I Got A Girlfriend After Losing My Memory (Transmigration) - Chapter 7
The Next Day:
Tang Fuzhi woke up to the sight of pale skin with faint blue veins visible beneath it. She froze for a moment, memories of the previous night flooding back. Realizing this was Tao Ran’s neck, she instinctively tried to pull away from her embrace.
But the moment she moved, Tao Ran’s hand tightened around her waist, startling Tang Fuzhi into thinking she had woken up.
She glanced up again, confirming Tao Ran was still asleep, and let out a relieved breath.
After what had just happened, Tang Fuzhi didn’t dare move, afraid of waking Tao Ran. After all, Tao Ran had stayed up so late last night. She should let her rest properly.
Bored and unable to use her phone, Tang Fuzhi could only stare blankly at Tao Ran.
This was the first time she had examined Tao Ran so closely. Tang Fuzhi had to admit that Tao Ran’s appearance perfectly matched her preferences. Every inch of her seemed to have been crafted to appeal to her heart.
Looking back, she realized that her lack of resistance to Tao Ran’s intimacy yesterday was likely due to that face.
If someone with a different face had been so close to her, she definitely would have rejected them.
As she thought this, Tang Fuzhi couldn’t help but recall Tao Ran’s words about love at first sight. It perfectly described her current situation of being drawn to someone’s looks.
After admiring Tao Ran’s face, Tang Fuzhi’s gaze drifted to her slender neck. The simple camisole dress easily revealed the skin above her chest.
Last night had been too dark. She had only been able to make out vague details by the faint moonlight and the glow from the laptop screen on Tao Ran’s lap.
But now, with the sun rising and streaming through the window into the hospital room, Tang Fuzhi could clearly see Tao Ran’s delicate neck.
The low neckline of the camisole offered a glimpse of snow-white skin, making Tang Fuzhi’s face flush crimson. She quickly averted her gaze to the white ceiling.
Though both were white, one brought a sense of tranquility, while the other made her heart race and her cheeks flush.
After a long while, Tang Fuzhi’s neck began to ache in that position. With no other choice, she cautiously reached out to free herself from Tao Ran’s embrace.
Throughout the process, she carefully observed Tao Ran, terrified of waking her with her movements. Every time Tao Ran stirred even slightly, Tang Fuzhi froze like a frightened quail, holding her breath.
Only after confirming that Tao Ran showed no signs of waking did Tang Fuzhi dare to move her stiff body, attempting to slip away.
Finally, after more than ten minutes, Tang Fuzhi managed to leave the bed and successfully set foot on the floor.
Perhaps it was thanks to the massage Tao Ran had given her the previous day, but when her feet touched the ground, though still a bit sore and weak, she found enough strength to support herself as she walked.
She didn’t need to go anywhere anyway; getting out of bed was just to brush her teeth and wash her face.
After her simple morning routine, Tang Fuzhi limped over to the sofa where Tao Ran had been lying the day before, using the wall for support as she played with her phone. Though her movements were labored, she managed to avoid any falls.
Having lost her previous memories, Tang Fuzhi wasn’t yet adept at using her phone. She relied on recognizing icons and randomly tapping around to figure out how each app worked.
When the sunlight fell on her, Tao Ran rubbed her eyes, still feeling a bit disoriented.
Since Tang Fuzhi’s accident, she hadn’t slept so soundly.
Thinking about what had happened yesterday, Tao Ran instinctively glanced beside her.
Empty.
She reached out to touch the bed, the coldness making it seem as if everything from last night had been nothing more than a dream, leaving no trace of Tang Fuzhi.
Panic surged through Tao Ran. She threw back the covers and scrambled out of bed, finally noticing Tang Fuzhi sitting on the sofa across the room.
She rushed over and threw her arms around Tang Fuzhi, hugging her tightly, as if afraid she might disappear.
Tang Fuzhi, who had been engrossed in her phone, was startled by the sudden embrace. Tao Ran’s grip was so tight it was almost painful, and she instinctively tried to pull away.
But this movement was misinterpreted by Tao Ran, who took it as a rejection and only tightened her hold.
Confused by Tao Ran’s actions, Tang Fuzhi quickly wrapped her arms around Tao Ran in return, awkwardly patting her back. “What’s wrong? Did you have a nightmare?”
Perhaps Tang Fuzhi’s comforting had worked. Tao Ran seemed to jolt awake from a nightmare, cupping Tang Fuzhi’s face in her hands. Seeing her right there, not lying lifeless in bed, and feeling the warmth of her skin beneath her palms, Tao Ran knew this wasn’t a dream.
Recalling the events of the previous day, Tao Ran didn’t answer Tang Fuzhi’s question. Instead, she forced a smile and asked, “Why are you up so early? Didn’t you sleep well last night?”
Tang Fuzhi shook her head. “I slept too long. I couldn’t fall back asleep.”
Tao Ran offered no explanation, so Tang Fuzhi didn’t press further, though she was still somewhat surprised by Tao Ran’s demeanor.
