I Heard You Only See Me as a Friend - Chapter 35
When it was time to head back to the dorm after class, Ji Wan found that the radiator had already been repaired.
Happily moving his pillow back to his own bed, Ji Wan smiled at Feng Jin. “This way, you don’t have to suffer by squeezing in with me. You must have slept quite uncomfortably last night.”
Feng Jin kept a cold face and pretended to agree: “…Mhm.”
During the afternoon nap, Ji Wan fell into a deep sleep, but Feng Jin couldn’t fall asleep no matter what.
He wasn’t stupid. Leaving the classroom and that environment, combined with what the female Alpha classmate had said about Bai Jia’s personality, he knew there was a 99% chance that Bai Jia’s target was him.
But so what? That 1% possibility of him seducing Ji Wan was like a drop of ink on a white sheet of paper, glaring and eyesore-inducing.
Ji Wan had said he didn’t like Alphas, but he had never said he didn’t like Omegas.
Any budding sprout of interest had to be strangled in the cradle.
Since second-year students weren’t yet forced to attend evening self-study, and Ji Wan’s daily necessities were running low, he planned to go out after school to buy some new ones.
During a break between classes, Feng Jin tapped Ji Wan. “I have a basketball game tonight. Come watch, and we’ll go to dinner after.”
Ji Wan thought about it and said, “Next time. I need to buy some things today. I’ll definitely come to spectate next time.”
Ji Wan was going alone?
Feng Jin’s brow furrowed. “The game won’t take long. I need to buy stuff too. Wait for me, let’s go together.”
With things phrased that way, Ji Wan nodded and agreed.
Feng Jin’s basketball game was a grade-level match; today they were up against Class 5. Many classmates from their class came over to cheer them on.
The match was held in the gymnasium where the heat was turned up high, so there was no need to worry about the cold. Everyone was in their jerseys, playing until they were drenched in sweat.
Ji Wan bought two bottles of water one for Feng Jin and one for himself.
The situation on the court was tense. Under the siege of several people, Feng Jin managed a successful slam dunk, drawing cheers from all the spectating students.
“That jumping ability, that waist strength… woo woo woo I’m dead. This would definitely make someone feel ‘half-dead’ in bed.”
“Stop being horny. Isn’t that a given? Does it even need to be said?”
“Sigh, suddenly I feel like that ‘sister’ won’t have it easy. Don’t they say the more powerful the Alpha, the longer their knotting time? During that knotting period, I’m afraid one’s belly could be pushed wide.”
“Ewww”
Listening to the bold comments from Omegas of other classes regarding Feng Jin, Ji Wan felt a bit awkward. He wanted to open a bottle of water for a sip.
He also felt that Feng Jin’s physical condition was excellent and would surely make his Omega happy. It was a pity that Feng Jin himself was a thorough “celibacy advocate” who didn’t consider looking for a partner at all, essentially letting those conditions go to waste.
Ji Wan originally had a bottle in each hand. To free up his hands to twist a cap, he needed to set one down. He was about to tuck the bottle intended for Feng Jin under his arm when he heard a voice from beside him.
“That’s inconvenient for you. Let me hold it for a second.”
Ji Wan turned his head and saw Bai Jia standing next to him with a beaming smile. Seeing Ji Wan look over, Bai Jia pointed at the other bottle of water. “I’ll hold it for two minutes. You can take it back after you finish your drink?”
This was a tiny, insignificant favor; refusing would seem a bit ungracious. Bai Jia wasn’t carrying anything else, so he couldn’t secretly swap the bottle.
Before Ji Wan could even speak, Bai Jia pursed his lips. His naturally drooping eyes made him look even more aggrieved as he said weakly, “I don’t know how to integrate into the new class, so I can only start with small things.”
“…Thanks.” Since it had come to this, Ji Wan handed the other bottle to Bai Jia. After taking a sip of his own water, he immediately took the bottle back. The whole process took no more than thirty seconds.
Ji Wan didn’t think anything could be done to the bottle in such a short time, so he continued to watch Feng Jin play with peace of mind.
Bai Jia turned his head and smiled silently.
As a Beta, Ji Wan couldn’t smell it, but that water bottle was stained with his pheromones. When Feng Jin picked up the bottle to drink, his nose would be very close to it, and his pheromones would be smelled.
An ambiguous atmosphere is built up layer by layer like this. Once it accumulates to a certain point, it’s time to lay everything out.
The whistle blew to end the game. Feng Jin made a final three-pointer, bringing victory to the class.
