- I Didn’t Want to Fall, but My Arch-Nemesis Is Just Too Handsome
- Chapter 3 - We Are Married, Yet You Say We Are Not Close?
Jiang Xu stared at the man in front of him, then patted his shoulder with a look of sympathy. “You are still so young, yet you have already developed delusions! Go to the hospital and get checked out. Do not go out and bring trouble to others.”
Xu Zhiyan replied, “I am telling the truth.”
“I say you are really as ugly as you are delusional.” Jiang Xu rolled his eyes. “If you really were my spouse, I would take your surname.”
Xu Zhiyan countered, “Taking my surname is not entirely out of the question.”
“Get lost! Do not force me to hit you.”
Jiang Xu flexed his fist at Xu Zhiyan. Although he was only a B-grade Omega, he was still quite strong.
Xu Zhiyan gripped his hand. Before Jiang Xu could pull it back, he placed his mobile phone into Jiang Xu’s palm.
“This is our electronic marriage certificate.”
Jiang Xu lowered his head quickly and saw the photo on the screen. He and Xu Zhiyan were standing side by side, their posture appearing incredibly intimate. In particular, his own expression looked like he was smiling like a total fool.
Jiang Xu: ?!!!
This was not him. It definitely was not!
“Xu Zhiyan, you have quite some nerve, forging a fake marriage certificate to fool me.”
Xu Zhiyan said, “You can check it online.”
“I will check it, even without you telling me to.”
Jiang Xu opened his phone, logged into the Civil Affairs Bureau website, and entered his ID number to check his personal marital status.
Jiang Xu: Married. Spouse: Xu Zhiyan.
Jiang Xu felt as if he had been struck by lightning. He stood there holding his phone for a long time, unable to recover his senses.
Shi Jin leaned his head over to look. When he saw the electronic marriage certificate, he let out a loud shout. “Ancestor, you have truly accomplished something! You actually tricked Film Emperor Xu into becoming your husband… Mmph!”
Jiang Xu covered his mouth. “Shut up! Who is tricking whom? He is clearly the one who tricked me into this marriage.”
Shi Jin’s eyes were full of doubt. He pulled Jiang Xu’s hand away and said, “Film Emperor Xu is an S-grade Alpha. Why would he bother to trick a B-grade Omega like you?”
“Are you looking down on Omegas, too?”
“That is not what I meant. Please, calm down.”
Shi Jin smiled meaningfully. “No wonder you said that bringing your spouse out would scare us to death. This is, indeed, quite frightening.”
Jiang Xu thought to himself: It did not scare you to death, but it has certainly scared me to death.
He tried hard to recall the past, yet he could not understand why he would have suddenly married Xu Zhiyan. The date on the marriage certificate was three months ago, but his memory of those three months was a complete blank.
While Jiang Xu struggled to remember, Shi Jin left. The scent of Alpha pheromones wafted through the air in the hospital room, overpowering the smell of disinfectant. Xu Zhiyan’s pheromones smelled like brandy. They were mellow, elegant, and crisp, with a hint of grape fruitiness and the woody scent of aged liquor. It was truly unique.
The intoxicating feeling made Jiang Xu’s head feel a bit dizzy. He shook his head, trying to drive the scent away.
A pair of hands cupped his face, steadying his head.
“Do not shake it! You have a head injury.”
Xu Zhiyan’s voice was too gentle, and Jiang Xu was not used to it. “You, try to be normal. Do not talk to me in that tone.”
Xu Zhiyan smiled enigmatically. “Does Xu Xu feel that I am not being gentle enough?”
Jiang Xu’s heart skipped a beat. This jerk is smiling so handsomely. Is he trying to kill me?
He stepped back, keeping as much distance from Xu Zhiyan as possible. “Whether you are gentle or not has nothing to do with me; we are not even close.”
“We are on a marriage certificate, yet you say we are not close?”
Xu Zhiyan walked to Jiang Xu’s side and lowered his gaze, his peach-blossom eyes bewitching. Jiang Xu’s head began to spin again. He felt as if a bottle of brandy had been opened and was evaporating into the air. The wine fragrance grew thicker. The scent was intoxicating, making one want to sink into it.
Jiang Xu gathered a sliver of rationality and covered his nose. “Xu Zhiyan, you are not allowed to release your pheromones on me.”
This jerk is relying on being an Alpha to try and suppress me with his pheromones. He is just as rotten as he has always been.
Xu Zhiyan blinked, his expression looking very innocent. “I did not!”
Jiang Xu’s eyes widened. Is Xu Zhiyan acting coquettishly toward me?
In his memory, every time he met Xu Zhiyan, they were at each other’s throats, looking at one another with disdain. Xu Zhiyan always looked at him with a playful gaze, as if he were looking at a small pet, appearing as though no matter how much trouble Jiang Xu caused, it could never pose a threat to him.
It was the first time he had seen Xu Zhiyan so gentle, his tone of voice even softer than before. This man’s behavior was far too bizarre.
“You! What exactly are you trying to do?” Jiang Xu’s eyes were full of caution. “What is your purpose for marrying me?”
“Xu Xu, you have too deep a prejudice against me. We married of our own free will. The marriage application has your signature and your thumbprint, and there is even a love declaration from you at the Civil Affairs Bureau.”
Xu Zhiyan curved his eyes and said, “On the day we registered, you were very happy. You even said you wanted to announce our marriage on Weibo after one hundred days of marriage.”
“Announce it my foot! I must have been coerced by you.”
Jiang Xu’s memory had a gap from three months ago, back when he and Xu Zhiyan were still arch-rivals who could not stand the sight of each other. In such a short time, it was impossible for his attitude toward Xu Zhiyan to have flipped, and he could not possibly have accepted a man who looked down on him.
“I remain skeptical of our marriage. I think there is something wrong with it,” Jiang Xu said, enunciating every word. “I want a divorce.”
Xu Zhiyan’s pupils constricted. This was his precious treasure, whom he had spent so much effort to trick into his life; how could he possibly get a divorce?
“The Civil Affairs Bureau does not accept divorce applications for marriages with a 100% compatibility rating.” Xu Zhiyan reached out and touched Jiang Xu’s hair, smiling with his eyes curved. “So, you will be my spouse for the rest of your life.”
Jiang Xu felt the world collapsing before his eyes! Was this Xu Zhiyan’s revenge on him? It was too ruthless! At the thought of being tied to his arch-rival for a lifetime, Jiang Xu went frantic. “Xu Zhiyan, I will kill you!”
He lunged forward, preparing to strangle Xu Zhiyan, but a wave of dizziness hit him. Jiang Xu crashed into Xu Zhiyan’s arms. “Damn it! My head!”
“If you have a head injury, then behave yourself.” Xu Zhiyan leaned over, picked him up, and placed him back on the hospital bed.
Shi Jin pushed the door open just in time to see this scene. He quickly backed out. “I will just head out now. I really did not see anything…”
Jiang Xu: !!!!
“No, you misunderstood!” Jiang Xu shouted at Shi Jin’s back. “It is not what you think.”
After Shi Jin ran out of the room, he poked his head back in. “You two have already gotten a marriage certificate; whatever you do is normal. I understand! I understand everything!”
You understand nothing! Jiang Xu muttered to himself.
