I Got A Girlfriend After Losing My Memory (Transmigration) - Chapter 30.2
He Ruo quickly averted her eyes, handing over the documents. Her tone became serious and professional as she got down to business.
Tao Ran snapped out of her reverie, studying the documents intently.
Her expression grew increasingly grave, her brow furrowing.
After a long moment, she set the papers down, tapping her fingers rhythmically on the desk.
Finally, she sighed. “What’s the earliest flight?”
He Ruo, prepared as always, replied without hesitation, “The 7:30 AM flight.”
The company was at least an hour’s drive from the airport.
Tao Ran nodded. “Prepare yourself. You’re coming with me.”
He Ruo left the office.
Ever since opening that file, Tao Ran’s brow hadn’t relaxed.
Not long after confirming He Ruo had left, Tang Fuzhi emerged from behind the door, punching Tao Ran’s back with a fierce air.
“You’re not allowed to kiss me in the office anymore!”
The thought of herself looking like that in the office, reflected in the mirror, infuriated her.
She expected Tao Ran to coax her out of her anger, but instead, Tao Ran grabbed her arm, pulled her into a hug, and rested her chin on Tang Fuzhi’s head.
Tang Fuzhi’s scolding words were cut short by Tao Ran’s actions.
The room suddenly fell silent, so quiet Tang Fuzhi could almost hear Tao Ran’s heartbeat.
She froze for a moment, the strange atmosphere extinguishing her anger completely. She tugged at Tao Ran’s sleeve, trying to see her expression.
“W-what’s wrong?”
In such an atmosphere, it was hard not to overthink.
What exactly was this “urgent document”? Was the Tao Group about to collapse? Or had Tao Ran been ousted from her position?
Just as Tang Fuzhi’s thoughts were running wild, Tao Ran finally spoke. “I have to go on a business trip later.”
Tang Fuzhi’s thoughts froze. She turned to look at Tao Ran, her eyes wide with disbelief. “Are you… are you lying to me?”
She had just confirmed Tao Ran’s place in her heart. How could she suddenly have to go on a business trip?
Tang Fuzhi suddenly remembered He Ruo mentioning urgent documents at the office door. She instinctively grabbed Tao Ran’s collar and asked, “Is it really urgent?”
Tao Ran lowered her head to meet the younger woman’s gaze. Tang Fuzhi’s downcast lashes hid her expression, but her dejected tone spoke volumes.
“Yes, it’s very urgent.”
If she could, she wouldn’t want to leave Tang Fuzhi at this moment either.
Her girlfriend had finally returned to her side, her girlfriend was finally showing signs of understanding her feelings, and now she had to leave her.
Tang Fuzhi pouted, forgetting her earlier anger. She leaned her head against Tao Ran’s shoulder, listening to her heartbeat through the fabric.
“Will you be gone for long?”
Tao Ran’s chest felt heavy. She wrapped one arm around Tang Fuzhi’s waist and gently stroked her hair with the other. “At least three to five days, maybe up to a week. I’ll come back as soon as I can.”
Tang Fuzhi wasn’t comforted by her words; instead, she felt a pang of resentment. She reached out to fasten the button on Tao Ran’s collar, but her fingers fumbled, accidentally undoing it and revealing Tao Ran’s pale collarbone.
“But we’ve only known each other for a week,” Tang Fuzhi protested.
To be separated after just a week, and for another week at that, felt unbearable.
Tao Ran’s heart tightened. Oblivious to Tang Fuzhi’s fidgeting, she pressed a kiss to her forehead, wanting to reassure her but unsure what to say.
Tang Fuzhi continued, “What if you forget me after a week? What if you find a new girlfriend?”
Tao Ran’s brow furrowed, disliking the implication. She gently pinched Tang Fuzhi’s chin, her expression turning cold. Their eyes locked, each seeing their own reflection in the other’s gaze.
At that moment, Tao Ran noticed the hurt in Tang Fuzhi’s eyes, and her irritation instantly melted away.
“Don’t talk nonsense,” Tao Ran said, her voice softening. “To me, I’ve known you for four years. How could I forget four years of feelings just because we’re apart for a week?”
Her fingertips traced the delicate curve of the girl’s waist, no one could sense the anxiety Tang Fuzhi’s words had stirred within her. She pressed her fingertips slightly harder, yet restrained herself, careful not to pinch the girl.
“I’m the one who should be worried,” she murmured.
Meeting Tang Fuzhi’s puzzled gaze, Tao Ran sighed, stroking her hair with a hint of helplessness. “To you, I’m the one you’ve only known for a week.”
Her own unease was no less than Tang Fuzhi’s.
Tang Fuzhi’s eyes flickered, and she realized there was some truth to that.
What she felt wasn’t so much anxiety as reluctance.
