I Got Together With the Fake Heiress - Chapter 62
Liang Shiyou seriously searched on the forum, then shook her head. “No one knows that. Wen Yunqing, do you think our training venue might not be on campus?”
Wen Yunqing nodded. “If there really are firearms courses and live-fire shooting, the training ground definitely won’t be on campus, as the risk is too great.”
“Then where will we go? Could it be some kind of special training base?” While Liang Shiyou was excited, she was also worried. If they really were taken to a training base, she would most likely be subject to strict military-style management!
Wen Yunqing didn’t say anything, but she basically agreed with Liang Shiyou’s guess. If the school didn’t disclose the training location, it was likely aiming for a surprise attack to catch the students off guard.
As it turned out, Wen Yunqing’s guess was correct. After finishing breakfast and lining up, the newly arrived instructor picked up a stopwatch and directly announced, “From now, each of you has twenty minutes to return to your dorm and gather your necessities. Over the next three weeks, you will be heading to a special location for twenty-one days of military training!”
After the instructor finished speaking, he paid no mind to the students’ reactions below, directly pressing the timer. “Attention all! Dismissed! Timing starts now!”
Twenty minutes might seem like a long time, but Jing University covers a large area. The distance between the assembly point and the dorms was considerable. Walking briskly, a round trip would take about ten minutes.
This meant that the students had at most ten minutes left to pack their things. If they walked any slower, the time for packing would be even less.
Wen Yunqing had shared her guess the night before. Based on the principle of “better safe than sorry,” the residents of Dorm 521 had made some preparations, so the four of them appeared exceptionally relaxed amid the frantic crowd.
The twenty minutes quickly passed. Leaving other classes aside, in Wen Yunqing’s Law Department women’s formation, ten people were late by anywhere from one to three minutes.
The instructor was completely uncompromising; every five seconds of tardiness earned a squat. After making these female students complete their squats under pressure, he finally let them board the large bus, which took them all straight to the training camp.
Before entering the training camp, everyone’s luggage was thoroughly inspected. Besides essential daily necessities and clothing, all cosmetics, dolls, and snacks were confiscated.
Out of consideration for the female students, they were allowed to bring facial cleansers and sunscreen. The instructor didn’t confiscate mobile phones, probably because he was confident that students trained all day would be too exhausted to even lift their arms, let alone use their phones.
Fortunately, the dorm arrangements remained largely the same, only changing from four-person rooms to twelve-person rooms. The instructor did not interfere with the bed assignments, so Wen Yunqing and Wen Yimeng naturally chose the bunk beds.
The beds were about 1.2 meters wide. One person could sleep comfortably, two people would be a bit tight, but still manageable. For example, Wen Yimeng and Wen Yunqing decided to sleep together on the top bunk.
The instructor gave the students half a day to rest. The assembly time was at 2:00 PM, precisely when the sun was at its hottest, and he led them to begin standing at military attention.
“Fourth column leader, straighten up!”
“Third column, fifth person from the left! Stop looking around!”
“Stand firm! Don’t fidget! You must report before wiping sweat!”
The sun was scorching. The students were mostly wearing short sleeves. After standing for less than ten minutes, the sweat beading on their foreheads had already soaked their hair, and their short-sleeved shirts were practically sticking to their skin in the breeze.
Fortunately, Wen Yimeng’s body had been nourished by spiritual energy, so standing at attention here did not feel exhausting. As for Wen Yunqing, it went without saying; just standing still was effortless for her.
Another five minutes passed, and people in the formation began to sway. The instructor checked the time, gave the command for a three-minute rest in place, and then brought over a large bucket of water. Those who were thirsty could simply use the ladle to pour water directly into their mouths.
After three minutes, the dull, tedious standing at attention resumed. The instructor constantly walked back and forth, adjusting everyone’s caps and correcting their postures.
“Report, Instructor! I feel dizzy,” a female student quickly reported, unable to hold on any longer.
The instructor was unsympathetic. He walked over, glanced at the student, and immediately rejected her request. “Keep standing. If you pass out, you will be taken to the infirmary.”
The student pursed her lips. Hearing this, she didn’t argue but continued to stand firm. Three minutes later, she fell straight backward.
Wen Yunqing was positioned diagonally behind the student. Seeing this, she immediately reached out and caught the person, preventing the tragedy of her hitting her head on the ground.
“Report, Instructor! She has fainted,” Wen Yunqing’s voice was loud. The student hadn’t exactly lost consciousness but was genuinely exhausted and couldn’t gather any strength.
The instructor frowned and walked over. He first touched the student’s forehead, then pressed on her neck, estimating her heart rate. “You take her to that shaded area to rest for five minutes, then return to the formation.”
