I Love Her Because She’s Dim-Witted And Filthy Rich - Chapter 30
At this point, Duan Bainian’s confidence wavered. She had originally only intended to test the waters, but Su Miao’s current reaction was certainly not a positive response.
Duan Bainian gripped the steering wheel tightly and spoke through gritted teeth, “I’m saying, if you want me to stay by your side forever, I’m afraid you’ll have to date me.”
Su Miao’s eyes widened. “Date… date you?”
Duan Bainian looked straight into Su Miao’s eyes without saying a word.
Su Miao’s head was complete mush; the amount of information today was simply too much for her to process.
Duan Bainian said they should date?
Two girls dating?
Why did Duan Bainian say that? Was Duan Bainian also a lesbian?
Thinking of this, Su Miao blurted out, “Are you a lesbian?”
Duan Bainian: “………………” Could she please focus on the right point?
Receiving no answer, Su Miao asked again, “Duan Bainian, are you a lesbian? Didn’t you hate it when people said you were a lesbian before?”
Duan Bainian felt a surge of irritation. This was practically a confession, so what was wrong with Su Miao? Could she not grasp the priority here?
Could it be that she really was just being sentimental on her own?
She sighed softly. “Does that matter?”
Su Miao spoke weakly, “I… last time when someone joked that the two of us were like a lesbian couple, you were actually angry back then.”
Since things had reached this point, Duan Bainian decided to just throw caution to the wind. “I like you. The kind of ‘like’ that wants to date. What do you think?”
Su Miao looked at Duan Bainian in shock, unable to speak for a long time. Heavens, Duan Bainian said she wanted to date her?
Recovering from the shock, Su Miao’s face began to flush inch by inch. She whispered, “I… I like you too.”
The anxiety Duan Bainian had felt all night vanished instantly. To be certain, she confirmed again, “What kind of like? Like between friends, or the like that wants to become lovers?”
A flash of hesitation crossed Su Miao’s face, but she answered anyway, “It’s the kind of like that wants to become lovers.”
Duan Bainian relaxed completely. She leaned back lazily against the seat and smiled. “So, are the two of us in a relationship now?”
Su Miao opened her mouth. “That…” but she couldn’t finish the sentence.
A bad premonition flashed through Duan Bainian’s heart. She spoke slowly, “What do you want to say?”
Su Miao gave a fawning smile. “That… can we just not date? You don’t date anyone else, and I won’t date anyone else. Let’s just maintain our relationship as it is now, okay?”
Duan Bainian’s face went expressionless. “The relationship as it is now? What is our relationship right now?”
Su Miao felt guilty herself as she whispered, “Just… just the relationship of being each other’s one and only best friend.”
Duan Bainian was suddenly moved to angry laughter. “Only friend? How can a friend be the ‘only’ one?”
Su Miao stole a glance at Duan Bainian. At this moment, Duan Bainian wasn’t gentle at all.
She tugged at her skirt. “Anyway… just… isn’t our situation special?”
Duan Bainian asked, “Why don’t you want to define the relationship with me?”
Su Miao didn’t understand why Duan Bainian insisted on defining it. Wasn’t it good just like this—filming together, eating and playing together, and accompanying each other?
She lowered her head and muttered, “Why do we have to define it? Isn’t it good to keep things as they are? If two girls are dating and it gets out, it would be so embarrassing. And if my mom found out, elders can’t accept this kind of thing.”
Duan Bainian suddenly had a moment of clarity.
She had always thought the biggest problem was her “turning” Su Miao, because on one hand, Su Miao hadn’t “awakened” yet, and on the other, her conscience felt heavy.
But at this moment, she realized that perhaps the biggest problem lay in the fact that Su Miao… was truly still a child.
An overprotected child who lacked a sense of responsibility and was unable to be independent.
From childhood to adulthood, whether it was food, clothing, housing, transportation, work, or making friends, everything for Su Miao was handled entirely by He Aizhi.
To a certain extent, Su Miao lacked independent capability. Both economically and spiritually, she depended on her mother. Her first reaction to any problem was to hide behind her mother’s back.
Su Miao was used to living in an ivory tower; she couldn’t weather the storms, and she didn’t want to experience them.
Just like now, she admitted she liked her and enjoyed every moment they spent together, but she was unwilling to establish a formal dating relationship because this was a romance between two women—a romance that would bring storms into her life.
Duan Bainian couldn’t help but mock herself. Everyone said she was sophisticated and socially adept, so why couldn’t she see through Su Miao?
But she truly wasn’t reconciled. She confirmed with Su Miao once more, “Do you really not want to date me?”
Su Miao’s eyes darted around. “It’s not that I don’t want to… I just…”
She was interrupted halfway by Duan Bainian. “Fine, don’t say anymore. I understand.”
Su Miao looked at Duan Bainian sheepishly. “Duan Bainian, are you angry?”
Without a word, Duan Bainian started the car, turned around, and drove down a different road.
It wasn’t until they were halfway there that Su Miao reacted. “Duan Bainian, didn’t you say we were going to your house? Why are you driving toward my house?”
