I Stole the Male Lead's White Moonlight [Transmigration] - Chapter 48
After the lunch break, it was time for them to start working.
Jiang Huai was going to catch fish for the guests arriving in the evening. Jin Sheng changed into waterproof clothing with him and said, “I’ll go with you. If this old body stays idle for too long, it’ll rust.”
Zhu Xinya overheard this and frowned disapprovingly. “Teacher Jin, what are you saying? Are you really an old body? How old are you to call yourself that? You should look in the mirror more often, you still look like you’re in your twenties. How can you say you’re an old body?”
Jin Sheng was momentarily stunned by her words, and when he recovered, he couldn’t hide the smile on his face. “Alright, alright, I’ll listen to Xinya. I’m not an old body, okay? But even young people need to exercise. Let this ‘twenty-something’ go catch some fish then.”
No one could resist Zhu Xinya’s seemingly critical but actually flattering sugar-coated bullets.
Zhu Xinya nodded in satisfaction. “Teacher Jin, keep that mindset. You’re the most handsome one among us!”
“Hahaha!” Jin Sheng laughed heartily. “The more you say it, the younger I feel. How did I suddenly become a ‘young one’? Hahaha!”
Jiang Huai and Jin Sheng set off to catch fish, one carrying a bucket and the other holding two small fishing nets.
Hu Caicai called out, “Be careful, don’t get hurt!”
Jiang Huai turned around, his smile radiant under the sunlight. “Don’t worry, Teacher Jin and I will definitely come back with a full load!”
“Go, Sunshine Prince!” Zhu Xinya cheered, raising a fist in encouragement.
After seeing Jiang Huai and Jin Sheng off to catch fish, Zhu Xinya and Hu Caicai prepared to go pick vegetables.
The two of them got their gloves and vegetable baskets ready. Zhu Xinya said to Que Hanfu, “Sister, if you’re bored, you can watch some TV. We’ll be back soon.”
Que Hanfu furrowed her brows slightly. “I’ll go too.”
Without waiting for Zhu Xinya’s response, she stood up, picked up a pair of gloves, a vegetable basket, and a hoe, and walked over to Zhu Xinya. “You two can pick the vegetables. I’ll dig up potatoes to trade for meat.”
Though the vegetable basket was a bit small and might not hold many potatoes.
Hu Caicai was dumbfounded. She never imagined that someone as elegant and refined as Que Hanfu would go dig potatoes. She couldn’t even picture what that scene would look like.
Zhu Xinya looked at Que Hanfu’s smooth, delicate hands and said, “Sister, potatoes are heavy. I don’t think girls can handle them. Why not wait for Jiang Huai and Teacher Jin to come back? Catching fish won’t take long.”
Que Hanfu replied, “No need.”
Since Que Hanfu insisted, Zhu Xinya couldn’t persuade her and had to agree.
Hu Caicai chimed in, “How about I go pick the vegetables by myself? They’re not heavy anyway. Xinya, you can help Professor Que.”
Zhu Xinya’s eyes lit up. “Is that okay?” The potato field and the vegetable patch were in different locations, and she really wasn’t comfortable leaving Que Hanfu alone.
“No problem,” Hu Caicai assured her.
So, in the end, Hu Caicai went to pick vegetables alone, while Zhu Xinya and Que Hanfu went to dig potatoes to trade for meat.
Transporting potatoes wouldn’t be easy with just a vegetable basket. Fortunately, Zhu Xinya found an electric tricycle in the yard. She and Que Hanfu sat in the front, with the cameraman in the back, and they drove the tricycle to the potato field.
The sunlight was just right, gently warming their skin. As they drove, a soft breeze brushed through their hair. Que Hanfu found herself unable to look away from Zhu Xinya’s radiant smile. It was only when Zhu Xinya stopped the tricycle and turned to look at her that Que Hanfu calmly averted her gaze.
“Sis, we’re here!” Zhu Xinya exclaimed excitedly as she hopped out of the car, pointing at the potato field beside them to Que Hanfu.
Que Hanfu walked over and helped Zhu Xinya put on her sun hat. “Be careful not to get tanned.”
Zhu Xinya grabbed Que Hanfu’s hand and asked pitifully, “Would you not like me anymore if I got tanned?”
The cameraman: “…” I’m still here, don’t forget I’m still here!
Que Hanfu replied, “I’m just worried your fans might not like it. Don’t you want to become a film queen?”
Zhu Xinya immediately clung to Que Hanfu’s arm, grinning ingratiatingly. “Mm, I knew you gave me the sun hat because you care about me~”
The cameraman: “…” The acting is a bit over the top, can she really become a film queen?
A faint smile touched Que Hanfu’s cool lips. “Let’s go, let’s dig for potatoes.”
The cameraman felt dazed. So Que Hanfu likes this kind of woman.
“Sis, let’s have a competition. We’ll see who digs more.” Zhu Xinya assigned a plot of land to each of them, picked up a basket and a small hoe, and started digging for potatoes.
Zhu Xinya worked very diligently.
At first, digging potatoes felt easy, and she felt a sense of accomplishment as she picked them up one by one into her basket. But soon, fatigue set in, and her hand holding the small hoe began to feel unsteady. By then, she had dug less than half a basket of potatoes.
Zhu Xinya secretly glanced back at Que Hanfu’s side and was utterly astonished Que Hanfu had already filled an entire basket with potatoes!
Zhu Xinya was drenched in sweat and had only managed to dig so little, while Que Hanfu remained cool and dry, yet had dug so much more.
