I Got A Girlfriend After Losing My Memory (Transmigration) - Chapter 8
Tao Ran took the wheelchair from the nurse, gently lifted Tang Fuzhi into her arms, and carefully placed her in the seat. She patted Tang Fuzhi’s head. “Remember to exercise in moderation, Tang Tang. You’ve already walked enough for today. Don’t push yourself too hard.”
Before Tang Fuzhi could reply, Tao Ran was already pushing the wheelchair, her voice brimming with barely suppressed joy. “Tang Tang, let’s go home.”
Home?
She liked that word.
The VIP elevator was empty. Tao Ran pushed Tang Fuzhi down without encountering anyone until they left the hospital. Breathing in the fresh air and seeing the people coming to the hospital for treatment or leaving with prescriptions brought a sense of reality.
At the car door, Tao Ran tried to lift Tang Fuzhi again, but she refused. “I just have muscle atrophy, not a broken leg.”
The short distance from the car door to the seat didn’t require a lift.
The driver, who had been watching, finally breathed a sigh of relief. When he saw Miss Tang in the wheelchair, he had feared the car accident had broken her leg.
Tao Ran said nothing, but she looked somewhat disappointed.
After folding the wheelchair and stowing it in the trunk, Tao Ran finally got into the car and sat beside Tang Fuzhi. But it was clear that the woman beside her had eyes and mind only for her phone.
Slightly annoyed, Tao Ran reached over and snatched Tang Fuzhi’s phone, tucking it behind her back.
Tang Fuzhi’s attention finally shifted from her phone to Tao Ran. “What’s wrong?”
Before she could react, Tao Ran pulled her into a hug, resting her chin on Tang Fuzhi’s shoulder. “I’m a little sleepy.”
Remembering how late Tao Ran had worked the previous night, Tang Fuzhi understood. She awkwardly patted Tao Ran’s back.
This… is how it’s supposed to be, right?
Tao Ran hadn’t expected any response, knowing Tang Fuzhi understood so little about such things. But when she actually received a response, her lips curved into an uncontrollable smile, and she tightened her embrace.
This time, however, she controlled her strength, ensuring Tang Fuzhi didn’t feel suffocated.
Sunlight streamed through the car windows, bathing the two women in a golden glow. Clinging together, one content and the other bewildered, they were like twin trees intertwined. Suddenly, a sharp brake shattered the peaceful moment.
A cyclist suddenly darted into the road, forcing the driver to slam on the brakes to avoid an accident.
Startled, the cyclist, likely realizing they were at fault, sped away without attempting to extort them.
“President Tao, Miss Tang, are you both alright?” The driver, shaken by the near miss, immediately checked on his boss.
Tao Ran reacted swiftly, instinctively pulling Tang Fuzhi into her arms. Only after confirming she was unharmed did she release her, cupping Tang Fuzhi’s face in her hands. “Are you okay?”
Tang Fuzhi had suddenly found herself enveloped in a warm embrace, filled with the faint scent of cedarwood. She could hear Tao Ran’s heart pounding in her ear, and for a moment, she thought she heard a thud, as if something had collided with the car.
Before Tang Fuzhi could figure out what the sound was, she was already out of Tao Ran’s arms. Only when she saw the red mark on Tao Ran’s forehead did she realize the noise had been Tao Ran hitting the seat during the sudden stop. “Your forehead!”
The driver in front also heard Tang Fuzhi’s voice and was about to check on his boss, eager to demonstrate his exemplary employee qualities. But before he could speak, he paused to think for once.
With Miss Tang here, the boss probably doesn’t need my concern. Maybe it’s better to keep quiet.
Tao Ran shook her head. “It’ll fade in a bit.” She’d just bumped it during the emergency braking.
Though she said this, Tang Fuzhi assumed she was just trying to avoid worrying her and didn’t believe her at all.
But with her memory loss, she didn’t know what to do in this situation. Fortunately, she’d already figured out most of her phone’s functions and knew that when in doubt, she could just search online.
The phone was behind Tao Ran, so reaching for it inevitably meant touching Tao Ran’s hip. Tang Fuzhi tried to ignore the soft sensation, unlocking the phone and searching as casually as possible.
Tao Ran, noticing Tang Fuzhi tapping away on her phone, snatched it away again, leaving Tang Fuzhi looking puzzled.
“What’s wrong?” Tang Fuzhi asked.
Tao Ran pressed her lips together, refusing to answer. Instead, she reached out and pressed a button, causing a partition to slide down and divide the car into two separate spaces. She deliberately changed the subject. “How did it feel?”
