I Became the Cure for the Cursed Prince - Chapter 109
The words didn’t feel real.
Even when Lucas agreed to become the Crown Princess after their bonding, he had never once imagined he might become pregnant.
He knew he should be happy—this should have been joyous news.
But his mind had gone completely blank.
On the other hand, Lucas’ face had lit up.
At the sight of it, Leon spoke before he could stop himself.
“…No. Absolutely not.”
Lucas turned to look at him.
Leon’s eyes were cold and sunken, his brow tightly furrowed.
Why was he reacting like this to the news of a pregnancy? Was he just as shocked as Lucas?
But it wasn’t that.
“I studied medicine too. I know what this means,” Leon said, his voice trembling.
“A recessive omega… even if they get pregnant, they can’t survive childbirth. The moment the baby is born—”
Leon couldn’t bring himself to finish the sentence.
He buried his face in his hands, rubbing it roughly.
Watching him, Lucas could easily guess what he hadn’t said aloud.
Of course Leon was scared.
Giving birth as a recessive omega was even more dangerous than bonding—it meant risking his life.
“Leon,” Lucas called out softly.
“Don’t. Don’t even try to convince me.”
Leon lowered his hands from his face, revealing a look of pure terror.
His shoulders trembled.
Even without hearing the words, just by the way Leon was looking at the physician, Lucas could sense what he feared the doctor might say next.
Lucas turned firmly to the physician.
“Please, leave us.”
“Yes, of course… I’ll excuse myself,” the physician said, bowing and quickly stepping out.
Leon and Lucas were left alone, staring at each other in silence.
There was so much they wanted to say—but no words would come.
In Leon’s eyes, emotions flickered one after another: sadness, fear, helplessness.
His gaze shook endlessly before finally freezing in place.
Lucas, wanting to comfort him, slowly rose from the bed and approached.
But Leon stumbled back with each step Lucas took toward him, retreating as if afraid.
What could he say?
What words would ease Leon’s fear?
Pregnancy wasn’t just a difficult choice for Leon—it was a terrifying one for Lucas, too.
There was a very real chance he might not survive.
And yet… Lucas couldn’t bring himself to easily give up this new life growing inside him.
All his life, Lucas had wondered why he had been abandoned at the orphanage, why he had never known his parents.
Why did parents give up their children?
What was it about ‘traits’ and why was he born a recessive omega to begin with?
Everyone at the orphanage had told him the same thing:
He was abandoned because he was a recessive omega, because he was worthless.
Now, Lucas found himself in the position to become a parent.
The circumstances were different, but the root cause—his nature—was the same.
And just as he had broken free from the curse, he wanted to overcome the limits of his trait too.
Leon’s back hit the wall as he kept retreating.
Lucas slowly reached out, carefully cupping Leon’s frozen, cold face with his hands.
He caressed it gently, trying to warm him with his touch, and spoke.
“I don’t want to lose again.”
“Don’t say anything. I’m still thinking,” Leon muttered.
But Lucas already knew what Leon’s conclusion would be.
Even without hearing it, he could feel it.
Leon would do everything in his power to prevent this birth.
If their roles were reversed, Lucas knew he would probably do the same.
That’s why he couldn’t give Leon time to think.
“If I have you, I feel like I can overcome anything. What about you?” Lucas asked softly.
Leon’s voice was sharp as he answered, “What are you talking about?”
Still, even as he spoke harshly, Leon didn’t pull away from Lucas’ hand on his cheek.
“Just like I overcame the curse, I think I can overcome this too. Leon,” Lucas said gently.
“…”
Leon stayed silent, but his eyes were filled with turmoil.
“In another world,” Lucas continued, “I was still a recessive omega.
Back there, being recessive meant you were something parents abandoned, a toy for any alpha to use and discard.
It wasn’t just dangerous—it was impossible to dream of marriage or family.
It was a brand that made it impossible to hope for anything normal.”
“What…?” Leon’s pupils shook violently.
He knew that even here, recessive omegas faced discrimination—but not to that horrific extent.
