I Fall Every Time I Meet an Alpha [Transmigrated into a Book] - Chapter 42
“Stop following me,” Zhong Xiaoxiao didn’t want Meng Yuqing trailing after her, it was beyond annoying, acting all familiar like that. Were they even close? “My mom told me not to interact with you.”
“Did your mom really say that?” Meng Yuqing looked at her and asked, “But do you want to interact with me?”
“No.” Zhong Xiaoxiao turned and walked away. “Don’t follow me anymore.”
“…” Seeing how much Zhong Xiaoxiao disliked her, Meng Yuqing had no choice but to stop.
When Zhong Xiaoxiao confirmed Meng Yuqing wasn’t following her anymore, she hurried to the academic office to collect the test papers. The office was on the third floor of another building, a long and tedious trip. Sure, Zhong Xiaoxiao was the class monitor, but she later discovered she was also the English class representative. Good grief! The protagonist sure knew how to make life difficult. Couldn’t she just be an ordinary student? Now she was stuck doing all this extra work!
Zhong Xiaoxiao hastily grabbed the test papers and a stack of homework notebooks. By the time she returned to the main teaching building, the class bell had already rung.
Ugh, if only there were an elevator here. Whoosh, straight up in seconds.
What kind of wealthy school doesn’t install elevators?!
Resentment bubbled up inside Zhong Xiaoxiao as she stared at the stairs leading to the fifth floor, feeling utterly hopeless.
No choice but to climb. Huffing and puffing, she began her ascent.
Just as she reached the fourth floor and was about to continue upward, someone suddenly blocked her path. Zhong Xiaoxiao, head down, sensed the obstruction and tried to sidestep, only for the person to block her again.
What the—?! She looked up and saw a tall, well-built boy and a slender girl standing in her way, a handsome pair, perfectly matched.
What was this? Did they own the stairs? One blocking each side!
“Uh, excuse me, could you let me pass…?” Zhong Xiaoxiao spoke awkwardly.
The boy was good-looking, though a bit tanned, and remained silent, his expression blank. The girl, however, smiled sweetly and said, “What if I don’t?”
Not only did she refuse to move, but she also leaned forward, reached out, and snatched the test papers and homework notebooks from Zhong Xiaoxiao’s hands then tossed them down the stairs.
What the—?!?!
Zhong Xiaoxiao watched helplessly as the papers scattered in the wind, some even flying off the balcony, disappearing who-knows-where.
“What are you doing?!” she snapped, furious. She was certain she hadn’t offended them, why were they picking on her?!
“Gan Qingyun told us to do this. Take it up with her,” the girl said with a smirk.
Gan Qingyun?
If it was Gan Qingyun, then there was some history. Zhong Xiaoxiao quickly pieced it together, this was definitely a case of love turning to spite. But instead of confronting the guy who changed his mind, they were targeting her, an innocent bystander! How infuriating! Was it a crime to be liked?!
“Alright, we’re heading back to class now,” the girl said, waving cheerfully. “See you around~”
See you never! Zhong Xiaoxiao glared at their retreating backs, cursing them inwardly.
The two left, leaving her with a huge mess to clean up. She was seething.
She wanted to go home.
Screw this!
But if she just walked away and left the homework notebooks to be trampled, she’d become public enemy number one by tomorrow.
Grinding her teeth, Zhong Xiaoxiao stomped downstairs to gather the scattered papers and notebooks.
Homework books lay strewn across the steps, some here, some there. The test papers were equally scattered. As she picked them up, her anger only grew.
The classroom was filled with the teacher’s lecture and the sound of students reading aloud. Zhong Xiaoxiao was anxious but had no choice but to patiently pick up all the scattered papers.
A few test papers had blown downstairs, and she had to go down to retrieve them!
Zhong Xiaoxiao felt like murdering someone.
Picking up the papers was bad enough, but what was she supposed to do when they got soaked by water on the ground?!
In the end, Zhong Xiaoxiao returned to the classroom like a refugee, her face as dark as a pot.
This was an English class where the teacher had assigned self-study with test papers. The papers were nowhere to be seen for the longest time, and the classmates were on the verge of rebellion.
“Class rep, where have you been? You disappeared for ages.”
“Yeah, making us wait forever.”
“Can you hurry up? You’re wasting our time.”
…
The complaints kept coming as Zhong Xiaoxiao gritted her teeth and handed out the papers.
“Hey, why is my test paper so dirty?”
“Class rep, where did you pick these up from? They’re covered in dust!”
“You don’t like this one, huh?” Zhong Xiaoxiao snatched his paper back and handed him a dripping-wet one instead.
“Ah, no! I think a little dust is fine, I’ll take the dusty one!”
The classroom buzzed with noise as everyone voiced their dissatisfaction, some complaining about dirty papers, others about Zhong Xiaoxiao being too slow.
“Quiet.” The class monitor spoke up.
The voices died down a little, though murmurs of complaint still lingered.
Zhong Xiaoxiao returned to her seat. Her test paper, Meng Yuzhou’s, and Meng Yuqing’s were all wet. In critical moments, she ended up taking advantage of those closest to her because they were more forgiving.
Zhong Xiaoxiao took a deep breath and wiped the water stains off her paper with a tissue.
Meng Yuzhou looked at the damp test paper on his desk but said nothing, silently drying it with a tissue.
Behind her, Meng Yuqing stared blankly at her own wet paper, wondering what had happened to Zhong Xiaoxiao in such a short time to leave her in such a sorry state.
Naturally, Zhong Xiaoxiao was seething inside.
Should she confront Gan Qingyun? But Gan Qingyun hadn’t done it. Should she go after those two instead? That seemed a bit beyond her capabilities. Could her small frame really take on those two? The girl was even taller than her!
But if she just let it go, she couldn’t swallow her anger.
So annoying.
Why couldn’t things just be peaceful? Why was there always so much drama?!
Was the female lead some kind of trouble magnet? Not a single day went smoothly!
Meng Yuqing picked up on Zhong Xiaoxiao’s internal monologue and got the gist of it. Gan Qingyun again? No not Gan Qingyun directly, but two people acting on Gan Qingyun’s orders. Who were they?