At first, Tang Fuzhi didn’t understand. But when she met Tao Ran’s mischievous gaze, she realized what Tao Ran was asking.
Tang Fuzhi had been trying to convince herself to forget that fleeting sensation, to pretend nothing had happened. But Tao Ran’s question instantly brought back the memory of that soft touch, her cheeks flushing crimson as she hastily covered Tao Ran’s mouth.
Even with the partition in place, the driver couldn’t see the back. But who knew if the partition was soundproof!
Tao Ran’s eyes curved into a smile, her delicate peach blossom eyes still seemed to be teasing for an answer. Tang Fuzhi felt flustered, but she knew Tao Ran wouldn’t let the topic drop so easily if she didn’t respond. She mumbled softly, “It was… okay, I guess.”
Her voice was barely a whisper, afraid the driver might overhear, but fortunately, they were close enough, and the car’s interior was small, so Tao Ran heard her perfectly.
Tao Ran’s eyebrows arched at the response. Just as Tang Fuzhi thought the conversation was over and lowered her hand, Tao Ran spoke up, “Just ‘okay’? Want to feel it again?”
With that, she tried to grab Tang Fuzhi’s hand, eager to experience that “okay” sensation once more.
Tang Fuzhi, startled, quickly replied, “It’s… it’s great!”
But Tao Ran clearly wasn’t letting her off so easily. “What’s great?” she pressed.
Tang Fuzhi closed her eyes in embarrassment, gritting her teeth. “The… the texture is great!”
Though they had kissed before, this was still in front of a stranger, and she had her pride.
She thought that would be the end of it, but Tao Ran, far from backing down, leaned even closer. Their faces were now so close their breaths mingled.
Tang Fuzhi gazed into Tao Ran’s peach blossom eyes, her own reflection mirrored in their depths. Tao Ran’s expression was focused, her voice deliberately lowered, carrying a hint of magnetic allure. “Then… shall we try other places too?”
As they spoke, Tao Ran had already taken Tang Fuzhi’s hand and placed it on her own thigh.
Tao Ran was wearing a short black skirt that day, barely reaching her mid-thigh, perfectly showcasing her long, slender, and fair legs.
Tang Fuzhi had noticed them earlier, but her shyness had prevented her from staring. Now, finally given the opportunity, her hand brushed against that smooth thigh skin. The texture was so exquisite that she couldn’t resist giving it a gentle squeeze.
The texture is incredible.
Though the thigh looked slender, it felt surprisingly fleshy to the touch. Perhaps Tao Ran’s regular exercise routine had kept her flesh firm rather than soft and flabby, making it feel both delicate and resilient.
Suddenly, the car came to a stop. The driver’s voice broke the silence from the front: “President Tao, we’re home.”
Tang Fuzhi replayed her recent actions in her mind, her face burning with shame. She wanted nothing more than to disappear into a hole in the ground.
What… what… what did I just do?!
After accidentally touching Tao Ran’s hip, she had actually stroked her thigh… and even given it a squeeze! A squeeze!
Thankfully, the driver’s words rescued Tang Fuzhi. She pushed open the car door, ready to escape the vehicle as quickly as possible, when Tao Ran grabbed her wrist.
“You’ve already met your exercise quota for today. Sit tight here while I go get your wheelchair.”
Tang Fuzhi couldn’t argue with Tao Ran’s kindness. She could only lower her head silently, pretending nothing had happened, though her heart still pounded wildly, refusing to calm down.
Tao Ran lifted her back into the wheelchair and pushed her onto the elevator. Tang Fuzhi remained mute throughout the ride, desperately trying to act as if nothing had occurred.
An elderly woman entered the elevator, but Tang Fuzhi didn’t notice until the woman spoke.
“Tao Tao’s back!” Grandma Zhang exclaimed, surprised to see Tao Ran. “You haven’t visited in months! I thought you’d moved away.”
Tao Ran clearly knew Grandma Zhang well, her face lighting up with a smile. “Work’s been really busy lately, so I haven’t been able to come by as often.”
Some things were better left unsaid, and “busy with work” was the perfect excuse.
Grandma Zhang didn’t suspect anything. After a brief exchange of pleasantries, she steered the conversation toward Tang Fuzhi. “And who is this young lady?”
Because Tang Fuzhi was sitting in a wheelchair with her head bowed, Grandma Zhang couldn’t see her face clearly and didn’t recognize her at first.
