I Fall Every Time I Meet an Alpha [Transmigrated into a Book] - Chapter 23
By noon, Zhong Xiaoxiao finally started feeling better.
As she walked out of the school gate with the male lead, she said to him, “I’m fine now. I can just take a taxi home.”
“Let me take you. What if you faint on the way?” Meng Yuzhou looked at her with concern.
Faint on the way? If he hadn’t mentioned it, she might have been fine, but now that he did, Zhong Xiaoxiao suddenly felt dizzy. Was it psychological? It had to be psychological!
“Are you okay?” Meng Yuzhou noticed her swaying slightly and thought about steadying her, but with so many people around, he hesitated to touch her.
“I’m fine…” Zhong Xiaoxiao forced an awkward smile and steadied herself.
“I insist on taking you. Get in the car.” Meng Yuzhou’s tone was firm.
Just then, a stretch limousine pulled up in front of them. Zhong Xiaoxiao had been about to refuse, but the sight of the luxury car made her swallow her words.
Wow, she had never ridden in such a fancy car before! Wouldn’t it be a waste not to experience it at least once? Zhong Xiaoxiao figured that since she had transmigrated into this novel, getting a taste of the wealthy life wasn’t so bad. Every day, she was surrounded by new and exciting things, full of surprises.
Meng Yuzhou opened the rear door for her, and Zhong Xiaoxiao stepped inside without further protest.
The interior was like a small room, complete with a sofa, TV, fridge, snacks, and fruit. It hardly felt like a car at all. The moment she entered, it was as if she had stepped into a cozy space, and the sofa practically invited her to sit. Once the door closed, the sensation intensified, completely isolating them from the outside world. It was almost like being at home.
Zhong Xiaoxiao had assumed it would just be her and Meng Yuzhou, but Meng Yuqing had somehow slipped in unnoticed. When Zhong Xiaoxiao turned and saw her, her mood instantly soured.
Meng Yuqing, however, didn’t seem surprised to see Zhong Xiaoxiao, she had spotted them together from afar.
System 666: This was the perfect opportunity for the male and female leads to bond. Why did you have to tag along?
Meng Yuqing: I need to go home too.
System 666: You could’ve called another car.
Meng Yuqing: I’m not used to other cars.
System 666: Meng Yuqing! What exactly are you trying to do?
Meng Yuqing: Go home.
“…” The system fell silent, too exasperated to continue, and eventually shut itself off in frustration.
The atmosphere in the car grew awkward.
With three people now involved, the space suddenly felt cramped.
Zhong Xiaoxiao, who had initially been thrilled by the novelty of the luxury car, now just wanted to get out as soon as possible.
Wealth didn’t necessarily equate to happiness. Right now, sitting in this extravagant vehicle, Zhong Xiaoxiao couldn’t even muster a smile.
Meng Yuqing made her feel suffocated, a bitter resentment lodged in her chest with no way to vent.
“Would you like something to eat?” Meng Yuzhou asked Zhong Xiaoxiao with concern. She instinctively wanted to decline, but her stomach betrayed her.
A loud growl echoed through the spacious interior, unmistakably signaling hunger. Meng Yuqing couldn’t help but chuckle softly. Zhong Xiaoxiao flushed red with embarrassment, wishing she could just jump out of the car.
Meng Yuzhou handed her some snacks and a drink. “Here, have something to tide you over.”
Zhong Xiaoxiao opened a bag of chips and took a bite. The flavor was different from any she’d had before crisp, refreshing cucumber with a lingering aftertaste. Finding them delicious, she began eating without a care for the others.
The sofa was semicircular, arranged around a coffee table. Zhong Xiaoxiao sat at one end, Meng Yuzhou in the middle, and Meng Yuqing at the other. Each maintained a polite distance to avoid making the others uncomfortable.
Meng Yuqing’s gaze lingered on Zhong Xiaoxiao for two seconds before meeting her eyes. “My school uniform wash it clean and return it to me,” she said.
The moment Zhong Xiaoxiao heard Meng Yuqing’s voice, her appetite vanished. “Got it!” she replied reluctantly.
After the morning’s bout of diarrhea, Zhong Xiaoxiao was utterly exhausted too tired to even curse her in her mind. All she wanted was to go home and rest.
“How about coming to my place for dinner?” Meng Yuzhou suggested.
“Huh?” Zhong Xiaoxiao was taken aback. Go to his house? No way! Though she was curious about how luxurious his family must be, she wasn’t in the mood right now. “No, I need to go home.”
Hearing this, Meng Yuzhou had no choice but to ask the driver to take her home.
They arrived shortly. Stepping out of the comfortable car, a chilly gust of wind hit Zhong Xiaoxiao, making her shiver. Going home was definitely the right choice! She thought about changing into fresh clothes and adding an extra layer as soon as possible.
After bidding farewell to the siblings, Zhong Xiaoxiao headed inside.
Meng Yuzhou and Meng Yuqing sat together in the car, an abrupt silence settling between them.
After a long pause, Meng Yuzhou finally spoke. “What’s going on between you and Zhong Xiaoxiao? Why is she wearing your uniform?”
“Oh, hers got wet…”
“How did hers get wet?” Meng Yuzhou questioned his sister, his gaze sharp with displeasure. “I warned you, stop bullying her.”
“Bullying her?” Meng Yuqing let out a light laugh, admitting it outright. “So what if I did? What are you going to do about it?”
“I’ll have Mom and Dad send you abroad.” His tone was icy.
“Then I’ll drag you along with me,” Meng Yuqing countered, unfazed by his “threat.” “We’ve been together since we were kids. There’s no way they’d let me go alone.”
“…” Meng Yuzhou gritted his teeth, frustration burning inside him. She was right their parents would never let her go by herself. They’d insist he accompany her.
His sister had once been sweet, sensible, and endearing. But at some point, she had changed becoming domineering, unreasonable, obsessive, and possessive.
Meng Yuzhou tried to understand. Maybe their bond as siblings was too strong, making her unable to accept a third person entering their world. That was why she lashed out at anyone who got close to him.
He adored her that would never change. She would always be his beloved little sister.
But now, this beloved sister was hurting the girl he loved most.
“You’re my sister that will never change,” Meng Yuzhou said after calming himself. “I’ll always cherish you, that will never change either. But if you keep harming innocent people, I’ll have no choice but to ask Mom and Dad to take you to a psychologist.”
“You think I’m mentally ill?” Meng Yuqing looked at the boy pretending to be mature and found it almost amusing. “Is Zhong Xiaoxiao innocent? Oh, right, she is.”
“Tell me, why is she so easy to bully?”
“If kindness is a crime, then she’s guilty.”
“What kind of nonsense are you spouting?” Meng Yuzhou couldn’t hold back any longer. “How is kindness a crime? Is kindness wrong? You’re the one bullying her, yet you dare twist the truth! You must be out of your mind!”
“Not only does my brother side with an outsider, but he also says I’m crazy. How ridiculous.” Compared to Meng Yuzhou’s furious outburst, Meng Yuqing remained relatively calm. “If my brother hadn’t started dating this girlfriend, I wouldn’t have gone so mad.”
“Then tell me, why single her out for bullying? I also dated Gan Qingyun, why didn’t you bully her?”
At the mention of Gan Qingyun’s name, Meng Yuqing couldn’t help but roll her eyes. Why didn’t she bully Gan Qingyun? The system wouldn’t allow it.
