- Chapter 5 - Don’t Just Copy Others! Thank You!
“Aren’t you going to change your clothes? Going to meet your crush?”
The other two roommates in the dorm hadn’t returned yet. Both of them were in relationships and were straight.
As for the two of them, they were both lesbians. Lin Ruocheng often marveled at the peculiarity of their dorm arrangement.
Two straight people and two gay people assigned to the same dorm, it was quite novel, to say the least.
Being the vice president of the student council was anything but great.
Now, she even felt like resigning.
It was truly exhausting. Why had she impulsively agreed to accompany Song Wanqing back then?
“I’ll change after finishing this game. I’m really nervous, so this is my way of relaxing. Do you want to try playing a round?”
“No, thanks. It’s not me who’s going on a date. Why should I be nervous?”
Lin Ruocheng glanced at her and rolled her eyes.
“You’re just bored. Keeping yourself busy would help.”
Lin Ruocheng busied herself with her work. With the new freshmen arriving recently, the student council had become even busier.
Of course, it wasn’t members like Song Wanqing who were busy, it was leaders like her.
Especially the vice president, who was even busier than the president.
Suddenly, Song Wanqing, who had been playing the game, sat up seriously.
“Godfather, help! The opponent sent a message.”
“Speak.”
Lin Ruocheng really didn’t have much time to spare to look at Song Wanqing’s phone.
Besides, the two of them were the main characters in this romance, not her.
“She said, ‘When are we going to the sports field? I want to see you sooner.'”
After saying this, Song Wanqing started giggling incessantly.
She looked no different from someone with a few screws loose.
Was it really that big of a deal? Nothing much had even happened yet.
Moreover, after witnessing the awkward exchanges between the two of them, Lin Ruocheng was certain that message hadn’t come from the other person.
It was probably Fu Yanxi’s doing.
“Reply and say, ‘How about in five minutes? I also really want to see you sooner, sister. I don’t want to wait a single minute longer.'”
Song Wanqing carefully typed out exactly what Lin Ruocheng had said and sent it.
She checked the time, five minutes felt incredibly tense.
Her heart felt like it was about to leap out of her chest.
She soaked her white sneakers in a plastic basin of water.
Then, she changed her clothes.
It was still a short-sleeved top and cropped pants. But then again, it was only because of Song Wanqing’s looks that she could pull it off.
If it were anyone else dressed like that, both the person and the outfit should be thrown straight into the trash, that would be the correct response. She had been an athlete since childhood, and this style actually suited her quite well, giving off a handsome and sharp vibe. Her short, layered wolf-cut hairstyle added to the effect.
Looking at her now, she actually looked pretty good.
“Bring mosquito repellent, floral water, a small mirror, and your touch-up makeup kit. Carry a small bag with tissues, wet wipes, and band-aids. If the other person is wearing high heels, their heels might get blisters. Also, take the small gift you bought yesterday. That should be all for now.”
Song Wanqing obediently prepared everything as instructed.
Two minutes later, Lin Ruocheng also stood up. She was already used to this.
Back in her freshman year, as a new student herself, she had already helped several couples get together, partly to earn some pocket money, but mostly because she simply enjoyed playing matchmaker.
“Let’s go. It’s best to arrive on time and leave a good impression.”
…
Fu Yanxi was also a bit busy, but under her best friend’s coercion and persuasion, she reluctantly agreed to go out with her.
From the looks of it, one might think Fu Yanxi was the one falling in love.
Having Yu Qiuli act as her love advisor?
Fu Yanxi was absolutely against it, what good could a socially awkward person possibly do as a strategist?
When she exchanged emojis with her, the only one she ever used was the face with a hand over the mouth, laughing till crying.
There was no need for the other person to act as a strategist, her budding feelings of love were extinguished before they even had a chance to ignite.
A little past eight in the evening.
The school’s sports field was still crowded, with young couples enjoying their time together.
There were also senior students from various clubs busy with recruitment activities.
Lin Ruocheng rarely went out in the evenings.
Partly because she was lazy, but mostly because she simply didn’t have the time.
Most of her time was dedicated to work.
Even though she was only a sophomore, she had already started earning money through her job.
Creating small games to sell was just a matter of coding, not particularly difficult. Though she didn’t produce many, they were profitable!
Releasing one game a year could earn her around four to five hundred thousand yuan.
Her family wasn’t poor.
In fact, they were quite well-off. She had two mothers.
Lin Ruocheng spotted Fu Yanxi and waved to her.
Fu Yanxi noticed her too.
She walked over with Yu Qiuli in tow.
“Say hello,” Lin Ruocheng prompted.
Only then did she realize that she had been the one steering the conversation all along. Weren’t these two supposed to be the ones falling in love?
Couldn’t they at least try to be a little more proactive?
“Oh, hello, my name is Song Wanqing.”
“Mm, hello, I’m Yu Qiuli.”
Lin Ruocheng & Fu Yanxi: “…”
Alright then. These two socially awkward people were hopeless! Completely hopeless!
Lin Ruocheng made up an excuse to step away and crouched down at a distance. She couldn’t take it anymore, really couldn’t.
With such socially awkward friends, she wondered how the two of them managed to hold a conversation alone.
They’d probably kill the mood instantly, wouldn’t they?
“Didn’t you say you were going to walk her around the field? Why are you just standing there? Get moving!”
Following the instruction, Song Wanqing slowly started walking Yu Qiuli around the field.
Lin Ruocheng crouched at the highest point, keeping a close watch.
What else could she do? It wasn’t like she could just abandon her role now, could she?
She noticed someone approaching out of the corner of her eye. Just from the faint scent of cold perfume, she knew it was Fu Yanxi.
She didn’t even bother to look at her.
Since the other person was acting as the love strategist, a competitive spark ignited within her.
There was no way she was going to lose!
Besides, strategists never step onto the battlefield themselves, right?
Lin Ruocheng shifted slightly to the side.
Fu Yanxi didn’t move.
Summer mosquitoes were truly annoying. Lin Ruocheng heard the other strategist scratch her arm.
She handed over the bottle of floral water she had brought with her.
“Give her the mosquito repellent you brought. And let her know beforehand.”
“This is for you.”
Fu Yanxi took the floral water.
After spraying it on herself a couple of times, she handed it back.
Glancing at the other’s face, she blurted out without thinking, “Your eyelashes are so long.”
Lin Ruocheng turned her gaze back and suddenly leaned in close.
“Want to take a closer look? They might seem even longer up close~”
She deliberately lowered her voice, adding a hint of allure.
The other strategist was momentarily at a loss for words, as if her system had crashed.
Whether it was because she was flustered by the other’s beauty or something else, Fu Yanxi could only hear her own heartbeat quickening.
Lin Ruocheng lightly tapped the back of her hand with a fingertip.
There were no further actions.
Yet she could feel her breathing growing rapid.
Song Wanqing and Yu Qiuli were puzzled by their respective strategists’ remarks, but since they said so, there must be a reason behind it.
Copying each other’s actions, they happened to be caught in the act by the two strategists. Song Wanqing actually leaned in and earnestly examined the other’s eyelashes.
She even deliberately turned on a flashlight.
“Hmm, they are indeed long.”
Lin Ruocheng & Fu Yanxi: “…”
