I Stole the Male Lead's White Moonlight [Transmigration] - Chapter 50
After dinner, Zhu Xinya removed her microphone and slipped away from the cameraman to call Lu Mengrou.
Lu Mengrou was surprised to receive the call. “Yaya, aren’t you filming a show right now? How do you have time to call me? Could it be that the production team requested it? Will my voice be featured on the show?” Lu Mengrou grew more and more excited as she spoke.
Zhu Xinya replied, “No, nothing like that. I snuck away from the cameras to call you.”
“Oh!” Lu Mengrou’s voice was clearly tinged with disappointment. “I thought my voice might make it on TV.”
Zhu Xinya said, “How about this: call me tomorrow morning, and I’ll make sure you get on TV.”
Come to think of it, Lu Mengrou had never shown any interest in appearing on television before.
“Mengrou, I have something else to ask you.”
“What is it?” Lu Mengrou quickly regained her energy.
“How are things between you and Qi Zhou lately?”
“Hmm… It seems like he’s pursuing me, but I haven’t agreed.”
“You don’t like him anymore?” Zhu Xinya asked.
Lu Mengrou sighed in frustration. “It’s not that, but he had feelings for someone else. Why is he suddenly interested in me now? It’s strange. I feel like if we get together, it’ll be like three people in the relationship.”
Zhu Xinya broke into a slight sweat. “Actually, you don’t need to worry about the other person.”
“Why? Do you know who Qi Zhou originally liked, Yaya?”
“Yes, I do. He liked Professor Que. Qi Zhou and Professor Que have known each other since they were kids. Professor Que is so outstanding, it’s rare for anyone not to like her. But don’t worry, Professor Que already has someone she likes, so Qi Zhou can’t be with her. Besides, Qi Zhou knows about it now and has given up on liking Professor Que.”
Lu Mengrou’s response, however, wasn’t as optimistic as Zhu Xinya had hoped. “He gave up because he knows Professor Que won’t like him back, not because he likes me more than her. Ah, I’ll think about it some more.”
“But Yaya, why are you suddenly calling me to talk about Qi Zhou, especially while you’re filming?” Lu Mengrou suddenly asked.
Zhu Xinya explained, “Qi Zhou is a guest on the show. I spoke with him this afternoon, and he sincerely wished Professor Que well in her relationship.”
Lu Mengrou keenly picked up on the inconsistency in Zhu Xinya’s words. “Why would he suddenly talk to you about Professor Que?”
“Well!”
“Actually, the person Professor Que likes is me.”
“My sister and I have already registered our marriage. We’re keeping it a secret for now and haven’t had the wedding yet.”
On the other end of the line, Lu Mengrou was completely stunned by Zhu Xinya’s revelation.
She knew Zhu Xinya and Que Hanfu had a good relationship, but when did they get together???
“Mengrou, I didn’t tell you earlier. You’re not mad, are you?” Zhu Xinya asked cautiously after not hearing a response for a while.
“Don’t be silly. You said it’s a secret marriage, how could I be mad? I’m just too, too shocked! You actually managed to win over Professor Que, the unattainable flower! How did you do it?!”
Zhu Xinya replied humbly, “It’s nothing, really. I didn’t do much just moved her with my sincerity and made her unable to resist me.”
“You’re truly my best friend! Teach me your ways when you have time. I want Qi Zhou to be unable to resist me too.”
“No problem!”
After finishing her phone call, Zhu Xinya turned around and saw Que Hanfu standing not far behind her. She froze for a moment before a delighted smile spread across her face. She walked over and took Que Hanfu’s hand, asking, “Sister, did you come because you were worried about me?”
Que Hanfu looked at her without saying a word. Zhu Xinya shook her hand gently and asked cautiously, “Sister, did you hear what I said?”
Que Hanfu slowly withdrew her hand and lightly pinched Zhu Xinya’s chin, her thumb rubbing over it. Zhu Xinya trembled slightly, her eyes glazing over with a misty haze.