Zhu Xinya tossed her small hoe aside and ran over to Que Hanfu to observe how her sister was digging potatoes.
With one swing of the hoe, a large cluster of soil-covered potatoes was unearthed. Que Hanfu reached out, picked them up one by one, and tossed them into the basket. Once the basket was full, the extra potatoes piled up beside it.
Que Hanfu seemed tireless, continuing to dig without pause.
“Sis, aren’t you tired?” Zhu Xinya asked, gazing at Que Hanfu’s slender, pale wrist.
“Not tired,” Que Hanfu replied without stopping her movements. “The more I dig, the less you have to.”
Zhu Xinya was taken aback, her heart instantly melting with tenderness. “Sis, you’re so good to me~” She leaned close to Que Hanfu and playfully bumped the brim of her sun hat against Que Hanfu’s.
Que Hanfu looked up and asked Zhu Xinya, “Still want to compete?”
Zhu Xinya grinned, her eyes crinkling. “No, you dig, and I’ll help you gather the potatoes!”
The cameraman, already stuffed with “dog food,” remained perfectly calm.
Hu Caicai, having finished picking vegetables, came back to find Zhu Xinya and Que Hanfu, intending to help them dig potatoes. Before she could get close, she saw a small mountain of potatoes piled up beside the two crouching figures.
Hu Caicai: “!!!”
Hu Caicai ran over and exclaimed, “Xinya, Professor Que, you’ve dug so much in such a short time! You two are amazing!”
Zhu Xinya had been repeating the same motions and hadn’t noticed how many potatoes they had dug. Hearing Hu Caicai’s voice, she turned around and saw the potato pile was taller than her crouching form!
Que Hanfu calmly patted the dirt off her gloves and stood up. “That should be enough. Let’s load them into the car.”
Zhu Xinya’s legs had gone numb from crouching. She held onto Que Hanfu’s hand to stand up and leaned against her for a moment before she felt better.
Hu Caicai adapted quite well to this, blushing for a moment before silently starting to work, using her vegetable basket to carry potatoes and pour them into the vehicle.
Her strength wasn’t great, so about half a basket at a time was her limit.
After Zhu Xinya rested, she also carried half a basket each time. Que Hanfu, however, was different, she could effortlessly lift a basket filled to overflowing.
Zhu Xinya knew Que Hanfu was stronger than her, but she hadn’t expected her strength to be this impressive.
“Sis, when we get back, why don’t you try arm wrestling with Jiang Huai? You might even win!” Zhu Xinya’s eyes sparkled.
Que Hanfu glanced at her and replied, “Mm.”
The electric tricycle was fully loaded with potatoes, with one basket left that couldn’t fit. Hu Caicai asked, “Should we make another trip?”
Zhu Xinya inquired, “Caicai, do you know how to drive an electric tricycle?”
Hu Caicai replied, “I think I can manage.”
Zhu Xinya placed the remaining basket of potatoes on the front seat and said to Hu Caicai, “Caicai, you drive the tricycle back. Sis and I will walk.”
Hu Caicai quickly disappeared from sight as she drove off on the electric tricycle. Zhu Xinya took Que Hanfu’s hand, swinging it as they walked. “Even though digging potatoes is exhausting, being with you makes me feel like it’s not tiring at all.”
Que Hanfu plucked a small blue flower from the roadside and tucked it into Zhu Xinya’s hair. Zhu Xinya wrapped her arms around Que Hanfu’s and asked the cameraman to take a photo of them.
The part-time photographer remained calm and composed, completing the task perfectly.
After all, none of the footage he captured could be aired, so he didn’t need to worry about what he was filming.
Back at Nanshan Cottage, the production team brought out a scale to weigh the potatoes. Each basket was roughly two kilograms, and with fifteen baskets on the tricycle, they exchanged them for six jin of pork.
Zhu Xinya carefully carried the pork and stored it in the refrigerator.
Jiang Huai and Jin Sheng hadn’t returned from fishing yet. Feedback from the cameraman indicated they would need at least two more hours.
Zhu Xinya and the other two were drenched in sweat and utterly exhausted. After taking turns showering, they retreated to their rooms to rest.
When Zhu Xinya woke up from her nap, she found herself curled up in Que Hanfu’s embrace, with Que Hanfu’s arm draped over her waist.
Que Hanfu’s face was right in front of her. A sudden surge of boldness overtook Zhu Xinya, and she leaned in to kiss Que Hanfu’s red lips.
Zhu Xinya kept her eyes open and saw Que Hanfu’s long eyelashes tremble slightly. Her thin eyelids lifted gently, revealing eyes as pale and translucent as glass beads.
“Mmm… Yaya.” Only when Que Hanfu spoke did she realize her lips were sealed by Zhu Xinya’s. She pulled back slightly, called Zhu Xinya’s name, and then pressed her lips to hers once more.
Que Hanfu wrapped an arm around Zhu Xinya’s waist, turning defense into offense. One hand cupped the back of Zhu Xinya’s neck, gently stroking it. The sound of their mingled breaths and soft kisses filled the air, and Zhu Xinya felt her skin begin to heat up.
“Sis, the camera.” Zhu Xinya’s hands pressed against Que Hanfu’s chest, her entire palm going numb from the softness beneath her touch.
Que Hanfu released her hold on Zhu Xinya’s neck, and Zhu Xinya immediately scrambled away, putting as much distance between them as possible.
If this continued, she knew she wouldn’t be able to hold back.
