I Fall Every Time I Meet an Alpha [Transmigrated into a Book] - Chapter 17
How dare Meng Yuqing and Zhong Xiaoxiao team up to fool her. Gan Qingyun’s anger toward Meng Yuzhou quickly shifted. Now, her hatred was directed even more at Meng Yuqing and Zhong Xiaoxiao.
She thought about how Meng Yuqing always treated her coldly, yet spoke so warmly to Zhong Xiaoxiao, even calling her sister-in-law. How could she not feel bitter? The way things had turned out today was all because of those two.
If it weren’t for them, Meng Yuzhou would have fallen in love with her. She was certain of that.
“Let’s go have a drink,” Du Lingyan said as she wrapped her arm around Gan Qingyun’s waist and led her away.
Gan Qingyun snapped out of her thoughts when she felt the closeness of that touch. She looked down slightly at the hand on her waist. Something felt strange. What exactly was Du Lingyan’s goal in getting close to her? Two omegas had no future together. Was she out of her mind?
Even if she was, Gan Qingyun did not care anymore. Right now, she only wanted revenge. She wanted Meng Yuqing and Zhong Xiaoxiao to understand just how angry she really was.
“Du Lingyan, I hate Meng Yuqing and Zhong Xiaoxiao. Will you help me?”
“You want my help?” Du Lingyan leaned her head against Gan Qingyun’s shoulder. Her tone was casual, but her actions felt a little too intimate.
“I do.”
“What do I get in return?”
“What do you want?”
“I want you to join us.”
“Alright. I agree.”
Gan Qingyun had thought Du Lingyan would make an unreasonable demand. She never expected it would just be something as simple as joining their group. She agreed without hesitation.
Du Lingyan smiled slightly when she saw how quickly she gave in.
A short distance behind them, Xie Baojun was walking with Li Shiting. Watching how close Gan Qingyun and Du Lingyan had become made him feel uncomfortable. Ever since Gan Qingyun showed up, their leader had barely paid attention to the rest of them. Now she was even joining the group. Would their leader only care about her from now on?
As the two girls walked farther ahead, Xie Baojun slowed down and asked Li Shiting in a low voice, “What do you think about the boss letting her join us?”
Li Shiting smiled and said, “What do I think? It’s not my decision. I don’t really care.”
“You really don’t have an opinion? What about the others?” Xie Baojun turned to look at a boy and a girl walking behind them. They both shook their heads.
“Nothing.”
Xie Baojun felt frustrated but had no one to take it out on.
“Don’t worry. Gan Qingyun is just an omega,” Li Shiting said, trying to reassure him. “She can’t compete with an alpha.”
Hearing that helped Xie Baojun calm down a little. Two omegas could never have a future together anyway.
“The boss probably just sees her as a sister. Why are you overthinking it?” Li Shiting added. “Let’s hurry up. If she turns around and doesn’t see us, she’ll definitely get annoyed.”
The four of them sped up to catch up, but Du Lingyan was still speaking to Gan Qingyun in that same soft, suggestive tone. Hearing it made the group behind them unconsciously slow down again.
Xie Baojun still felt uneasy, but he kept it to himself for now.
Meanwhile, Zhong Xiaoxiao had just survived an exhausting and chaotic day. In the end, the male lead had taken her home. Being with him made her feel nervous. She was worried he might suddenly try to kiss her or hug her. If that happened, what would she do?
Luckily, he did nothing.
Now, lying on her bed and staring up at the ceiling, Zhong Xiaoxiao felt a little bored and restless.
The relationship between the male and female leads was finally back on track. That meant the appearance of the story’s vicious supporting character was likely coming soon.
She sighed.
After lying there for a while, lost in thought, she let out another sigh.
“Xiaoxiao, dinner’s ready!” her mother, Zhong Yuanyuan, called from outside the room.
“Okay,” Zhong Xiaoxiao replied weakly.
Zhong Yuanyuan did not hear her clearly, so she walked over and knocked on the door. “Come eat. What are you doing hiding in your room all day?”
