I Got Together With the Fake Heiress - Chapter 16
“The farthest place, what place is that?” Wen Yunqing’s voice interrupted the conversation between the Scarred Man and the driver.
After ensuring Wen Yimeng was resting comfortably against the seat, Wen Yunqing emerged from the car unhurriedly. She then gently closed the door, smiled at the few people present, and said, “Would you mind telling me?”
Seeing Wen Yunqing step out, the Scarred Man instinctively stepped back and reached toward the small of his back. Does he have a gun there? Wen Yunqing didn’t say a single unnecessary word; she channeled ten parts of her strength, forming a fist and aiming directly for the Scarred Man’s throat.
“Mmm—” The Scarred Man had not expected Wen Yunqing to be so bold. Struck without any defense, his face flushed bright red. He couldn’t reach for his gun and instead clutched his throat, gasping hoarsely.
Wen Yunqing had definitely held nothing back; she was certain the Scarred Man’s Adam’s apple was shattered, and he would likely stop breathing after a few more struggles.
“Big Brother! Big Brother, how are you!” The driver rushed over to check the situation. “What are the three of you standing around for! Grab your weapons and take this person down!”
The other three lackeys immediately picked up the large machetes set aside, shouted, and charged directly toward Wen Yunqing.
Wen Yunqing frowned slightly. She currently lacked a suitable weapon, and she wasn’t entirely confident she could handle three people at once—that is, without using her spiritual energy. Just as a machete was about to fall on her head, Wen Yunqing instantly condensed a shield in her palm, blocking their attack remotely and reflecting the force back.
“Damn it, what is this thing? Why can’t I cut through!” The fierce expressions on the faces of the three lackeys froze instantly, replaced by panic as they seemed to realize something.
“Second Brother, is the person across from us even human?” The youngest among them couldn’t help but take a step back. “Could she be a ghost from those people?”
“Of course, they are people! Ghosts don’t take taxis!” the driver shouted, dropping the Scarred Man who was already close to death, and directly pulling out the pistol tucked into his back. “You all move aside!”
Bang— A loud crash echoed, but Wen Yunqing stood firmly in place.
The driver sucked in a sharp breath, hardened his resolve, and fired continuously, emptying the entire magazine. Wen Yunqing stood rooted to the spot the entire time, condensing a small protective barrier of spiritual energy that steadily blocked every bullet.
“Fourth Brother, is the person you brought back really human?” The youngest person’s expression began to crumble. The car headlights were still on, and he could clearly see that every single bullet stopped abruptly just before touching Wen Yunqing and then dropped to the ground out of thin air.
“I… I don’t… I don’t know…” The driver’s hand, which was supposed to be taking money, began to tremble. He had emptied his bullets; what should he do now?
“What are you dawdling for? Get in the car!” The person called Second Brother had, at some point, gotten into another vehicle. He didn’t dare ram Wen Yunqing with the car; he just wanted to escape quickly.
Escape? Wen Yunqing looked down at the bullet casings on the ground, imbued spiritual energy into two of them, and directly blew out the tires of their escape vehicle.
“I’ll give you a chance: either call the police and surrender yourselves right now, or I will send you on your way,” Wen Yunqing said expressionlessly. Having used two bullet casings, there were seven or eight left on the ground; if they didn’t cooperate…
“We’ll call the police! We surrender!” The youngest one collapsed first, immediately dropping to his knees with a thud, fumbling for his phone to dial 110.
Second Brother couldn’t stand it. He got out of the car and kicked the phone out of his hand. “Friend, we indeed committed a crime, but you just killed our boss too. If we call the police, none of us will get off easy. Why don’t we just pretend none of this ever happened?” He didn’t believe in ghosts or anything supernatural; even if this person wasn’t hit by the bullets, perhaps Fourth Brother’s marksmanship was just poor and he missed every shot.
“Do you think I will negotiate with you?” Wen Yunqing let out a light chuckle. Although her cultivation was limited, dealing with a few ordinary people was easy.
“Even if you can kill all of us, you’ll still have to dispose of the bodies. You’ll definitely get into trouble then,” Second Brother said courteously. “How about this: I’ll release the people we captured, and then I’ll clean up the scene for you?”
“I won’t pursue the matter of you killing him, and you won’t pursue the matter of us kidnapping,” Second Brother kept his hands up the entire time, maintaining a very sincere attitude.
“Did I kill anyone? The person on the ground clearly died due to your internal conflict,” Wen Yunqing was genuinely bewildered. Did they take her for some naive, world-ignorant child? Did she truly look that easy to fool?
“If all of you die, it will be even more convenient. Dead men tell no tales. Whatever I say the truth is, will be the truth,” Wen Yunqing said, meeting Second Brother’s gaze.
“You must remember, the person on the ground was killed by you, because you suddenly had a change of heart and wanted to turn yourself in,” Wen Yunqing spoke slowly. “As for us, we were just people caught in the crossfire, completely unconscious the entire time, knowing nothing.”
