I Fall Every Time I Meet an Alpha [Transmigrated into a Book] - Chapter 18
An affair? What nonsense. Zhong Xiaoxiao cursed silently in her heart.
So the plan was set. That afternoon, she and Meng Yuqing would go to her house and put on a little performance for Zhong Yuanyuan.
Gan Qingyun felt like no matter where she went, she kept running into people she didn’t want to see. From a distance, she saw Zhong Xiaoxiao and Meng Yuqing whispering together at the end of the hallway. It immediately made her think about how these two had plotted to make Meng Yuzhou break up with her. Bitterness filled her heart again.
Fine. If she couldn’t deal with Meng Yuqing directly, she could still go after Zhong Xiaoxiao.
Who did Zhong Xiaoxiao think she was anyway?
Gan Qingyun’s eyes focused on Zhong Xiaoxiao. The girl had her hair tied in high twin ponytails and looked small and easy to push around. She was already thinking about how to get back at her, but the right moment hadn’t come yet.
Meanwhile, Zhong Xiaoxiao returned to the classroom, still thinking about how to explain things to Meng Yuzhou.
Now that he had finally gotten what he wanted, Meng Yuzhou was in a good mood. His eyes were filled with gentle affection when he looked at her.
“This afternoon, I invited your sister to come to my house,” Zhong Xiaoxiao said hesitantly, but she decided to be honest.
“My sister?” Meng Yuzhou was surprised. He didn’t know when Zhong Xiaoxiao and his sister had gotten close enough for an invitation like that.
“Yes.” Zhong Xiaoxiao nodded quietly. “I wanted to ask her to tutor me.”
“I can tutor you too.”
“You’re not exactly the best option,” Zhong Xiaoxiao said quickly. “My mom will be home.”
“Oh.” As soon as he heard that her mother would be there, Meng Yuzhou gave up the idea. He knew it wouldn’t be appropriate to be alone with Zhong Xiaoxiao in her house.
“My math isn’t very good, so I just thought she could help me with that.”
Meng Yuzhou didn’t object, though he remained a little confused. “When did you two become so friendly?” His sister used to give Zhong Xiaoxiao a hard time. Were they really getting along now?
“She’s your sister, after all.” Zhong Xiaoxiao looked a little helpless, as if she were only doing it out of respect for him.
Meng Yuzhou understood what she meant and smiled warmly. “Alright. But if she gives you any trouble, you have to tell me.”
“I will,” Zhong Xiaoxiao replied softly.
With that settled, she let out a quiet sigh of relief.
That afternoon, Zhong Xiaoxiao left school with the Meng siblings. She called a ride, said goodbye to Meng Yuzhou, and left with Meng Yuqing.
Gan Qingyun and Du Lingyan followed behind and saw Meng Yuzhou standing there. Seeing him still made Gan Qingyun’s heart ache. But when she remembered the harsh words he had said, she stopped herself from walking over to him.
Du Lingyan put an arm around her shoulder. “Want to go watch a movie together?”
Gan Qingyun was starting to feel tired of hanging out with this group. But she still needed Du Lingyan’s help, so she went along with it. “Where are we watching?”
“Let’s go to my place. Home theater.” Du Lingyan toyed with her pale hand playfully. If Du Lingyan were a boy, this would have looked exactly like some kind of smooth-talking flirt.
Gan Qingyun tolerated the teasing and replied, “Alright. Let’s go.”
When the car reached Zhong Xiaoxiao’s neighborhood, she pulled Meng Yuqing into a nearby supermarket restroom so she could change into the wig and boys’ school uniform.
Meng Yuqing was carrying a backpack, but it didn’t contain any wig or uniform like Zhong Xiaoxiao thought. Once she entered a private restroom, she asked the system to change her outfit.
System 666 said, “You’re starting to act more like a kind-hearted supporting character than a villain.”
Meng Yuqing replied, “What else can I do? Helping the female lead right now is the only way to keep the romantic plot moving.”
System 666 said, “Well, you’re not wrong.”
Meng Yuqing said, “Didn’t you hear her say her mom is against her dating? If her mom ruins this relationship, all our efforts will be wasted.”