Zhong Xiaoxiao opened the door and faced her mother’s nagging head-on. “I’m coming.”
“Did you already eat outside?” Zhong Yuanyuan narrowed her eyes, clearly suspicious. Then something seemed to click in her mind. “I heard a boy brought you home. What are you doing? You’re supposed to be focusing on school, not dating.”
She was dating, but how could she admit that? If she told the truth, Zhong Yuanyuan would probably tear the whole house apart.
“I’m hungry. Let’s just eat,” Zhong Xiaoxiao said, quickly changing the subject as she walked toward the dining table.
“I’m talking to you, Zhong Xiaoxiao. Are you in a relationship?”
“I’m not.”
“Then what about that boy who brought you home?”
“What boy?”
“Stop pretending you don’t know.”
Zhong Xiaoxiao let out a quiet sigh and explained helplessly, “That was Meng Yuqing. She’s the girl who came to our house last time. You’ve seen her before. I don’t know what got into her, but she suddenly cut her hair and started wearing a boys’ school uniform. She looks like a guy now, but it’s really her. If you don’t believe me, I’ll bring her over sometime so you can see for yourself.”
“Was it really her?” Zhong Yuanyuan still sounded unsure. “You’re not lying to me, are you?”
“It was her. I’m not lying,” Zhong Xiaoxiao said in her heart. This was bad. Now she had to go convince Meng Yuqing to act again. If her mother didn’t believe the story, then the relationship between the male and female leads would get torn apart again.
Zhong Xiaoxiao felt completely drained. One problem wasn’t even solved before the next one came along.
The next day, Zhong Xiaoxiao had no choice but to go look for Meng Yuqing.
“Meng Yuqing, I need a favor.”
“What is it, sister-in-law?” Meng Yuqing smiled at her.
Zhong Xiaoxiao looked around carefully to make sure no one was nearby before she spoke. “My mom found out that your brother walked me home. She’s really against me dating. I told her it was you, and that’s the only reason she calmed down. Now she wants to meet you. Can you pretend to be a boy again and help me get past her?”
“You might as well bring my brother straight to your mom. That would save a lot of trouble.”
“She’d kill me,” Zhong Xiaoxiao said, glaring at her. “You sure know how to call me sister-in-law, but when your sister-in-law needs a small favor, you’re not willing to help?”
“If my sister-in-law needs help, of course I’ll help.” Meng Yuqing reached out and put her arm around Zhong Xiaoxiao’s shoulder. She leaned in close and whispered, “But what about my brother? He can’t recognize me. If he sees me going to your house, this could blow up into something big.”
Oh, right. Zhong Xiaoxiao remembered the issue too. Meng Yuzhou really couldn’t tell his own sister apart. He had been jealous with full sincerity, unable to see through the disguise. If he saw Meng Yuqing at her house, who knew what kind of scene he would cause?
Zhong Xiaoxiao started to feel annoyed. One lie required a dozen more to cover it up. This was getting out of hand.
They had come this far. All she could do now was take things one step at a time.
“Just tell your brother you’re going to my house, and once you get there, you can change. My mom usually comes home a bit later. We can get everything ready before she arrives.”
“What about when I leave?” Meng Yuqing asked with another sharp question. “I go in as a girl and come out as a boy? You expect me to change back in front of your mom?”
Zhong Xiaoxiao was speechless. Meng Yuqing’s thinking was surprisingly thorough. This made her realize that if Meng Yuqing ever became her enemy, she would be completely doomed. Even having the script wouldn’t save her.
It seemed the fate of the female lead was always to be bullied by the villainess.
Meng Yuqing listened calmly to Zhong Xiaoxiao’s inner complaints and waited patiently for her to speak.
“Then wait until your brother goes home, and we’ll head to my place after that. Call your family’s housekeeper to make sure he’s already back. Once he’s there, we can move.”
Meng Yuqing didn’t object. She just gave Zhong Xiaoxiao a crooked smile.
“Zhong Xiaoxiao, why does it feel like we’re sneaking around behind my brother’s back, like we’re having an affair?”
