I Stole the Male Lead's White Moonlight [Transmigration] - Chapter 19
“Hey, Li Heng.”
“Yaya, have you missed me these past few days? I’m sorry I couldn’t meet you because of work. How about I take you out for a big meal today?” Li Heng’s voice was as gentle as ever, but with a lowered tone, it carried an extra magnetic quality.
The original host had been deceived by Li Heng’s devoted and tender demeanor, completely unaware of anything amiss.
Hah, too busy with work to meet did that mean he didn’t even have time to send a WeChat message?
From Sunday to Friday, six whole days, Zhu Xinya hadn’t received a single message from him.
Clearly, Li Heng was stringing her along but growing impatient with it, only reluctantly squeezing in a date with her on Saturday.
Li Heng had managed to deceive the original host simply because she was blindly, hopelessly in love with him.
The current Zhu Xinya not only felt no affection for him but even wanted to trample Li Heng underfoot in front of Que Hanfu.
Zhu Xinya glanced nervously at Que Hanfu and whispered into the phone, “I have something else to do today. How about, how about next time you take me out for a big meal?”
On the other end, Li Heng, seated behind a massive desk, frowned slightly. He disliked having his plans disrupted. If it weren’t for Zhu Xinya’s background, he would have long grown tired of this simple-minded, foolish, and dull woman.
Behind his glasses, Li Heng’s eyes darkened with a cold, ruthless glint, yet his voice remained gentle as he asked curiously, “What could be so important, Yaya, that you’d cancel our once-a-week meeting?”
Zhu Xinya clutched the fabric of her clothes tightly with her left hand, stammering, “It’s something very important. You’ll find out later, but for now, it’s a secret.”
Li Heng chuckled lightly, feigning regret. “Alright then, our Yaya has her own little secrets now. I’ll wait until you’re ready to tell me.”
“I only have time today this week. If we don’t meet today, it’ll have to be next week.”
Zhu Xinya quickly interjected, “I have plans next week too. How about we schedule for the week after?”
Li Heng: “Fine.”
Li Heng hadn’t expected Zhu Xinya to reject him twice something that would have been unthinkable before. Had she fallen for someone else?
After hanging up, Li Heng stared expressionlessly at his phone.
Qin Shuangman knocked and entered, walking straight to Li Heng’s desk without glancing around. She bent over to place the documents in her hands in front of him, her chest pressing forward prominently under the strain.
“President Li, these are the product materials from Fangyin Group.”
As she spoke, Qin Shuangman quickly glanced at Li Heng, who was still focused on his phone, not sparing her a single look. A flicker of jealousy flashed in her eyes.
Why would such an outstanding man be interested in a plain woman like Zhu Xinya? If it weren’t for her influential father, Li Heng wouldn’t even have noticed her!
Originally, Qin Shuangman was the only woman by Li Heng’s side, accompanying him all seven days of the week. But ever since Li Heng got engaged to Zhu Xinya, he set aside every Saturday to date her.
That was a time Qin Shuangman couldn’t infiltrate or understand, and she resented Zhu Xinya for stealing Li Heng away.
Li Heng’s dark, shadowy eyes shifted to the documents. With a casual flick of his wrist, he sent his phone flying into the pristine white wall. It shattered with a loud “bang,” scattering into pieces on the floor.
The loud noise startled Qin Shuangman, making her heart leap, but she didn’t move an inch.
Li Heng disliked people around him being easily startled.
“Go buy a new phone,” Li Heng said indifferently, his pale hands flipping through the documents before him.
“Alright, President Li.” Qin Shuangman didn’t dare to linger and immediately left the general manager’s office to personally go and select a phone.
Zhu Xinya put down her phone and let out a sigh of relief, feeling much more relaxed than her earlier tense state.
Just then, the traffic light turned green, and Que Hanfu continued driving.
“Who were you talking to just now? You seemed very nervous,” Que Hanfu asked in a calm tone.
But her hands gripping the steering wheel tightened slightly.
Zhu Xinya forced a smile at Que Hanfu, her expression downcast as she said, “It was my fiancé.”
Que Hanfu felt a tightness in her chest, her cool eyes blinking slowly. “Your fiancé?”
“You’re so young. How do you already have a fiancé?”
Zhu Xinya sighed. “His name is Li Heng. He’s an outstanding graduate of Longcheng University. I met him when he came back to give a speech at the school.
He pursued me deeply and devotedly. And he seemed so accomplished himself: refined and handsome, skilled at managing a company. I’d never been in love before, so I thought I’d met my soulmate and quickly fell for him. He was very good at winning over my parents, and since I insisted, we got engaged after just over a month of dating.”
Que Hanfu felt so stifled she could barely breathe. She pulled over to the side of the road, turned to Zhu Xinya, and asked, “You said you thought you’d met your soulmate. So, what went wrong with Li Heng?”
Zhu Xinya’s eyelashes trembled. “He was gentle and considerate, but from the time we met until our engagement, he said he was only free on Saturdays. So we only ever went out on Saturdays. Aside from that day, he never sent me a single text or called me once.
He said he was just an adopted son in his family, and to give me the same comfortable life after marriage, he had to focus on his career, make the one company under his management successful, and earn the approval of his adoptive parents. He said it was for my sake, and I believed him.
But later, I realized that the reason he never contacted me outside of Saturdays was simply because he didn’t like me, he couldn’t even be bothered to pretend. He has someone else he likes.” Zhu Xinya couldn’t hold back a sob, her eyelashes glistening with unshed tears.
Que Hanfu’s brow furrowed deeply. She reached out gently and wiped the tear from Zhu Xinya’s lashes. “Don’t cry.”
Zhu Xinya, who had been looking down, lifted her head at these words, her eyes red as she called out to Que Hanfu, “Sis!”
Que Hanfu’s fingertips trembled slightly, but she didn’t pull her hand back. Instead, she gently placed it on Zhu Xinya’s head and ruffled her hair. “If he likes someone else, why did he pursue you?”
Zhu Xinya’s eyes grew even redder, tears welling up until, with a single blink, a stream of them traced down her cheeks, falling onto her clothes and leaving dark stains.
“I haven’t had a chance to tell you yet my father is Zhu Yin. The Fangyin Group belongs to our family.
Li Heng cares a lot about money. When we were dating, he’d often look dejected and say that as an adopted son of the Li family, most of the family’s assets would surely go to his younger brother. He might end up with nothing and had to rely on his own efforts. He set his sights on the immense wealth of Zhu Yin, Longcheng’s richest man. I’m Zhu Yin’s only daughter, so the family fortune will all be mine someday. Whoever I marry will inherit it. That’s probably why he pursued me.”
Que Hanfu took a handkerchief from her bag and gently wiped the tears from Zhu Xinya’s cheeks. Her gaze was tender, but her tone was as cold as ice: “Don’t be afraid. He’s just a worthless scumbag. I’ll help you.”
