I Fall Every Time I Meet an Alpha [Transmigrated into a Book] - Chapter 41
This was a one-sided revelry, while the other sank into despair, gradually losing themselves…
After making love, Du Lingyan fell into a deep sleep.
Gan Qingyun dragged her exhausted body up, put on her clothes, and left the Du residence.
When she got home, she stepped into the shower, letting the water wash over her body. The marks covering her skin stung, shattering her heart into pieces. She felt filthy, unworthy of him, unworthy of anyone.
Even her soul was tainted.
Hatred festered wildly in her heart. It was all because of them they were the ones who had turned her into this. Yet they remained untouched, unscathed. Why? Why was she the only one suffering? Why?!
Tears of resentment streamed down her cheeks as she sobbed brokenly.
She swore she would make them pay. If she couldn’t have peace, neither would they…
Meng Yuzhou’s heart was wholly devoted to his sister and Zhong Xiaoxiao, nearly forgetting he even had an “ex-girlfriend.” A girl he had dated for two weeks without even holding hands to him, she was utterly insignificant.
The next time Meng Yuzhou saw Gan Qingyun was at the stairwell landing. He was heading downstairs; she was coming up.
Gan Qingyun looked up and saw the one she longed for, her heart pounding uncontrollably. She still couldn’t suppress her feelings for him. Just the sight of him made her heart race.
As she ascended, she wanted to say something, but Meng Yuzhou showed no intention of stopping and continued downward. Gan Qingyun called out to him.
Meng Yuzhou paused on the stairs, turning back to look at her, waiting for her to speak.
“You don’t look well. Are you okay?” Gan Qingyun asked.
“I’m fine,” Meng Yuzhou replied flatly. “Anything else?”
His coldness pierced her heart. She realized then, there was no place for her in his heart. None at all.
“Nothing,” Gan Qingyun forced an awkward smile.
“Qingyun~” A glamorous girl suddenly appeared, draping an arm over Gan Qingyun’s shoulders and eyeing Meng Yuzhou. “What are you two talking about?”
Under Meng Yuzhou’s gaze, Gan Qingyun stiffened, guilt creeping in. She pushed Du Lingyan away and turned coldly. “Nothing.”
As Gan Qingyun walked off, Du Lingyan turned her attention to Meng Yuzhou, who met her stare.
“She’s mine,” Du Lingyan lifted her chin, asserting her claim.
Meng Yuzhou found it laughable. Who she belonged to had nothing to do with him.
He couldn’t be bothered to respond and simply continued downstairs.
Du Lingyan watched him leave, her eyes narrowing dangerously. She knew all too well that Gan Qingyun still harbored feelings for Meng Yuzhou. Her heart had never let go. But Meng Yuzhou didn’t care for her.
Gan Qingyun, why cling to someone who doesn’t love you?
Just because he’s an Alpha, should I concede defeat?
“Meng Yuqing, stop following me. You’re so annoying.” Zhong Xiaoxiao was beyond frustrated. She turned her head, trying to shake her off, only to bump into someone. “Ah! s-sorry!” she stammered, quickly stepping back to apologize.
Du Lingyan stood still, studying her without a word. Her expression gave nothing away.
Zhong Xiaoxiao gave her a strange look. She was quite pretty, but there was something… a bit delinquent about her? The kind of rebellious girl Zhong Xiaoxiao recognized. She didn’t want to get involved in trouble and thought about just walking past her.
But then, as if Meng Yuqing had taken the wrong medicine, she stepped forward and shoved Du Lingyan, pushing her back a couple of steps. “A good dog doesn’t block the way.”
That shove was full of provocation.
Du Lingyan was taller than Meng Yuqing, but Meng Yuqing had an overwhelming presence, her arrogance blazing.
Of course, Meng Yuqing recognized her Gan Qingyun’s lackey. Last time, it was her who tried to drop a flowerpot on Zhong Xiaoxiao below.
Now that the plot had derailed like this, Du Lingyan had played her part in it too.
This unexpected troublemaker was someone even the system found detestable. It turned a blind eye to Meng Yuqing’s provocation. If anything happened, Meng Yuqing would just be punished anyway.
“Oh, quite the attitude,” Du Lingyan said, running a hand through her hair with a smirk as she stared at the two of them. “Good to see you alive.”
“Of course,” Meng Yuqing sneered. “We’ll live well just to get in your way.”
“Tch.” Du Lingyan chuckled and turned away. “We’ll see about that.”
Zhong Xiaoxiao was utterly lost listening to their exchange. It seemed related to her, yet not at the same time, completely baffling.
“You have history with her?” Zhong Xiaoxiao couldn’t help but ask.
“Yeah, big history,” Meng Yuqing replied with a grin. “If I fight her, will you back me up?”
“No,” Zhong Xiaoxiao said bluntly.
“Cheer for me, then. You really think your tiny frame could help in a fight?”
“Meng Yuqing, can’t you just behave? Why go around picking fights?” Zhong Xiaoxiao was truly exasperated with her.
“I don’t pick fights, they come to me.” Meng Yuqing glanced in the direction Du Lingyan had left, thinking to herself that this grudge was officially settled.