“A sincere heart moved me, making me unable to resist you?” Que Hanfu lowered her head, her breath brushing against Zhu Xinya’s face.
Zhu Xinya’s face flushed, her gaze turning infatuated. “It was your sincerity that moved me. I’m the one who can’t resist you.”
Que Hanfu kissed her lips lightly. “Good girl.”
The two returned to the Nanshan cabin, where Jin Sheng and the other three were chatting. Seeing them return, they invited them to sit down.
Qi Zhou asked, “Why is Yaya’s face so red? Is she sick?”
Zhu Xinya, noticing everyone looking at her, quickly explained, “No, I ran back, so I’m just a bit hot.” As she spoke, she fanned her face with her hand.
After hearing her explanation, everyone seemed to accept it without suspicion and resumed their conversation, no longer paying attention to her.
Zhu Xinya secretly squeezed Que Hanfu’s hand, the heat in her face refusing to fade.
It’s all sister’s fault that “good girl” had her heart racing even now.
Que Hanfu clasped her hand in return, preventing her from causing mischief, a faint smile curling at the corners of her lips.
During the day, while working, she hadn’t felt particularly tired. But after taking a shower that evening and lying down in bed, Zhu Xinya fell asleep before she could even say goodnight to Que Hanfu, sleeping soundly until dawn.
The morning sunlight was blocked by the curtains, leaving the room dim. When Zhu Xinya woke up, she didn’t open her eyes immediately. Instead, she hugged the blanket and tried to roll into Que Hanfu’s embrace. But no matter how much she rolled, she ended up against the wall without touching Que Hanfu.
Her groggy mind snapped awake instantly.
She opened her eyes abruptly and realized she was alone in the room. Que Hanfu was nowhere to be found.
Zhu Xinya picked up her phone and checked the time 7:05. Where could Que Hanfu have gone so early?
Rubbing her face, she sat up in bed, threw off the covers, and went to look for her in her pajamas.
Jin Sheng and the others were still asleep, and the Nanshan cabin was quiet.
Zhu Xinya went downstairs and heard sounds coming from the kitchen. Peeking in, she saw a small stove lit with a clay pot on top, inside which white rice porridge was bubbling.
She stirred it with a spoon and heard footsteps behind her. Turning around, she saw it was indeed Que Hanfu.
“Sister, why are you up so early?” Zhu Xinya rubbed her eyes and stood up to ask.
Que Hanfu walked over and used her fingers to smooth Zhu Xinya’s messy hair. “The school gave a last-minute notice for me to go to the U.S. for a week-long academic exchange. The car is coming at eight to take me to the airport. I wanted to make breakfast for you for everyone before I left.”
“So you’re leaving right away?” Zhu Xinya’s face scrunched up at the thought of being separated from Que Hanfu for a week. “I want to go to the U.S. too.”
“I’ll be back soon. What gift would you like? I’ll bring it back for you.” Que Hanfu’s voice was calm, with only a hint of tenderness in her gaze.
“I want!” Zhu Xinya, covering the microphone, stood on tiptoe and whispered into Que Hanfu’s ear, “you. I’ll be happy if you come back quickly.”
Que Hanfu’s cool eyes held only Zhu Xinya in their gaze. In that moment, overwhelmed by emotion, she reached out and embraced Zhu Xinya, lowering her head to kiss her lips.
“Mmm…” Caught off guard, Zhu Xinya instinctively wrapped her arms around Que Hanfu’s neck.
Qi Zhou, who had trouble sleeping in unfamiliar beds and had woken up early, followed the aroma of rice porridge to the kitchen. After yawning and rubbing the sleep from his eyes, he was suddenly stunned by the scene before him.
Glancing at the cameras still recording around them, then at Que Hanfu and Zhu Xinya completely lost in their kiss, he silently turned and went back upstairs.
