I Fall Every Time I Meet an Alpha [Transmigrated into a Book] - Chapter 19
“This style just feels more unique,” Meng Yuqing said casually, offering a perfectly reasonable explanation.
“Mom, she’s just expressing herself. She likes to be different,” Zhong Xiaoxiao chimed in. “It’s always those nosy aunties who love to gossip.”
“Alright, alright, I get it,” Zhong Yuanyuan said, starting to feel a bit awkward in front of a guest. “Have you two eaten yet? Let me go make something for you. You two go ahead and hang out.”
“Then we’ll go to my room. I have a few questions I want to ask you,” Zhong Xiaoxiao said, giving Meng Yuqing a meaningful glance.
“Sure,” Meng Yuqing replied obediently.
The two of them went into the room together.
As soon as Meng Yuqing stepped into Zhong Xiaoxiao’s room, she was hit by an overwhelming wave of cuteness. Every time she came in here, she couldn’t help but laugh. The decor was so soft and girly, it didn’t match Zhong Xiaoxiao’s personality at all.
“So, what questions did you want to ask me?” Meng Yuqing looked directly at Zhong Xiaoxiao.
“Nothing, really. I just needed an excuse to get us into the room,” Zhong Xiaoxiao replied, striking a host-like pose. “Make yourself comfortable.”
Meng Yuqing stared at her and said, “Didn’t you tell my brother you were bad at math and needed me to tutor you?”
“Oh, that…” Zhong Xiaoxiao tried to change the subject. She really wasn’t in the mood to deal with math right now.
After living as an office worker for so long, she had completely accepted the idea of just lying flat and not stressing out. Besides, this wasn’t her life to begin with. She was just borrowing someone else’s story and didn’t feel any real sense of ownership or motivation to work hard.
Romance novels were all about relationships anyway. The female lead was usually bad at studying, while the male lead was always top of the class. Over time, their academic bond would turn into love.
Since that was the setup, did it even matter whether she worked hard or not?
“You’re doing poorly but still refuse to study. How do you expect to be good enough for my brother?” Meng Yuqing said teasingly, clearly picking up on her thoughts.
“Well, your brother likes me just the way I am,” Zhong Xiaoxiao snapped back. “What are you going to do about it?”
“Oh? Are you asking me to do something about it?” Meng Yuqing’s lips curled into a sly smile as she slowly stepped forward.
Zhong Xiaoxiao instinctively backed away, step by step, her heart pounding. “What… what are you doing? This is my house!”
“I know it’s your house. That’s why you should stay quiet,” Meng Yuqing whispered with a grin. “Otherwise, your mom might hear us.”
Seeing the look on her face, Zhong Xiaoxiao suddenly remembered the time Meng Yuqing had kissed her. That image flashed through her mind, and she swallowed hard.
Was she going to do it again?
She’s lost her mind.
She’s supposed to be the villainess. There had to be limits to this kind of teasing.
“Stop! Don’t come any closer!” Zhong Xiaoxiao panicked and reached out to push Meng Yuqing away, but her hand accidentally landed somewhere it definitely shouldn’t have.
Zhong Xiaoxiao gave a startled squeeze.
Meng Yuqing looked down at her hand still resting on her chest and let out a soft laugh. “Zhong Xiaoxiao, you’re kind of pervy.”
Oh no, that was not on purpose. Help. Someone, save me.
Zhong Xiaoxiao quickly pulled her hand back and apologized with a red face. “That… I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to…”
The whole situation was incredibly awkward. Sure, Meng Yuqing was a girl, but they both knew what just happened couldn’t be brushed off so easily.
Zhong Xiaoxiao coughed and pretended to act serious, raising a fist to her mouth. “Actually, I’ve suddenly become very interested in reviewing math. Why don’t you help tutor me a bit?”
She had originally told Meng Yuzhou that Meng Yuqing was coming over to tutor her, and now she was finally making that excuse real.
Reluctantly, Zhong Xiaoxiao sat down at the desk and pulled out a math worksheet from her bag. A heavy sigh weighed on her heart. She hadn’t looked at this kind of thing in years.
She went to class every day, but her mind had never once been on studying.
Of course she didn’t understand any of it.
Meng Yuqing followed her lead, pulled up a chair, and sat close beside her. “Which question do you need help with?”
Zhong Xiaoxiao froze slightly when she felt how close she was. She wanted to say something, but then thought, this wasn’t a big deal. Tutoring usually meant sitting close anyway. There was no need to overreact.
If I don’t feel embarrassed, then the awkwardness belongs to someone else.
She told herself that over and over again as she braced for the lesson.
While Meng Yuqing leaned in to look at the worksheet, she was also quietly listening to Zhong Xiaoxiao’s inner thoughts. They were highly entertaining.
“This one,” Zhong Xiaoxiao muttered, flipping the page and pointing randomly at a difficult-looking problem. She vaguely remembered how to solve it, but her memory was too fuzzy to be useful. She didn’t feel motivated to actually figure it out either.
“This one?” Meng Yuqing glanced at it and instantly calculated the answer in her mind. She grabbed Zhong Xiaoxiao’s pen and began writing quickly in the blank space beside the question. “You do this, then this, and finally this. It’s pretty simple.”
Zhong Xiaoxiao stared blankly at the paper. What do you mean, this and that? What part of this is simple?
“You still don’t get it?” Meng Yuqing gave her a side glance and said affectionately, “You really are a bit slow.”
What kind of cheesy line was that? Zhong Xiaoxiao felt like her brain was short-circuiting. For a moment, she genuinely wondered if Meng Yuqing had somehow switched roles and stolen the male lead’s script.
Dressed like this, Meng Yuqing really did look like a second version of Meng Yuzhou. No wonder she was getting confused.
When the villainess started talking to her like that, Zhong Xiaoxiao felt goosebumps rising all over her arms.
She shivered for real, trying hard to stay in character. “So this is how you solve it? Oh, okay, I get it…”
But her inner voice was screaming: Who cares anymore? Whether I understand or not doesn’t matter. The female lead is supposed to be love-struck anyway! The future depends on the male lead! As long as I cling tightly to his leg, everything will be fine!
“What are you thinking about, sister-in-law?” Meng Yuqing asked with a teasing tone, having heard her inner thoughts. “You think you can enter the Meng family with grades like this?”
“Tsk tsk,” Meng Yuqing clicked her tongue and shook her head. “This is pathetic. Even if my brother agrees, I wouldn’t.”
“What does this have to do with you?” Zhong Xiaoxiao was starting to feel annoyed at being insulted so directly. “It’s not like I’m dating you.”
“Zhong Xiaoxiao,” Meng Yuqing said, raising an eyebrow. “You’re dating my brother. That makes me your sister-in-law. If you’re not getting along with me, then who exactly do you expect to get along with, hmm?”
“Alright, alright, I’ll get along with you. Just stop bringing up your brother. If my mom hears you…” That would be the end of everything.
After some back-and-forth banter, they had nothing else to do, so Zhong Xiaoxiao asked Meng Yuqing to explain another math problem.
Meng Yuqing spoke fast, breezing through the problem. Zhong Xiaoxiao was completely lost. Her head was spinning like mush.
This was torture. Wouldn’t doing nothing be better than this? Why was she subjecting herself to this kind of suffering? She had long since lost all love for math. Why was she even trying to study it again?
Why?
Zhong Xiaoxiao screamed silently in her heart. Mom, isn’t dinner ready yet? Please save me!
