Until the paperwork for the new car was completely finished, Su Miao remained in a daze.

Just now, Duan Bainian actually took the initiative to let that man pay? So, did Duan Bainian also like that man?

It was already past six in the evening. After bidding Baron farewell, Duan Bainian got into the new car, preparing to drive home.

After being in the car for a good while, she noticed Su Miao hadn’t followed. Duan Bainian looked back and saw Su Miao huddled on the sofa in the dealership, looking utterly dejected.

She got out of the car and walked over to Su Miao. “What are you dazing off for?”

Su Miao looked up. Because of the backlight from the lamps, she couldn’t clearly see Duan Bainian’s expression. She lowered her head again. “Nothing.”

Duan Bainian said, “I’m driving home now. Are you going to sit here forever?”

Su Miao finally snapped out of it. “Ah? You’re going home? Then… let’s go.”

Duan Bainian gave Su Miao a deep look. Without saying a word, she headed straight back to the car.

From the moment they got in, neither of them spoke.

After driving for a short distance, Duan Bainian asked, “Should I take you home, or are you coming to my place?”

Su Miao’s mouth drooped. “To your place.”

The more dejected Su Miao became, the happier Duan Bainian felt.

“What’s wrong? You seem to be in a bad mood.”

To confirm her suspicion, Duan Bainian reached out and took Su Miao’s hand, holding it in hers.

There was no struggle to pull away.

Duan Bainian asked softly, “Did you have a question you wanted to ask me just now? Say it, I’m listening.”

Duan Bainian turned to look at Su Miao for a moment, a smile she couldn’t hide in her eyes. “Are you talking about Baron? He is indeed pursuing me, but a relationship isn’t a certainty.”

Su Miao spoke up hurriedly, “Won’t there be a relationship? Do you not like him?”

Duan Bainian replied, “I don’t like him for the time being.”

Su Miao immediately followed up, “What about in the future?”

Duan Bainian smiled and didn’t speak.

This silence caused Su Miao’s heart to plummet rapidly. She pulled her hand back from Duan Bainian’s grasp, turned her head, and leaned against the car window, watching the streetlights recede behind them.

Duan Bainian tested the waters. “Do you want me to be in a relationship? If you don’t want me to date Baron, I’ll reject him.”

Su Miao sat up straight abruptly. “Really? You’ll reject him?”

Duan Bainian gave Su Miao a meaningful look. “If that’s what you want.”

Su Miao blurted out anxiously, “Of course I don’t want you to!”

Duan Bainian chuckled. “Why don’t you want me to?”

Su Miao was at a loss for an answer.

After hesitating for a long while, she whispered, “If you start a relationship, you won’t have time to spend with me.”

Duan Bainian asked, “You want me to accompany you all the time?”

Su Miao turned her head away awkwardly. “Yeah, I want you to accompany me all the time.”

Of course she wanted Duan Bainian to be with her all the time. When they were busy, they could record shows and film together; when they were free, they could go traveling or huddle at home watching movies. She had even bought a projector online, and it was supposed to arrive in a couple of days.

Duan Bainian pulled the car over to the side of the road and then spoke seriously, “But Su Miao, in the latter half of one’s life, people are meant to be with a partner. Have you ever seen anyone stay with just a friend forever?”

Duan Bainian felt she had been obvious enough; she was just one step away from confessing to Su Miao. Of course, she was afraid her suspicion might be wrong, so she left herself some room. If she hadn’t guessed wrong, Su Miao should be able to understand her underlying meaning now.

However, she truly overestimated Su Miao’s IQ.
