I Got Together With the Fake Heiress - Chapter 15
After dinner, Wen Yunqing took the liberty of requesting to go watch a movie as well. Seeing the expectant look on Wen Yunqing’s face, Wen Yimeng reluctantly agreed, casually asking, “Have you chosen a movie?”
“Of course. I booked a movie that just premiered yesterday; it’s a youth campus theme,” Wen Yunqing said confidently. “I read the reviews below; everyone says it makes them feel like they’ve ‘returned to high school,’ so it should be quite interesting.”
“Return to high school?” Wen Yimeng tilted her head. “Aren’t we currently in high school?”
“Yes, I thought it would be very suitable for us to watch; we’ll feel a strong sense of immersion?” Wen Yunqing stroked her chin. She had seen the trailer; it seemed to be about a campus romance. Wen Yimeng instinctively felt something was wrong, but she couldn’t find a point to refute it, so she remained silent.
Because of the movie plans, Wen Yimeng had Uncle Li drive back early, instructing him to contact them only when the two were ready to return.
The cinema was very close to the restaurant, so the two gave up on transportation and walked to the cinema, arriving at their destination about ten minutes later.
“Yimeng, what do you want to drink?” Wen Yunqing stood at the concession stand, looking up at the menu board. “Juice, soda, or milk tea?”
“Juice,” Wen Yimeng looked up briefly. “Add a large tub of popcorn.”
“Okay, two juices, and… one extra-large popcorn,” Wen Yunqing said, opening her small school bag and pulling out a red bill.
“Okay, please wait.” The cashier deftly took the money and filled the popcorn tub with two large scoops. “Do you want the juice to-go or open?”
“To-go,” Wen Yimeng stepped forward, reached out, and took hold of the popcorn tub. “You carry the juice for me.”
“Sure~” Wen Yunqing stuffed the change into her pocket, then held one cup of juice in each hand after a slight hesitation, transitioning from one hand to two.
“Yimeng, I want some popcorn,” Wen Yunqing took a step forward, moving right up to Wen Yimeng.
Wen Yimeng raised an eyebrow. “If you want some, take it yourself.”
“But I have no hands right now,” Wen Yunqing blinked innocently, holding out her hands as if to demonstrate, “Could you feed me just one kernel?” Although this was phrased as a question, Wen Yunqing opened her mouth immediately after speaking, looking ready to be fed.
Glancing at the juices Wen Yunqing was holding, Wen Yimeng slowly let out a breath. “Are you sure you want me to feed you popcorn?”
Wen Yunqing nodded vigorously, looking at Wen Yimeng with anticipation.
Wen Yimeng smiled, then reached out, grabbed a handful, and steadily dumped the entire handful into her mouth. “Since you want some, just one kernel isn’t enough; you should eat more.”
“Eugh-wuh-wuh, mmm, mmm-mmm-wuh!” Wen Yunqing could not speak clearly and could only chew with puffed-out cheeks, like a hamster, working hard to finish the popcorn in her mouth.
By the time Wen Yunqing had mostly finished eating, the two had reached the ticket gate. Before Wen Yunqing could say anything, Wen Yimeng acted like a seasoned pro, reaching into Wen Yunqing’s coat pocket and retrieving two tickets.
“You two are watching in the IMAX theater; the second one on the left is the one,” the ticket checker said with a smile, returning the stubs to Wen Yimeng.
“Thank you,” Wen Yimeng thanked the checker politely. She looked at the seat numbers, put the stubs back into Wen Yunqing’s coat pocket, and simultaneously took the juice cup from Wen Yunqing’s left hand.
Wen Yunqing looked at her empty left hand and quickly followed Wen Yimeng’s pace.
In Wen Yunqing’s view, a movie labeled as youth campus romance would mostly feature students having early relationships, or at least have an inspirational learning theme. The first half of the movie was normal, showing friendly interactions among classmates. However, when she saw the latter half, the expression on her face began to change for the worse. Never mind the lack of sweet campus romance—why did the male and female leads in this film cheat halfway through their relationship? The subsequent College Entrance Exam saw one miss it due to a car accident, and the other underperform, leading one to move bricks at a construction site and the other to repeat the year, only to meet again years later in an office building and exchange a knowing smile?
“Wen Yunqing, are you trying to warn me not to have an early romance?” Wen Yimeng fell silent after the credits rolled. Was this the film Wen Yunqing chose?
“No way! I specifically checked online; this movie has all positive reviews!” Wen Yunqing looked as if she had seen a ghost, pulling out her phone while the actors’ list played on the big screen and immediately flipping to the ticketing page. “Look, the rating is over eight points; aren’t the featured reviews all positive?” Wen Yunqing said, handing her phone directly to Wen Yimeng.
“Generally, the pinned and featured reviews are all artificially inflated data…” Wen Yimeng felt like laughing. “It’s only been showing for two days, and the box office hasn’t even broken ten million; you can tell it’s bad.”
