- I Need To Find A Way To Make Her Love Me Again
- Chapter 55 - Could This Be Infighting?
As soon as the woman finished speaking, a cold sword light flashed toward her. She retreated three steps, the tentacles floating behind her surging forward to form a shield. To her annoyance, the emerald birds surrounding her opponent also swarmed in, their beaks as sharp as blades as they lunged at her.
Trapped in the Pivot Scenery Map for years, Wei Yao hated these emerald birds raised by the Guan family most of all. They couldn’t be killed off, wouldn’t stay away, and were as brave as soldiers, deadly difficult to deal with.
Shifting her gaze, she saw Yan Xingyu nearby attempting to save her soul pet. Wei Yao flew across to intercept her, but as she drew close, she was struck once again by a debilitating headache.
Wei Yao guessed who was causing the mischief and cursed inwardly at the “disobedient” one. Sensing the green light manifesting behind her, she let her current target go and turned to face those irritating emerald birds.
Guan Suxue noticed the movement. With a flick of her finger, a cold light flashed, instantly severing the tentacles constricting the silver snake.
Once the task was done, she withdrew her gaze and looked at the Void Demon that had survived years of suppression. She said coldly, “No wonder I haven’t been able to repair the Pivot Scenery Map for so long. It turns out you’ve been hiding inside all this time.”
“Today, I must eliminate you.”
“Junior, what arrogant talk,” the entity replied. “Your ancestors couldn’t handle me, let alone you.”
As they spoke, the jellyfish that had been controlling the tentacles to fight the birds shook its head and swam toward Wei Yao. In the blink of an eye, its transparent body transformed into a crystal-clear longsword, its blade flowing with a chilling light as it lunged forward.
With only inches to go, the woman in front of her suddenly vanished into thin air, leaving only a cascade of white plum blossoms falling from the sky. Wei Yao’s eyes darted around, scanning every direction.
Seeing no sign of the person, but finding the annoying birds swarming again, she brandished her sword to wipe out the little pests. However, she noticed the plum blossoms floating in the air were sprouting stingers, firing needles toward her with a whistling swoosh.
Yan Xingyu watched as the woman effortlessly dodged the needle attacks from the blossoms. She gripped her silver blade, intending to follow up with a strike of her own.
Before she could take a step, she felt someone grab her wrist. Turning, she saw Guan Suxue standing behind her.
“Rou’er, leave first,” Guan Suxue commanded.
Yan Xingyu was visibly displeased but knew she couldn’t show disrespect. Glancing at the woman who was using Yi Rong’s body to leap about and parry the floral attacks, she hesitated. “But…”
“I will find a way to extract the Void Demon from Yi Rong’s body,” Guan Suxue said. “It is dangerous here; your presence will only distract me. Go outside and wait for us.”
Her tone left no room for argument. Since they were the ones who had brazenly intruded into the palace first, and the Palace Master was helping them instead of seeking retribution, pushing any further would be beyond rude.
Yan Xingyu reluctantly complied. “Alright. Please be careful, Palace Master Guan.”
Guan Suxue gave a slight nod. She summoned an emerald bird and tapped her finger in the air, connecting the bird and the girl with a fine thread of green silk. “It will lead you out. Rou’er, go.”
Yan Xingyu looked down at the thin thread on her wrist, then looked back at the face she cared for. Feeling the other’s constant gaze on her, she retracted her eyes and answered, “Fine. I’ll wait for you outside.”
Seeing her comply, Guan Suxue moved to clear a path. Using a flower as a catalyst, she threw it forward. The five petaled white plum blossom spun into a vortex, expanding rapidly within the sea of blood.
“Go in,” Guan Suxue ordered.
Without hesitation, Yan Xingyu stepped into the vortex.
The woman had long been watching these movements. Seeing the expanding vortex, she flipped her sword qi to weave a net, trapping the surrounding birds, and kicked off to rush toward the exit.
Predicting the move, Guan Suxue shifted her silhouette to block her path. Her plum blossom transformed into a sword, striking directly at the woman’s face.
To her surprise, the woman caught the close-range strike with her bare hand. Looking at the crimson blood staining the blade, Guan Suxue stared intently at her opponent.
The woman curled her lips into a smile and said, “Junior, you are quite capable.”
However, while the woman’s lips curved into a grin, they didn’t move to form words. How was she speaking?
Guan Suxue’s eyelid flickered. She turned around to see another “Yi Rong” appearing at the mouth of the vortex, waving with a flowery smile. “Guan family junior, until we meet again.”
Watching the figure dive into the vortex, Guan Suxue’s dignified and elegant expression fractured slightly. She turned to find the woman in front of her gone, replaced only by a jellyfish. With a burst of power, she slashed through it and hurried after the disappearing figure.
Yan Xingyu stepped through the vortex and found it was a direct passage to the outside world. The emerald bird quickly led her back to the palace. Just as she found her footing, a force grabbed her around the waist and hoisted her up.
Startled, she wrapped her arms around the person’s neck. She looked up to see a beaming face watching her. “We meet again.”
Yan Xingyu’s eyes widened as she blurted out, “How did you get out?”
The woman laughed. “Following you, of course.”
“Wei Yao!”
Hearing the shout from behind, Wei Yao increased her speed, flying toward the palace exit. However, the guardian emerald birds were faster, intercepting her path.
