I Got A Girlfriend After Losing My Memory (Transmigration) - Chapter 22
Tang Fuzhi paused, clearly surprised by Tao Ran’s question. She glanced down and tugged at her comfortable sweatpants. “You’re the one going to work, not me.”
The outfit might have looked plain, but the material was incredibly comfortable, perfect for lounging at home.
Tao Ran was momentarily speechless. She finally sighed, ruffled Tang Fuzhi’s hair, and pulled a hair tie from her pocket to tie it up.
After tying her hair, Tao Ran led Tang Fuzhi by the hand to the dining table, urging her to eat breakfast.
“This is Xu Rujia. From now on, when I’m not around, she’ll be with you.”
Tang Fuzhi glanced at the girl before her again. Though she wanted to trust Tao Ran, the girl looked like a total softie.
If danger struck, who would protect whom was anyone’s guess.
Noticing Tang Fuzhi’s gaze, Xu Rujia’s smile grew even sweeter, her round cheeks looking irresistibly pinchable.
She straightened into a crisp military posture, surprisingly perfect. “Good morning, Madam Boss! I’m Xu Rujia, Xu Xian’s Xu, Ru from ‘if,’ and Jia from ‘commendation’!”
Tang Fuzhi blushed slightly at the title.
Tao Ran chuckled softly beside her, earning a glare from Tang Fuzhi. She rubbed her nose, suppressing her grin.
“Just call me by my name, or Tang Tang is fine too.”
Xu Rujia glanced at Tao Ran. Though Tao Ran gave no explicit signal, as an excellent employee, she naturally understood her boss’s unspoken wishes.
She snapped to attention and declared loudly, “Yes, Madam Boss!”
Tao Ran mentally vowed to give Xu Rujia a raise as soon as they got back.
Seeing Xu Rujia’s unwavering formality, Tang Fuzhi shot another glare at Tao Ran.
“Oh, have you eaten breakfast yet? Want some more?”
Xu Rujia grinned, patting her head. “I already ate on the way, but if you can’t finish yours, Madam Boss, I can always eat a bit more.”
The three of them sat down for breakfast together. Tao Ran was about to leave for work and, before leaving, she turned to Tang Fuzhi for a goodbye kiss.
Tang Fuzhi glanced at the newly arrived Xu Rujia and playfully punched Tao Ran. “Someone’s here.”
Soft… so soft, and it looks like it would feel amazing to touch, Tang Fuzhi thought dreamily.
Tao Ran glanced at Xu Rujia, who immediately understood. She gave a thumbs-up and said, “President Tao, Madam Boss, just pretend I’m not here. No need to be shy, heh heh.”
With remarkable tact, she turned her back to the couple.
This deliberate gesture only made Tang Fuzhi even more embarrassed. She pouted and pushed Tao Ran toward the door. “Alright, hurry to work now. Don’t be late.”
Tao Ran knew Tang Fuzhi was easily flustered, but the thought of being apart for several hours still tugged at her heart.
Their week of intimacy had only whetted her appetite.
She reached out and grasped Tang Fuzhi’s wrist, which felt as soft and boneless as silk. “You little ingrate,” she teased affectionately.
If the mountain won’t come to me, I’ll go to the mountain.
Tao Ran pressed a kiss to Tang Fuzhi’s forehead before reluctantly leaving home.
After seeing Tao Ran off, Tang Fuzhi touched her forehead, as if still feeling the warmth of Tao Ran’s kiss.
Then she turned her back to the door, her heart bursting with joy.
Yes! Tao Ran’s finally gone!
Though Tao Ran had been genuinely good to her, the rare taste of freedom felt different after being suppressed for so long.
Hearing the door close, Xu Rujia guessed Tao Ran had left and turned around, meeting Tang Fuzhi’s gaze.
At that moment, Tang Fuzhi’s face still wore a radiant smile.
Catching Xu Rujia’s questioning look, Tang Fuzhi cleared her throat, trying to hide her excitement.
“You’re Xu Rujia, right?”
Xu Rujia nodded sweetly, her smile bright. “You can call me Jia Jia.”
Having finally escaped Tao Ran’s constraints, Tang Fuzhi’s first instinct was to go out and play. But…
She glanced at the obedient-looking Xu Rujia before her, unsure whether Tao Ran had sent her purely to protect her or for some other purpose.
She ventured a probing question: “Jia Jia, did Tao Ran give you any other tasks besides protecting me?”
Tang Fuzhi was a little nervous.
Xu Rujia, however, considered the matter earnestly. Noticing Tang Fuzhi’s increasingly anxious expression, she couldn’t help but chuckle.
Tang Fuzhi looked puzzled, unsure what was so funny.
“Madam Boss, don’t worry,” Xu Rujia said with a smile. “President Tao only has one requirement: to ensure your safety. Everything else is up to you.”
Xu Rujia’s smile was utterly charming, revealing her small, adorable fangs. She looked every bit the soft, approachable girl.
Tang Fuzhi finally relaxed, retrieved a card from her room, and emerged. “Let’s go out and have some fun!”
Having been under Tao Ran’s strict supervision lately, Tang Fuzhi felt a rebellious streak stirring within her.
Yet she always found it difficult to refuse Tao Ran, especially since everything Tao Ran did was for her own good.
But now things were different. With Tao Ran gone, this was her domain, and she could do whatever she pleased.
