I Got A Girlfriend After Losing My Memory (Transmigration) - Chapter 6
The silence around them was so profound that Tang Fuzhi felt she could hear her own heartbeat. She lowered her head, her hand resting over her left breast, still carrying a faint trace of the cedarwood scent she had absorbed from Tao Ran.
Tao Ran, misinterpreting Tang Fuzhi’s push as rejection, felt her heart sink as if doused with cold water. The delicate white tea fragrance lingered on her lips, but her mind raced with rationalizations.
I shouldn’t have rushed things, she told herself. Tang Fuzhi just woke up and is still adjusting to the idea of us being partners. It’s natural for her to reject this right now.
Yet, a mischievous voice whispered in her ear:
She’s already accepted being your girlfriend. Why can’t you kiss her?
What’s wrong with a kiss between lovers? She’ll have to get used to it eventually.
Tao Ran struggled for a moment, but ultimately she listened to her heart. She grasped Tang Fuzhi’s hand, knowing that Tang Fuzhi responded better to gentleness than force. Instead of pulling away forcefully, she softened her tone.
“Tang Tang, please don’t push me away…”
She nestled against Tang Fuzhi’s shoulder, closing her eyes to hide the emotions swirling within them. Her voice was so soft it tugged at the heartstrings. The woman known as President Tao in the business world now seemed like a vulnerable, helpless child in Tang Fuzhi’s arms.
Tang Fuzhi stiffened slightly at the warmth of Tao Ran’s breath near her ear. Uncertain how to react, she thought back to Tao Ran’s kindness that day, and her eyes flickered.
The hand Tao Ran was gripping tightened slightly, creating a small distance between them. This movement sent a jolt of panic through Tao Ran.
She had hoped her vulnerability would earn Tang Fuzhi’s forgiveness, but instead, she was met with rejection.
Just as she felt lost and helpless, the hand that had been pushing against her chest shifted direction, settling on her shoulder. With a gentle but firm pressure, that soft, boneless hand lifted Tang Fuzhi’s body, and a soft warmth pressed against Tao Ran’s lips, her eyes widening in surprise.
Tang Fuzhi hesitated for a moment, but ultimately relented. Though she had no memories, she could sense Tao Ran’s feelings for her through her words and expressions.
It would be devastating for anyone to suddenly lose their memory after four years of being in love.
Moreover, Tang Fuzhi was in an unfamiliar place and currently only knew Tao Ran. She was her sole source of support.
Unable to find the right words to comfort Tao Ran, Tang Fuzhi decided to express herself through action.
When her lips pressed against Tao Ran’s soft ones, Tang Fuzhi felt a surge of nervousness. This was her first time doing something like this, her only experience being Tao Ran’s earlier kiss.
Recalling the sensation of Tao Ran’s kiss, Tang Fuzhi boldly extended her tongue and licked.
Sweet.
It tasted like cotton candy.
Tao Ran’s eyes widened in surprise. She had never expected Tang Fuzhi to initiate a kiss.
This was an unexpected delight.
However…
She struggled to suppress the corners of her mouth, not wanting Tang Fuzhi to notice her joy, and quietly waited for her next move.
But Tang Fuzhi was a complete novice. After that single lick, she froze, remaining motionless in the same position.
After a long moment, seeing Tao Ran still showed no reaction, Tang Fuzhi blinked.
This should be the end, right?
Recalling the kiss Tao Ran had just given her, Tang Fuzhi couldn’t remember any further action.
Feigning composure, Tang Fuzhi pulled away from Tao Ran’s lips, her heart pounding uncontrollably.
With this, Tao Ran should understand what I mean, right?
She stole a glance at Tao Ran, catching a flicker of reluctance in her eyes. In that instant, she understood the unspoken words in Tao Ran’s gaze.
