? Do you have any idea what she…”
Before he could finish, a low and distinctive ringtone interrupted his outburst. Zhao Siyan instinctively looked up, but before she could react, Yu Shang had already hung up the call with a swift motion.
He clutched the phone tightly in his hand. The screen still showed the incoming call notification, and if anyone had looked closely, they would have seen that the caller was listed as Director Wu from the psychiatric department.
Qi Xiyao had just finished shooting a scene, and since her assistant was nowhere to be found, Yu Peirong stepped in to help coordinate things.
Qi Xiyao was changing outfits to head to the next filming location. She casually handed her costume over to Yu Peirong while she changed. The weather was still cool, but the outfit she was wearing was quite thin, revealing the pale skin of her slender wrist.
Although Yu Peirong had played all kinds of characters before, this was one of the rare times she was actually taking care of someone. She was clearly a little flustered. As she bent down to pick something up from the ground, her phone slipped from her hand and landed on the carpet. The screen lit up and displayed a chat interface with a name she didn’t really recognize.
She quickly swiped her finger across the screen but accidentally tapped the speaker button.
A sweet and cheerful female voice rang out clearly from the phone.
“Sister Rong, I’m in S City now. Can I stay with you tonight?”
