I Heard I’m a Scummy Alpha? [Transmigration] - Chapter 49.1
Qi Yunwei never thought twice about going out to pick up Yan Zui; she simply did it. To her, nothing about it felt unusual. But to Yan Zui, the feeling was strangely different.
It was as if she was being wrapped in a soft, sweet cloud—one that someone held carefully in the palm of their hand.
It felt like Qi Yunwei was spoiling her.
Qi Yunwei’s progress with her driver’s license was much faster than expected.
After acing the written test with a perfect score, she went straight to practice. The moment she got behind the wheel, she realized driving a car was much easier than piloting an airship. After just one hour, she had already mastered most of the skills for the second stage of the exam.
Watching her parallel park and reverse neatly into a space, the instructor sat in the passenger seat in stunned silence for a long moment before finally asking, “Have you had a license revoked before?”
After all, people who’d had their licenses revoked usually learned quickly because they already knew how to drive.
Calmly maneuvering onto an incline and stopping at the precise spot, Qi Yunwei replied, “Coach, this is my very first time taking the test. In fact, it’s my first time ever touching a steering wheel.” She turned her head with a smug little smile. “Maybe I’m just a genius.”
The instructor: “…”
Annoyed at her smugness, but he had to admit—she might really be a genius.
He had never met a student who could get the hang of driving after being shown only once. A sudden thought crossed his mind: maybe she could even break the record of the fastest license ever issued in their intensive driving course—a record of just one week.
“There’s a slot open for the stage two test at ten o’clock,” he said. “I’ll sign you up. After that, I’ll take you to practice stage three.”
Qi Yunwei agreed without hesitation.
Of course, this meant she wouldn’t be able to bring lunch to Yan Zui for the next few days.
After watching her run through another flawless practice, the instructor sighed that she was skilled enough to be the teacher. He drove her to the testing site, where she was first in line.
“There are two chances. If you fail the first, just return to the start and do it again. No need to be nervous,” he reminded her out of habit.
Joining the other candidates, Qi Yunwei got into the car as the instructions began.
The instructor had thought her driving looked smooth when he was sitting beside her, but watching from the outside now, he was stunned—her driving wasn’t just correct, it was graceful. She made it look like art.
The stage two test ended smoothly. By the time he checked the clock, it was only 10:10. On the way to the stage three practice grounds, he suddenly asked, “Want me to sign you up for the one o’clock test this afternoon?”
Qi Yunwei chuckled. “You’re that confident in me? I haven’t even practiced stage three yet.”
“If you hadn’t told me this was your first time driving, I’d have dragged you straight into the exam.”
He had seen prodigies before—but none like Qi Yunwei.
If the other students ever found out, they’d be dying of envy.
Just as he expected, after one practice run with his instructions, she got the hang of stage three instantly. The way she handled corners and turns made her seem like a seasoned driver with decades of experience.
“At this rate,” the instructor said, “you’ll be done with stage three by one-thirty. If I sign you up for the three o’clock stage four test, do you think you can handle it?”
“Stage four’s harder than stage one—it has multiple-choice questions,” he cautioned.
“No problem,” Qi Yunwei replied confidently. “Just send me the materials.”
At lunch, the instructor insisted on treating her to a meal, saying it was the fastest commission he’d ever earned thanks to her.
That afternoon, she breezed through stage three. Even the usually stoic examiner couldn’t help but praise her, saying she drove like someone with thirty years of experience. The instructor beamed as he escorted her to the stage four testing site.
On the way, Qi Yunwei studied the materials with full concentration, while the instructor bragged in his coaching group chat that he had a student completing her license in a single day.
None of the other coaches believed him.
“Nobody learns to drive in a single day. Come up with a more believable lie next time.”
“Even if she already knew how to drive and memorized the questions, taking the actual exams is nothing like practice. No way she passed in one day.”
Instructor: [smug emoji] “Believe it or not, not only did she pass in one day—it was also her very first time behind the wheel in her life!”
“Middle of the day and already delusional. Ignore him.”
“You better not be drinking. Don’t get behind the wheel if you are.”
The group dismissed him as unreliable and soon moved on to other topics.
Meanwhile, the instructor leaned back with confidence as he waited for her outside the exam hall. Sure enough, less than twenty minutes later, Qi Yunwei walked out looking relaxed.
“You passed?” he asked immediately. He knew the answer, but still found it unbelievable.
“Of course. Full marks,” she said with a smile.
The instructor’s grin nearly split his face. “You’re officially the record-holder for our super-speed program. Licenses processed this way come out in a day. Bring your ID tomorrow morning and pick up your driver’s license.”
Tomorrow, he was definitely dressing sharp and taking a picture with her—just to shut up the doubters.
That evening, when Yan Zui came home from work, Qi Yunwei was already back.
“How’s the practice going?” Yan Zui asked.
“Not bad,” Qi Yunwei answered lightly, suddenly tempted to tease her.
“There’s no rush,” Yan Zui advised. “Better to practice more—it’ll be safer once you’re on the road.”
The next morning, after breakfast, Qi Yunwei said, “I’m heading to the driving school.”
Knowing she had already passed the written exam, Yan Zui assumed she was just going for more practice. “Be careful,” she reminded her.