Suddenly called upon, Tang Fuzhi looked up at the kindly old woman and greeted her stiffly, “Hello, Grandma.”
“Oh my, isn’t that Tang Tang?” Perhaps too surprised to notice Tang Fuzhi’s awkwardness, Grandma Zhang didn’t dwell on it. “What happened? Why are you in a wheelchair? Did something happen?”
Clearly, Grandma Zhang hadn’t heard about Tang Fuzhi’s car accident.
Tang Fuzhi clutched the hem of her skirt, feeling flustered by the stranger’s questions. Fortunately, Tao Ran intervened to rescue her. “She took a fall. We’ve already been to the hospital. The doctor said it’s nothing serious. She just needs some rest.”
Grandma Zhang sighed in relief. “Good thing you’re alright, good thing. You young people are always so restless, running around all the time, running around…”
As Grandma Zhang continued her nagging, the elevator arrived. Tao Ran pushed Tang Fuzhi over to the smart lock and pressed her fingerprint.
With a ding, the door unlocked. Tang Fuzhi was still curious about the place she used to live.
Tao Ran pushed Tang Fuzhi inside, explaining everything with pride. “You decorated this living room yourself. It’s just big enough for us to relax or watch TV together.”
The apartment suited Tang Fuzhi’s tastes perfectly. It wasn’t large, maybe fifty or sixty square meters, and the decor was simple but well-equipped.
It was quite surprising.
Although Tang Fuzhi didn’t know exactly what Tao Ran did for a living, she could tell from the hospital that she must be wealthy. Yet someone so rich lived with her in this cozy little apartment.
“This is your room,” Tao Ran said, pushing Tang Fuzhi into the room. She picked up a tattered plush doll from the bedside and placed it on Tang Fuzhi’s lap. “This is your favorite doll. We won it together from a claw machine.”
Tang Fuzhi reached out and took the doll. It was a small, carrot-shaped figure covered in colorful patches, endearingly ugly. The fur was soft and smooth, making it pleasant to touch.
She instinctively squeezed the doll’s soft belly before looking around the room. The headboard was lined with similar endearingly ugly plush toys. The room’s layout was exactly to her taste, and there were faint signs someone had recently slept in the bed.
Seeing how much Tang Fuzhi liked the doll, Tao Ran didn’t take it away. Instead, she pushed her to the next room. “My room is right next door.”
Before Tao Ran could explain further, Tang Fuzhi asked, surprised, “We don’t live together?”
But now, things seemed different from what she’d imagined. Though she and Tao Ran lived together, they had separate rooms, so… they hadn’t progressed to that stage yet?
Tang Fuzhi breathed a sigh of relief.
While she did have some feelings for Tao Ran, from her perspective, they’d only known each other for a day. Yesterday’s kiss had already been her biggest concession. If Tao Ran had asked for anything more intimate, she doubted she could have accepted.
“This room hasn’t been used in a long time,” Tao Ran explained quickly after a brief pause. “We rented this place when we first started dating and applied for off-campus housing.”
The door opened, and Tang Fuzhi finally saw what Tao Ran’s room looked like.
Tao Ran’s room was completely different from hers in style. The color scheme was primarily black, white, and gray, and the layout was simple, containing only essentials.
Tang Fuzhi noticed that the bed was neatly made, looking as if it hadn’t been slept in for a long time.
As if to lend credibility to her words, Tao Ran pushed Tang Fuzhi over to the bathroom sink in the room. There wasn’t even a toothbrush or cup there.
Seeing that Tang Fuzhi believed her, Tao Ran breathed a sigh of relief.
During the three months Tang Fuzhi had been in a coma, Tao Ran often reminisced about their time together. She frequently slept in Tang Fuzhi’s bed, trying to absorb her scent.
Eventually, for convenience, she simply moved her toiletries into Tang Fuzhi’s room.
It was all a series of coincidences that aligned perfectly, leaving Tang Fuzhi with no reason to suspect anything.
The two left the bedroom to continue touring the study before finally returning to the living room.
Tao Ran turned on the television, released the wheelchair’s handles, and went to the study to boil water for Tang Fuzhi.
When she turned back, she saw Tang Fuzhi, who had been sitting in front of the sofa, clumsily fiddling with the wheelchair’s controls, lurching forward one moment and veering left the next.
Tao Ran chuckled softly. Tang Fuzhi, realizing how foolish she looked, flushed crimson and tried to cover her embarrassment with a fierce tone. “Come push me already!”
