I Heard You Only See Me as a Friend - Chapter 34
Feng Jin didn’t fall asleep until very late.
With the person he desired to possess lying right beside him, it was impossible to say he didn’t have any ulterior motives.
Ji Wan was already sound asleep; no matter what he did, Ji Wan wouldn’t notice.
Evil thoughts grew wantonly in his heart. Under the quilt, Feng Jin silently reached out his hand. It hovered over Ji Wan for a long while, but in the end, he didn’t touch anywhere else. Instead, he gently covered Ji Wan’s hand with his own.
Ji Wan wasn’t as icy as before, but the temperature of his hands was still much lower than Feng Jin’s, not yet fully regulated. Feng Jin warmed Ji Wan’s hand, then let go, forcing himself to close his eyes.
They usually woke up at 6:00 AM. Around 5:30 AM, something rolled into his arms, and Feng Jin woke from his slumber.
Ji Wan had maintained his wall-hugging posture for the entire night, but before waking up, he finally couldn’t hold it anymore. He automatically and spontaneously rolled toward the heat source emitting a cozy warmth.
Likely because the temperature on Feng Jin’s body was just too perfect, Ji Wan lowered his head and burrowed a bit, finding the most comfortable position before reaching out to hug this warm “bolster.”
Feng Jin knew Ji Wan’s habits; having set an alarm for 6:00 AM, Ji Wan would absolutely not open his eyes at 5:59 AM. This was all Ji Wan’s unconscious doing.
Feng Jin didn’t even dare to breathe. His whole body went rigid as he looked down at the face positioned extremely close to his.
Ji Wan’s eyelashes were very long; every single lash seemed to tickle Feng Jin’s heart.
Feng Jin licked his lips and, finally unable to endure it, reached out and hugged the person back.
He desperately wished that time would freeze at this moment, with him and Ji Wan sleeping in each other’s arms.
But something was still missing from Ji Wan’s body. Ji Wan should be covered in his hickeys—from that fair nape of the neck downwards, in places hidden by clothing, there should be those unspeakable marks belonging to him.
And Ji Wan’s body should be radiating his pheromones. Those pheromones wouldn’t dissipate all day; whether it was an Omega or an Alpha, anyone who smelled the scent on Ji Wan would know the relationship between the two of them.
Morning is naturally a time when people are prone to impulse. With such a fantasy, Feng Jin completely lost control over a certain physical reaction.
He forced himself to stay motionless, simply staring quietly at Ji Wan’s face.
Feng Jin didn’t know how long he watched. Perhaps a person’s gaze carries energy, for even though it wasn’t time to get up yet, Ji Wan frowned, his eyelashes trembling slightly as if he were about to wake. Feng Jin promptly withdrew his arms from around Ji Wan and closed his eyes, pretending nothing had happened.
Ji Wan had slept very soundly. When he woke up, he felt as if he were lying in a palace of ultimate bliss, wishing he could lie there forever like a king neglecting his morning court.
It was too comfortable. The quilt was soft, and especially that warm, perfectly tempered heat source in front of him…
Heat source?
Wait, how could there be a heat source here? It turned out that as he slept, he had somehow drifted to the middle and leaned right against Feng Jin!
Ji Wan woke up completely. His arm was draped over Feng Jin’s waist, casually hugging him like a pillow. Because they were so close, he could clearly perceive the rise and fall of Feng Jin’s chest with every breath, as well as a certain natural physiological reaction.
Embarrassment was the “Cambridge” of the morning.
Ji Wan was scared out of his wits. He never imagined he would be so restless in his sleep, to the point of harassing the person sharing his bed.
Looking at Feng Jin’s tightly knitted brows, the fact that he hadn’t kicked Ji Wan out in the middle of the night truly went against an Alpha’s instincts. It was clear Feng Jin really saw him as a friend.
As for the certain physiological reaction that every male has in the morning, Ji Wan was mentally understanding; it wasn’t Feng Jin’s fault.
Ji Wan moved away as quietly as possible. After leaving the heat source, he breathed a sigh of relief and closed his eyes, pretending he was still asleep and had been in this position from start to finish.
This was the first time Ji Wan had encountered such an awkward situation. When the alarm went off, he turned it off and pretended he wanted to sleep for two more minutes, hoping Feng Jin would get up first so he could follow later to avoid the awkwardness.
However, Ji Wan miscalculated. Upon hearing the alarm, Feng Jin didn’t get up immediately. Instead, he turned over irritably on the bed and pulled the quilt over his face, looking as though he hadn’t slept well and wanted to keep sleeping.
