I Love Her Because She’s Dim-Witted And Filthy Rich - Chapter 6
“What are you stuttering for?”
Su Miao knew exactly why she was stuttering, but she didn’t dare say it.
Naturally, she regarded Duan Bainian as a friend, but… did Duan Bainian feel the same way?
Amidst her hesitation, she began to stutter.
Seeing that Su Miao had tried to push the gift toward her several times already and Duan Bainian still wouldn’t accept it, Su Miao grew both anxious and frustrated.
She was anxious that Duan Bainian wouldn’t accept her gesture of goodwill, and frustrated by her own uselessness—she couldn’t even manage to give someone a gift.
She was incredibly timid; she was far too embarrassed to speak the words in her heart out loud.
Since her mouth wouldn’t speak for her, her eyes had to do the job instead.
And so, quite humiliatingly, she couldn’t control herself and began to cry.
Xiao Song, who was driving up front, truly couldn’t stand to watch any longer. She had been by Su Miao’s side for some time now, and she could guess about eighty or ninety percent of why Su Miao was crying.
Thus, Xiao Song spoke up, “Sister Bainian, the gift is a sincere gesture; you should accept it.”
At that moment, Duan Bainian was also a bit confused. No matter how observant she usually was, she couldn’t figure out why Su Miao had suddenly burst into tears. Hearing Xiao Song’s reminder, she understood instantly.
This fool’s crying point is a bit too strange, isn’t it? If she can’t give a gift away, she has to cry?
Duan Bainian quickly took the small gift box from Su Miao’s hand. “Thank you for the gift. It looks very beautiful.”
The box was tied with a pretty ribbon. Duan Bainian was merely offering a polite compliment on its appearance, but Su Miao misunderstood.
She broke into a smile through her tears. “You haven’t even opened it yet; how do you know it’s beautiful?”
Duan Bainian didn’t explain and went ahead to open the box.
It was a white jade bracelet, warm and smooth to the touch.
Duan Bainian glanced at Su Miao. “Then, I’ll put it on?”
Su Miao nodded expectantly.
Duan Bainian was already slender; wearing the bracelet made her look a few degrees gentler and more exquisite.
Duan Bainian shook her wrist slightly and smiled at Su Miao. “I like it very much.”
Su Miao was overjoyed. “What else do you like? I’ll give it all to you!”
Duan Bainian immediately laughed. More money than brains—was that roughly what this meant?
Seeing that Su Miao was in a good mood, Duan Bainian asked, “You still haven’t said—why were you stuttering just now?”
The smile froze on Su Miao’s face. Visibly, she became bashful once again.
Duan Bainian observed Su Miao closely; the current Su Miao was truly acting very strange.
Her face went from white to red, and from red back to white. She looked at Duan Bainian as if she wanted to say something, but the words wouldn’t come out.
Duan Bainian asked softly, “What do you want to say? Go ahead, I’m listening.”
Duan Bainian’s words gave Su Miao courage. Su Miao cast a quick glance at Xiao Song, who was driving, and seeing that Xiao Song wasn’t paying attention to the back, she turned to Duan Bainian and spoke in a small voice. “The two of us are friends now, right?”
Duan Bainian hadn’t expected that Su Miao had been holding back all this time just to say that; she was quite surprised.
Su Miao waited for Duan Bainian’s answer with trepidation. After waiting for a long while, she said anxiously, “You… you said this morning that I could treat you as a friend!”
Duan Bainian only gave a light chuckle and didn’t answer.
Su Miao grew even more nervous. “What… what are you laughing at?”
Duan Bainian lightly bit her lower lip and stared at Su Miao with eyes full of mirth. “Do you want to be friends with me?”
Duan Bainian, who was usually gentle and soft, now had a hint of aggression in her gaze. Su Miao’s face felt so red and hot that it almost seemed to be emitting steam.
Su Miao shyly averted her eyes. “Yes.”
Duan Bainian acted as if she didn’t understand. “Yes what?”
Su Miao’s voice was as soft as a mosquito’s buzz. “I want to be friends with you…”
A deeper meaning flickered in Duan Bainian’s eyes as she smiled. “Of course we are friends.”
It was already five in the afternoon by the time they returned to the Film and Television City. Because the afternoon shoot had been delayed, the director immediately began making arrangements as soon as they arrived.
He had thought that since Su Miao’s delivery of lines had improved, they could speed up the filming progress… but unexpectedly, Su Miao’s acting ran into problems again.
