I Need To Find A Way To Make Her Love Me Again - Chapter 16
Yi Rong did not answer the question directly. She glanced up and saw Yan Xiaoling’s figure had disappeared into the thick fog, then withdrew her gaze and said to the person in front of her, “These matters have nothing to do with you.”
Seeing Yi Rong about to leave, Yan Xingyu impulsively reached out and grabbed her.
She saw the other person’s gaze shift to her wrist, and her own gaze followed downwards. There was a moment of silence between them. Yan Xingyu belatedly realized what she had done, let go of the person’s hand, and said, “I apologize. Yi Rong, please don’t leave so fast. I want to talk to you.”
Yi Rong maintained her usual indifferent expression, merely responding with an “Mm” to indicate her willingness.
Yan Xingyu thought about their few interactions during this period; she hadn’t sensed any malice from the other person towards her. Perhaps because she had entered Yan Rou’s dream yesterday, she vaguely felt that there was no deep seated hatred between Yi Rong and the original owner.
However, the final scene in the dream left her completely baffled. She asked, “Yi Rong, was it really you who led the Demon Realm to slaughter the Jade Orchid Palace?”
She saw a slight flicker in the person’s calm eyes, but Yi Rong still didn’t answer her question directly. Instead, she heard the other person ask, “Why do you ask this question? These matters are irrelevant to you. You are not Yan Rou.”
A look of undisguised astonishment appeared on Yan Xingyu’s face as she asked, “How do you know I’m not her?”
“You and she are two completely different people. Even if you use her body, one can tell at a glance,” Yi Rong looked at the familiar face before her, which carried a sense of unfamiliarity she couldn’t ignore.
Thinking this, she frowned slightly, turned her back to Yan Xingyu, and said, “No matter who you are, you don’t need to interfere in the affairs of the Jade Orchid Palace. You only need to live well.”
Live well. These words made Yan Xingyu pause. She suddenly remembered that, once, her initial wish was simply to live well.
But this was the first time anyone had said this to her. Deeply touched, and making a connection, even though the person in front of her remained silent, she had her own conclusion. She smiled softly and said, “So, the one who slaughtered the Jade Orchid Palace wasn’t you.”
Seeing the other person not respond, and unable to see Yi Rong’s expression, she took a few steps forward. She tilted her head and happened to catch sight of the other’s eyes, which were filled with sadness.
Seeing her approach, Yi Rong blinked, calmed her emotions, and said indifferently, “It doesn’t matter anymore whether it was or wasn’t. They are all gone.”
Yan Xingyu countered, “How can it not matter? Aren’t I still living for Yan Rou?”
“If you don’t tell me the truth, what if my real enemy shows up, and I don’t even know it?”
“How awful would that be?”
Hearing this, Yi Rong was lost in thought but still said, “It won’t happen. No one will come to hurt you from now on.”
Yan Xingyu said, “Is that so? One can never tell. After all, even if no enemy is chasing me, I still have your Demon Heart inside me.”
Yi Rong was silent for a moment, then said, “If you need it, I can protect you.”
Yan Xingyu laughed upon hearing this, “Close-quarters protection, like that?”
Yi Rong said, “Yes.”
Yan Xingyu found the answer even funnier. She laughed and said, “I used to be quite afraid of you, listening to Xiao Yin. But after chatting with you a bit, I feel like you’re actually quite nice.”
“What it said wasn’t wrong. Keeping a distance from me is better for you and everyone else.”
Hearing the other person sound increasingly discouraged, Yan Xingyu changed the subject, saying, “Alright, Yi Rong, how about you lead me out of this thick fog first?”
Yi Rong agreed with an “Mm” and summoned her fish, which swam on the ground to clear a path for them.
Yan Xingyu followed behind her. The fog was dense, so they stayed very close. Otherwise, just a few steps would be enough for the thick fog to conceal the person.
“Master.”
Yan Xingyu heard Xiao Yin call her and secretly replied, “What is it?”
Xiao Yin saw its Master interacting closely with Yi Rong again and was very worried. It said, “Master, don’t forget that you were killed seven times by Yi Rong before. Don’t be deceived by her disguise.”
Yan Xingyu recalled the man she met when she first came to this world. Xiao Yin said he was Yi Rong, but now, she didn’t believe it. He only bore some resemblance to Yi Rong, but the ruthlessness flowing in his eyes was undeniable.
That’s why she had kept running away.
However, after a few real contacts with Yi Rong, just as Yi Rong instantly recognized she wasn’t Yan Rou, she also recognized that the person at the very beginning was not her.
“Xiao Yin, is it possible that there are two Yi Rongs? The one you met was the bad Yi Rong, and the one in front of us now is the good Yi Rong.”
Xiao Yin couldn’t distinguish such things. It simply said, “Master, I just want you to protect yourself well.”
“Don’t worry, I won’t repeat the past. Xiao Yin, you should rest first.” Yan Xingyu understood its concern, but she also trusted her own instincts.
So, who was the one who truly wanted to kill the original owner?
The roaring sound that sounded again in her ears broke Yan Xingyu’s train of thought. This sound immediately gave her a headache.
Compounding the problem, they couldn’t see anything around them in the thick fog. With the mountains echoing, it was even harder to tell the Huos beast’s location.
Yan Xingyu could only carefully watch for any anomaly in the fog near her, ready to fight.
A pattering sound approached her faster than the roaring. A round shape rushed out from beneath the fog, a flash of fiery red shooting out, and it slammed straight into Yan Xingyu’s arms.
A surge of force violently knocked her back a few steps. Luckily, the person beside her reached out and held her, preventing her from falling.
Yan Xingyu looked at the little fox in her arms and scolded, “Little one, is that any way to run into someone? If I hadn’t been quick enough to see it was you, I would have hit you.”
Jiao Yu was not in good shape. Finding Yan Xingyu had used up all its energy. It didn’t respond to the scolding, just huddled, body shrinking, in her arms.
Yan Xingyu’s nose twitched, and she smelled a slightly burnt odor on Jiao Yu. Hearing the roaring sound getting closer and closer, and recalling what Liu Ruoni had said, the lightning was truly striking. Why was the founding ancestor of Green Cauldron Mountain so twisted, creating such wicked things?
She felt troubled. The Huos beast was approaching. Should she fight it or not?
However, she didn’t need to worry for long. The Huos beast tracked the little fox’s scent and found them, but it also picked up an intimidating scent.
Just as it was about to get close, it saw a warning emitted by a pair of vertical pupils, which made it stop involuntarily.
Yan Xingyu saw the Huos beast stop and keep flicking its tail nearby. The fog was fanned into a small vortex by its tail, but it wouldn’t come any closer.
“Let’s go.”
The voice of the person beside her became exceptionally clear in her ear. Yan Xingyu looked back and saw the distance between them had become very close; the two were practically pressed against each other.
She noticed the Huo beast wasn’t approaching them anymore. Yan Xingyu guessed and asked, “Yi Rong, did you do that?”
“Mm.”
Yan Xingyu watched the person turn around, and looking at her back, she said, “Yi Rong, you really are amazing. You can suppress this demon beast.”
“Mm.”
“This demon beast is too troublesome to provoke or fight. I was just worrying about what to do, but I didn’t expect you to solve it right away.”
“Mm.”
Yan Xingyu realized that this person responded to her every word, but was just too terse.
A sudden thought of Yi Rong’s childhood appearance in the dream popped into her mind. On an impulse, she stepped forward and took her hand.
It wasn’t the cool touch she had imagined. It turned out her hand was also warm.
