I Stole the Male Lead's White Moonlight [Transmigration] - Chapter 49
Zhu Xinya checked the time on her phone and realized it was almost five o’clock.
“Sister, the guest star will be here soon. Let’s get up,” Zhu Xinya said as she sat up in bed.
After washing up and getting dressed, the two left their room. Zhu Xinya knocked on the door of the neighboring girls’ dorm, but there was no answer. Pushing the door open, she found that Hu Caicai wasn’t inside.
Had they already started preparing the meal?
Zhu Xinya hurried downstairs, but Que Hanfu reached out and stopped her. “Slow down. A minute or two won’t make a difference.”
Held back by Que Hanfu, Zhu Xinya descended the stairs at a leisurely pace.
The staircase faced the living room, and halfway down, they saw the sofa filled with people. Besides Hu Caicai, Jiang Huai, and Jin Sheng, there was another strikingly familiar figure.
“Qi Zhou? So you’re the one who ordered the boiled fish!” Zhu Xinya exclaimed in surprise.
Hearing her voice, Qi Zhou turned around and greeted Zhu Xinya calmly. He had already seen the guest list and knew she would be there.
“Didn’t expect it, did you? That was the whole point,” Qi Zhou said with a teasing smile.
But when Que Hanfu appeared behind Zhu Xinya, Qi Zhou grew slightly uneasy.
He felt as if there were needles under the cushion, making it impossible for him to sit still.
Though he had already realized he was in love with Lu Mengrou and no longer had feelings for Que Hanfu, he still regarded her with admiration. Seeing her now made him instinctively tense.
“Hanfu, so you’re the other guest. I had no idea,” he said. If he had known, he wouldn’t have come.
To win Lu Mengrou’s forgiveness, he had confessed his past crush on Que Hanfu. They had finally cleared things up, and if Lu Mengrou saw him and Que Hanfu on the same show, she might misunderstand again.
Que Hanfu gave Qi Zhou a faint nod, her attitude rather aloof.
Hu Caicai remarked, “This show really knows how to pick guests. All the newcomers actually know each other!”
Jiang Huai asked curiously, “Brother Qi, how do you know Professor Que and Xinya?”
Zhu Xinya led Que Hanfu to the coffee table and sat down. Seeing that neither of them sat next to him, Qi Zhou relaxed slightly.
Hearing Jiang Huai’s question, he replied, “Xinya and I worked together on Fangting’s Forgotten Dream.”
Hu Caicai clapped her hands in realization. “Now I remember! There was that scandal with the director and assistant director of Fangting’s Forgotten Dream trying to exploit two actresses Zhu Xinya and Que Hanfu. So it was you two!”
“You’re amazing! I saw the posts on Weibo and really admired you both. I even followed you on my alternate account. No wonder I felt so close to you from the start, you look just like your promotional photos, but even prettier!” After recognizing them, Hu Caicai became an instant fan, her eyes sparkling as she looked at them.
Zhu Xinya took out her phone and said, “Come on, don’t just follow me with your alternate account. Let’s follow each other with our main accounts.”
Jiang Huai raised his hand. “Count me in!”
Jin Sheng didn’t say anything but quietly took out his phone, opened Weibo, and followed everyone. Zhu Xinya checked her new followers and was surprised to see Jin Sheng’s name. “Oh my gosh! Teacher Jin followed me!” she exclaimed, immediately following him back.
Jiang Huai and Hu Caicai also gasped in surprise. “Teacher Jin followed me too!”
Jin Sheng smiled, “Just joining in the fun.”
Last month, Qi Zhou and Jin Sheng were taken by the director of Fangting’s Dream to a social gathering. There, Jin Sheng exchanged a few words with Qi Zhou. Since the director praised Qi Zhou’s acting skills, Jin Sheng gave the director face by following Qi Zhou back on Weibo.
The news of Qi Zhou being followed by the film emperor trended on Weibo for three days. His fans, the “Rice Congee” group, were overjoyed, feeling that their idol had finally gained recognition.
As for Que Hanfu, besides well-known domestic entrepreneurs and celebrities, even international movie stars were among her followers. Jin Sheng following her didn’t cause much of a stir.
