I Got Together With the Fake Heiress - Chapter 61
After realizing a new roommate had arrived, Wen Yunqing calmly let go of Wen Yimeng and greeted her with a friendly smile, “Hello, I am Wen Yunqing.”
“I’m Wen Yimeng,” Wen Yimeng immediately followed up with an introduction. She was slightly embarrassed because her face wasn’t quite as thick-skinned yet.
“H-h-hello, I am Liang Shiyou, majoring in law,” their new roommate, Liang Shiyou, greeted them haltingly, unable to resist taking a long look at her two roommates.
“Hello to you both, classmates! I am Youyou’s mother. I hope you will take good care of our Youyou from now on,” Liang Shiyou’s mother walked in carrying a large suitcase, her attitude very friendly.
“Hello, Auntie,” Wen Yimeng said with a smile. “We are roommates, so we will definitely get along well.”
“That’s good,” Mrs. Liang replied with a smile. Then, she pulled out two bags of dried meat from somewhere. “I made these at home in my spare time; please try some.”
Mrs. Liang acted quickly. Before the two could refuse, she slipped one bag to each of them, and then placed another bag on the empty bed.
Liang Shiyou had chosen the bed near the balcony on the left side, which was opposite Wen Yimeng’s. Mrs. Liang very quickly helped her daughter clean the spot and then made the bed.
Seeing that everything was almost taken care of, she quietly gave Liang Shiyou many last-minute instructions before reluctantly leaving.
After the three roommates in the dorm had exchanged WeChat contact information, the last member of Dorm 521 finally arrived.
The fourth student came up alone. She was about the same height as Wen Yimeng, looked a bit thin, and had short hair that reached her ears. In one hand, she carried a somewhat worn, large suitcase, and over her shoulder, she was carrying an old sack.
“Hello, I’m Zhang Pan, also in the law department.” The fourth roommate gave a simple greeting, exchanged names, and then said no more. She started independently unpacking her belongings, appearing somewhat solitary.
Wen Yimeng glanced at Zhang Pan, then raised her left wrist to check the time. She waited patiently until Zhang Pan had almost finished organizing her space before speaking.
“It’s already twelve o’clock. Why don’t we go have a meal together?” Wen Yimeng said, turning her attention to Zhang Pan. “I specifically looked online before I came. They say the food in our university’s Third Canteen is excellent, affordable, and tastes especially good.”
“Great, I’m hungry too,” Liang Shiyou said cooperatively.
Zhang Pan didn’t object, softly humming an “Mm” to indicate her agreement.
The food at the Third Canteen was indeed as reviewed online: high quality and inexpensive. Wen Yimeng couldn’t quite hold back and ordered five dishes herself. She only managed to get them successfully to her seat with Wen Yunqing’s help.
Eating together is very conducive to bonding, especially when chatting while eating, and the four quickly gained a better understanding of each other.
“You’re both named Wen—are you relatives?” Liang Shiyou asked. She still remembered the scene she witnessed when she first opened the door—they were hugging.
Wen Yimeng paused to think. Her relationship with Wen Yunqing was quite complex; they had no blood relation, but their mothers and fathers were the same people.
“Yunqing, you tell them.” Since she didn’t know how to phrase it, she passed the question on to someone else.
Wen Yunqing put down her chopsticks, cleared her throat, and said very formally, “We are, well, good sisters who share different fathers and mothers, and currently, we are also in a romantic relationship.”
“Ah?” Liang Shiyou was so shocked that she froze in place. As for the other roommate, Zhang Pan, she only paused her chewing motion for less than three seconds before resuming, looking much calmer.
“If you mind our relationship, there might still be time to switch dorms?” Wen Yunqing asked.
Liang Shiyou vigorously shook her head. “No, no, that’s not what I meant! I was just purely surprised, just surprised, that’s all.”
Oh my goodness! So her college life truly started out this exciting? But then again, both of her roommates were very pleasing to the eye. If they weren’t pairing up internally, surely a large number of male students would be pursuing them.
Rather than watching two beautiful cabbages get spoiled by pigs from outside, it was better to watch the two cabbages love each other—it was certainly much easier on the eyes!
“Student Zhang, do you mind the relationship between Yimeng and me?” Wen Yunqing proactively inquired.
Zhang Pan looked up, a hint of surprise in her eyes, seemingly puzzled that Wen Yunqing would ask for her opinion. “The relationship between the two of you is your private matter. I have no right to interfere or any standing to comment.”
“If you are asking for my personal opinion, I don’t think there is anything wrong with it. If you love each other, just be together—it’s very normal.” Zhang Pan’s answer was spoken without much deliberation, simply stating her true thoughts.
Wen Yunqing nodded with satisfaction. “That’s what I think too. It looks like we will be able to get along very well over the next few years.”
After lunch, the four of them went to the supermarket together, planning to purchase some daily necessities.
Wen Yunqing pushed a shopping cart and walked behind Wen Yimeng, slowly browsing the items on the shelves. They mostly bought snacks and some stationery.
After strolling down two aisles, Wen Yunqing spotted Zhou Jun also shopping. She raised her hand and waved to greet him.
