I Got Together With the Fake Heiress - Chapter 63
Wen Yunqing and Lu Zhiming talked casually for half an hour. By the time she returned to the formation, the standing-at-attention exercise had concluded, and it was time for a break.
Unsurprisingly, Wen Yunqing received many glances from the Law Department female company upon her return. The vast majority were envious, and a few were curious.
“What did you go do? They said the supervisor took you away,” Wen Yimeng asked with concern. Had someone found out about their plan to sleep together?
Wen Yunqing looked at the people around them and whispered, “The supervisor is Lu Zhiming. She asked me to discuss something and help her handle a case.”
“What kind of case? Is it one of those special cases?” The worry in Wen Yimeng’s eyes turned into curiosity. In her view, Lu Zhiming would never harm her girlfriend.
Wen Yunqing nodded. “Ninety-nine percent likely. However, we cannot yet determine the suspect, so we need to conduct some more conventional investigations first.”
Wen Yimeng: “If you go investigate a case, what about military training?”
Wen Yunqing smiled. “I’ll use the time in the evening, and I’ll still train with you during the day.”
Wen Yimeng frowned. “If you leave at night, won’t I have to sleep alone?”
Wen Yunqing put her hand on her girlfriend’s shoulder, helping her relax. “Don’t worry, I’ll be back before twelve o’clock. I just won’t participate in the evening activities.”
Before Wen Yimeng could ask what type of case it was, the instructor started blowing the whistle for assembly.
In this way, the company spent the entire afternoon on the single training item of standing at military attention. When the training ended and they lined up for dinner, most people were walking with a limp.
This was because their feet were simply too painful! The shoes were not soft at all! It really hurt!
After having dinner with Wen Yimeng, Wen Yunqing returned to take a shower and change into some of the clothes she had brought, then went to knock on the door of Room 302.
“Come in,” Lu Zhiming said, holding some files. When she saw Wen Yunqing enter, she handed them all directly to her. “Read these first.”
Wen Yunqing surveyed Lu Zhiming’s quarters. The supervisor’s accommodation was the best of everyone’s, essentially set up like a studio apartment.
Relaxed, Wen Yunqing sat on the room’s sofa and quickly skimmed through the files. When she reached Gu Ling’s information, she slowed down.
According to the information, Gu Ling’s job at the barbecue restaurant started as part-time, and she only signed a contract in September, allowing her to earn a salary of about eight thousand yuan per month.
Gu Ling rarely spent money. Her three meals were usually the staff meals provided by the restaurant. She rented a nine-square-meter room, and aside from basic utilities, her personal expenses per month were five hundred yuan. This meant she could save five thousand yuan out of eight thousand.
This level of spending in Jing City could be described as extremely frugal, basically living on a tight budget.
“What about Gu Ling’s money?” Wen Yunqing asked. “She could save five thousand yuan a month, which is nearly sixty thousand yuan over the past year. Why is her current account balance zero?”
Lu Zhiming glanced at the files. “It was found yesterday. Two days before she disappeared, she withdrew the money from the bank and paid a deposit.”
“A deposit?” Wen Yunqing frowned. “A rent deposit?”
Lu Zhiming shook her head. “It was for a small shop front. The monthly rent is eighteen thousand yuan. She paid for three months, and the rest of the money was found in her rented room.”
Wen Yunqing nodded. This Gu Ling was quite ambitious, daring to open her own shop after just one year of work.
“Take a look at this.” Lu Zhiming opened a drawer and pulled out a clear bag, like an evidence bag, handing it to Wen Yunqing. “These are the hairs we found in the rental apartment. Can you use them to track Gu Ling’s whereabouts?”
Wen Yunqing took it and glanced at it. “Is the information on here accurate?”
Lu Zhiming shook her head. “She is an orphan; her birthday was randomly filled in by the orphanage director, so there is quite a discrepancy.”
That meant there was no reliable Eight Characters of Birth (Bāzì). Finding someone based only on these few hairs would be difficult for Wen Yunqing.
Thinking of the combined photo on her phone, Wen Yunqing let out a sigh. Forget it, a little trouble is fine; let’s just consider it payment for taking the picture.
Wen Yunqing stood up, picked up a pen, and quickly wrote a few lines on the back of the file. “These are the things I need. Once they are all gathered, I can start looking for the person.”
“You can really find her?” Lu Zhiming was surprised; she was purely testing Wen Yunqing. “All you have to rely on are these few strands of hair.”
“Yes, I can,” Wen Yunqing flashed a confident smile. “The reason you were willing to recruit me exceptionally wasn’t because of my capabilities?”
Lu Zhiming rubbed her nose, scanning the list. “The Special Affairs Department has all of these items. I’ll make a call, and they should arrive by tomorrow morning.”
Wen Yunqing: “Good. I’ll come find you after breakfast.”
By the time she finished reading all the files, the hour hand was between the number nine and ten. Wen Yunqing’s eyes fixed on the small refrigerator in the room, and she grabbed two bottles of juice from it before leaving.
Wen Yimeng had just finished showering and was taking out the hairdryer to dry her hair.
“Let me do it.” Wen Yunqing casually took the hairdryer and began blow-drying Wen Yimeng’s hair.
