I Love Her Because She’s Dim-Witted And Filthy Rich - Chapter 28
Duan Bainian changed her clothes and took a taxi with Su Miao to a café.
Walking all the way inside, a young man was waiting.
Su Miao was somewhat surprised. “It’s a man?”
Duan Bainian didn’t speak, but went straight up to greet the man. “Hey, Baron, sorry, I’m late.”
Seeing Duan Bainian, the man’s smile was brilliant. “No, I arrived early; you arrived just in time. Have a seat and some tea; Mr. Ji will be here shortly.”
Baron had been a hot new-generation screenwriter for the past two years, but Duan Bainian had known him for a long time.
She and Baron were in the same department but different classes in university. At that time, both had participated in the school’s micro-movie club and cooperated often, becoming quite familiar over time. Back then, Baron had even pursued her, but it came to nothing after he was rejected.
Later, she had accidentally entered a talent show competition and became famous overnight, and contact between the two gradually decreased.
However, even so, during the year she was at the height of her popularity, she had made a cameo appearance in Baron’s micro-movie. Last year, Baron had returned the favor by introducing Duan Bainian to a third-lead female role in a period drama, so their relationship remained decent.
Duan Bainian pulled Su Miao down to sit, introduced both sides to each other, and smiled. “I haven’t seen you in a year; you’ve become more and more handsome.”
Baron laughed loudly. “I haven’t seen you in a year, and you are as charming as ever.”
Su Miao sat to the side, looking at this man and then at Duan Bainian. The two were chatting and laughing as if they were incredibly close. She wanted to interrupt them but was embarrassed to speak, so she could only drink water mouthful after mouthful, unconsciously setting her glass down on the table with a series of loud thuds.
Only then did Baron notice Su Miao’s abnormality. He smiled and said, “Hey, little cutie, you don’t seem very happy?”
Su Miao had always been terribly timid and only dared to harbor a secret sulk. She hadn’t expected this person to talk to her, and she spoke in a panic, “I’m not.”
Baron laughed. “Really? I feel like you’re about to dismantle this table.”
Su Miao: “………………”
Su Miao glanced at Duan Bainian. At the moment, the other woman was acting like an outsider, drinking her coffee in a dignified and elegant manner as if Su Miao had nothing to do with her. The more Su Miao thought about it, the angrier she got, glaring at the table and ignoring Baron.
Seeing that Su Miao didn’t respond, Baron went back to chatting heatedly with Duan Bainian.
After chatting for a while, Baron took a phone call saying that Mr. Ji was at the door, so he went out to welcome Mr. Ji in.
Su Miao quietly finished two glasses of lemon juice until her teeth were almost set on edge from the sourness, and finally understood what was going on.
Mr. Ji was involved in film and television investment and had taken a fancy to Baron’s newly written script. Baron wanted Duan Bainian to play the female lead, which led to this meeting.
After seeing Mr. Ji off, Duan Bainian expressed her gratitude by saying she wanted to treat Baron to a meal.
Baron waved his hand repeatedly. “I only made a recommendation; whether it works out depends on you. Invite me to dinner after it’s settled.”
Duan Bainian smiled. “I should treat you regardless of whether it’s settled. It just so happens I’m going to a 4S dealership this afternoon. The appointment is for 2:00 PM; going there after lunch is just right.”
Baron readily agreed. “Oh, what are you going to the 4S shop for? Is there a problem with your car?”
Duan Bainian: “I want to get a new car. The one I have now is just a commuter car I bought a couple of years ago. I always feel the space is too small and want to change to an SUV.”
Baron understood. “Is there a model you’ve got your eye on? I’ve done quite a bit of research on cars; I can go with you to take a look and avoid any pitfalls.”
Duan Bainian spoke with a smile, “I was just worried about falling into a trap.”
On the side, Su Miao was about to die of anger. What was with these two? The more they talked, the happier they got?
She grabbed Duan Bainian’s wrist. “I understand cars too!”
Duan Bainian spoke lukewarmly, “Is that so?”
Su Miao tried to prove herself. “Our family has several SUVs, and I think they are all very good!”
Duan Bainian pulled her hand away from Su Miao. “I’m poor. I can’t afford the cars your family has.”
Su Miao froze for a moment. She remembered that previously, after a bout of “drunken truth-telling,” she had given Duan Bainian a few million in acting fees. It shouldn’t be to the point where she couldn’t afford a car, right?
Could it be because she had to pay back her mother’s debts, so she had no money?
No, the next time she went home, she had to discuss it with her mother—don’t always pressure Duan Bainian to pay back the money.
Su Miao’s thoughts wandered quite far until the sound of Duan Bainian knocking on the car window came: “Get in.”
The three went to eat Japanese food. In the end, Duan Bainian didn’t let Su Miao pay the bill and settled the account directly.
After lunch, Duan Bainian put on a mask and went to the 4S dealership. She took a fancy to an SUV that was in stock and was ready to pay immediately.
Unexpectedly, she was stopped by Baron. He grabbed the card from Duan Bainian’s hand and pulled out his own. “Swipe this one.”
Duan Bainian looked at him in surprise. “What are you doing?”
Baron blinked. “You know why.”
Duan Bainian was stunned for a moment. Realizing Baron’s meaning, she quickly refused. “No, no, no, I’ll do it myself.”
Su Miao, who had been ignored all day, understood clearly by now, no matter how silly she was. As it turned out, this man wasn’t some “friend” at all!
He was full of bad intentions!
Su Miao stepped forward, pushed Baron aside, and held out her Alipay to the dealership staff. “Scan this!”
The clerk was dazed and, for a moment, didn’t know whose money to take.
Duan Bainian, having recovered her senses, felt both annoyed and amused.
Baron was rushing to swipe his card to show off because he wanted to pursue her. But what was the meaning of Su Miao rushing to pay? Did she even know what she was doing right now?
Duan Bainian pressed down the phone in Su Miao’s hand. “I don’t need you to give me money.”
Su Miao stubbornly raised her phone again. “Then you need him to give it?”
Duan Bainian’s pent-up frustration from the past few days suddenly found an outlet. She looked at Su Miao with a half-smile. “That’s right, I need him to give it.”
Su Miao only felt her nose tingle. At the thought of Duan Bainian having a boyfriend, she wished she were a man so she could openly drive this guy away!
She blinked hard, trying to keep the tears from falling. She didn’t want to cry in front of this man.
The clerk responsible for swiping the card was frightened. She spoke hesitantly, “Um… maybe you should discuss it and decide who is paying?”
Su Miao: “I’ll pay!”
Baron: “I’ll pay.”
The two spoke at the same time.
Baron’s expression was a bit strange. He always felt that this “little cutie” following Duan Bainian wasn’t quite right, but he couldn’t put his finger on what was wrong.
The clerk could see now that the decision on who would pay lay with this beautiful woman wearing a mask.
The clerk looked at Duan Bainian inquiringly.
Duan Bainian looked at Su Miao; the little fool’s eyes were already red.
Why did Su Miao have such great hostility toward Baron?
A thought emerged inexplicably in the depths of her heart. An unbelievable thought.
She wanted to test it.
So, she signaled the clerk to swipe Baron’s card.
She glanced at Su Miao seemingly casually and smiled. “Baron, thank you for giving me this car. I like it very much.”