Zhou Jun, seeing this, happily walked over and took the opportunity to say hello to Liang Shiyou and Zhang Pan, exchanging names.
“Why are you shopping alone?” Wen Yunqing asked.
“I was assigned to a six-person, mixed-major dorm, and I’m the only physics major. So, I just decided to go alone,” Zhou Jun explained, a smile irrepressible at the corner of his mouth.
Wen Yimeng found it a little strange why Zhou Jun was so happy. “Won’t that be a bit lonely? You’ll have to attend classes alone and everything.”
Zhou Jun cleared his throat. “Indeed, it would have been quite lonely if I hadn’t run into Teacher Lu.”
“Indeed lonel… What? Teacher Lu?” Wen Yimeng blinked. “Has Teacher Lu also come to Jing University?”
“Yes, Teacher Lu said she has a research topic that she needs to study with her former supervisor, so she will be staying at Jing University for a while,” Zhou Jun said. “Her supervisor is also one of our lecture instructors, and she will be taking on the role of teaching assistant on the side.”
Wen Yimeng nodded. “That’s great. You two can discuss physics together.”
Wen Yunqing raised an eyebrow. An individual like Lu Zhiming has official duties. Being able to research a topic at Jing University probably wasn’t entirely her own idea. Could something be about to happen at Jing University?
Out of concern for her and Wen Yimeng’s safety, Wen Yunqing called Lu Zhiming after leaving the supermarket to ask about the situation.
“Yes and no, I suppose. Half the reason is because of you,” Lu Zhiming was not surprised to receive the call. “Since you are staying in Jing City, the higher-ups want me to keep an eye on you and, incidentally, guide you through some missions.”
“And the other half of the reason?” Wen Yunqing asked.
“The other half is for convenience. Jing University’s geographical location is quite central, and having a position makes some matters easier to handle. Don’t worry, there probably won’t be anything going on inside Jing University; after all, it’s suppressed by such heavy good fortune,” Lu Zhiming did not elaborate, as the other half involved matters arranged by the government that she couldn’t disclose.
Hearing the second half of the sentence, Wen Yunqing felt relieved. “I understand. Let me know in advance if there’s work, so I can arrange my time.”
“Mm, it’s usually on weekends,” Lu Zhiming said, stretching. She glanced at the files related to the missing person case on the desk. “Do you want to bring your girlfriend along?”
Wen Yunqing: “It depends on the situation. If it’s a dangerous mission, I’ll go alone.”
Lu Zhiming flipped through the files sent by the police. “Understood. I will help you file the application.”
Wen Yunqing: “Thank you.”
On the first day of enrollment, Wen Yunqing first met with her classmates and teachers to get a general overview.
By the time they finished the first lecture organized by the Law School, it was already close to nine o’clock. After returning to the dorm and washing up, the day was pretty much over.
Jing University allowed students one day for course selection, and the class schedules were quickly determined afterward. However, before formal classes began, the university announced that a three-week, or twenty-one-day, military training period would be conducted first.
“Ahhh, what’s going on? I remember in previous years, military training always started after the first year was over!” This news came somewhat suddenly, plunging the unprepared Liang Shiyou into a state of anxiety.
“For military training, will they require us to cut our hair short?” Liang Shiyou worriedly asked, unable to help but look at Wen Yimeng’s long, slightly curly hair.
Wen Yimeng subconsciously touched her own hair. “Probably not, right? We aren’t minors anymore.”
“The class group has sent a notice. It’s our turn to go collect our uniforms,” Zhang Pan said, holding an old second-hand cell phone.
“Let’s go, we should go get the uniforms first. Military training is unavoidable sooner or later, and September is much more comfortable than July,” Wen Yimeng quickly accepted the reality, pulling Wen Yunqing’s hand and walking out of the dorm.
Liang Shiyou followed somewhat dejectedly. Zhang Pan was the last to leave; she closed the door and locked it as well.
“You take the L, the remaining three take M,” the teacher distributing the uniforms said, handing each of them a numbered tag. “Report your shoe size and pick up your shoes.”
The military training uniform was a set of three pieces, with two complete sets of standard camouflage fatigues. Wen Yimeng felt the T-shirt worn underneath and found that the quality of the clothing was better than she had imagined.
“Why do I feel like the school planned this? If it were a last-minute change, how could they have so many good-quality uniforms?” Wen Yimeng whispered.
Liang Shiyou scrolled through her phone. “I just checked the school forum. The change in the military training time seems to be related to a notice in July. The Ministry of Education called on major universities to increase patriotic education. The Jing University leadership probably decided to use military training as a performance indicator.”
Liang Shiyou shared the news she saw on the forum with her roommates as she walked, and then couldn’t help but utter a common Chinese colloquialism.
“Holy cow! The instructors coming to train us this time are from the Special Forces Reserve Camp! And there’s live-fire shooting practice with actual weapons in the last week?” Liang Shiyou grew more and more excited. “Oh my god, that’s so cool!”
“Wait, live-fire shooting?” Wen Yunqing raised an eyebrow, a premonition of trouble welling up in her mind. “Are you sure this training will take place on campus?”