Wen Yunqing’s eyes widened. “So, I was tricked?”
Wen Yimeng nodded without hesitation. “That kind of trope is very low-level now; not many people fall for it anymore.”
Wen Yunqing became dejected. She originally intended to use the movie to show Wen Yimeng how fun a campus romance could be, but after all her calculations, she never expected to be fooled by fake online reviews. Was this not equivalent to shooting herself in the foot?
Seeing Wen Yunqing hanging her head in disappointment, Wen Yimeng seized the opportunity and started rubbing her hair, offering fake comfort. “There, there, next time tell me before you buy tickets, and we’ll watch it together, so you won’t get tricked.” Compared to the buzz cut she had a month ago, Wen Yunqing’s current hairstyle was closer to that of a normal boy’s short cut, making it very comfortable to touch, not prickly at all.
“Really?” Wen Yunqing didn’t care about her hair being messed up and instead looked at Wen Yimeng pitifully. “Then, can you help me out again and date me?”
Hearing this, Wen Yimeng immediately withdrew her hand and hastily changed the subject. “It’s dark outside now. Do you want to walk around for a bit, or should we go straight back?” What a joke! She wouldn’t believe a single word of Wen Yunqing’s claim that she liked her. Even if it were true, if they were to date, they would most likely be forcibly separated by her father and end up with an arranged marriage as the outcome.
Watching Wen Yimeng stand up and walk out, Wen Yunqing instantly dropped her pitiful expression, ran her hands through her hair twice to make sure her hairstyle wasn’t too strange. What was going on? Why wasn’t her darling Yimeng receptive to either hard or soft tactics? Usually, when she showed weakness during tutoring, darling Yimeng would be delighted; why was she acting so avoidant today? Could dating her be a terrifying prospect for darling Yimeng?
Wen Yunqing’s thought process suddenly normalized for a moment, but she quickly dismissed the idea. Absolutely impossible! Who was she? In her past life, she had countless admirers. There was no reason she should suddenly be completely unattractive in a different world! Darling Yimeng must not understand her yet. Once she recovered her strength, darling Yimeng would surely fall for her! Wen Yunqing’s confidence seemed blind, but considering she was adored by the entire world in her previous life, it was somewhat understandable.
Seeing that it was getting late, Wen Yimeng did not call Uncle Li to pick them up. Instead, she opened a certain app and hailed a ride online directly.
“Is this user with license plate ending in 6688?” The driver who accepted the ride arrived in less than three minutes.
“Yes,” Wen Yimeng opened the car door and sat directly in the back seat. Wen Yunqing turned her head, looked at the front of the car, closed her door, walked halfway around, and then got into the car from the left side.
“Do you prefer to sit on this side?” Wen Yimeng asked curiously about Wen Yunqing’s action.
Wen Yunqing nodded. “I think the view is a bit better from this side.”
About five minutes after getting into the car, Wen Yimeng couldn’t help but let out a yawn, squinted at the time on her phone, and muttered, “Accompanying you to the movie was really tiring. I used to not get sleepy until eleven o’clock, but now I can’t manage before that time.”
Wen Yunqing turned her gaze away, lowered her head, and asked softly, “Then lean on me and sleep for a while?”
“No. You don’t have much flesh on you; leaning on your bones will be hard and uncomfortable.” Despite saying this, not long after Wen Yimeng finished speaking, she couldn’t hold on any longer, closed her eyes, and let her head fall onto Wen Yunqing’s shoulder.
Wen Yunqing gently adjusted her posture for her, then also relaxed and leaned against the seat, closing her eyes as if dozing.
Just as both of them closed their eyes, the driver in the driver’s seat curved his lips, turned the steering wheel sharply, and deviated directly from the original route, driving toward an increasingly secluded area.
About twenty minutes later, the car stopped. The driver unbuckled his seatbelt and got out. “Big Brother, I had an unexpected gain this time; I got two pretty little girls.” Saying this, the driver couldn’t help but laugh. “Your medicine is really effective, Big Brother. Both girls fell asleep just a few minutes after getting in the car.”
“What’s going on? According to my plan, we already had enough people,” the man called Big Brother, a middle-aged man with a scar on his face, frowned deeply. “Did you check these two people’s backgrounds?”
“Check what? They’re probably just ordinary people. I picked them up through the ride-hailing app,” the driver said smugly.
The Scarred Man remained silent. He opened one of the car doors and glanced at the two people’s attire. “Idiot! What do you call this ‘ordinary people’!” The Scarred Man’s face changed color. “Do you know that the clothes they are wearing alone could buy your car!”
The driver was stunned. “Big Brother, then what should I do? Send them back?”
“Is your head full of water?” The Scarred Man kicked the driver hard. “If you send them back now, will they wake up!”
“Then… Big Brother, what should we do?” The kicked driver dared not speak.
The Scarred Man’s face darkened. “Set off immediately, tonight. Arrange for these two to be sent to the farthest place possible!”
