- I Helped My Best Friend with Her Romance—and Fell for the Enemy’s Strategist
- Chapter 3 - What Kind of Human-Robot Pairing Is This?
“Sister, what do you think? If you want me closer, I’ll come closer. If you want me farther away, that’s fine too.” Song Wanqing tossed the initiative back to the other party.
Yu Qiuli was also a bit nervous, unsure of what to do. She laughed awkwardly. Everything she said was because Fu Yanxi was acting as her strategist from behind.
“Take the initiative to get a little closer, have some intimate contact.”
Intimate contact? Wasn’t it a bit too early for that?
Though Yu Qiuli was a little confused, she obediently stood up and leaned in. She slapped Song Wanqing on the shoulder and sat a little closer.
Fu Yanxi: “…”
She had meant for her to engage in intimate contact, not slap the other person on the shoulder. Was this about finding a partner or making a sister?
Lin Ruocheng couldn’t hold back her laughter and raised an eyebrow at the other party. Was this their so-called strategist?
Fu Yanxi spread her hands helplessly, she was out of ideas. Who would have thought Yu Qiuli was also a “human-robot”? What kind of human-robot pairing was this?
“Invite her to hang out tonight.”
After receiving the command, Song Wanqing suddenly straightened up. She had no idea why Yu Qiuli had slapped her just now, but the hit wasn’t hard. She recognized the faint scent of perfume on her, it was “Spring Day,” a brand that was a bit pricey but smelled quite pleasant.
“Um… are you busy tonight?”
Yu Qiuli was taken aback. “Yes, I am.”
“Cancel it. Say you’re free.”
Fu Yanxi mentally coached from the side. If you want to date, do you have to be this straightforward? When will you ever manage to get together? In the year of the monkey? Besides, what could be more important than finding a partner?
Given Yu Qiuli’s timid, quail-like personality, if she directly asked whether the other person was free tonight, it must mean she had something in mind, like going out or hanging out together. Only by taking the initiative could a story unfold.
“Oh, um, suddenly I’m free. What’s up?”
Lin Ruocheng was dying of embarrassment. What kind of robotic romance was this? It was all thanks to the strategists’ efforts. If the strategists weren’t pushing them, these two would hardly have any chance of a story.
“Can we take a walk on the field tonight?”
“Sure.”
Lunch was over.
Lin Ruocheng let out a deep sigh. Manipulating human-robots to flirt and date was just too difficult. Having one human-robot best friend in this lifetime was enough, no, more than enough.
She glanced at her phone. There was a new friend request on WeChat, apparently from a dance partner her teacher had recommended earlier. The other person’s profile picture was blank, and their name was just a period. The message they sent even included an apology in advance. She tapped “Accept.”
Song Wanqing walked over. “Orange, let’s go. They’ve already left.”
“Alright, let’s go.”
“If you’re going on a date tonight, I’ll help you.”
“What? We’re already going on a date?”
Song Wanqing’s jaw dropped in shock. Wasn’t this just a walk to digest their food? Wasn’t it moving a bit too fast?
“She didn’t reject you, right? Then it counts as a date. Just treat it as a post-dinner stroll. Don’t overthink it, and don’t be too nervous. Take it slow. Besides, I’m here to help you. It’ll be fine.”
What could she do? She had a best friend like this. Could she just ditch her? It was too late, there was no way to get rid of her now.
Lin Ruocheng had no issues when it came to playing matchmaker.
But she had one fatal flaw.
She was practically a dunce at dancing, her muscles were just too stiff.
Even when she took Song Wanqing to a club, as she put it, it was like zombies throwing a party on the spot.
Being selected for the current sports dance class was entirely accidental.
Very few freshmen had signed up for the sports dance course.
So, they had to recruit seniors like her who hadn’t taken the class before their sophomore year.
She was basically filling a spot. She had originally signed up for the basketball team.
But ended up assigned to dance.
It was utterly exasperating. Still, she couldn’t afford to fail her final exam.
Since she was selected, she’d just have to go with it.
Couldn’t she switch, after all?
Back in her dorm, she spent a long time watching Waltz videos on her phone.
Hmm… it looked a bit difficult.
She couldn’t imagine how she could possibly dance like that.
Especially in her current state, if she tried to dance like that, wouldn’t it just look like a zombie hopping around?
At 2:30 in the afternoon, all the students who had signed up for the Waltz class gathered on the field.
Everyone stood in pairs.
Song Wanqing and Yu Qiuli stood quite far apart, with what felt like a whole galaxy between them.
There was enough space for five or six more people to stand in between.
What was going on?
Did they really dislike each other that much?
Surely not?
Lin Ruocheng also spotted her dance partner.
It was the other side’s strategist, Fu Yanxi.
What was this?
Fate really worked in mysterious ways. They had only met once before.
They had exchanged nods but hadn’t interacted much.
Their only connection seemed to be that their respective best friends had hit it off.
She had changed into a pair of flat sports shoes.
Her partner had also switched to flats.
But her partner’s natural height seemed a bit taller than hers.
She estimated around 178 cm.
It looked like she would definitely be standing on Lin Ruocheng’s left side.
“Everyone, make sure you’ve found your dance partner, right? Move closer together, not too far apart. If you want credits, stand about a meter apart.”
“Don’t stand too far. You can watch the two of us demonstrate first, and then we’ll start teaching you the steps. Pay close attention to our movements.”
At C University, the Waltz and Cha-Cha elective classes were only open to girls.
Mainly because the boys’ muscles were too stiff, and their dancing didn’t look very graceful.
Especially since most of the students choosing these classes were girls.
Girls preferred dancing with unfamiliar girls rather than with boys.
Last year, there was a boy in the Waltz class who practiced alone the entire time.
He spent the whole semester dancing with thin air.
It was truly pitiful.
As the music started, the two female instructors began moving, every step perfectly in sync.
Lin Ruocheng watched carefully. Even though she wasn’t very good at dancing,
she had to give it a try for the sake of her credits.
A hand reached out beside her.
Lin Ruocheng glanced over, it was Fu Yanxi.
Her hand was slender and elegant.
From this angle, the veins on the back of her hand even seemed slightly pronounced.
Honestly, anyone with a hand fetish would be completely captivated.
But Lin Ruocheng didn’t have a hand fetish; she just thought the other’s hand was beautiful.
“Want to give it a try? I can teach you.”
Fu Yanxi looked at her, her hand extended in a gentlemanly manner.
Lin Ruocheng glanced sideways at the two “robots” they were still loading something.
Without thinking too long, she placed her hand in Fu Yanxi’s.
Then, she gestured to the two people beside her, wondering if they could stand as close to each other as she was.
What’s there to be afraid of? Are you even scared of simple contact?
Song Wanqing finally connected to the Wi-Fi and saw their hands tightly clasped together.
She swallowed nervously.
“Um, can we hold hands?”
“Hold hands? Ah, sure.”
Fu Yanxi also raised their tightly clasped hands.
Yu Qiuli came online at the same time.
The moment their fingertips touched, it was indeed nerve-wracking.
Gritting her teeth, she firmly grasped the other’s hand.