As the crowd cheered, Feng Jin wiped the sweat from his forehead with his wristband, put on his jacket, and walked toward Ji Wan.
Ji Wan handed the unopened bottle of water to Feng Jin. “Here.”
Feng Jin reached out to take it, but stopped halfway. Finally, he extended two fingers, gripping only the cap portion which lacked the Omega’s pheromones and placed the water on the ground.
Feng Jin looked at Ji Wan’s hand, which was tainted with a faint, sweet pheromone scent, and lowered his eyelashes. “Where is your water?”
Unsure of what was happening, Ji Wan lifted the water he had already sipped from. “Right here.”
Without saying much, Feng Jin directly took Ji Wan’s water, opened it, and gulped down half the bottle.
Ji Wan: “???”
Feng Jin didn’t explain. His gaze swept over Bai Jia standing next to Ji Wan, his eyes containing a hidden threat.
Bai Jia looked a bit dazed, as if he couldn’t figure out how things had deviated so far from his imagination, but a stiff smile remained on his face.
This was the first time Feng Jin had so directly drunk Ji Wan’s water. Feng Jin didn’t waste it, finishing the remaining half before throwing the bottle into the trash.
An indirect kiss.
Although that Bai Jia was annoying, he turned out to be slightly useful.
The water Ji Wan had drunk from felt sweeter than usual.
“Let’s go.” Feng Jin pulled Ji Wan by the shoulder, not giving Bai Jia another glance.
Ji Wan sensed something was wrong but didn’t ask further, following Feng Jin out. Only after they left the gym and the crowd did he whisper to Feng Jin, “What was that about?”
“On the bottle he held, the pheromone smell was very strong.” Feng Jin frowned. Taking advantage of the fact that Ji Wan couldn’t smell it, he began to exaggerate the facts, describing that faint trace of pheromone as if it were a fragrance wafting for miles. “If I drank that water, my nose would be filled with his pheromone scent. I couldn’t stand it.”
Ji Wan froze and immediately frowned.
As a Beta, Ji Wan had never been bothered by pheromones. He usually viewed this as an advantage, but at this moment, it seemed to have become a flaw.
“Sorry, I didn’t think of that… I’m usually not very sensitive to pheromone-related things. I’ll try to stay away from him from now on,” Ji Wan said softly.
“Mhm.” Feng Jin was quite satisfied with this result. He said no more and led Ji Wan to the car, heading toward a nearby shopping street.
Ji Wan’s daily supplies were gone, shampoo, body wash, toothpaste, toothbrush, towels, and so on all needed to be replaced.
As Ji Wan picked items from the shelves, Feng Jin, having said he needed to buy things too, pretended to browse the shelves seriously.
…He wanted Ji Wan to smell exactly like him from head to toe, whether that scent was pheromones or body wash.
He wanted to invade all of Ji Wan’s space, wanting everything Ji Wan used to bear his mark.
Once the thought surfaced, it could no longer be suppressed. Feng Jin said with feigned nonchalance, “Just buy a large bottle for us to share. Having too many bottles piled up is annoying to look at.”
Ji Wan thought about it. With several bottles each, the items for three people together were indeed quite a lot. Sometimes after a shower, they wouldn’t arrange them neatly by size, so it would look cluttered. For someone like Feng Jin who liked everything perfectly organized, it was normal that he couldn’t stand it.
“Sure,” Ji Wan agreed. “Which one do you like? You pick first.”
Feng Jin didn’t care what he used, he could even use bar soap so his main consideration was what suited Ji Wan.
The body wash Ji Wan used before was lemon-scented, which smelled refreshing, but Feng Jin felt it didn’t suit Ji Wan at all.
Feng Jin’s gaze settled on a bottle of milk body wash.
Ji Wan’s skin was already as white as milk; that skin, like curdled milk, paired with a milky fragrance, lying in his bed…
Feng Jin hesitated no longer and picked up the milk body wash, holding it in front of Ji Wan. “This one.”
Ji Wan: “…”
Ji Wan looked at the cutely packaged milk body wash, then at the tall and imposing Feng Jin.
Feng Jin surely picked what he liked. He hadn’t expected Feng Jin’s taste to be so… cute.
Recalling the normal, cold, Alpha-style refreshing body washes Feng Jin used before, Ji Wan’s mood became subtle.
Feng Jin… might be using the excuse of buying it together with him to dare suggest this one, hiding his true intentions.
“This one it is, then.” Ji Wan didn’t dislike it either and put the milk body wash into the cart.