System 666 responded, “That’s true. What you’re doing is still for the sake of the storyline.”
Meng Yuqing said confidently, “Of course.”
When she stepped out in her disguise, she looked exactly like a handsome high school boy. Her slightly long bangs framed a pair of sharp, almond-shaped eyes that were filled with spirit and charm. Her tall, straight nose and the small mole at the tip gave her a distinct and unforgettable look. Her lips were well-shaped and smooth, looking soft enough to kiss.
She had a well-proportioned, slender figure and wore the boys’ school uniform perfectly. A crisp white button-up shirt tucked neatly into fitted black dress pants, finished with a black leather belt and shiny black shoes. She looked clean, confident, and striking. Her appearance was so good it almost didn’t feel real.
As soon as she walked out of the restroom, she bumped into two girls entering. When they saw her, they both let out a loud scream and immediately ran out. Once outside, they double-checked the sign and confirmed it was indeed the women’s restroom. They looked back at her with confused and embarrassed expressions, clearly wondering if she had walked into the wrong place.
“I’m a girl,” Meng Yuqing said casually.
“Oh, oh, sorry. We didn’t recognize you…” The girls quickly apologized.
Only after apologizing did they realize how incredibly attractive she looked. “Wow, she’s so handsome,” one of them whispered. Who knew a girl could look this good?
The two girls were so mesmerized by her appearance that they completely forgot why they went to the restroom in the first place.
Outside, Zhong Xiaoxiao had heard the scream and rushed over, only to find the two girls openly swooning over Meng Yuqing. She was speechless.
Thanks to her deep-rooted impression of Meng Yuqing as a classic villainess, Zhong Xiaoxiao had never really noticed how beautiful or, in this case, how handsome she could be.
“Are you ready?” Zhong Xiaoxiao walked over and asked.
“All set.” Meng Yuqing casually slung an arm over her shoulder. “Let’s go.”
Since she knew Meng Yuqing was a girl, Zhong Xiaoxiao didn’t feel uncomfortable at all. She let her keep her arm there, and the two of them left the supermarket together and headed to her house.
Meng Yuqing looked like a boy on the outside, and to strangers, her appearance was hard to distinguish as male or female. But her voice still gave her away. It was clearly feminine, which was the only obvious sign of her true gender.
Zhong Xiaoxiao whispered to her, reminding her to watch for her cues and greet the curious neighbors naturally. That way, people would recognize that she was a girl in disguise, not a boy. Meng Yuqing agreed and did exactly as instructed. Still, there were a few who didn’t get the message and began gossiping that Zhong Xiaoxiao had brought a boy home. Shameless, they said.
By the time Zhong Xiaoxiao and Meng Yuqing reached the house, they were already exhausted from all the stares.
“My mom’s coming home soon,” Zhong Xiaoxiao warned, trying to stay sharp. “Just talk to her like normal. Don’t say anything unnecessary, okay? And definitely don’t let her know you have a brother.”
“I got it. I’m not stupid,” Meng Yuqing replied with a smile. When she smiled like that, she really did look like Meng Yuzhou. It made Zhong Xiaoxiao feel like she was trapped in some kind of time warp.
Zhong Yuanyuan came back not long after. Before she even reached the front door, she had already heard rumors that her daughter brought a boy home. She rushed back in a panic, worried something inappropriate had happened.
But the moment she stepped inside and was about to explode with anger, a familiar voice greeted her.
“Auntie, you’re home.”
It was Meng Yuqing’s voice, though the person looked very much like a boy.
“Um, this…” Zhong Yuanyuan hesitated, glancing toward Zhong Xiaoxiao, clearly waiting for an explanation.
“Mom, this is Meng Yuqing. You told me to bring her home so you could meet her,” Zhong Xiaoxiao said helplessly.
“Oh, Xiaoqing. I didn’t even recognize you dressed like that,” Zhong Yuanyuan said with an awkward smile. “Honestly, if I didn’t know better, I would’ve thought Xiaoxiao brought home a boyfriend.”