Zhu Xinya and Que Hanfu sat together and shared a bowl of porridge before going upstairs to pack their luggage. Zhu Xinya saw Que Hanfu off outside the South Mountain cabin, watching her get into the car.
Partings always dampen one’s mood. When Zhu Xinya returned inside, she found Jin Sheng and the other three each holding a bowl of rice porridge. Jiang Huai called out to her, “Xinya, come quickly! We saved two bowls for you and Professor Que.”
Qi Zhou looked behind her, “Where’s Hanfu?”
Zhu Xinya sat down next to Hu Caicai, cradling her bowl with both hands. “Sister had to go to the United States for an academic exchange. She’s already left, so both these bowls are mine now.”
Her mood lifted slightly.
Hu Caicai asked, “Xinya, are you feeling okay?”
Zhu Xinya smiled at everyone. “She’s only going to the US for a week, it’s not like she’s not coming back. Why are you all making such faces? Hurry up and drink your porridge. This was specially made by sister for us.”
Jin Sheng said, “I know, it was specially made for Xinya and us.”
Everyone looked at Zhu Xinya and laughed. Her face flushed slightly as she lowered her head to focus on her porridge, ignoring them all.
That morning, Qi Zhou went with Jiang Huai to the pond and caught several fish. Jin Sheng made a delicious fish soup for lunch, after which Qi Zhou also departed.
Zhu Xinya and the others stayed at the South Mountain cabin until 8 PM, having dinner before concluding their two-day recording.
After filming ended, the production team drove everyone to the airport. They flew back to Longcheng together before parting ways at the airport.
The four of them had grown close during their two days together and were somewhat reluctant to separate.
After all, finding like-minded friends in the entertainment industry isn’t easy.
With Que Hanfu away for the next week, Zhu Xinya focused on her work. She filmed a commercial for a well-known milk tea brand, and Ling Xiaoxiao sent her several scripts to see if any appealed to her.
Among the scripts Ling Xiaoxiao provided, only one adapted from a novel for a small web series offered a female lead role. The others were for third or fourth female leads. Being new to the entertainment industry without having proven her abilities yet, major productions weren’t offering her lead roles.
She spent a day reading through all the scripts. The web series had poor production quality and, more importantly, an unappealing female lead character, so Zhu Xinya wouldn’t choose it. The other productions had decent-looking teams, but most lead roles were filled by young actors and actresses who brought funding but little acting skill. After watching their previous works, Zhu Xinya found them painful to watch.
She wanted to be a good actress. Even being an extra with lines in a reliable production would be better than working with actors who couldn’t act.
Zhu Xinya turned down all the scripts and shared her thoughts with Ling Xiaoxiao. Ling Xiaoxiao remarked, “Miss, our company hasn’t fallen so low that you need to take on extra roles. Even if there are lines, we can’t accept such parts.”
Ling Xiaoxiao then continued searching for scripts for Zhu Xinya. Initially worried that Zhu Xinya might care too much about her status, she had only considered roles at least as significant as the fourth female lead. Now, having confirmed Zhu Xinya’s mindset, she began specifically looking for standout characters, regardless of whether they were the eighth or ninth female lead.
Before Ling Xiaoxiao could find a suitable script, Que Hanfu finally returned from her academic exchange in the United States.
Zhu Xinya drove to Longcheng Airport to pick her up. Spotting Que Hanfu emerging from the terminal, she excitedly waved at her.
Walking beside Que Hanfu was a professor from Lincheng University, who chuckled at the sight of Zhu Xinya and said, “What an energetic young lady. I wonder who she’s here to pick up.”
The elderly professor merely mused aloud, not expecting Que Hanfu to respond. To his surprise, as soon as he finished speaking, Que Hanfu replied, “She’s here for me.”
The professor looked at her in astonishment, noticing that the corners of Que Hanfu’s lips were slightly upturned—she was smiling!