After that incident broke out, Que Hanfu gained millions of followers. Some idle individuals went through her follower list and picked out dozens of notable figures. Because of this, Que Hanfu’s followers soared to tens of millions.
However, Que Hanfu hardly used Weibo, only occasionally browsing for news. Even if she had a hundred million followers, it likely wouldn’t faze her, her achievements weren’t built on such metrics.
Jiang Huai exclaimed excitedly, “I already have a feeling this will make it to the trending list!”
As a rising star, Jiang Huai was no stranger to trending on Weibo, but being followed by a film emperor was something else entirely.
“Several big celebrities are following me. I wonder how many followers I’ll gain,” Zhu Xinya said expectantly.
“With Teacher Jin’s follow, you’ll definitely surpass a million,” Hu Caicai stated confidently.
Qi Zhou interjected, “By the way, when are we having dinner?”
“You’ll have it before seven,” Jin Sheng said, standing up and heading toward the kitchen. “I’ll start making the boiled fish you requested. The rest of you, let me know what you’d like. If we have the ingredients, I’ll cook it for you.”
Jiang Huai wanted winter melon and meatball soup, Hu Caicai asked for spicy and sour shredded potato salad, and Zhu Xinya craved candied sweet potatoes. After they placed their orders, they all turned to Que Hanfu. Zhu Xinya asked, “Sister, what would you like to eat?”
Que Hanfu paused for a moment before naming braised eggplant, a dish Zhu Xinya loved.
Zhu Xinya threw a flirtatious glance at Que Hanfu behind the camera.
The corners of Que Hanfu’s lips curved upward slightly.
Jin Sheng said, “Alright then. Jiang Huai, go mince the meat. Caicai, peel the potatoes. Xinya, peel the sweet potatoes. Professor Que, you can watch TV.”
Que Hanfu replied, “I’ll help Yaya peel the sweet potatoes.”
Each had their tasks, and they quickly prepared the ingredients.
Jin Sheng kept Jiang Huai in the kitchen to tend the fire, with Hu Caicai assisting. He asked Zhu Xinya to take Que Hanfu and Qi Zhou for a walk around the area, promising that dinner would be ready when they returned.
At 5:30 p.m., the sky was still bright. Zhu Xinya, using the simple map provided by the production team, found the pond. The three of them walked over to it.
The pond was filled with lotus flowers, their leaves crowded together. Pushing the leaves aside, they could see fish swimming beneath the water.
“To make boiled fish for you, Jiang Huai and Teacher Jin spent over three hours catching fish here,” Zhu Xinya said, pointing at the pond.
Qi Zhou was surprised, “Is catching fish that difficult?”
Zhu Xinya replied, “I’m not sure either. What time are you leaving tomorrow? If you have time, you can come and try.”
“I’m leaving tomorrow afternoon.”
While Zhu Xinya and Qi Zhou chatted, her hands weren’t idle either. She held one of Que Hanfu’s hands, continuously kneading and squeezing it.
Que Hanfu’s palm grew too ticklish from her antics, so she grasped Zhu Xinya’s hand in return and said, “Stop fooling around.”
Qi Zhou’s words trailed off as he watched Zhu Xinya and Que Hanfu’s actions, falling silent for a long moment before hesitantly asking, “You two, what’s going on between you and Hanfu?” No matter how he looked at it, the atmosphere between them seemed overly intimate.
Just as Zhu Xinya was unsure how to explain it to Qi Zhou, Que Hanfu said calmly, “We’re together.”
Qi Zhou’s eyes widened. “Together? As in, the way I think?”
Zhu Xinya nodded. “Yes. But since I’m pursuing acting, we haven’t made it public. Please don’t say anything.”
Qi Zhou looked dazed.
He had known Que Hanfu for so long but had never been able to take their relationship further. So, it turned out Que Hanfu liked women!
Suddenly, Qi Zhou felt a sense of balance.
It wasn’t that he wasn’t good enough, it was just that their genders were incompatible for romance!
“Wishing you both happiness,” Qi Zhou said, covering his microphone as he spoke to them.
