I Got A Girlfriend After Losing My Memory (Transmigration) - Chapter 20
Tao Ran’s earlier anxiety gradually dissolved as Tang Fuzhi’s words unfolded.
Leaning closer, Tao Ran’s lips curved into a mischievous grin, a hint of youthful recklessness in her expression. “So you like me that much, huh?”
Tang Fuzhi’s cheeks flushed crimson. She shoved Tao Ran away, flustered.
“That’s not true!”
Why does this feel like I’m confessing to Tao Ran?
It’s just that she happens to fit my type.
That’s all it is.
As noon approached, the summer breeze carried a hint of heat. It rustled through Tao Ran’s long hair and brushed against Tang Fuzhi’s neck, tickling her skin.
Before her, Tao Ran’s smiling face drew Tang Fuzhi’s lips into an involuntary curve.
Tao Ran gently stroked Tang Fuzhi’s hair, then bent down before her, placing one hand over her heart and extending the other with a perfectly polite gesture.
“I wonder if I might have the honor of inviting you to dine, Miss Tang.”
She had always known how to coax Tang Fuzhi.
Tang Fuzhi nearly burst out laughing, but she managed to restrain herself. She placed her hand in Tao Ran’s palm, tilting her chin slightly upward with a hint of haughty pretense.
“Seeing how sincere you are, I suppose I’ll reluctantly agree.”
Tao Ran took her hand, her fingertips brushing against the back of Tang Fuzhi’s hand. She stopped when Tang Fuzhi gave her a playful glare.
As they walked, Tao Ran carefully observed Tang Fuzhi’s expression. After a long silence, she finally asked, “What did you two talk about inside?”
Tang Fuzhi immediately recognized the hidden meaning behind the probing question.
She turned to look at Tao Ran beside her.
The woman was trying hard to appear nonchalant, but it was a poor act. Her rosy lips were pressed into a thin line, betraying her nervousness.
Without even realizing it, Tao Ran slightly tightened her grip on Tang Fuzhi’s hand. It wasn’t painful, just a gentle pressure Tang Fuzhi could easily tolerate.
Tang Fuzhi found it a little amusing. She gazed at the roadside flowers and plants, deliberately avoiding a direct answer. “What would I even talk to her about? I have amnesia, remember? I don’t even know her.”
She felt Tao Ran’s hand tighten again, just a fraction more.
Tao Ran remained silent, afraid that if she spoke, she wouldn’t be able to control her emotions.
After a long moment, she finally said in a low voice, “But… I want to know.”
Tao Ran stopped walking, turning to face Tang Fuzhi. Her gaze was unwavering, even a little serious.
This was the first time Tang Fuzhi had ever seen Tao Ran look at her with such intensity.
She realized Tao Ran must really care, deeply.
What do you do when you tease your girlfriend too much? You apologize and make it up to her, of course.
After all, Tao Ran was so deeply in love with her, so much so that she felt utterly insecure. But there was nothing Tang Fuzhi couldn’t tell Guo Qingyu.
Tang Fuzhi stood on tiptoe, leaning slightly forward, and kissed Tao Ran on the lips as her eyes widened in surprise.
It was broad daylight, and Tang Fuzhi was naturally shy, so it was just a brief touch of lips, nothing more.
With a playful smile, her eyes sparkling with springlike warmth, Tang Fuzhi said, “Alright, I won’t tease you anymore.”
“She suddenly stopped me. Since I didn’t recognize her, I asked if she was looking for you.”
“Then she blurted out, ‘Are you and Tao Ran… together?’ It’s strange, considering we’ve been together for four years. She acted like she was just finding out, completely shocked.”
Tao Ran felt like she was being coaxed. The lingering scent of white tea still clung to her lips, that soft touch never growing tiresome. She raised an eyebrow. “That’s all she said?”
Tang Fuzhi nodded. “We’re not close. What else would we talk about?”
Something in Tang Fuzhi’s words seemed to strike a chord with Tao Ran. Her smile returned as she ruffled Tang Fuzhi’s hair, affirming her words. “Exactly. We’re not close at all.”
Tang Fuzhi shook off Tao Ran’s hand, readjusting her hairstyle. “If you keep touching it like that, my hair will look messy.”
Her hair was already a bit disheveled from the roller coaster ride.
But she had styled it specially to commemorate her first “trip away from home,” curling her long locks with a curling iron. No wonder Zheng Xiaoxiao had thought they were going on a date.
Tao Ran draped an arm casually over Tang Fuzhi’s shoulder. “Who did your hair?”
Tang Fuzhi instinctively averted her gaze.