In the end, the first one to sit up was Kong Liyan.
Kong Liyan was usually the last of the three to get up. Normally, by the time he rose, Ji Wan and Feng Jin were already brushing their teeth. But today, everything was different.
The dorm was as quiet as the middle of the night. Ji Wan and Feng Jin hadn’t made a sound.
Kong Liyan cleared his throat and shouted, “Wake up! Why am I the first one up today? This isn’t scientific! Wake up, wake up! Wan-wan, get up! You aren’t like Brother Feng who skips class all the time; you can’t be late!”
As he shouted, he turned to look at Ji Wan’s bed. With one look, he was shocked to find that Ji Wan’s bed only had a quilt there was no person.
Kong Liyan was alarmed. He knew Ji Wan always made his bed upon waking up; if the quilt wasn’t folded and the person was gone?
Strange, too strange! There must be something fishy going on!
Countless terrible possibilities flashed through Kong Liyan’s mind, finally settling on one.
Panicking, Kong Liyan cried out, “Brother Feng, wake up! Wan-wan was extorted and kidnapped while we were sleeping! That person must have threatened Wan-wan severely, which is why he didn’t dare call for help and quietly left the dorm! Why are you still sleeping? Get up!”
Kong Liyan turned his gaze to Feng Jin’s bed and felt something was off today. The hairstyle of the back of the head sticking out didn’t look like Feng Jin’s at all. Did Feng Jin go get his hair done overnight?
While Kong Liyan was wondering, another head popped out from under the quilt.
It was Feng Jin’s head.
Feng Jin looked low-pressure, appearing as though he hadn’t slept enough.
Kong Liyan: “…?”
He was hallucinating. Brother Feng was in bed, so who was the other person?
Kong Liyan rubbed his eyes. When he looked again, the other person also sat up from the bed.
It was Ji Wan.
Kong Liyan looked at this in a daze. Finally, he slowly lay back down, covered himself with the quilt, and said happily, “I’m still dreaming. It seems it’s not time for school yet.”
Feng Jin threw a book at him, hitting Kong Liyan’s quilt. “Keep dreaming. If the teacher counts heads and you’re late, I’m not helping you.”
Once all three were up, Feng Jin brushed his teeth inside while Ji Wan and Kong Liyan found their school uniforms outside.
While dressing, Ji Wan explained the general situation to the still-dazed Kong Liyan, concluding, “Feng Jin saw that I was too cold, so he let me squeeze in with him for the night.”
Ji Wan remarked with feeling, “Brother Feng is really good to his brothers and friends.”
Kong Liyan: “…Yes, indeed.”
As he put on his socks, Kong Liyan recalled Ji Wan’s words and frowned slightly.
He had known Feng Jin for over a decade, so he naturally knew Feng Jin was very good to his brothers; otherwise, he and their other childhood friends wouldn’t be so close to him.
If he had been the one saying he was cold last night, he believed Feng Jin would have helped find another quilt. If he were about to freeze to death, Feng Jin would likely even swap quilts and give him the thick one.
But if he had said he didn’t want a quilt but wanted to sleep with Feng Jin to keep warm, Feng Jin would have 100% kicked him off the bed.
Sleeping with Feng Jin was something one shouldn’t even think about. Feng Jin’s sense of territory was so strong that even for a brother, he shouldn’t be able to cross that line.
But why was Feng Jin willing to share a bed with Ji Wan to keep warm?
Thinking about how Feng Jin even let Ji Wan sleep on the inside to prevent him from rolling off, Kong Liyan’s frown deepened.
Strange, it was really too strange.
On the first day of the new semester, instead of morning reading, they went to distribute the books for the term.
Ji Wan and Feng Jin went to help move the books. On the way back, another female Alpha who was helping approached them hesitantly and said, “I don’t know if you’ve heard, but our class is getting an Omega transfer student?”
Ji Wan was slightly surprised and shook his head.
The female Alpha bit her lip and decided not to beat around the bush. She said directly, “I was his classmate in junior high, so I know a bit about him. His pheromones smell very good; many Alphas are at his beck and call because of them. He specifically targets Alphas who are handsome, have good grades, or come from prominent families to gain more benefits. So… Brother Feng, I don’t know if he’s still like that, but be careful.”
“I see,” Feng Jin said, his eyes half-lidded as he looked at the road ahead. “Thanks.”
The female Alpha left, and Ji Wan looked at Feng Jin with concern.
“A tall tree catches the wind.” From every perspective, Feng Jin was a perfect partner it wouldn’t be strange for any Omega to like him.