When Qi Yunwei left, Yan Zui didn’t see any instructor come to pick her up. She frowned slightly, thinking the school’s service was poor—picking up students only once, then abandoning them afterward.
At noon, Secretary Shen entered the CEO’s office. “President Yan, would you like me to bring lunch for you today?” she asked, though inwardly she wondered why Qi Yunwei had suddenly stopped delivering meals since yesterday.
Had she shown her true colors after winning over her father-in-law?
“Yes, thank you,” Yan Zui replied.
Unable to contain her curiosity, Shen asked, “President Yan, where’s Miss Qi today?”
In the past, Yan Zui’s icy demeanor had always made such personal questions unthinkable. But now, for some reason, Shen dared to ask. And she felt certain that if it had to do with Qi Yunwei, Yan Zui would answer.
Secretly, Shen thought to herself: If Qi Yunwei ever wrongs President Yan, I’ll curse her to no end.
“She’s taking her driving test,” Yan Zui said calmly. “The weather’s only getting hotter. Driving will make it easier for her to bring lunch without getting scorched, don’t you think?”
Shen was instantly stuffed full of dog food. “Yes, absolutely. Hot in the summer, cold in the winter—driving is definitely better.”
Oh my god, President Yan must have bought her a luxury car!
Leaving the office, Shen nearly walked straight into Qi Yunwei carrying a lunch box. Shocked, she blurted out, “Miss Qi, didn’t you go to take your driving test?”
Qi Yunwei smiled. “I finished.”
Shen nodded, assuming: She must have only done the stage one test. If she failed, she’d need a retake. Otherwise, she’d still be practicing stage two right now. Stage one is so easy—how could she not pass? I only studied for three hours and I passed.
Secretary Shen couldn’t help worrying: What if President Yan’s child inherits Qi Yunwei’s IQ?
Qi Yunwei noticed that Secretary Shen seemed lost in thought. Without disturbing her, she walked past and headed to the CEO’s office.
Knock, knock, knock. She tapped the door three times.
Hearing the word “Come in,” she pushed the door open.
Yan Zui was fully absorbed in work. Qi Yunwei fought back a laugh as she quietly laid out the meal on the coffee table.
It wasn’t until the familiar aroma of home-cooked food reached her that Yan Zui lifted her head in surprise—only to be even more shocked when she saw Qi Yunwei.
“You? What are you doing here? Weren’t you supposed to be at driving school?” Yan Zui asked, walking over.
Qi Yunwei grinned, proudly flashing her license. “All done! From now on, I’ll drive over every day to bring you lunch.”
Taking the license, Yan Zui examined it carefully. Once she confirmed the information was correct, she looked back at Qi Yunwei, stunned. “You finished in just one day? Passed all four subjects?”
“What can I say?” Qi Yunwei said with exaggerated flair. “The thought of you stuck eating those awful company cafeteria meals while I was learning to drive had me so anxious that I crammed everything into one day.”
The tension in Yan Zui’s expression softened, her eyes carrying a faint smile. “Don’t joke around.”
“I’m not joking,” Qi Yunwei replied earnestly. “That really is how I felt. Of course, feelings alone don’t cut it. The key point is—I’m just that smart.”
Yan Zui felt her cheeks heating up. She quickly turned away, sat down, and muttered, “Let’s eat.”
After lunch, Qi Yunwei carried the empty lunchbox on her way home. Passing by the secretary’s office, she ran into Secretary Shen again.
It almost seemed as if Shen had been waiting for her. The moment she approached, Shen straightened her expression. “Miss Qi.”
Qi Yunwei paused. “Secretary Shen, is something the matter?”
Shen hesitated, but decided it was her duty to speak up. “Miss Qi, President Yan cares a great deal about you taking your driving test.”
Qi Yunwei nodded. “I know.”
No, you don’t know at all.
Realizing that subtle hints would be wasted on Qi Yunwei, Shen spoke plainly: “Miss Qi, President Yan really does like you. Earlier, when I went into her office, I casually asked why you hadn’t come by. She told me you were at driving school, and that once you got your license you could drive over to bring her lunch. Her tone may have sounded calm, but I could tell just how happy she was.”
Qi Yunwei, of course, knew exactly how happy Yan Zui was. What she didn’t understand was why Secretary Shen had suddenly stopped her just to say this. “And so?”
Two little words, and Shen felt her frustration spike. Communicating with Qi Yunwei sometimes felt utterly hopeless.
“So,” Shen pressed on, “you should be at driving school right now, not delivering lunch. I believe what President Yan would truly want is for you to finish your license, then drive her car to bring her meals.”
“But I already finished my license.” Qi Yunwei blinked innocently.
She knew Shen’s words came from genuine concern for Yan Zui, so she didn’t take offense.
“But you haven’t even passed the theory test.”
Qi Yunwei flipped open her license. Shen froze mid-sentence, eyes widening as she stared at it.
“I passed all four subjects in one day,” Qi Yunwei explained cheerfully. “Didn’t tell Yan Zui beforehand because I wanted to surprise her. And she was definitely surprised just now.”
She smiled. “Secretary Shen, you can relax now.”
Shen scrutinized the license and found nothing wrong. Only then did she realize how rude she had been, and her face burned with embarrassment. “I’m so sorry, Miss Qi. What I said just now was out of line.”