Whenever she felt guilty, she would put on an innocent act, pretending she had no idea what was going on.
After all, she had amnesia. It was perfectly normal for her not to know how to use a curling iron.
Besides, what if she burned herself?
That thing got so hot! A burn would hurt terribly, and it might even leave a scar!
How could she let someone who knew nothing about it handle such a dangerous tool?
It was too risky!
Tang Fuzhi defended herself vehemently, even though she knew that even if she did know how to use a curling iron, she probably wouldn’t bother. It was just too much trouble.
Tao Ran, familiar with Tang Fuzhi’s personality, chuckled softly and dropped the subject.
The crab restaurant wasn’t far, and they soon arrived.
Although they had come specifically for crabs, Tang Fuzhi had only recently been discharged from the hospital. Crabs are considered a cold food, so while she could eat them, she needed to limit her portion.
Tao Ran judiciously ordered six crabs, then added two or three other dishes before setting down the menu.
From the moment they entered the restaurant, Tang Fuzhi’s mouth had been watering at the aroma of crabs. Her round eyes kept darting toward the crab piles on other tables, nearly every diner had a small mountain of crab “corpses” in front of them.
I’m so hungry, she thought.
Watching her so eagerly, anyone would think Tao Ran had been mistreating her.
Tao Ran chuckled softly, pulling out a tissue and handing it to Tang Fuzhi. “Wipe your drool.”
Tang Fuzhi reflexively wiped her mouth, then realized what Tao Ran had said. She glared at her, her voice a little fierce. “You’re laughing at me!”
“I’m not laughing. I just think you look adorable like this.”
Tang Fuzhi wasn’t a three-year-old. She didn’t believe Tao Ran’s “adorable” act for a second. She’s totally laughing at me, she thought, immediately turning the tables. “It’s all your fault!”
Now it was Tao Ran’s turn to be confused. She tilted her head, her long hair sliding from her shoulder to her chest, her amber eyes meeting Tang Fuzhi’s with genuine sincerity.
“How is it my fault?”
Tang Fuzhi huffed twice, venting her dissatisfaction, and began to blame Tao Ran. “It’s all because your cooking is so bland! This whole week, I’ve practically turned into plain water.”
Plain water with absolutely no flavor.
This was hardly fair to Tao Ran.
While Tao Ran’s cooking couldn’t rival that of a five-star chef, it had a comforting, home-cooked taste that was actually quite delicious.
However, for Tao Ran’s health, the past week’s meals had been mostly mild and nourishing, with soup at every meal and various types of bok choy daily. Meat was included for protein, but chili peppers were kept to a minimum.
Tang Fuzhi met Tao Ran’s teasing gaze and knew she was being unreasonable. Her eyes flickered guiltily.
Just then, the crabs finally arrived.
From the moment the crabs appeared, Tang Fuzhi’s eyes never left them.
The aroma of chili peppers and minced garlic mingled in the air. Each crab was visibly large and substantial, radiating freshness.
A massive basin overflowing with crimson crabs made her mouth water instantly.
Tang Fuzhi swallowed hard, grabbed a disposable glove, and began cracking open a crab.
She had barely touched it when she yelped and dropped it, her hand burning.
“Ssss—” So hot! So hot!
Tao Ran seized her hand, peeled off the disposable glove, and asked with genuine concern, “Are you okay?”
The little girl’s delicate fingers were slightly red from the burn, the redness quite noticeable.
Tang Fuzhi withdrew her hand and grabbed another disposable glove, saying nonchalantly, “It’s nothing, just a quick sting from the heat. It doesn’t hurt anymore.”
The main reason was her impatience. She had tried to peel the crab directly and burned herself on the hot meat inside.
Tao Ran knew Tang Fuzhi’s personality well. She was terrified of pain, so if it had been a serious burn, she wouldn’t have tried to hide it. Tao Ran breathed a sigh of relief.
“No one’s going to steal your crab. What’s the rush?”
Tang Fuzhi grinned and picked up another crab. This time, she was smarter, placing her fingers on the cooler parts like the claws.
Having learned her lesson, she carefully peeled the shell, even though she was eager to eat. The crab meat, infused with garlic and a hint of spice, melted in her mouth. The tender flesh made her close her eyes in satisfaction.
So delicious!
How could anything taste this good?!
Tang Fuzhi decided to temporarily place crab at the top of her personal “Most Delicious Foods” list.
Just as she opened her eyes, ready to crack open a claw, a pair of slender fingers in disposable gloves appeared before her. A perfectly peeled crab was placed in her bowl, deliberately dipped in the savory broth.
