I Love Her Because She’s Dim-Witted And Filthy Rich - Chapter 13
Duan Bainian was not entirely clear on the specific details of the contract termination. Out of her trust for Su Miao, she had extended a few degrees of trust toward He Aizhi as well.
After a stalemate lasting nearly a month, just as the scent of osmanthus began to permeate the air, Duan Bainian successfully terminated her contract.
It was evening when He Aizhi called to deliver the good news. Hearing this, Su Miao, who was standing nearby, was so happy she nearly jumped for joy.
Su Miao’s eyes widened with excitement. “Duan Bainian, let’s go eat something delicious to celebrate!”
Duan Bainian readily agreed; after all, this was indeed an event worth celebrating.
The two went to eat hotpot in high spirits. Because she was so happy, Duan Bainian indulged herself for once, ordering a table full of dishes. They didn’t leave the restaurant until they were so full their stomachs felt like they might burst.
On the way back, they passed a flower shop. Duan Bainian went inside and bought a bouquet of pansies, thinking that her hotel room was perhaps too plain and that a bouquet of flowers might add a touch of “home” to the atmosphere.
All along the way, Su Miao chattered incessantly while Duan Bainian listened with a smile, occasionally chiming in—it was harmonious and pleasant.
When they stepped out of the elevator, Su Miao said as she walked away, “I’m going back to get the script. I’ll come find you very soon.”
Duan Bainian nodded and walked toward her own room.
The door was wide open.
Duan Bainian became alert. She peered inside and saw a thin, small figure sitting upright and proper on the sofa.
It was Xiao Yuan.
Duan Bainian breathed a sigh of relief and walked forward. “Xiao Yuan, why didn’t you close the door?”
Hearing Duan Bainian’s voice, Xiao Yuan’s entire body tensed up. She mouthed something silently, frantically signaling for her to leave.
Duan Bainian realized there seemed to be danger in the room. Just as she was preparing to leave to find help, she saw a man emerge from her bedroom. It was Tang Shi.
Tang Shi wore a half-smile as he walked toward Duan Bainian step by step.
Duan Bainian was terrified for a moment. Once she reacted, she tried to turn and flee, but her wrist was grabbed by Tang Shi, who had rushed forward.
Duan Bainian felt as if the bones in her wrist were being crushed. She forced a smile and said, “President Tang, what are you doing? You’re about to break my hand.”
Tang Shi tightened his grip a bit more and laughed. “Isn’t it because I’m afraid you’ll run away? If you don’t run, why would I grab you?”
Duan Bainian’s eyelids twitched. She tried to seek help from Xiao Yuan, but Tang Shi deliberately blocked her line of sight.
Tang Shi gave a light chuckle. He looked at Duan Bainian, but his words were directed at Xiao Yuan: “Get lost back to your own room immediately. Don’t meddle in business that isn’t yours.”
Xiao Yuan stood up tremblingly. As she passed the table, she tried to retrieve her phone, but Tang Shi glared at her, scaring her so much she withdrew her hand and flew back to her own room.
Seeing that Xiao Yuan had entered her room, Tang Shi went to close the suite door and then dragged Duan Bainian all the way into her bedroom.
Duan Bainian resisted in every way possible, but in front of a man, her modicum of strength was almost no different from that of a young child.
Su Miao brought the script over to find Duan Bainian, but seeing the door tightly shut, she found it a bit strange.
Over these past few months, because she always looked for Duan Bainian at night to practice lines, Duan Bainian would usually leave the door unlocked for her specifically around this time.
Su Miao knocked on the door—thud, thud—and after a good while, the door finally opened.
Seeing it was Su Miao, the panic-stricken Xiao Yuan suddenly had a glint of hope in her eyes. She tremblingly pointed toward Duan Bainian’s bedroom. “You… go save her, quickly.”
Su Miao’s heart skipped a beat. She ran to the bedroom door; through the door, the faint sounds of a struggle and an argument could be heard.
Su Miao pounded on the door. “Duan Bainian! Duan Bainian!”
The sounds of fighting inside came to an abrupt halt.
A moment later, the bedroom door was suddenly swung open, bringing a gust of wind that slapped sharply against Su Miao’s face.
Su Miao looked up and saw it was that greasy man with the slicked-back hair from last time.
Tang Shi looked impatient. “Get lost, now!”
Faced with this man, Su Miao had to strain to look up just to make eye contact. She immediately felt intimidated. This man was simply too tall.
Su Miao was secretly calculating in her head: if a fight broke out, what were her chances of winning?
It seemed… not even ten percent.
Su Miao was scared to death, but she tried her best to look fierce. “You… you’re the one who should get lost! I… I already called the police just now! Do you hear me?!”
Tang Shi’s face was full of mockery. “Well, aren’t you impressive.”
Seeing that she hadn’t scared the man, Su Miao was worried sick. She wanted to go out and call for people, but she was afraid that in that short time, something might happen to Duan Bainian. So, she stood at the door without moving, rooted there like a wooden stake.
Seeing that Su Miao wouldn’t budge, Tang Shi grew even more impatient. He shoved Su Miao to the ground. Just as he was about to close the door, he discovered Duan Bainian was pressing against the other side, trying to sneak away.
Tang Shi suddenly laughed. He grabbed Duan Bainian and stared into her eyes. “You want to go—AHHH!!”
Before he could finish his sentence, Tang Shi let out a miserable scream. He clutched his crotch with both hands and fell to the floor in pain. It was… a truly pathetic sight.
Duan Bainian looked at Su Miao in shock.
Meanwhile, the culprit of this moment looked on with disbelief. “I… I really knocked him down?!”
Taking advantage of the chaos, Duan Bainian immediately jumped out of the bedroom, grabbed Su Miao, and ran out of the suite.
Even after running all the way down to the lobby, Duan Bainian was still shaken. She said in disbelief, “How did you think to kick him there? What if you missed and just made him angrier?”
Su Miao was a bit dazed. “Im… impossible to miss. Two years ago, my mom specifically hired someone to teach me women’s self-defense. I… I practiced it many times.”
Duan Bainian burst out laughing. She hadn’t expected this “dummy” to actually have some skill.
The series of commotions had long since alerted the film crew, and relevant staff soon came out to handle the aftermath. Considering Tang Shi’s status in the industry and the impact on both parties, the matter was ultimately not blown out of proportion; it ended with apologies and gifts.
After the night’s ordeal, Duan Bainian was exhausted. Thinking of going back to rest early, she headed back to her room.
Arriving at her door and seeing Su Miao still following her, Duan Bainian thought Su Miao still wanted to practice lines. She patted Su Miao’s head. “I’m really tired today, how about we don’t practice lines tonight?”
Su Miao looked confused. “Practice lines? What lines?”
Had she misunderstood? Duan Bainian was puzzled. “Then why are you still following me? It’s late, hurry back and get some rest.”
Su Miao wasn’t thinking about the script; she was worried that this situation might happen again. She was simply concerned for Duan Bainian’s safety.
And so, Su Miao said with total sincerity, “Duan Bainian, let me move in and live with you.”