Duan Bainian remained silent until she stopped in front of Su Miao’s villa. “Get out.”
Su Miao was stunned. After a moment, her nose began to twitch. “I’m not getting out!”
Duan Bainian’s face was expressionless. “Hurry up.”
Su Miao stiffened her neck and said, “I just won’t!”
Duan Bainian reached over to unbuckle Su Miao’s seatbelt, opened the car door, and started pushing Su Miao out of the car. “Get out.”
Su Miao grabbed the back of the seat and started sobbing. “Duan Bainian! Don’t push me out! Don’t push me!”
Duan Bainian was also extremely angry. She wasn’t even the one crying, so why was this idiot acting so aggrieved?
She pried Su Miao’s hands away and said through gritted teeth, “Don’t you understand when I tell you to get out? Get out!”
Duan Bainian was usually incredibly gentle; Su Miao had never seen her like this.
Su Miao shivered in fear. By the time she reacted, she had already been pushed out of the car by Duan Bainian.
She watched Duan Bainian’s car drive further and further away, and finally burst into loud wailing.
The crying was so loud it drew the nanny out of the house. The nanny pulled Su Miao into the house, poured water, and brought food, but Su Miao still wouldn’t stop crying.
After crying for nearly half an hour, Su Miao grew tired. she got up and went upstairs to her room.
When He Aizhi returned home, she heard from the nanny that Su Miao had cried, so she went to Su Miao’s room.
When she pushed the door open, Su Miao was working on a puzzle.
Su Miao was already feeling miserable, and He Aizhi’s sudden entrance startled her, making her a bit displeased. “Mom, why didn’t you knock?”
He Aizhi gave Su Miao a swat. “I need to knock to enter your room?”
Su Miao curled her lip and said nothing.
He Aizhi asked, “The nanny said you weren’t home today. You went out to play?”
Su Miao: “Yeah, I went out.”
He Aizhi: “Looking for Duan Bainian again?”
At the mention of Duan Bainian, Su Miao couldn’t help but feel upset. She gave a low “mm.”
He Aizhi understood; it was likely related to Duan Bainian. “Don’t you usually stay at Duan Bainian’s place? Why did you come back today?”
Su Miao stammered, “She… she has things to do tonight. It wasn’t convenient for me to stay at her house.”
He Aizhi: “What could she have to do?”
Su Miao became irritable. “Oh, Mom, you’re so annoying. It’s late, I want to sleep.”
After being inexplicably snapped at, Ms. He went back to her room and called Duan Bainian.
Duan Bainian was a bit surprised to receive this call. There were no work issues to resolve recently, and it was the middle of the night—why was He Aizhi calling?
He Aizhi: “I heard from Su Miao that you two went out today, but when she got home, she was crying very hard. I wanted to check with you to see what happened.”
Duan Bainian felt a bit of regret. She had been so blinded by anger that she forgot about He Aizhi’s involvement. She shouldn’t have impulsively dumped Su Miao at her doorstep at night.
Duan Bainian could only play dumb. “Su Miao cried? Everything seemed fine today?”
He Aizhi sighed. “I only heard it from the nanny when I got home tonight. She said she was crying so hard she could barely breathe.”
Being questioned by He Aizhi like this was truly awkward for Duan Bainian. “Then maybe I did something today that she misunderstood? How about I go find her tomorrow to ask? Maybe I misunderstood something somewhere, it’s hard to say. Once I talk it out with her, it should be fine.”
He Aizhi thought about it and also felt it was just some misunderstanding between two “kids.” She replied, “I think so too. It’s not easy for Su Miao to find a bosom friend. Between friends, if there’s a misunderstanding, it’s better to clear it up in time.”
After hanging up, Duan Bainian didn’t move for a long time.
She had truly been blinded by anger tonight. Her words and actions were driven entirely by impulse. Looking back now, it was indeed inappropriate.
Just like now, it was clearly a matter between her and Su Miao, yet He Aizhi was stepping in to intervene. It was… uncomfortable.
The next morning, Duan Bainian came to Su Miao’s house as promised. He Aizhi was either off work or had stayed home because of this incident; she was in the living room drinking water.
Duan Bainian entered and greeted He Aizhi.
He Aizhi called upstairs, “Su Miao, come down. Duan Bainian is here to see you.”
After waiting a while without seeing Su Miao come down, He Aizhi said, “She’s really been spoiled rotten. Wait here, I’ll go up and call her.”
Duan Bainian quickly said, “No need, no need. I’ll just go up and find her myself.”
He Aizhi then called the nanny to lead Duan Bainian upstairs.
The nanny knocked on the door, and seeing Su Miao open it, she left.
Su Miao hadn’t expected Duan Bainian to come over; of course, she didn’t know He Aizhi had called her.
She was extremely conflicted. On one hand, she felt heartbroken that Duan Bainian had pushed her out of the car, but on the other, she felt guilty because of what she had said last night.
After a long while, she spoke softly, “Why did you come over?”
Duan Bainian said, “I think there are some things I should say clearly to you.”