Tang Fuzhi pressed her lips together, still tasting a hint of sweetness from Tao Ran’s kiss. Her cheeks flushed even deeper, and she wanted to hide under the covers, but concern for Tao Ran’s feelings held her back. She parted her lips slightly. “I didn’t mean it like that.”
Tao Ran found it amusing how Tang Fuzhi could be so adorable, offering her kiss while still trying to comfort her.
But she had to admit, Tang Fuzhi’s gesture had reassured her. At least it proved her gamble with this lie had paid off.
Recalling the slightly damp sensation of their lips touching, Tao Ran’s eyes sparkled with suppressed laughter. She reached out to stroke Tang Fuzhi’s hair, their faces close. “Mm, I understand now. I misunderstood you, Tang Tang. It won’t happen again.”
Her tone was full of gentle teasing, like she was coaxing a child. Tang Fuzhi, already flustered, grew even more embarrassed by the reminder of her own boldness.
Now that Tao Ran understood her meaning, Tang Fuzhi abandoned her pretense and burrowed completely under the covers.
Outside the blanket, Tao Ran found Tang Fuzhi’s reaction both amusing and a little exasperating. She knew that rushing things would backfire. This was only their first day together, and Tang Fuzhi’s initiative was already an unexpected delight.
Gently tugging at the blanket, Tao Ran coaxed Tang Fuzhi out. Suppressing a smile, she said, “Even though it’s cooler at night, it’s still summer. Don’t suffocate yourself under there.”
Finally, just like their first meeting that afternoon, she pressed a goodnight kiss to Tang Fuzhi’s forehead. “Sleep well.”
As Tao Ran turned to leave, Tang Fuzhi was about to call out to stop her. But Tao Ran seemed to sense her unease. She glanced back with a reassuring smile. “I’m just going to grab some clothes for a shower. Don’t worry, I’m not going anywhere. I’ll stay with you tonight.”
Tang Fuzhi silently exhaled in relief.
True to her word, Tao Ran quickly returned with a few items of clothing and headed for the shower.
The sound of dripping water drifted from the bathroom. Tang Fuzhi found the barely audible sound not at all disruptive, but rather deeply comforting. It was wonderful to have someone nearby.
Lulled by the rhythmic dripping, Tang Fuzhi drifted into a deep sleep.
By the time Tao Ran emerged from the bathroom, Tang Fuzhi was already asleep. Only the soft, even rhythm of her breathing filled the quiet hospital room, a harmonious sound in the stillness.
Tao Ran glanced down at the red slip dress she had chosen specifically for this occasion. It perfectly showcased her figure, the delicate hollow of her collarbones visible above the expanse of bare, pale skin. Fortunately, the summer night was warm enough that she didn’t feel cold.
It was a pity that this carefully prepared beauty went unappreciated.
Tao Ran settled onto the small sofa nearby, switching off the light to avoid disturbing Tang Fuzhi’s sleep. She pulled out her laptop and began working, a sense of contentment washing over her as she watched Tang Fuzhi sleeping peacefully in the bed.
As the night deepened, Tang Fuzhi stirred. Perhaps it was because she had slept so much during the past three months, or because she had napped for a long time earlier in the day. She woke up quickly.
She blinked groggily, rubbed her eyes, and saw Tao Ran leaning against the sofa in the dim light. The glow from the laptop screen illuminated Tao Ran’s face, softening her features. Without her makeup, she looked less formidable than she did during the day.
Seeing Tao Ran on the sofa, keeping her company, Tang Fuzhi’s heart warmed as she remembered how she had tugged on Tao Ran’s sleeve, refusing to let her leave.
She quietly pulled out her phone and glanced at the time.
1:14 AM
It’s already so late?
Her first instinct was to tell Tao Ran to rest properly. Even if you’re busy with work, you need to take care of yourself. But then she remembered how Tao Ran had seemed so relaxed and unhurried during the day, and Tang Fuzhi sighed.
Never mind. Even if I said something and Tao Ran listened, what good would it do?