The director looked like he was struggling with a “piece of iron that wouldn’t turn into steel.” “Su Miao! Do you even know what you’re acting right now? You are in a confrontation with your love rival! Can you please stop looking so happy?”
Su Miao felt full of grievances. She didn’t want to look this happy either, but as soon as she thought about Duan Bainian saying they were friends, she really couldn’t help wanting to smile.
Su Miao apologized repeatedly, “I’m sorry, Director. Let’s do it again. I promise there won’t be a problem this time.”
After being scolded, Su Miao finally settled her mind and finished the scene in one take.
Once today’s scenes were finished, Duan Bainian changed her clothes. She was just about to head back to the hotel with Xiao Yuan when she saw Su Miao coming over.
Usually, she and Su Miao only spent time together at night during rehearsals. Seeing Su Miao approach now was somewhat unexpected.
“What’s the matter?”
Su Miao looked happy. “Are you going back to the hotel? Let’s go together?”
It turned out she had specifically waited to go back with her.
Duan Bainian smiled and agreed. “Sure.” Then she said to Xiao Yuan, “You go on back first.”
Duan Bainian picked up her bag and beckoned to Su Miao. “Let’s go.”
Su Miao followed her new friend like a happy little puppy, her joy completely uncontainable.
Duan Bainian couldn’t help but tease her. “You’re this happy after being scolded by the director? Then I’ll strive to let the director scold you more often in the future.”
Su Miao, who was being made fun of, wasn’t upset at all. Not only was she not angry, she was dying of happiness.
She felt like nodding and swaying with joy because she finally had a friend!
The nighttime temperature was around ten degrees Celsius, and with a light breeze blowing, it was quite pleasant.
They ran into some of Duan Bainian’s fans on the way and took photos with them.
The two of them then went to eat together.
As they passed by one of the few specialty stores on the street, Su Miao asked, “Do you like new clothes? Let’s go in and take a look?”
Duan Bainian said, “I’m not buying clothes.”
Su Miao kept pulling her inside. “Just try some on; I’ll buy them for you!”
Duan Bainian was a bit shocked. Is this still that same shy fool? She actually dares to pull at me now?
Duan Bainian remained firm. “I don’t really need to buy clothes.”
This wasn’t a lie. When she was working, whether filming or going on a show, the production team would prepare the relevant costumes. When she wasn’t working, she rarely went out, so she had even less use for new clothes. Therefore, she truly wasn’t enthusiastic about shopping for clothes.
To her surprise, Su Miao started acting shamelessly. “Go on, go on! If you don’t go in, I’ll just keep pulling you and standing right here. See if you find that embarrassing or not.”
Duan Bainian looked at Su Miao in disbelief. “Are you being a brat with me?”
Su Miao sheepishly let go of her hand. “Do you… do you hate it when I’m like this?”
Duan Bainian thought about it and said, “Don’t overthink it; I don’t hate it. It’s just… you were originally so shy, so for you to suddenly be like this, I’m just not quite used to it.”
The difference between before they became friends and after they became friends was truly too large.
Su Miao touched her ear, her eyes dimming. “Don’t… don’t hate me. I won’t be so casual like that in the future.”
Duan Bainian was worried that Su Miao would overthink things, so she reached out and gently pinched her cheek. “Alright, I already told you not to overthink it. Fine, the two of us will go in and look at clothes!”
Su Miao’s eyes lit up again. “Really! Then let’s go, let’s go. I’ll buy clothes for you!”
Duan Bainian: “…………”
The clothes weren’t very expensive. Seeing Su Miao rush to pay the bill, Duan Bainian didn’t stop her, thinking she would just give her a return gift later.
Leaving the specialty store, Su Miao pulled Duan Bainian along the street again.
Duan Bainian was a bit puzzled. “What are you looking for?”
Su Miao, who was searching the storefronts, turned her head upon hearing the question with a distressed look. “Hengdian is way too underdeveloped! I want to buy things for you but I can’t find anywhere to do it. When the two of us get back to Beijing, I’ll make it up to you then, okay?”
Duan Bainian didn’t understand what the situation was. “Why do you keep wanting to buy me things? Haven’t you already given me new clothes?”
Su Miao explained very seriously, “Even though I didn’t have many friends before, I still know that you have to treat friends with sincerity for the relationship to last.”
Duan Bainian was once again shocked by the little fool’s mental logic. “So… your way of showing sincerity to a friend is to just keep buying and buying and buying?”
