I Fall Every Time I Meet an Alpha [Transmigrated into a Book] - Chapter 24
“Achoo!” Gan Qingyun sneezed when her name was mentioned.
“Did you catch a cold?” Du Lingyan casually draped her school jacket over Gan Qingyun’s shoulders. “Here, take my coat.”
The group had gone out to eat together and were now wandering the streets.
The weather was growing colder, and the streets looked bleak. Cars rushed by in a steady stream, while a chilly wind blew under heavy clouds.
But no matter how cold the weather was, it couldn’t compare to the coldness in people’s hearts.
Gan Qingyun paid no attention to Du Lingyan’s concern her mind was still fixated on what she had witnessed earlier at the school gate.
Zhong Xiaoxiao had been invited into Meng Yuzhou’s car. They looked blissfully happy together, making her, standing alone, seem all the more pitiful.
She had thought that pouring that bucket of water would leave Zhong Xiaoxiao humiliated and unable to show her face. But who knew those siblings would protect her so fiercely? It only deepened Gan Qingyun’s resentment.
Who cared that she was the victim?
Who cared that her sincere feelings had been trampled on?
Who cared that she was suffering every second of every day?
Meng Yuzhou had treated her so cruelly, trampling on her emotions. She hated him for it. Yet, she couldn’t bring herself to hurt him only the one he loved.
Seeing Gan Qingyun’s despondent expression, Du Lingyan could easily guess why.
“Don’t worry,” she promised. “Whatever you want, I’ll bring it to you.”
At last, Gan Qingyun reacted. She lifted her head and looked at her.
Just then, a strong gust of wind swept past, lifting their long hair into the air. The strands danced wildly, as if trying to entangle with each other.
Seeing her own hair blown toward Du Lingyan, Gan Qingyun instinctively tucked a loose strand behind her ear and turned away. Softly, she murmured, “I want Zhong Xiaoxiao to suffer.”
“Alright.” Du Lingyan reached out and ruffled her hair, a faint smirk curling at her lips. “As you wish.”
Standing a short distance away, Xie Baojun clenched his fists. He was a hot-blooded alpha with a dark complexion, handsome features, and piercingly bright eyes. Du Lingyan had once helped him, and from then on, he had pledged his loyalty to her. But the deeper reason for his devotion was his infatuation with her. She was a willful yet domineering omega, and every move she made was captivating.
Xie Baojun dreamed of having her.
But now, her eyes were only on Gan Qingyun, she no longer spared him a single glance.
“I don’t like Gan Qingyun,” Xie Baojun said to Li Shiting. “Let’s get rid of her.”
“But the boss seems really into her,” Li Shiting replied. Then, noticing Xie Baojun’s glare, she quickly corrected herself, “She’s pretty, in a unique way, isn’t she? Once the boss gets bored, she’ll drop her.”
“I don’t think the boss is just playing around,” Wang Sicheng chimed in obliviously. “She seems serious about pursuing her. What do you think, Fang Yu?”
“Yeah, seems like it,” Fang Yu agreed. “But whatever the boss does, it’s not like we can oppose her anyway.”
Xie Baojun’s expression darkened further. Li Shiting frantically signaled the other two with her eyes, but Wang Sicheng just blinked in confusion. “Shiting, what’s wrong with your eyes?”
“Ah, just got some dust in them,” Li Shiting said, rubbing her eyes while inwardly cursing these two idiots. Trying to placate Xie Baojun, she added, “They’re both omegas, right? If you like them both, why not have them both? Broaden your horizons a little.”
Xie Baojun was not at all pleased to hear her words. He probably just didn’t vibe with Gan Qingyun’s energy, he couldn’t appreciate the campus belle’s charm one bit. Omegas could be likable, but they could also be detestable. And he simply despised Gan Qingyun as a person. She was pretentious, affected, and downright malicious.
Xie Baojun felt intense disgust but couldn’t bully an omega just because he was stronger. All he could do was stew in his frustration.
“With her around, we’ll just keep getting bossed around by the leader to pick on people,” Xie Baojun said, trying to rally the other omegas in their group to ostracize Gan Qingyun. “Are you all really okay with taking orders from her? Who does she think she is?”
“That’s true,” Fang Yu said hesitantly. “But if the leader says so, we can’t exactly refuse.”
“Then let’s just drive her away,” Xie Baojun insisted.
Li Shiting sighed. “Honestly, I think we should just wait until the leader’s infatuation wears off. Right now, she’s being pampered, what can we even do to her?”
The other two couldn’t help but agree, leaving Xie Baojun the only one still fuming.
“They’ve been inside for a while now. Let’s head in, I’m starving.”
At the dining table,
Meng Yuqing ate her lunch while mulling over the day’s events.
When she had entered the restroom earlier, she had bumped into two girls on their way out, though she wasn’t sure if they were the culprits. The moment she heard Zhong Xiaoxiao cursing inside, her focus had shifted entirely to her. And just like that, she ended up taking the blame.
Sure, she was technically the villainess, but being framed for something she didn’t do still left her feeling wronged.
System 666: I know what you’re thinking. You’re the villainess anyway, you don’t want to do those things, so isn’t it better if someone else does them for you?
Meng Yuqing: Who did it for me?
System 666: Who else?
Meng Yuqing: You mean Gan Qingyun?
The only person Meng Yuqing could think of who had a grudge against Zhong Xiaoxiao was Gan Qingyun. Fighting over a guy, it was easy to understand.
Meng Yuqing: But Gan Qingyun wasn’t even there at the time. Did she have someone else do it?
The system remained silent, only reminding her: You can’t bully anyone except the female lead. That’s your character limitation.
Meng Yuqing: I know. But if everything gets pinned on me, won’t Zhong Xiaoxiao hate me to death?
System 666: You’re the villainess. If she doesn’t hate you, should she love you instead?
Meng Yuqing: That’s not necessary.
The reason Meng Yuqing regarded Zhong Xiaoxiao differently was simply because she knew she wasn’t from this world either and that she held the script. She couldn’t help but feel curious about her.
Curious about her personality, her world, everything about her.
Was there really no third emotion between love and hate? Something like peaceful friendship?
Being alone in a world that wasn’t hers was lonely. If someone else from another world appeared, it was only natural to want to stick together.
Of course, the system couldn’t understand these subtle human feelings, it only cared about mission completion.
Across from Meng Yuqing sat Meng Yuzhou. The siblings, each lost in their own thoughts, ate their lunch in silence, maintaining a fragile peace.
Meng Yuqing could hear Meng Yuzhou’s silent concerns for Zhong Xiaoxiao in his heart. He worried whether she was feeling better, if she was doing well at home, if she might have stomach discomfort, whether he should call to check on her, and if calling might disturb her sleep, all these trivial yet numerous thoughts.
It was clear this elder brother truly cared for Zhong Xiaoxiao, keeping her in his thoughts.
Meng Yuqing should have been happy that the male and female leads were finally returning to their original storyline. Yet she felt inexplicably unsettled. What was Zhong Xiaoxiao feeling? Did she also have feelings for the male lead?