It seemed Tao Ran really did care for her.
They say a person’s subconscious reactions never lie. The first thing Tao Ran did upon waking was look for her, which made it clear how important Tang Fuzhi was to her.
With that thought, Tang Fuzhi paused her hand, which had been hovering over the “edit contact” button.
The nickname was a bit cloying, not exactly to her taste, but if it was for Tao Ran, it didn’t seem so unbearable after all.
A faint smile tugged at the corners of Tang Fuzhi’s lips.
Her stomach rumbled with hunger, but she had to endure it. Today’s medical examination required her to fast.
Thanks to Tao Ran, Zheng Xiaoxiao and Tang Fuzhi had become acquainted. For the past three months, Zheng Xiaoxiao had been responsible for monitoring Tang Fuzhi’s condition, so it was only natural that she would be the one to conduct this examination.
Although Zheng Xiaoxiao had known Tang Fuzhi was awake, seeing her standing before her still left her feeling somewhat dazed. After all, for the past three months, she had only seen Tang Fuzhi lying in bed.
Looking at Tao Ran, while the dark circles under her eyes were still prominent, her overall demeanor was noticeably improved.
Zheng Xiaoxiao sighed inwardly. As expected, Tang Fuzhi is Tao Ran’s best medicine.
“Doctor? Shall we begin now?” Tang Fuzhi, noticing Zheng Xiaoxiao seemed lost in thought, waved her hand in front of her face to regain her attention.
Zheng Xiaoxiao snapped out of her reverie, her face softening into a gentle smile. Her voice was equally warm and soothing, putting Tang Fuzhi at ease. “We can start now.”
She began by asking Tang Fuzhi about her condition since waking up, making brief notes before leading her to the examination equipment.
Throughout the examination, Tao Ran stayed by her side. Whenever Tang Fuzhi glanced over, their eyes would meet, especially when Tang Fuzhi felt anxious. Seeing Tao Ran always helped her relax.
The examination lasted quite a while before it was finally completed.
“Your recovery is excellent. There’s nothing major to worry about now. Your calf muscles have atrophied slightly, but it’s not severe. Just walk and exercise regularly, and you’ll be fine,” Zheng Xiaoxiao said, putting away the equipment and finally letting out a sigh of relief. “You can be discharged today. Remember to maintain a healthy routine and diet at home. Come back for a follow-up appointment in a week, and contact me if you experience any discomfort in the meantime.”
Remembering Tang Fuzhi’s amnesia, she paused before adding, “My name is Zheng Xiaoxiao. You should have my contact in your WeChat.”
Tang Fuzhi leaned on Tao Ran for support as she stood up with her help. The soreness in her calf was still noticeable, but hearing Zheng Xiaoxiao confirm that there were no serious issues put her at ease.
Leaning against Tao Ran, Tang Fuzhi looked up at the table, where she saw completely incomprehensible writing. “Can my memory be restored?”
Having lost her memories, everything around her felt utterly foreign. This unfamiliarity made her uneasy. Though Tao Ran offered a faint sense of familiarity, it only soothed her anxiety, not completely reassuring her.
Zheng Xiaoxiao glanced at Tao Ran before answering, “The car accident didn’t actually damage your brain. Logically, it shouldn’t have caused amnesia. Our current tests haven’t identified the root cause of your memory loss, and we can’t guarantee whether your memories will return.”
Tang Fuzhi nodded, having already mentally prepared for this outcome. She wasn’t particularly disappointed.
After the physical examination, she was finally allowed to eat. Tang Fuzhi had been starving all morning, but thankfully, Tao Ran had arranged for breakfast to be delivered so she could eat as soon as the tests were done.
Today’s breakfast was millet porridge with stir-fried greens. It looked simple, but also rather bland.
Yesterday, when she had just woken up, she hadn’t had much appetite. Even a simple bowl of millet porridge with an egg had been enough.
But today, feeling much better and with her stomach growling from hunger, a single bowl of plain millet porridge no longer satisfied her.
Tang Fuzhi was about to say something when she noticed Tao Ran was eating the same bland food as her. The words caught in her throat.
If even healthy people were eating this, would she seem ungrateful if she complained?
As Tang Fuzhi pondered, Tao Ran naturally noticed her gaze. She glanced at the plain meal in her bowl, then thought of Tang Fuzhi’s preferences. A smile tugged at her lips. “There, there,” she said in a soothing tone, like she was talking to a child. “I’ll make you something delicious in a couple of days.”
Feeling a little embarrassed by the babying tone, Tang Fuzhi quietly buried her head and ate her rice.
Tang Fuzhi didn’t have much at the hospital. Besides a few changes of underwear and her hospital gown, there was nothing else to pack. It was so simple to organize that Tao Ran finished in under two minutes without needing any help.
Soon, a nurse arrived with a wheelchair.
Tang Fuzhi looked surprised. “I can walk now.”
She was still a bit unsteady and needed Tao Ran’s support, but surely she didn’t need a wheelchair.