Though she hadn’t explicitly voiced her feelings to Tao Ran, the woman’s displayed concern made Tang Fuzhi feel deeply cherished.
This sense of being valued made the corners of Tang Fuzhi’s lips curl involuntarily. She asked awkwardly, “Then… then why don’t I come with you?”
The words slipped out without thinking, but the more she considered them, the more sense they made.
Tang Fuzhi’s eyes sparkled as she looked at Tao Ran. “Yeah, I can keep you company! You can work, and I’ll stay at the hotel with Xu Rujia. We can have dinner together when you get back, and maybe even explore the place you’re visiting.”
Come to think of it, she’d never really traveled far from home before.
The farthest she’d ever been was from her house to Tao Ran’s office.
Her daily routine was confined to the neighborhood around her apartment complex.
Tang Fuzhi felt a little thrill of excitement at the thought of seeing the world beyond her familiar surroundings.
Tao Ran gently flicked her nose, her voice full of affection. “No, you can’t. Don’t forget, you have your checkup with Zheng Xiaoxiao the day after tomorrow.”
Tang Fuzhi’s willingness to suggest going with her still pleased Tao Ran.
She knew all too well that Tang Fuzhi felt uneasy and even a little frightened in unfamiliar environments.
Whenever the idea of going out came up, Tang Fuzhi always preferred to have Xu Rujia, someone she was slightly more comfortable with, accompany her rather than staying alone in a strange hotel.
Yet even so, Tang Fuzhi had chosen to go to H City with her.
Tao Ran pressed her forehead against Tang Fuzhi’s, her beautiful almond-shaped eyes curving upward with tenderness. “It’ll be okay. We can video call every day.”
Tang Fuzhi pouted, her gaze dropping. “But… I’ll miss you so much.”
The little girl’s voice was soft and sweet, with a hint of a pleading nasal tone. Tao Ran felt her heart melt. After a moment’s hesitation, she quickly dismissed other options that crossed her mind.
For instance, she considered bringing Zheng Xiaoxiao to H City, but she quickly rejected the idea.
The diagnostic machine used to examine Tang Fuzhi was the most advanced model available. Tao Ran had invested heavily in purchasing it for the hospital three months prior. It was the only one of its kind in all of T City, while H City had none.
Only one option remained. Tao Ran steeled herself and said, “How about I stay here with you?”
Tang Fuzhi looked up in surprise, her grip on Tao Ran’s collar tightening slightly. “Really?”
Before Tao Ran could answer, Tang Fuzhi’s voice dropped again. After a moment, she rallied her spirits and straightened Tao Ran’s rumpled collar.
“Never mind. He Ruo said it’s urgent. Work comes first.”
Tao Ran’s arm around her waist tightened, pulling them closer. Her voice deepened. “Nothing is more important than you. I can have someone else handle this.”
These words were just meant to comfort Tang Fuzhi. If someone else could handle it, He Ruo wouldn’t be so frantic.
Tang Fuzhi pushed Tao Ran away, hopped off her lap, and pulled Tao Ran to her feet, her smile returning. “Don’t lie to me. It must be something important.”
Seeing Tao Ran about to protest, Tang Fuzhi stood on tiptoe and pressed a kiss to her lips.
For the first time, Tao Ran didn’t chase after her for another kiss.
The girl stood with her back to the floor-to-ceiling window, sunlight bathing her in a golden glow. Her smile outshone even the sun, dazzling and impossible to look away from.
“Don’t worry about me,” she said, taking Tao Ran’s hand and leading her toward the small room in the office. Her voice was as gentle as if she were soothing a child. “Like you said, we can video call every day after work. I can share everything that happened with you.”
Entering the room again, Tang Fuzhi finally understood why it was so well-stocked with clothes. It had everything from underwear to shoes and socks, and even a suitcase tucked away in a corner of the closet.
Having lost her memories, Tang Fuzhi wasn’t sure how to pack for someone else. So she simply packed Tao Ran’s clothes in the order she usually used them herself, one item at a time.
Tao Ran stood behind her, watching her clumsy attempts at folding clothes. A warm feeling washed over her.
It was like seeing the old Tang Fuzhi again. The old Tang Fuzhi used to pack her luggage whenever she had to go on business trips, always slipping a few candies into her suitcase as a reminder to take them if she got a headache.
The young woman was folding clothes for the first time, relying solely on instinct. The resulting folds were a bit messy and awkward.
Perhaps because she was overthinking it, the small suitcase quickly filled to bursting.
Tang Fuzhi glanced down at her overstuffed suitcase, her expression troubled.
She turned to Tao Ran, still clutching a bag of freshly folded clothes in her arms. Her amber eyes were filled with helplessness. “Tao Ran, it’s completely full.”