Wei Yao glanced back to see Guan Suxue hot on her heels. She muttered to herself that this junior was quite fast. Realizing she couldn’t take the girl with her, she leaned down and bit Yan Xingyu’s shoulder.
This action caused the dagger Yan Xingyu was about to strike with to freeze in mid-air. The sensation of teeth sinking into her flesh sent waves of pain through her, making her want to scream in rage.
The woman then moved her hand to pin Yan Xingyu’s blade-wielding arm to the side. With a hint of regret, Wei Yao said, “I cannot stay here any longer. Little one, we shall meet again if fate allows.”
With that, Wei Yao flipped her over and pushed her away. She turned and slaughtered the birds blocking her path, carving out a bloody opening and escaping.
Guan Suxue caught the flung Yan Xingyu. In the blink of an eye, the intruder was gone without a trace. Her face shifted through several shades of anger. Noticing the bright red blood on the girl’s shoulder, she sighed and reached out, using her spiritual energy to begin the healing process.
Facing each other, Yan Xingyu felt an uncontrollable wave of embarrassment and shame. Seeing the Palace Master still helping her despite everything, her emotions became even more tangled. For all her usual wit, she found herself at a loss for words.
Seeing Palace Master Guan withdraw her hand, the pain in her shoulder vanished along with it. She murmured softly, “Thank you.”
“Mhm.”
Guan Suxue observed the awkwardness and unease written all over the girl’s face. She pursed her lips and said gently, “What is done is done, you needn’t overthink it, Rou’er.”
“Demons are inherently cunning, let alone a thousand-year-old spirit like that one. She is full of schemes and impossible to guard against completely.”
The clear note of consolation in her words was unexpected, making Yan Xingyu feel even more guilty. Though she didn’t know how to respond, her eyes naturally followed the other woman.
As the black mist dissipated, the scroll of the Thousand Mile Verdant Mountain floating in mid-air within the hall revealed its true form once again. With shimmering streams and drifting auspicious clouds, it was a magnificent masterpiece that brought peace to the mind with just a single glance.
Looking at the scene before her, Guan Suxue understood: the Pivot Scenery Map had been fully restored.
A slender figure darted through the forest, treading on leaves as light as a swallow and as swift as the wind. Since leaving the Lingluan Palace, the woman had been racing forward with a very clear objective.
She had just bitten that Yan family child, the scent of blood was guiding her to find the next member of the Yan clan.
The body she currently occupied was, in the end, just a clone shell and difficult to use. The Yan family had been entangled with her own tribe for many years; since she couldn’t take that child’s body, letting another Yan family member serve as a substitute would suffice.
Wei Yao calculated her plan, but as she stepped near the Yulan Palace, that familiar headache returned. She grimaced, frustrated by this disobedient descendant of hers. Then she thought, rather than suppressing her constantly, it would be better to let a portion of her out to alleviate the headache.
Deciding this was a decent compromise, she loosened her suppression of the girl.
Yi Rong didn’t understand how her body had been taken over by this person. She didn’t recognize the stranger, yet the stranger knew her appearance perfectly. She demanded, “Who are you? Why have you come here?”
As expected, the girl emerged with endless questioning. Wei Yao answered quite honestly, “It’s because your body is a half-baked mess. I can’t fully possess it.”
“Your true body is locked away in the Eastern Tai Sea, so taking that over would be useless.”
“Therefore, I must find a new body.”
The way the woman spoke, treating others’ bodies and lives as objects to be toyed with at will, infuriated Yi Rong. She snapped, “Don’t even dream of it, you demon! You won’t get anyone’s body.”
Wei Yao rolled her eyes slightly and said, “Don’t forget, you are a demon too.”
“You are, after all, a Demon Seed born only once in a millennium. How could you live such a useless and pathetic life?”
“You even gave your heart to someone else.”
Yi Rong shot back, “What business is it of yours?”
Wei Yao didn’t care to argue. Noticing that the headache had indeed improved after letting the girl out, she continued forward. She moved quickly, turning a deaf ear to the voice constantly telling her to stop.
However, the closer she got to the Yulan Palace, the more she realized something was unusual about this place.
Wei Yao halted her steps, crouched down, and pressed her hand against the ground. Closing her eyes to meditate, she sensed the anomaly here, a surge of ghostly qi rising from the earth straight toward her.
She opened her eyes again, her expression turning peculiar. How could the ghostly and demonic energy here be so heavy?
Wei Yao condensed energy at her fingertips, intending to form a web to probe deeper underground. Guessing her intent, Yi Rong shouted anxiously, “Don’t do that!”
This time, Wei Yao did not ignore the voice in her ear. She countered, “What happened here?”
Although Yi Rong was loath to speak with this woman, she knew that if she didn’t stop her, her actions would surely draw Yan Xiaoling and the others here.
She was forced to explain, “Hundreds of members of the Yan clan are buried here. Please do not disturb them.”
Wei Yao let out a soft “Oh,” her tone indifferent. “So the Yan clan was exterminated.”
“Who did it?”
When she received no immediate answer, the woman let out a chuckle. “It couldn’t have been you, could it?”
“No!”
The decisive denial made Wei Yao arch an eyebrow. “Then who else could exterminate the Yan family, one of the great aristocratic clans?”
“Could it be… internal strife?”