The bathroom door opened, and Liang Shiyou walked out with a towel on her head. Seeing Wen Yunqing and Wen Yimeng, her eyes showed envy. It’s great when couples live together; someone even helps blow-dry your hair.
With twelve people in one dorm, it was close to the time for the lights to go out and electricity to be cut off by the time everyone had finished washing up.
This summer was longer than previous years, so the weather was still a bit muggy in September. Fortunately, the instructor was not entirely merciless; there were still two ordinary ceiling fans in the room.
Liang Shiyou slept on the top bunk, which was slightly cooler than the bottom. But listening to the fan whirring and rattling, she still tossed and turned, unable to sleep. Soon, she felt sticky all over.
If I’m this hot sleeping alone, surely Wen Yunqing and Wen Yimeng aren’t sleeping together anymore, right?
With this thought, Liang Shiyou glanced over to the opposite side. Based on the faint light filtering through the frosted glass, Liang Shiyou could roughly make out that two people were sleeping on the top bunk across from her. Perhaps because the space was too small, the two were cuddling.
Wait, cuddling? Won’t that just be adding heat to heat? Will they explode from the heat?
Hoo, so comfortable~
Wen Yimeng held Wen Yunqing with a satisfied look, wishing she could press her whole body against hers.
“Is this difficult to learn?” Wen Yimeng asked in a whisper, her head pressed against Wen Yunqing’s neck.
“You don’t need to learn this. Once your cultivation reaches a certain level, you can control your own body temperature,” Wen Yunqing said with a smile, using her spiritual energy to maintain her body surface temperature at the most comfortable 26 degrees Celsius.
Because this cooling was achieved using spiritual energy, Wen Yimeng felt refreshed while her body was also being nourished by the energy. Before she could ask a few more questions, she comfortably drifted off into a sweet dream.
After a sound night’s sleep, Wen Yimeng reluctantly opened her eyes when the morning wake-up call rang. Her posture hadn’t changed; she was still clinging to Wen Yunqing.
As everyone knows, the bunk beds in the training camp accommodation did not have curtains. So, when Wen Yimeng opened her eyes and sat up, she noticed that many people in the dorm were secretly looking at her.
Thinking about what she did last night, Wen Yimeng quickly realized and felt a little embarrassed. With so many people watching, her cuddling with Wen Yunqing seemed a bit audacious.
After about ten seconds of shyness, Wen Yimeng learned to ignore their scrutinizing gazes. It’s such a hot day! Why should I, not being a big fool, not use a human air conditioner? And this human air conditioner is my girlfriend, no less.
Sleeping while hugging my girlfriend is only natural, right! No matter how they look at us, I will not let go.
Recalling the scene she saw last night, Liang Shiyou intentionally observed them when she got off the bed, seemingly trying to find evidence of sweat from the stuffy heat on Wen Yunqing and Wen Yimeng.
Wen Yimeng had no idea her roommate had so much going on in her mind. She immediately sped up her routine after getting out of bed to wash up, passing by Liang Shiyou directly.
Wait, did I just smell a very pleasant scent, and feel a cool breeze pass by?
No way! It’s such a hot day! Where would a cool breeze come from! The person who just passed by me was Wen Yimeng! Could she have a constitution that is warm in winter and cool in summer? Is that why the two of them were cuddling last night?
Liang Shiyou pondered for a moment, then intentionally stood next to Wen Yimeng while washing up, wanting to experience it up close.
“Liang Shiyou, do you need toothpaste?” Wen Yimeng turned her head and asked.
“Huh?” Liang Shiyou instinctively looked down. She realized she had been overly focused on Wen Yimeng, standing still with an empty cup and toothbrush.
“Ah, yes, I do. Can I borrow yours?” Liang Shiyou offered a smile.
“Sure, here you go.” Wen Yimeng handed over the toothpaste directly.
Liang Shiyou took the toothpaste, and while squeezing it, she casually asked, “The weather hasn’t been very kind lately. It was a bit muggy last night, and I was sweating.”
Wen Yimeng tilted her head. “Really? I didn’t feel anything. I felt quite cool.”
“Cool?” Liang Shiyou looked unconvinced and couldn’t help but ask, “Seriously? You two were sleeping together.”
Wen Yimeng calmly nodded. “Yunqing has a constitution that is warm in winter and cool in summer. Cuddling her is very comfortable.”
“Oh, is that so?” Upon hearing Wen Yimeng’s direct reply, Liang Shiyou didn’t know what else to say and could only awkwardly reply, “That’s great. Warm in winter, cool in summer—no need for air conditioning.”
Wen Yimeng smiled, didn’t continue the conversation, and went back to washing her face with cleanser.
The morning exercises during military training were simple: boys ran three laps around the field, girls ran two laps. After running back, they did squats, twenty per set, for a total of five sets.
After finishing breakfast and resuming training, some people in the company noticed that Wen Yunqing was missing again and raised their hands in dissatisfaction.
“Report, Instructor! Why does Wen Yunqing from Law Class 1 get special treatment!” The female student who spoke was standing in the middle of the first row. She was not tall but had delicate features, suggesting she came from a wealthy upbringing.