Ji Wan walked around and finished buying everything; he even bought a set of “moe” pajamas with Feng Jin.
Ji Wan tried to sneak a glance at Feng Jin, but he ran directly into Feng Jin’s gaze. The two looked at each other and smiled, everything understood without words.
While checking out, Ji Wan thought: As a top-tier Alpha, Feng Jin must live a very repressed life. The daily necessities he wants to use and the clothes he wants to buy, he can’t; everything he uses is the standard, simple, and sharp Alpha style.
Before this, Feng Jin hadn’t even hinted at liking this “cute” style.
Life is really hard for you, Brother Feng.
Behind him, Feng Jin silently gazed at Ji Wan’s back.
He could actually guess Ji Wan’s misunderstanding quite easily.
But it didn’t matter.
Let him misunderstand and indulge him to his heart’s content, until… he had invaded every aspect of Ji Wan’s life.
After shopping, the two went to solve the dinner problem.
The winter weather was cold; fast-food places had relatively fewer people, while hot pot, skewers, and malatang shops were crowded.
Ji Wan didn’t want a big feast, so he and Feng Jin chose a malatang shop. After ordering, they sat and waited for the food.
However, just as their malatang was served, an uninvited guest walked in.
Bai Jia was blowing into his cupped hands. Seeing them, his eyes lit up. “What a coincidence, you guys are here too!”
“I live around here and often come here to eat. I didn’t expect to run into you,” Bai Jia said happily, running off to order.
Perhaps because he was a regular, Bai Jia’s food was served quickly. He returned with his tray, a shy smile on his face. “Can I sit with you? There don’t seem to be any empty seats elsewhere.”
Ji Wan: “…”
Feng Jin: “…”
Feng Jin’s brow pressed down slightly, creating a sense of pressure.
Neither of them spoke for a moment. Bai Jia wasn’t surprised by this, but what did surprise him was the unmistakable wariness and hostility on Feng Jin’s face.
He had indeed heard that Feng Jin was difficult to win over and hated being approached with a motive, but would it actually cause such a violent backlash?
He had never seen an Alpha show such an aggressive expression toward him.
It seemed something was slipping out of control.
Bai Jia decided to try again. He placed his bowl across from Ji Wan and sat down.
“The food here is quite good, especially their homemade beef balls. Did you order them? Let me share a few with you?” Bai Jia said beamingly.
He had already seen that Feng Jin ordered beef balls, but Ji Wan didn’t. He could share a few with Ji Wan and then naturally start a conversation.
However, before Bai Jia could move, he saw Feng Jin take three of the four beef balls from his own bowl and put them directly into Ji Wan’s.
“Why are you giving me so many?” Ji Wan tried to put them back, but Feng Jin refused.
“They’re already in your bowl, don’t give them back to me.” Feng Jin frowned. “I only ordered them because they’re a signature item, but these beef balls aren’t chewy enough. If you won’t eat them either, then throw them away.”
Ji Wan didn’t know if this young master Feng really thought the beef balls weren’t good enough or if he simply wanted to let him eat them.
Normally, he would argue with Feng Jin for a few more sentences, but now that Bai Jia was sitting across from them eyeing Feng Jin like a tiger, Ji Wan silently ate them to prevent Bai Jia from having the chance to offer food and find a topic.
Truth be told, they were actually quite delicious.
The spectating Bai Jia: “…?”
Something seemed wrong.
Something was a bit dazzling.
The three continued to eat. Ji Wan bit into a meat sausage in his bowl and frowned.
He usually liked these, but this shop’s preparation was different from what he usually had. Before, they were always sweet-leaning, but this shop’s version was actually salty.
Ji Wan didn’t like the taste, but adhering to the habit of not wasting food since it was already ordered, he decided to grit his teeth and finish it.
Feng Jin had been watching Ji Wan out of the corner of his eye and quickly noticed his expression. “Is it that bad? If it’s bad, don’t eat it.”
“Can’t waste,” Ji Wan insisted. “Clean plate campaign.”
Feng Jin frowned and reached out with his chopsticks, taking the meat sausage right out of Ji Wan’s bowl.
“Hey…” Ji Wan was stunned.
“Alright, stop dawdling. You helped me solve the beef balls, I’ll help you solve this. No waste for anyone,” Feng Jin said.
Everything sounded so perfectly reasonable, and with an unfamiliar Bai Jia sitting across from them, Ji Wan said nothing more and continued eating.
Bai Jia: “…………”
He was wondering why it was so bright.
It turns out… it was dog food.
