I Just Want to Spoil and Run Away with the Abused Female Lead [Quick Transmigration] - Chapter 24
As Shi Xingrao’s words fell, the air suddenly grew still.
Lin Yi inwardly gasped this little fox sure had the nerve to say that. She had never seen Shi Xingrao speak so boldly in front of Lin Shuangran.
Was it because she thought Lin Shuangran would be intimidated by such words?
Sure enough, seeing that she didn’t respond, Shi Xingrao flashed a smug grin at her, radiating arrogance to the extreme.
Coveting her younger sister’s girlfriend, she had never imagined she would ever covet someone else’s partner. But now, she felt a flicker of that desire, from the initial curiosity to wanting to witness Shi Xingrao’s inner turmoil, or perhaps to see her ruthless side.
Just as Shi Xingrao was about to turn toward the back seat, Lin Yi blocked her at the car door. “To what lengths would you go for Lin Shuangran? If I were to covet you, would you crawl into my bed for her sake?”
Shi Xingrao: “?”
Cat Ears: “!”
Was this really happening? Was this the kind of content Cat Ears was allowed to hear?
A crack appeared in Shi Xingrao’s expression. “Duoduo, are you really sure Lin Yi is normal?”
Cat Ears: “…”
It wasn’t entirely sure.
This wasn’t a one-to-one customized nemesis for Shi Xingrao.
“What’s wrong? Scared? Shi Xingrao, don’t you think it’s amusing to curry favor with someone you despise for the sake of the person you love?”
Shi Xingrao: “…”
“Fine, if you won’t help, then I’ll manage without you!” Shi Xingrao shot the woman a glare and turned to leave, but Lin Yi grabbed her hand.
“Get in the car. I promised Lin Shuangran I’d take you home. Besides, you were the one who started with the shameless talk. I was just responding.”
Shi Xingrao: “…”
Because of Lin Shuangran, both Lin Yi and Shi Xingrao took a step back. Shi Xingrao didn’t storm off, and Lin Yi didn’t force her to sit beside her.
Even though Yu Chen had never spoken to her in such explicit terms, Shi Xingrao couldn’t shake the feeling that Lin Yi reminded her of Yu Chen her natural adversary, someone who could infuriate her with a single sentence and always managed to outmaneuver her with just a few words.
On the road,
Lin Yi suddenly spoke up. “Aren’t you going to tell me what you’re planning? What do you want me to do for you?”
Shi Xingrao turned her gaze out the window. “Didn’t you say you wouldn’t help me? Since you’re not going to help, what’s the point in saying anything?”
“Even if I don’t help you, can’t I help Lin Shuangran?”
Shi Xingrao propped her chin on her hand, growing even more confused about Lin Yi. One moment, it was for Lin Shuangran’s sake; the next, she demanded something in return for helping Lin Shuangran. She was a walking contradiction.
“I have an opportunity for you to take over the Lu Corporation. Are you interested?”
Lin Yi’s slender, pale fingers gripped the steering wheel, her fingertips subtly tracing its edge. “Are you afraid Lin Shuangran might eventually choose to marry Lu Ze and abandon you?”
“Feeling that insecure?”
Shi Xingrao rolled her eyes. What a joke. Lin Shuangran might soften toward others and let them hurt her, but she would never let anyone hurt Shi Xingrao.
Lin Shuangran would never make her sad.
Shi Xingrao ignored Lin Yi’s question and changed the subject. “Lu Ze’s game is about to launch. The launch day is going to be quite eventful.”
“Doesn’t Miss Lin’s subsidiary have a similar competing product? Why not release it ahead of schedule?”
“Since Miss Lin intends to seize the Lu family’s market share, why not step over them to rise to the top right now?”
Lin Yi lazily lifted her eyelids. “You seem quite familiar with the Lin family’s situation.”
Probably even Lin Shuangran didn’t know the Lin family as well as Shi Xingrao did.
“Just one thing you said isn’t quite right the Lin family’s game and Lu Ze’s game aren’t competitors. It’s just that the Lin family’s game is still in the optimization phase after testing and won’t be completed anytime soon. With no promotional efforts yet, wouldn’t it be inappropriate to launch the server directly?”
“I can help with that.”
Shi Xingrao twirled the ends of her hair, a hint of bold confidence curling at the corners of her lips. “Sister Lin Yi, are you tempted enough now?”
Lin Yi subtly observed the girl’s unrestrained and audacious demeanor through the rearview mirror. She had underestimated this little fox it seemed Shi Xingrao had already grasped all the necessary information, and she herself was likely just a pawn in her hands.
Perhaps even a dispensable one at that.
She probably wasn’t all that important to Shi Xingrao either.
As for why Shi Xingrao was doing all this, in the end, it was still for Lin Shuangran.
Including letting her profit and allowing the Lin family to dominate it was all part of protecting Lin Shuangran. A powerful background would give Lin Shuangran the confidence to choose the life she wanted.
Shi Xingrao knew they were on the same side when it came to protecting Lin Shuangran.
Lin Yi smiled self-deprecatingly. From beginning to end, she had been nothing but a tool first, her mother’s tool to protect Lin Shuangran and resist their father, and now, Shi Xingrao’s tool to shield Lin Shuangran.
No one knew that she never wanted to be a profit-driven businesswoman.
Lin Yi: “Alright, I’m still interested in making money. I’ll pick you up tomorrow, and you can come to the company with me.”
Shi Xingrao didn’t refuse, which meant she agreed.
After a while, Lin Yi spoke again, slowly. “It’s just, I really don’t understand why you’re planning so much for Lin Shuangran right now.”
“You’re not planning to abandon her, are you?”
As she said this, Lin Yi slammed on the brakes, turned her head, and stared straight at Shi Xingrao.
The smile on Shi Xingrao’s lips froze for a moment, only to deepen in the next second, like an intoxicating wine that could make one’s heart flutter.
“Don’t smile at me like that. If you weren’t leaving, you could protect Lin Shuangran perfectly well on your own.”
“At the very least, you wouldn’t need to be so impatient.”
Lin Yi was truly sharp she had seen right through her with a single glance. Shi Xingrao lowered her gaze. “I don’t want to leave Sister either. I’ve already thought of the best solution.”
She couldn’t stay in this world for long. She could only finish her tasks as quickly as possible and return to Lin Shuangran.
Lin Yi suddenly felt a surge of irritation. “Not wanting to” and “not being able to” were two different things in other words, she hadn’t guessed wrong.
Countless thoughts raced through her mind, like, “If you’re sick, go get treatment now,” or “If you have some hardship, you can tell me, I can help you.”
But in the end, Lin Yi said none of it. Shi Xingrao wasn’t foolish unless there was truly no way for her to stay, she would have found a way to remain.
“I understand. I can temporarily reconcile with you, and I won’t tell Lin Shuangran about your situation.”
“But don’t expect me to go easy on you just because you’re leaving. Living a long life is my own ability don’t count on my pity.”
Shi Xingrao: “…”
Just as Shi Xingrao was about to walk away after getting out of the car, she heard Lin Yi’s remark. She halted her steps and couldn’t resist retorting, “Go ahead and live your life, who could possibly outlive you?”
