I Stole the Male Lead's White Moonlight [Transmigration] - Chapter 31
Originally, she had studied acting, which she loved, but lacked resources. Now that she had the resources and her parents as her strongest support, she nearly lost sight of what truly mattered.
Studying economics wouldn’t hinder her from filming. If she couldn’t manage the company in the future, she could always hire professional managers.
Zhu Xinya held the director’s hand solemnly and said, “Thank you.”
The only person the director dared not speak to was Que Hanfu. Although Que Hanfu’s acting was exceptionally outstanding she was practically the embodiment of the Goddess of Light herself and if she became an actress, she would undoubtedly win the Best Actress award within two years, the director didn’t dare ask. Who was Que Hanfu? A figure as revered as a deity. He was certain that if he tried to persuade Que Hanfu to enter the entertainment industry as an actress, the authorities would summon him for a talk the very next day.
For Que Hanfu to become an actress would be a waste of her talents.
Zhu Xinya and Que Hanfu left the film set and headed to Que Hanfu’s home. Along the way, Zhu Xinya seemed unusually quiet. Though she held Que Hanfu’s hand the entire time, she didn’t initiate conversation as she usually would.
The evening breeze was cool, and the bright moon hung high in the sky.
Their shadows stretched long and far behind them.
Zhu Xinya thought about how Que Hanfu had added Fan Chunyi on WeChat, and her mood soured. She didn’t feel like saying a word.
Since arriving in this world from the book, this was the first time she had felt so miserable.
She wondered if her possessiveness was too strong. After all, she had known Que Hanfu for less than a week. Who Que Hanfu added on WeChat was none of her business.
But, but Fan Chunyi was different!
Fan Chunyi clearly had ulterior motives, she wanted to date Que Hanfu.
Absolutely not!
Before she knew it, the two of them had entered the house. Que Hanfu led Zhu Xinya to the sofa and sat her down, calling out to her helplessly, “Yaya, what’s wrong? Why aren’t you responding to me?”
Zhu Xinya snapped out of her thoughts and looked up into Que Hanfu’s eyes, cold as mountain snow, which reflected her own confused face.
“I was just lost in thought. I’m sorry.”
Que Hanfu gently stroked Zhu Xinya’s hair. “Yaya, you don’t need to apologize to me. What were you thinking about just now?”
“Fan Chunyi…” Zhu Xinya blurted out the name without thinking and immediately regretted it.
She hadn’t intended to lie to Que Hanfu. Her eyelashes fluttered slightly as she continued, “I was just thinking about what’s so special about Fan Chunyi that you’d add her on WeChat. She seems so foolish.” Does sister like foolish girls?
No, no, Que Hanfu doesn’t like girls at all. It’s all just Fan Chunyi’s wishful thinking. I almost let Fan Chunyi’s orientation mislead me.
Que Hanfu took out her phone, opened WeChat, found the friend request from Fan Chunyi, and placed the phone in front of Zhu Xinya. “Are you talking about this? I never intended to add her on WeChat.”
“Then why did you let Fan Chunyi scan the QR code?” A flicker of joy sprouted in Zhu Xinya’s heart.
That’s great! So sister never planned to add Fan Chunyi after all. But why didn’t she tell me earlier? I’ve been upset about this for so long.
Que Hanfu rejected Fan Chunyi’s friend request right in front of Zhu Xinya. Instead of directly answering Zhu Xinya’s question, she turned it around and asked, “Why did my adding Fan Chunyi on WeChat make you so distracted? It’s such a trivial matter.”
Zhu Xinya uncomfortably averted her gaze. “Because, because…” What reason could she give? She couldn’t just bluntly tell Que Hanfu that Fan Chunyi had ill intentions toward her.
“Yaya, don’t lie to me. Tell me the truth,” Que Hanfu sighed softly.
Zhu Xinya couldn’t hold back any longer and immediately shared her observations with Que Hanfu. “Sister, have you noticed the way Fan Chunyi looks at you? I think she has feelings for you. And since you don’t like women, what if she adds you on WeChat and ends up leading you astray?”
“Even if you could accept being with a woman, it shouldn’t be someone like Fan Chunyi. Her hair is so coarse, her eyebrows are like weeds, her eyes are big but lifeless, her nose is flat, her lips are thick, and she’s so short definitely not even 160 cm. She’s not a good match for you at all.” Zhu Xinya criticized Fan Chunyi from head to toe.
Que Hanfu replied, “Yaya, if I were to like someone, I wouldn’t care about their appearance.”
Zhu Xinya grew anxious, her fair little face flushing bright red. “Fan Chunyi isn’t good on the inside either! She’s not very smart, she cries a lot she’s really not good at all. Sister, you can’t like her!”
“Then who can I like? Should I like Yaya?” Que Hanfu asked quietly.