The work wouldn’t disappear just because Tao Ran stopped. It would only pile up more.
Since I can’t help, there’s no point in saying anything.
Unable to sleep anyway, Tang Fuzhi turned sideways to watch Tao Ran work.
I have to admit, watching Tao Ran work is utterly captivating. Her slightly upturned peach blossom eyes were fixed intently on the computer screen, her slender fingers occasionally tapping the keys.
Perhaps she had been sitting in one position for too long and felt uncomfortable. Tao Ran shifted, her shoulder pressing against the laptop as her leg supporting it dipped slightly. It was then that Tang Fuzhi finally noticed the collarbone that had been hidden by the screen.
Tao Ran is wearing a slip dress!
The dim screen light barely illuminated the fiery red fabric, making her skin appear even paler. Tang Fuzhi could faintly see the delicate hollow beneath the strap, and her slender, fair arms were perfectly proportioned, a sight to behold.
Though Tang Fuzhi had lost her memories, she was certain that her initial infatuation with Tao Ran had been purely superficial. After all, who could resist such a stunning beauty?
Before she knew it, Tang Fuzhi had become completely mesmerized. Gradually, Tao Ran finished her work, stretched languidly, and her eyes inadvertently met Tang Fuzhi’s amber gaze.
“Did I disturb you?” Tao Ran glanced at the time. It was nearly three in the morning. She wondered how long Tang Fuzhi had been watching her.
Tang Fuzhi shook her head, her voice soft. “Maybe I slept too much during the day.”
Tao Ran closed her laptop. As the screen dimmed, the only light left in the room was the faint moonlight filtering through the window.
“Get some more sleep. You have a checkup tomorrow.”
Tang Fuzhi nodded, watching Tao Ran lie down in the dim moonlight.
The sofa wasn’t very large, barely accommodating Tao Ran’s slender frame. Tang Fuzhi noticed her long, straight legs had nowhere to go under the thin blanket. She bit her lip, hesitated for a moment, then spoke.
“Why don’t you come up here and get some rest?”
Tao Ran looked up in surprise, but in the dim light, she could only make out Tang Fuzhi’s silhouette, unable to discern her expression.
Tang Fuzhi regretted her words the moment they left her lips. Her mouth parted slightly, as if to say, “Never mind,” but Tao Ran had already gotten up and was walking over. Unable to retract her invitation, Tang Fuzhi shifted to the side, making room for Tao Ran on the narrow hospital bed.
Tao Ran lay down beside Tang Fuzhi. Despite both being slender, the bed felt cramped. Their bare arms pressed tightly together.
Tang Fuzhi felt the coolness of the late summer night through the warmth radiating from Tao Ran’s arm. After a moment’s hesitation, she reached out and tucked the blanket around Tao Ran.
Tao Ran froze at Tang Fuzhi’s gesture, then a smile bloomed across her face. She wrapped her arm around Tang Fuzhi’s increasingly slender waist, feeling the younger woman’s stiffness. Tao Ran placed her other hand behind Tang Fuzhi’s head, gently pressing her closer. Feigning exhaustion, she murmured, “So tired… just let me hold you for a bit.”
Her voice sounded genuinely weary, as if she were truly exhausted.
Tang Fuzhi’s hand, which had been about to push Tao Ran away, paused. She remembered that Tao Ran had been working late to keep her company. Besides, Tang Fuzhi was in a strange place and still relied on Tao Ran.
Thinking this, Tang Fuzhi ultimately didn’t refuse Tao Ran, but simply closed her eyes in silence.
Though she had slept a lot during the day, now, with Tao Ran’s presence enveloping her, she drifted off to sleep again without realizing it.
Feeling the breath in the hollow of her neck gradually even out, Tao Ran’s hand slipped inside Tang Fuzhi’s hospital gown, her fingertips caressing the delicate skin of her waist. She sighed softly.
If only time could freeze in this moment forever.