If it were an excellent Omega, Ji Wan would naturally offer his blessings, but if the other party had ill intentions, he worried Feng Jin might develop feelings due to pheromones and be manipulated.
Sensing his gaze, Feng Jin, who originally had no expression, smiled. He shifted the weight of the books to one hand and reached out with the other to pat the back of Ji Wan’s neck.
“Don’t worry,” Feng Jin’s voice was very soft. “If I like someone, it definitely won’t be because of pheromones.”
Ji Wan nodded and gave his blessing: “In the future, an Omega made for you will surely appear. Don’t worry, take your time finding them.”
This time, Feng Jin didn’t speak.
Once the books were distributed, morning reading ended. The first period was the homeroom teacher’s Chinese class.
Just as the previous student had said, the teacher indeed brought a new student.
“Hello everyone, my name is Bai Jia, and I’m an Omega,” Bai Jia introduced himself with a smile. He had delicate features, and the drooping corners of his eyes carried a sense of weakness and an urgent need for protection, making him look pitiful.
A small commotion broke out among the Alphas in the class as they welcomed the new student with applause.
Because Bai Jia was small, the teacher arranged for him to sit in the front of the classroom, and the lesson began.
For several days in a row, the new transfer, Bai Jia, made no moves, so Ji Wan slightly lowered his guard regarding Feng Jin.
To make time for the senior year review, the second-year second-semester curriculum moved very fast, covering several lessons’ worth of content in one class.
Chinese class was fine; there was no issue of not understanding. But when it came to Math and Physics, many people started to get dizzy.
“After class, review today’s content and preview what we’ll discuss tomorrow. I’ll ask questions before class tomorrow.”
The Physics teacher finished speaking succinctly and clattered away, leaving a room full of wails.
Ji Wan’s front desk neighbor asked him questions with a troubled face. After Ji Wan finished explaining, another physics book was placed on his desk.
Ji Wan looked up and saw the new transfer, Bai Jia.
“Classmate, I heard you’re great at studying. There’s a lot I didn’t understand can I ask you?” Bai Jia smiled shyly.
Ji Wan rarely refused such requests from classmates. Although he wasn’t familiar with Bai Jia, he nodded.
Ji Wan explained in detail, his attention on the book. He didn’t notice Bai Jia’s gaze occasionally drifting toward Feng Jin or his slightly curled lips.
Approaching an Alpha rashly is easy to trigger alertness, but approaching his friend first allows one to slowly close the distance in the dark and pique Feng Jin’s interest.
For example… by leaving his pheromones on Ji Wan’s clothes, when Ji Wan approached Feng Jin again, Feng Jin would smell his pheromones.
Bai Jia lowered his head and pretended to listen, but he was actually peeking at Ji Wan’s profile.
Better looking than me, but a Beta who is insulated from pheromones, so no matter what he looks like, he won’t pose a threat. And he’s good friends with Feng Jin—the perfect stepping stone.
When Ji Wan finished, Bai Jia smiled and thanked him, picking up his book to leave.
Bai Jia took the aisle toward the back, passing right by Feng Jin.
An extremely subtle, sweet pheromone drifted in the air, barely audible, teasing an Alpha’s nerves.
Bai Jia reached the back of the classroom and turned toward his seat, his peripheral vision catching Ji Wan and Feng Jin’s positions.
To his delight, he saw Feng Jin pat Ji Wan’s shoulder, making Ji Wan turn around as the two leaned in together. At this distance, Feng Jin would definitely smell the pheromone scent he had left on Ji Wan.
It seems Feng Jin likes my pheromones.
Bai Jia curled his lips.
Since that was the case, everything would be simple. The pheromone attraction between an Alpha and an Omega has always been so unreasonable.
Because he was far away, Bai Jia didn’t notice the difference between reality and his imagination.
Feng Jin wasn’t admiring the pheromones on Ji Wan. On the contrary, he forcefully used his own pheromones to annihilate the trace of sweet fragrance left on Ji Wan until not a single hint remained.
“I also think the teacher is moving a bit fast,” Feng Jin smiled. “Hearing you say that puts me at ease.”
“Yeah, luckily we previewed it beforehand,” Ji Wan said.
When the bell rang, Ji Wan turned back to class, not noticing Feng Jin’s abnormality.
Feng Jin’s gaze lingered on Ji Wan’s back with a touch of heat. When it turned to Bai Jia on the other side, that heat completely vanished, leaving only coldness.
That Omega was provoking him… brazenly touching his treasure.
The pen nib drew a heavy mark on the paper. Feng Jin lowered his eyes, masking the anger and possessiveness within.