Xu Rujia didn’t hesitate. Getting paid to go out and have fun? She was all in!
As the two happily descended the stairs, they encountered Grandma Zhang in the elevator.
Seeing Tang Fuzhi approach, Grandma Zhang’s eyes lit up with a warm smile. “Tang Tang, your leg is all better now?”
After a week of getting acquainted, Tang Fuzhi had grown quite fond of Grandma Zhang.
This time, her response was far more confident than their first awkward meeting. She smiled. “Yes, it’s almost completely healed.”
Grandma Zhang, her vision a bit blurry with age, squinted at Xu Rujia several times before confirming she was a stranger. Hesitantly, she asked, “And this young lady is…?”
“This is my friend, Xu Rujia,” Tang Fuzhi introduced them in her soft, sweet voice. “Jia Jia, this is our neighbor, Grandma Zhang.”
Xu Rujia, ever quick on her feet, immediately greeted her with a cheerful, “Hello, Grandma Zhang!”
Who could resist such a sweet and well-mannered girl, especially when two of them were standing before her? Grandma Zhang’s eyes crinkled with a smile. “Where are you two off to?”
Tang Fuzhi replied with a smile, “We’re going shopping.”
Grandma Zhang nodded repeatedly. “That’s good! You should get out more. Staying cooped up at home all day isn’t healthy.”
As the elevator arrived, Tang Fuzhi waved goodbye to Grandma Zhang, with Xu Rujia following suit. “We’re off now, Grandma Zhang! Bye-bye!”
“Eh, bye-bye!”
Out on the town, Xu Rujia finally got to put her bodyguard skills to use in her first side gig:
Part-time driver.
After adjusting her seat, Xu Rujia glanced at Tang Fuzhi in the rearview mirror and asked, “Madam Boss, where are we headed?”
Tang Fuzhi’s lips twitched at the “Madam Boss” title. Half-commanding, she said, “Don’t call me that when we’re out. Just call me by my name.”
This nickname was really strange.
Anyone who didn’t know better would think she was about to rob someone.
Xu Rujia tentatively suggested, “Then can I call you Tang Tang?”
Tang Fuzhi’s face immediately lit up with a radiant smile. “That’s more like it!”
When it came to going out, Tang Fuzhi had no memory and no idea where to find good clothes, so she let Xu Rujia decide.
The two of them used Tao Ran’s credit card to swipe through a dozen beautiful outfits.
Back at the office, Tao Ran had barely settled into her workday when the bank notifications started flooding in, one after another.
Tao Ran glanced at the notifications and could immediately picture how much fun Tang Fuzhi was having.
She muttered under her breath, “Little ingrate.”
Her fingers traced circles on her phone screen.
Is she really this happy without me?
The thought of Tang Fuzhi having so much fun with Xu Rujia still stung a little.
The more she looked at the notifications, the more she wanted to snatch that little ingrate back, hold her close, and keep her from smiling so brightly at anyone else.
But that was just a fleeting thought. She knew she couldn’t cling too tightly in a relationship; she needed to give Tang Fuzhi some personal space.
After all, fate had finally given her this chance to have Tang Fuzhi back in her life. She couldn’t rush things this time.
After browsing the mall, Tang Fuzhi settled into a restaurant, half-reclining in her chair, feeling both physically and mentally relaxed.
Yet she sensed something was missing.
Xu Rujia, mimicking Tang Fuzhi’s posture, leaned back and marveled at her good fortune. Getting paid to shop, with the Madam Boss covering all expenses?
Where else could you find a job like this?
The waiter quickly brought the menu. Tang Fuzhi’s eyes immediately landed on the crab section.
Though it wasn’t crab season yet, some restaurants still offered it if you were willing to pay.
Seeing the crab instantly reminded Tang Fuzhi of her meal with Tao Ran the previous day.
Come to think of it, even though I kept saying I wasn’t satisfied with that huge pot of crab, I ended up eating most of it. Tao Ran patiently peeled the shells for me the whole time, without a single complaint.
Noticing Tang Fuzhi’s dazed expression, Xu Rujia instinctively waved a hand in front of her face. “What’s wrong?”
Tang Fuzhi closed the menu and placed her hand over her left chest, where her heart was pounding.
After a long moment, she finally realized what was missing.
She looked up at Xu Rujia, her voice soft yet resolute. “I think… I might be missing Tao Ran a little.”
Now that she was completely relaxed, Tang Fuzhi realized she missed Tao Ran.
Though they had only known each other for a little over a week in her memory, Tao Ran had become the entirety of her current world.
Her heart told her she wanted to see Tao Ran, desperately.
She wanted to see her right now.
Xu Rujia’s teeth ached.
The nauseating stench of romance.
“Do you know where Tao Ran’s company is?”
Xu Rujia nodded. She wasn’t aware of Tang Fuzhi’s amnesia, but as a professional bodyguard, she knew to ask few questions and focus on action.
With Xu Rujia’s confirmation, Tang Fuzhi immediately wanted to go to the company to see Tao Ran. Fortunately, Xu Rujia stopped her in time.
“It’s lunchtime now. Shouldn’t you finish eating first?”
Tang Fuzhi shook her head. This was the longest she had been apart from Tao Ran.
Like a newborn chick, Tao Ran was the first person she had seen when she opened her eyes, and the one who had been by her side ever since she woke up.