“Ah?” Zhu Xinya was stunned.
Que Hanfu liking Zhu Xinya didn’t seem so bad. At least they were well-matched in appearance.
Wait, no! What was she thinking?!
Zhu Xinya’s face grew unbearably hot, her eyes shimmering with shyness. “Sister, stop joking. You, you’re my sister, and besides, besides.” She couldn’t think of what should follow “besides.”
How could Que Hanfu possibly like her?
But another voice inside her whispered: Why not? You’re beautiful, you have a lovely personality, the two of you are a perfect match!
Zhu Xinya’s eyes fluttered nervously, the blush spreading from her cheeks down to her neck, until her entire body felt feverish.
“It’s too hot in the living room. I think we should turn on the air conditioner,” Zhu Xinya said, fanning herself with her hand, her voice trembling slightly, betraying her inner turmoil.
“Yaya,” Que Hanfu took Zhu Xinya’s hand. “Stop avoiding my gaze. Look at me, okay?”
“I am looking at you,” Zhu Xinya murmured, but her eyes would dart away the moment they met Que Hanfu’s face.
Seeing her reaction, Que Hanfu understood everything.
Her heart surged with overwhelming joy. She could now be certain Zhu Xinya liked her.
Que Hanfu cupped Zhu Xinya’s face gently and leaned in closer. “Yaya, look at me.”
Zhu Xinya’s eyelashes fluttered, and she instinctively lifted her gaze, meeting Que Hanfu’s eyes.
“Yaya, after spending this week together, I’ve been completely captivated by you. I’ve fallen for you, helplessly and irrevocably. Will you give me a chance to pursue you?”
Que Hanfu’s voice was so tender that Zhu Xinya’s heart began to race violently. Her clear, bright eyes misted over with a rosy haze, and she distinctly heard herself answer, “Okay.”
Then, as if snapping out of a trance, she pushed Que Hanfu away and retreated. “No, I can’t! I still have a fiancé. You can’t pursue me right now!”
Hearing Zhu Xinya mention Li Heng, Que Hanfu’s eyes darkened. “Then when do you plan to break off the engagement? If you’re facing difficulties, I can help you.”
Zhu Xinya said, “I, I’ll settle things with Li Heng this week! By the time we come to Fengruo Film Studio for filming next time, I should already have broken off the engagement with Li Heng.”
A faint smile spread in Que Hanfu’s eyes. “Yaya, so once you break off the engagement with Li Heng, you’ll agree to let me pursue you?”
Zhu Xinya couldn’t help but cover her face with both hands, closing her eyes as she replied, “I don’t know either.”
“No, Yaya, you have to give me a definite answer today.” Que Hanfu gently pulled Zhu Xinya’s hands away from her face. “I like you, and you have feelings for me too. Why can’t you agree to let me pursue you?”
“Yaya, I promise I’ll only be good to you in the future, and your wishes will be my wishes.”
“What happened with the Meng Guansheng brothers was my fault for not protecting you well enough, but it won’t happen again. I’ve already decided that after my contract with Longcheng University expires, I’ll start my own company. Believe me, I have many research results in hand and will quickly establish a foothold in the business world. In the future, I’ll be a hundred, a thousand times more capable than I am now. With me protecting you, no one will ever be able to harm you again.”
“Yaya, please don’t reject me, okay?”
Looking into Que Hanfu’s earnest eyes, Zhu Xinya finally made up her mind. “Next week. I’ll give you an answer next week, okay?”
Before breaking off the engagement with Li Heng, Zhu Xinya didn’t want Que Hanfu to get involved and give Li Heng any opportunity to approach her.
Moreover, in her over twenty years of life, this was the first time Zhu Xinya had been so deeply liked by someone. She wasn’t sure if she could accept being with a woman. What if she agreed but later found she couldn’t bear intimate contact with Que Hanfu? Agreeing and then rejecting would be the cruelest outcome. It would be better to wait until she was completely sure of her feelings before giving her consent.
Though disappointed, Que Hanfu agreed.
That night, when they went to bed, Zhu Xinya hugged her blanket and rolled to the corner, putting a distance of two people between herself and Que Hanfu.
She thought she wouldn’t be able to sleep, but as soon as she lay down, she fell into a deep slumber.
Que Hanfu lifted Zhu Xinya’s chin and kissed her lips, gently tracing their shape.
All the blood in Zhu Xinya’s body seemed to rush to her face, making her lips incredibly sensitive. Finally, she couldn’t help but part her lips in a silent invitation.
Zhu Xinya opened her eyes and found herself drenched in sweat. Her phone on the bedside table was ringing incessantly. She touched her lips, her face flushed crimson.
She had actually had such a dream last night. Now, Zhu Xinya no longer had any doubts about whether she could accept Que Hanfu.
She could accept it and she was eagerly looking forward to it.