When they heard Wen Yunqing was allowed to rest with the student for five minutes, most people showed looks of envy.
Wen Yunqing hesitated slightly. She wanted to yield this opportunity to Wen Yimeng, but considering it was military training, she thought that if she mentioned it, it might backfire and lead to both of them being punished, so she kept silent.
Moving to the shaded area greatly improved the visibility. Wen Yunqing quickly noticed a person wearing an instructor’s training uniform. She was walking slowly around the field, seemingly a special supervisor.
Wen Yunqing quickly made eye contact with the supervisor. The supervisor raised her hand when she saw Wen Yunqing, then lowered it, and simply changed direction, walking toward her.
“Students, what are you doing here? Why aren’t you training?” Lu Zhiming, the Supervisor, asked, pretending to be formal.
“Reporting, Instructor! My classmate is physically exhausted. I am accompanying her to rest here for five minutes, then we will return to the formation,” Wen Yunqing cooperated.
“I see. I am one of the supervision officers for this military training. You, student, come with me, I need your help with something,” Lu Zhiming said, giving Wen Yunqing a meaningful look.
Wen Yunqing stood up and followed Lu Zhiming to a secluded spot.
“Don’t tell me we’re doing military training here because there’s a problem with this location,” Wen Yunqing opened the conversation before Lu Zhiming could say anything.
Lu Zhiming shrugged. “Military training here is purely the school’s decision. I received the news around the same time you did.”
“Then why are you looking for me?” Wen Yunqing asked.
Lu Zhiming first sighed, looking somewhat wistfully at the formation in the distance. “If it weren’t for this military training arrangement, I was planning to ask you to go investigate a missing persons case with me.”
Wen Yunqing: “We’re investigating? Is this missing persons case very unusual?”
Lu Zhiming nodded. “This case currently involves five people. They are all female, and their birthdays fall on times when the yin energy is strong. They are not local residents of Jing City, but they all disappeared in Jing City.”
Wen Yunqing raised an eyebrow. “You suspect a practitioner is behind this?”
“It’s not a suspicion; it’s practically confirmed,” Lu Zhiming said. “The person behind this can be said to be deliberately operating in Jing City, which, to some extent, is a provocation to the Special Affairs Department.”
Wen Yunqing asked, “Since they are provoking you, why doesn’t your Special Affairs Department quickly send powerful people to deal with him?”
Lu Zhiming adjusted the brim of her cap, sounding a bit helpless. “It’s because we are short on manpower. The higher-ups feel that the perpetrator shouldn’t be very powerful, so they assigned the task to me and asked you to assist in completing it together.”
“Also, you are now a member of the Special Affairs Department, so he is provoking us,” Lu Zhiming emphasized.
After Lu Zhiming briefly described the details of the missing persons case, a somewhat familiar name caught Wen Yunqing’s attention. “You said these people were all non-locals with no family or friends here?”
Lu Zhiming nodded. “All five people have been in Jing City for over a year. They have low incomes and no relatives locally.”
“Including that Gu Ling you just mentioned?” Wen Yunqing pressed.
Lu Zhiming recalled the files she had seen. “Yes, Gu Ling is an orphan. She didn’t finish high school and came to Jing City in June last year. She disappeared half a month ago and is the latest person to go missing.”
“I ran into a student a few days before school started who was looking for Gu Ling,” Wen Yunqing said. “She is a student in the science and engineering department, in her second year, named Ning Qiu, I believe.”
Lu Zhiming was somewhat surprised. She pulled out her phone and noted down the name and school Wen Yunqing mentioned. “The police didn’t notice this during their investigation. I’ll check her information in the system later.”
Putting her phone away, Lu Zhiming said, “I am in the Instructor Dormitory, Room 302. Come over tonight, and I will show you the detailed files.”
Wen Yunqing: “Are there no training activities tonight?”
“It’s watching patriotic films. I’ll notify your instructor, so you can just come straight over,” Lu Zhiming thought for a moment and added, “If you want to bring Wen Yimeng, you can, but remember to have her keep the content confidential.”
Lu Zhiming was aware of how affectionate Wen Yunqing and Wen Yimeng were with each other. When young people fall in love, it’s different; being separated for a few days feels like months.
Wen Yunqing was tempted after hearing this, but then she shook her head. “Forget it. Watching a film isn’t tiring, so let Yimeng rest. The two of us can investigate the missing persons case.”
Military training is nothing more than being a bit tough and tiring, which is a good opportunity for Wen Yimeng to exercise.
But the missing persons case is different. Since the person behind it dared to deliberately provoke the department, they must have some ability. Taking Wen Yimeng along might put her in danger.
