I Got Together With the Fake Heiress - Chapter 17
The lecture they received upon returning was unavoidable, and Wen Yunqing stuck to the same story she gave at the police station, taking all the blame onto herself. Wen Yimeng remained silent, but the look she gave Wen Yunqing clearly changed.
“Why did you take all the responsibility?” Once they reached the third floor, Wen Yimeng couldn’t help but ask.
Wen Yunqing paused; she really didn’t want to deceive Wen Yimeng. “Actually, it can’t really be called taking all the blame. I truly felt something was off at the time, which is why I deliberately took a detour before getting into the car.”
Wen Yimeng was slightly surprised. “Did you discover something?”
“Just some feelings,” Wen Yunqing said, extending her hand and pulling Wen Yimeng into her embrace. “I’ll tell you secretly, but don’t tell anyone else.”
“What is it?” Wen Yimeng subconsciously tensed up, ignoring Wen Yunqing’s action.
“Actually, I was quite awake after getting into the car,” Wen Yunqing said mysteriously. “When the car stopped, I immediately took out their boss, and then I even hypnotized the remaining few to call the police and surrender.”
“Really?” Wen Yimeng asked, half-believing and half-doubting. Was Wen Yunqing really that awesome? How did she manage to do that? Just say she ‘took out’ the person, and she did?
“Fake. I just wanted to take the opportunity to get close to you,” Wen Yunqing instantly changed her tone. While Wen Yimeng was still in her arms, she couldn’t resist kissing her earlobe.
Wen Yimeng’s expression changed, and she immediately pushed Wen Yunqing away. “Pervert!”
“I just touched your ear; does that count as being a pervert?” Wen Yunqing looked at her innocently. “I didn’t grab your waist and pin you against the wall to kiss you.”
“…” Wen Yimeng felt her breathing become slightly labored. Which part of her brain had gone wrong? How could she have actually sincerely believed what she just said?
“Alright, it’s getting late; time for bed,” Wen Yunqing said cheerfully. “If my darling Yimeng is too scared to sleep alone tonight, I can make a sacrifice and sleep with you.”
Wen Yimeng took a deep breath, slowly exhaled, and then bit out one word through clenched teeth.
“Scram!”
Because of Wen Yunqing’s “bizarre” statement, Wen Yimeng didn’t overthink things that night. After showering, she lay in bed and fell asleep quickly.
After the sports meet concluded, the midterm exams arrived as Wen Yunqing had anticipated. Due to being a transfer student, Wen Yunqing’s seat was arranged in the last spot of the final examination room, sitting with the twenty-nine students who had the lowest scores.
“Zhang Yao?” As soon as she walked through the door, Wen Yunqing spotted an acquaintance in the very first seat and casually greeted him. “Long time no see.”
Although Wen Yunqing’s skin had turned fairer and her hair had grown out a bit, Zhang Yao recognized her immediately. A somewhat guilty smile appeared at the corner of his mouth. “It’s Classmate Wen, long time no see.”
Wen Yunqing glanced at Zhang Yao one more time, then went to her seat to wait for the exam.
The first subject was Chinese Language and Literature. As someone who had read many ancient texts, Wen Yunqing’s literary foundation was quite good. Apart from the modern reading comprehension questions that felt a bit strange to her, her answering process was very smooth. After writing a flowing, 800-character essay, Wen Yunqing raised her hand to signal, handing in her paper early and leaving.
“Teacher, I’m submitting my paper too,” Zhang Yao raised his hand immediately after seeing Wen Yunqing leave.
The proctor walked over and frowned reflexively upon seeing Zhang Yao’s paper. “Classmate, your essay is not finished. Are you sure you want to submit?”
“I said I’m submitting, so what’s with all the nonsense!” Zhang Yao said impatiently, shoving the paper into the teacher’s hand, grabbing two pens, and immediately getting up to leave. The proctor could only manage a strained smile and let the students in the classroom continue answering.
Wen Yunqing had finished an hour early. At this time, there weren’t many people in the school. After walking toward the supermarket for a distance, she noticed someone following her, and it wasn’t just one or two people. Since she had time to spare, Wen Yunqing took a deliberate turn, walking toward a more secluded area.
“The opportunity is here. You guys go up in a moment,” Zhang Yao said in a low voice. “After it’s done, two thousand yuan per person. If any of you get caught, don’t implicate me, understand?”
“We take money to do jobs; we understand the rules,” the leader was a burly man with a tattoo on his neck, his expression ferocious. Zhang Yao nodded, thinking that since he had called eight people this time, he couldn’t help but add one more thing: “Don’t hit too hard, don’t cause any fatalities.” He had investigated; this Wen Yunqing had been very close to Wen Yimeng recently, so she probably held some weight in the Wen family. If Wen Yunqing were seriously injured, he might get implicated too.
The Tattooed Man nodded. Seeing Wen Yunqing about to reach the end of the path, he immediately signaled his seven brothers, and they surrounded her.
“What do you people want?” Wen Yunqing turned around, her eyes scrutinizing them.