Second Brother’s eyes began to change. He muttered to himself, “Big Brother was killed by me… I must surrender… I must surrender…”
“I told you he wasn’t human! This is a ghost!” The youngest one, perhaps due to a guilty conscience, had highly confused thoughts.
Wen Yunqing couldn’t be bothered to argue further with these people. She repeated her previous actions, directly altering their perception. After finishing everything, Wen Yunqing’s spiritual energy was nearly depleted. She glanced at the unconscious girls in the back seat of the other car, then returned to her own car, letting Wen Yimeng lean against her.
The location was quite remote, and the police didn’t arrive until nearly twenty minutes later. Hearing the piercing yet reassuring sound of the sirens, Wen Yunqing slowly opened her eyes. The situation unfolded exactly as Wen Yunqing had anticipated. Although the police were surprised why those four men suddenly had a change of heart and turned themselves in, the incident did not implicate the innocent girls.
Wen Yimeng woke up later than the others. Before she could grasp what had happened, she was escorted by the police into a police car to give a statement at the station.
“You weren’t behind this, were you?” Wen Han’s voice reached Wen Yunqing as soon as she finished her statement.
Wen Yunqing seemed to loathe Wen Han’s presence, opening her mouth expressionlessly. “What does this have to do with me? We just happened to be in a car belonging to bad people. By the time I woke up, the police had already arrived.”
“Really?” Wen Han’s face was filled with suspicion. “I already asked the Deputy Chief; the human traffickers originally planned to send the captured people to Ankang Village.”
“Ankang Village?” Wen Yunqing’s eyebrows rose slightly. That name sounded strangely familiar.
“How about that? Does it sound familiar?” Wen Han’s gaze locked firmly onto Wen Yunqing’s face. “As far as I know, the village you used to live in was Ankang Village, right?”
Hearing this, Wen Yunqing also reacted. “Just because of that, you suspect that I was the one directing this entire affair?”
“You can know a person’s face but not their heart. Yimeng has lived with me for seventeen years; I understand her character. But I have only been interacting with you for a little over a month. How can you expect me to trust you?” Wen Han did not think his suspicion was unreasonable. While taking their statements, he had specifically inquired about the situation at the scene: one person suddenly realizing the error of his ways was plausible, but how could all four people simultaneously experience a change of heart? Someone must have interfered.
“Suit yourself. I don’t want your trust anyway,” Wen Yunqing’s impression of Wen Han was that he was a low-tier CEO, a piece of trash who couldn’t handle a little scare from her.
Seeing that the two had stopped speaking, Wen Yimeng came out, her expression normal, and said, “Brother, you’re here.”
“Yimeng, are you done with your statement? Come on, go to the hospital with me for a thorough, full-body check-up,” Wen Han instantly changed his expression and said with a smile.
“I’m fine; I feel like I just slept for a while,” Wen Yimeng replied, looking at Wen Yunqing with a hint of apology. This matter of taking a taxi home was entirely her suggestion. It was her choice of car that caused the problem, which implicated Wen Yunqing and caused her to be suspected by Wen Han.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t protect you properly this time,” before Wen Yimeng could speak, Wen Yunqing apologized first, placing all the responsibility on herself. “When the car arrived, I did feel something was off, but I couldn’t pinpoint exactly what it was.”
“If they hadn’t started fighting among themselves, we might have been in real danger,” Wen Yunqing said, stepping forward to hug Wen Yimeng. “Yimeng darling, you’ll forgive me, right?”
“Ah?” Wen Yimeng didn’t react immediately, allowing Wen Yunqing to rest her chin against her neck.
“Fine! I knew you did it on purpose!” Wen Han exploded. “You weren’t admitting anything just now, saying you knew nothing!”
“I truly didn’t know anything; I just had a ‘feeling,'” having taken advantage of the situation, Wen Yunqing quickly let go. “Feelings are too vague; I can’t base my actions on them.”
“You sensed something was wrong, so you shouldn’t have gotten in the car!” Wen Han pressed.
“Are you sure?” Wen Yunqing raised an eyebrow. “I have a very strong feeling right now.”
Wen Han frowned. “What feeling?”
“The feeling of giving you a few punches,” Wen Yunqing said, raising her hand and making a motion as if to strike.
“Alright, alright, it’s fine as long as everyone is okay,” Wen Yimeng quickly grabbed Wen Yunqing’s hand. “It’s getting late now; let’s go back early, lest Mom and Dad worry.” Wen Yimeng had a headache. What was going on with these two? They were biological siblings, so why did they start fighting the moment they met? And the cause of the fight was always related to her—it made no sense!
After Wen Yimeng pulled one person on each side away, the two criminal police officers in charge of the case silently walked out from behind.
“Captain, based on that conversation, it seems these two weren’t involved,” the younger officer said.
“Not necessarily.” The female officer’s eyes were sharp. “Find time to secretly investigate these two people. One of them gave me a very strange feeling.”
“Understood,” the other officer replied.
