I Fall Every Time I Meet an Alpha [Transmigrated into a Book] - Chapter 25
That afternoon at school, Zhong Xiaoxiao returned Meng Yuqing’s freshly washed and dried uniform to her.
“All cleaned,” Zhong Xiaoxiao said, tossing a shopping bag containing the clothes onto her desk. After doing so, she felt like she should say thank you, but the words stuck in her throat as she remembered, she still hadn’t gotten over the whole water-dumping incident! Why should she thank her? No way!
Fuming, Zhong Xiaoxiao turned around and sat down without uttering a single word of gratitude.
Meng Yuqing watched her calmly the entire time, finding her rather amusing. Zhong Xiaoxiao’s temper, in her eyes, carried a certain charm like a beautiful, feisty Persian cat whose occasional outbursts were easily forgiven.
For Zhong Xiaoxiao, the fact that the villainess would resort to underhanded tactics wasn’t surprising. If she hadn’t interacted with her before, she would’ve assumed she was just plain awful. But after briefly teaming up against a common enemy, she realized Meng Yuqing wasn’t as bad as she’d thought.
What Zhong Xiaoxiao couldn’t wrap her head around was whether Meng Yuqing had some kind of personality disorder. How else could she flip so drastically? One day, she’s laughing and chatting with you, and the next, she dumps a bucket of ice-cold water over your head, chilling you to the bone.
Zhong Xiaoxiao had already braced herself.
This wasn’t the end, it was only the beginning.
Soon, a new wave of “persecution” arrived.
As Zhong Xiaoxiao was about to descend the stairs, someone suddenly shoved her hard from behind. Her body lurched forward, suspended in midair. “Ah!” she screamed involuntarily as she tumbled down at breakneck speed.
In that split second, Zhong Xiaoxiao was certain she was done for. She thought she heard the sickening crack of bones everything hurt, her entire body was screaming in pain. She rolled and rolled, tumbling down over a dozen steps before finally landing on the platform below.
Lying on her back, every inch of her body throbbed in agony. The world around her buzzed with noise, her mind blank. When she managed to look up, she saw Meng Yuqing standing at the top of the stairs, gazing down at her with what seemed like mocking disdain.
“…” Zhong Xiaoxiao’s eyelids grew unbearably heavy. Exhaustion overwhelmed her, and finally, they shut completely, plunging her consciousness into darkness severing her last connection to the world.
“Zhong Xiaoxiao!” Meng Yuqing, seeing her fall, immediately rushed down and scooped her up. “Zhong Xiaoxiao! Are you okay? Wake up!”
Fury burned through Meng Yuqing as she hissed at the system, This is too much are they trying to kill her? If the female lead dies, this whole world collapses, doesn’t it?!
System 666: Calm down first!
Meng Yuqing: How can I calm down?! Stop wasting time and heal her, now!
System 666: Fine, fine! No need to yell…
With the system’s intervention, Zhong Xiaoxiao’s injuries were mostly healed except for a sprained ankle.
System 666: She can’t walk away from a fall like this completely unharmed. A sprained ankle is perfect, it’ll give the male lead a chance to take care of her…
The system kept rambling, but Meng Yuqing wasn’t listening. Her focus was solely on Zhong Xiaoxiao. “Xiaoxiao, wake up!”
A crowd quickly gathered on the stairs, appearing out of nowhere to gawk at the scene.
Meng Yuzhou arrived upon hearing the news and immediately exploded at the sight. “Meng Yuqing! What the hell did you do to her this time?!”
“I…” Meng Yuqing looked at her brother, unable to defend herself. Great, another false accusation had landed on her out of nowhere!
Meng Yuzhou pushed Meng Yuqing aside, picked up Zhong Xiaoxiao, and hurried towards the infirmary.
This incident caused quite a stir, with many people anxiously following along, ready to call an ambulance. Both teachers and the grade director were alarmed, thinking something serious had happened.
After Meng Yuzhou left, Meng Yuqing quickly followed downstairs, heading for the infirmary. But after just a few steps, she suddenly sensed something and stopped, turning to look up at the building.
On the fifth-floor balcony, several pots of vibrant chrysanthemums were in bloom. Standing beside them was a stunningly beautiful girl, radiant and dazzling, effortlessly becoming the school’s most eye-catching sight. This girl was undoubtedly the campus belle.
The belle, Gan Qingyun, stood there coldly, watching the chaos below without any reaction.
Beside her stood an even taller girl with layered long hair, adorned with jewels. She casually ran her fingers through her hair, the gemstones on her hand refracting dazzling rainbow hues in the sunlight.
“Things are lively down there~” Du Lingyan chuckled, her laughter carrying a carefree tone, as if she were commenting on something amusing.
Gan Qingyun didn’t respond, only locking eyes with Meng Yuqing’s gaze from below.
“Meng Yuqing?” Du Lingyan also noticed her and remarked casually, “She seems quite interesting.”
Meng Yuqing gave them a deep, lingering look, her eyes filled with warning, coldness, and arrogance. She knew they were behind this.
On the way to the infirmary, Zhong Xiaoxiao regained consciousness. The pain in her body had lessened, except for her left foot, which throbbed terribly likely sprained.
“You’re awake?” Meng Yuzhou was relieved to see her conscious. “I’m taking you to the infirmary. Don’t worry.”
“…” Zhong Xiaoxiao stared at Meng Yuzhou, utterly confused. Why was he carrying her? But after a moment’s thought, she could guess, he must have rushed over after seeing her fall and was now taking her to the infirmary.
The memory of being pushed by Meng Yuqing filled her with hatred. The villainess was truly vicious, she had genuinely tried to kill her!
Thankfully, she hadn’t died from the fall. But what if she had?
She still hadn’t found the key to return home. If she died in this world, would she truly be gone forever?
The thought that this was an unfinished novel terrified her. Because it was fiction words on a page, something the author could alter at will. What if the writer suddenly decided to kill off the protagonist? Then she would really die.
And if she died, she could never go back.
She couldn’t just sit and wait for disaster.
After much deliberation, Zhong Xiaoxiao concluded she needed a powerful ally, someone to counterbalance Meng Yuqing. And the best candidate was none other than Meng Yuqing’s own brother, Meng Yuzhou.
Looking up at him, Zhong Xiaoxiao’s lips trembled, and she burst into pitiful sobs. “It, it was Meng Yuqing. She pushed me down. Falling from such a high staircase hurt so much, Meng Yuzhou, it really hurts, wuwu…”
Her tearful, pleading voice, laced with a hint of coquetry, tugged at Meng Yuzhou’s heart. He reassured her firmly, “Don’t worry. Even if she’s my sister, I won’t let her get away with this. I’ll make sure justice is served.”
“Maybe, we should break up?” Zhong Xiaoxiao said with tears in her eyes, her voice tinged with resentment. “Your sister doesn’t want us together. She warned me, and now things have come to this…”
Upon hearing this, Meng Yuzhou’s expression darkened. He tightened his embrace and said, “I’m sorry. I failed to protect you.”
“It’s not your fault. It’s all mine…”
“No, it’s not you. My sister went too far. I’m sorry.”