“We take money to do jobs. If you cooperate, we won’t do anything to you,” the Tattooed Man said, and the eight men directly surrounded Wen Yunqing.
Wen Yunqing sighed. She hadn’t done anything, so why was so much trouble coming her way? “How much did the other party offer? I’ll give you double.”
Hearing Wen Yunqing’s offer, the Tattooed Man’s expression shifted slightly. He exchanged a look with his subordinate.
“Five times. Tell me who your employer is.” Seeing the hesitation in their eyes, Wen Yunqing raised the stakes at once. The current situation was different from last time; she wanted to maintain the image of a good student at school.
“We have professional ethics; we cannot reveal information about the employer,” the Tattooed Man said, his expression fluctuating significantly. After hesitating for a moment, he continued, “The other party offered us two thousand each. There are eight of us.”
“I will give you one hundred thousand. You don’t have to tell me who the employer is; just beat the other party up instead.” Wen Yunqing stated. “I trust your professional ethics; I can give you fifty thousand upfront.”
“Deal. No need for upfront payment; we always take the money after the job is done!” the Tattooed Man agreed readily. People in their line of work only cared about money; this offer was already many times higher than what the original employer offered, so of course, they were tempted!
Zhang Yao, cautious not to expose himself, could only hide far away and watch. Seeing the Tattooed Man and his group only surrounding Wen Yunqing without making a move, he couldn’t help but get anxious. What were these guys doing? Didn’t they agree on the price? Why weren’t they starting? Did they feel reluctant to hit a woman?
Before Zhang Yao could figure it out, he saw the Tattooed Man returning with his men, looking at him with ill intentions.
“What are you doing? Why didn’t you attack? Why are you coming back!” Zhang Yao panicked. What were these guys doing? “Do you still want the money!”
“Sorry, we are canceling your job,” the Tattooed Man said, then stepped forward and landed a punch directly on Zhang Yao’s face.
Zhang Yao had no idea that their target had switched to him, so he took the punch without any defense. “Damn it, what’s wrong with you guys? I hired you to beat someone else, not me!”
“We’re beating you!” The Tattooed Man signaled his companions. The eight men surrounded Zhang Yao, and each one landed a few hits on him. Soon, Zhang Yao was lying on the ground, crying out in pain. Of course, the strikes were not too heavy; they knew that students at this school all had backgrounds, so they were merely teaching him a lesson, after which they took several pictures of him clicking their fingers (kāchā kāchā sound effect) before leaving.
“Isn’t this Classmate Zhang Yao?” After the group left, Wen Yunqing strolled casually up to Zhang Yao. “Why is your lip bleeding? Did you fall down?”
Seeing Wen Yunqing appear, Zhang Yao had basically guessed the truth—Wen Yunqing must have said something to those men, causing them to turn on him.
“Yes, I slipped just now, so I fell,” Zhang Yao’s smile was very forced. He dared not confront Wen Yunqing directly and could only swallow this hidden loss.
“I just lost a little money. Do you think I should go find the culprit to settle the score?” Wen Yunqing showed Zhang Yao a “friendly” smile. “Or perhaps the friendly and united Classmate Zhang Yao is willing to give me some money to comfort me?”
“…” What could Zhang Yao say? He could only tearfully hand over one hundred thousand yuan, indirectly paying to be beaten up by himself.
“Zhang Yao, three strikes and you’re out,” after receiving the money via WeChat transfer, Wen Yunqing looked at Zhang Yao and said with a cold smile. “Next time, you won’t just lose money. I hope you keep this sentence firmly in mind.” Although Wen Yunqing said this with a smile, the moment Zhang Yao met her gaze, his heart jumped fiercely. If it wasn’t money, did she want his life? Thinking this, Zhang Yao immediately nodded like a chick pecking grain. “No more, no more, there definitely won’t be a third time!”
Wen Yunqing didn’t say anything more. She gave him a meaningful look before leaving. She had important matters to attend to; soon, her darling Yimeng would finish her exams, and she needed to secure a good spot in the cafeteria to order food in advance.
The exam spanned two days. Having been intensely tutored, Wen Yunqing didn’t find it difficult. Every time she finished an answer sheet, she confidently submitted it, absolutely refusing to look at it again. As for Zhang Yao, having been taught a lesson once, he became extremely obedient, staying until the end of every exam. Upon seeing Wen Yunqing, he automatically moved three meters away, striving to minimize his presence in front of her.
“Yunqing, how did you feel about this exam? Did you find anything particularly difficult?” As soon as the exam ended, Zhou Jun brought out her little notebook to inquire about Wen Yunqing’s experience.
“Everything was fine. I don’t think it was very hard,” Wen Yunqing replied confidently.
“Really?” Wen Yimeng didn’t quite believe it. Since the sports meet, Wen Yunqing had always had a thousand reasons to avoid tutoring. Could she still score well under those circumstances?
“Naturally. I actually have a talent for studying too,” Wen Yunqing said with a smile. Since she recovered her spiritual power, she could achieve photographic memory. Under this premise, how could she possibly not get good grades!
