I Got A Girlfriend After Losing My Memory (Transmigration) - Chapter 11
A flicker of amusement danced in Tao Ran’s eyes. She knew Tang Fuzhi would agree, but she kept her expression carefully neutral, not wanting to appear too eager.
Suppressing her smile, Tao Ran looked at Tang Fuzhi with feigned concern. “Won’t this affect your sleep?”
After a moment of deliberate hesitation, Tao Ran reached out and covered the back of Tang Fuzhi’s hand, gently trying to pry it away. Her beautiful peach blossom eyes drooped slightly, conveying a hint of melancholy. “Maybe we should forget about it. I don’t want to force you.”
Tang Fuzhi froze, surprised by the rejection. Instinctively, she tightened her grip and blurted out, “I’m not being forced.”
Never one for smooth words, Tang Fuzhi struggled to persuade Tao Ran. After a moment’s thought, she decided to demonstrate her resolve through action.
She snatched the laptop from Tao Ran’s hands, tucked it under the covers, and then sprawled across it, physically blocking Tao Ran’s access.
Tao Ran chuckled inwardly, but her face remained a picture of reluctant acquiescence.
Tang Fuzhi sighed in relief, sensing something was off but unable to pinpoint it. If I can’t figure it out, I won’t bother thinking about it, she reasoned. She had always avoided straining her mind with unnecessary puzzles.
Tao Ran moved to the other side of the bed and reached for her laptop, but Tang Fuzhi instinctively pressed down on it with her body. “Didn’t you say you weren’t leaving?”
The unexpected contact startled Tao Ran. Tang Fuzhi’s soft hand covered the back of her own, causing Tao Ran’s earlobes to flush faintly. Her beautiful peach blossom eyes glanced at Tang Fuzhi, who looked back with a puzzled expression.
Tao Ran lowered her gaze to their hands. Tang Fuzhi’s back was slightly arched, and the thin nightgown she wore after her shower revealed glimpses of the scenery beneath.
Tang Fuzhi never wore a bra to bed, a habit that even amnesia couldn’t erase. In this intimate setting, the person causing such a stir simply blinked her amber eyes, her expression innocent and slightly confused, as if wondering why Tao Ran was acting so strangely.
Tao Ran took a deep breath, struggling to suppress the tingling in her hand. “I’m not leaving. I just need to stay and handle some work matters.”
Hearing the answer she wanted, Tang Fuzhi finally relaxed, a smile blooming on her face as she released the laptop and Tao Ran’s hand.
Watching Tao Ran’s slender, pale fingers land on the white laptop, Tang Fuzhi could still feel the lingering warmth of those fingers on her chest. Only then did she realize how absurd her earlier actions had been.
A loud boom rang in Tang Fuzhi’s ears, her cheeks flushing crimson instantly. Yet she had to pretend nothing had happened.
Tang Fuzhi sat rigidly upright, her back ramrod straight. She opened the book beside her, feigning deep concentration, but her mind kept replaying the earlier incident.
If Tang Fuzhi hadn’t noticed, Tao Ran might have let it go. But seeing her trembling so nervously, Tao Ran couldn’t resist teasing her.
Tao Ran threw back the covers and lay down beside Tang Fuzhi, reaching over to flip the book upside down and gently placing it back. She chuckled softly, “You’re holding it upside down.”
Tang Fuzhi nodded woodenly, her gaze returning to the pages. Despite the dense text and illustrations, none of it registered in her mind. Her heart pounded faster, all her attention focused on Tao Ran.
As the keyboard clicks began, Tang Fuzhi stole a glance at Tao Ran beside her. Seeing her seemingly engrossed in work, Tang Fuzhi’s stiff shoulders finally relaxed. But the next moment, Tao Ran’s voice broke the silence.
“Feels good.”
Tang Fuzhi froze instantly. Had Tao Ran really said that?
She glanced at Tao Ran, who remained in the same position, her eyes reflecting the glow of the computer screen. Even her casual attire couldn’t diminish her sharp, professional aura; she looked every bit the corporate elite, not at all like someone who would make such a teasing remark.
For a moment, Tang Fuzhi doubted her own ears.
I must have misheard, she thought.
How could Tao Ran say something like that?
She looks so focused on her work.
Sensing Tang Fuzhi’s gaze, Tao Ran turned her head, her eyes curving into a smile. “You didn’t mishear me.”
Tang Fuzhi quickly averted her eyes, staring blankly at the diagrams in her book, trying to pretend she hadn’t heard.
It was her usual tactic.
Tao Ran’s lips curled into a silent smile as she resumed her work.
The past few days had been hectic at the office due to Tang Fuzhi’s awakening, leaving a backlog of unfinished tasks. Now that they were sharing a bed, Tao Ran couldn’t afford to work late into the night.
As the night deepened, the heat on Tang Fuzhi’s face gradually faded. She became increasingly engrossed in her book, oblivious to the passage of time.
Tao Ran glanced out the window. The sky was a vast expanse of black, punctuated by a few stubbornly twinkling stars. She turned her gaze to Tang Fuzhi, whose long, delicate eyelashes fluttered like tiny fans. Her pert nose and rosy lips looked irresistibly kissable.
Amber eyes remained fixed on the book, as if it held infinite wonders.
Tao Ran checked her phone.
11:49 PM
It was already late. She reached out to take the book from Tang Fuzhi’s hands, but Tang Fuzhi, completely absorbed in her reading, resisted.
Her fingertips, white from gripping the book tightly, remained glued to the page.
Tao Ran sighed. “It’s late. You should be sleeping.”
Tang Fuzhi instinctively softened her voice, her tone sweet and pleading. “Just let me finish this page? It’ll be quick, I promise.”
Seeing Tang Fuzhi’s persistence, her eyes never leaving the page even as she spoke, Tao Ran relented. “Just one page.”
She devoured the page in under two minutes, and just as she was about to turn the page, Tao Ran stopped her.
With a swift, decisive motion, Tao Ran closed the book and placed it in the bedside table. “You said one page. Now it’s time for bed.”
Tang Fuzhi, clearly dissatisfied, finally tore her gaze from the book. She grabbed Tao Ran’s arm and shook it playfully. “But I can’t sleep!”
“You haven’t even tried to sleep yet,” Tao Ran retorted, not believing a word Tang Fuzhi said. She firmly tucked Tang Fuzhi under the covers.
Completely ignoring Tang Fuzhi’s wide, watery eyes, Tao Ran’s resolve remained unshaken.
She knew Tang Fuzhi’s stubborn nature all too well. If she gave in and let her keep reading, without setting boundaries, they’d be up all night.
Tang Fuzhi had only recently been discharged from the hospital, and her body was still weak. She couldn’t afford to stay up late.
Tang Fuzhi grumbled, but she knew Tao Ran was only looking out for her. She let out a soft huff to vent her frustration and silently pulled the covers over herself.
After a moment, perhaps feeling she looked too submissive, she turned her back to Tao Ran, attempting to express her resistance through action.
Tao Ran chuckled softly, leaning closer to Tang Fuzhi until her shallow breaths brushed against her cheek. Tang Fuzhi instinctively recoiled, stepping back. “What are you doing?”
“A goodnight kiss,” Tao Ran replied, her gaze lifting, her expression unwavering as she lied. “We used to kiss goodnight every night before bed.”
