I Love Her Because She’s Dim-Witted And Filthy Rich - Chapter 27
Early on the morning of the fourth day, Su Miao had her driver drop her off at the building where Duan Bainian lived.
In the early morning of late September, there was already a slight chill in the air. Su Miao had left in a hurry, wearing only a cotton and linen dress.
Shivering, she went to knock on the door. After a long while, the door finally opened.
Duan Bainian had just woken up; her silk pajamas were loose and draped casually. She looked somewhat surprised. “Why are you here?”
Having not seen Duan Bainian for several days, Su Miao was overjoyed at this moment. “I was too bored at home, so I had the driver bring me here… I also brought you mangoes! They’re extra-large and extra sweet!”
Duan Bainian followed her gaze to the bag of mangoes Su Miao had brought. It was a full bag, and the weight had left deep red marks on her pale, plump fingers.
Duan Bainian reached out to take them. “Did you buy these downstairs?”
Su Miao looked proud. “How could the shops downstairs be open at this hour? These were sent to my house by someone. They said they’re some kind of Australian mango, super sweet! I knew you liked mangoes, so I brought them specifically for you.”
Someone had sent two boxes; she had woken up early specifically to pick through them, choosing the ones that looked the best and most delicious just for Duan Bainian to eat.
Duan Bainian looked at the still-shivering Su Miao with a complex expression.
So, she brought them here specifically for me?
After a moment of hesitation, she reached out and pulled Su Miao by the arm. “Come in. It’s quite cold outside.”
Su Miao closed the door behind her, her eyes sparkling. “Try them quickly, they’re really delicious! You’ll definitely love them!”
Duan Bainian placed the mangoes on the table. “I haven’t washed up yet. I’ll eat them in a bit.”
Su Miao felt a bit disappointed. Duan Bainian loved mangoes so much that she thought she would be impatient to taste them.
However, it was true that it wasn’t suitable to eat before washing up. So, Su Miao cheered up again. It didn’t matter; she would peel and cut them now so that Duan Bainian could eat them directly later.
When Duan Bainian came out after washing up, the mango had already been cut into small cubes and placed on a plate. Su Miao handed her a fork with a grin. “Try some.”
Su Miao’s hands were still sticky with yellow mango juice, clearly showing the effort, she had just put into dicing them.
It made sense; someone like Su Miao, who surely lived a life of luxury at home where everything was done for her, had done quite well to cut them like this.
Duan Bainian instinctively took the fork and put a piece of mango into her mouth, yet she somehow couldn’t taste the sweetness.
It was absurd to say, but at this moment, she was so envious of Su Miao—who could eat when she wanted to eat and play when she wanted to play. If Su Miao liked her, she could openly cling to her and be good to her.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t the kind of “liking” she wanted.
Does this fool know how annoying her current actions are?
…This fool, of course, did not know.
Duan Bainian absentmindedly ate a few pieces of mango before standing up to return to her room. “I have something to do and need to go out later. Do you want to go home or what?”
Su Miao followed her into the bedroom. “What are you going out for? Can I go with you?”
Duan Bainian’s movements as she looked for clothes paused for a moment. “I’ve already made plans with a friend.”
Su Miao suddenly grew anxious. “How do you have other friends?”
Duan Bainian was actually moved to laughter by her anger. “Why can’t I have other friends?”
Su Miao looked aggrieved. “We clearly agreed that the two of us are best friends.”
Duan Bainian replied, “You said it yourself—best friends. Not ‘only’ friends. Why can’t I have others?”
These words left Su Miao unable to argue. She opened her mouth and spoke weakly, “Then… then I’ll go with you later. The three of us can have lunch together. It’s my treat.”
Duan Bainian asked, “Together? What, do you suddenly like interacting with strangers now?”
Su Miao looked at Duan Bainian with a face full of frustration. She certainly didn’t like interacting with strangers, but this friend who had suddenly appeared gave her a sense of crisis. In all the time she had known Duan Bainian, she had never heard her mention other friends. She had always believed she was Duan Bainian’s only friend.
She didn’t dare tell Duan Bainian that she was a lesbian. Originally, she thought it would be fine to continue being the “only best friend” forever. But now, what was this business with a suddenly appearing new friend?
Su Miao pouted. “Anyway, I’m following you later.”
Duan Bainian stared fixedly at Su Miao. After a long while, she smiled. “Then follow along.”