Lucas spoke steadily, almost serenely.
“My wish back then was so simple. To live like any ordinary person. To grow old, to find someone to love, to raise a child in a warm, safe place.”
Leon bit his lip hard to keep himself from breaking down.
He tried so desperately not to waver.
No matter how much he loved the idea of their child, if it meant losing Lucas—he could never love that child.
The thought made tears stream down his face uncontrollably.
When Lucas reached out again, Leon caught his arm firmly.
“No. I won’t let it happen.”
Leon shook off Lucas’ arm and turned away.
But Lucas grabbed him tightly, desperately refusing to let go.
“Leon, calm down. There’s no rule that says it has to end in tragedy,” Lucas said gently.
“Don’t try to convince me,” Leon choked out. “I can’t… I can’t lose you again.”
Finally, Leon broke down and cried.
He had tried to hold back, but the tears wouldn’t stop.
Of course, he was happy about the child.
Born into a royal family where heirs were rare, and even more—this child would be Lucas’ child.
Leon, more than anyone, longed to see a child who shared Lucas’ beautiful eyes and gentle smile.
“Leon…” Lucas called out softly.
“I’m scared,” Leon confessed, voice breaking. “I’m so scared I feel like I might lose my mind.”
Lucas could only watch him, heart aching as Leon covered his face with trembling hands and sobbed.
“Even if you’re scared, you can’t run away,” Lucas said quietly. “This time, you have to be the one who stands strong—for me. Because all this time, I was the one…”
Leon shook his head violently, covering his ears with his hands, trying not to hear him.
Lucas gently reached out and pulled Leon’s wrists down.
“I kept running away too,” Lucas continued, his voice steady. “I ran from the Theian Empire, scared it would tear us apart. I tried to push you away, thinking it would protect you from harm.
But every time I ran, things only got worse.”
Lucas locked eyes with Leon.
Leon’s golden eyes, usually so brilliant, were blurred with tears, glittering like broken shards.
But that sparkle quickly faded; the tears dried on his lashes, and his gaze turned cold, empty.
Even the hand Lucas had been holding slipped away.
“Stop it,” Leon said hoarsely, his voice trembling. “It’s pointless.”
Lucas could only watch Leon’s back as he turned away, bitterly.
“Pointless? We’re talking about our child,” Lucas said, refusing to back down.
He stubbornly closed the distance between them and kept speaking.
“How much more do you have to hurt me before it’s enough?
Since the moment I met you, I’ve lived in fear—fear that you’d leave me.
And even after we were married… even now…”
Leon’s voice broke into a near-cry.
He turned and gave Lucas a wounded look, full of anger and sadness, before storming out of the room.
Lucas stood alone, staring blankly at the tightly closed door.
He couldn’t help but think:
From the very beginning, had he only brought Leon pain and anxiety?
If only he had realized sooner that every action he took to protect Leon had instead left new scars—
If only he had held Leon closer back then.
Lucas started to chase after him but stopped.
Instead, he returned to the bed and lay down.
His heart wouldn’t stop pounding painfully.
Leon wandered down the long corridor in a daze.
He had left the room because he knew if he stayed, Lucas’ words would eventually persuade him.
But now that he was out here, he had nowhere to go.
He sat down heavily at the end of the hallway, near the staircase, and thought it over.
But there was only one conclusion.
No matter what, he had to protect Lucas.
Even if it meant sacrificing everything else.
But… would Lucas ever agree?
At that moment, he heard footsteps coming up the stairs.
“Lucas called for a physician?” a sharp voice said.
“Is he sick?”
It was Michelle.
One look at her face told Leon that she already knew everything.
The physician must have reported to her immediately after leaving.
“Why are you pretending you don’t know?” Leon said bitterly.
“…Well, whatever the case, shouldn’t the one who hurt Lucas be staying far away right now?” Michelle snapped, her eyes flashing.
It was typical of her—pretending to be detached when she actually cared about Lucas more than anyone.
“You’re right. It’s all my fault,” Leon admitted, standing up stiffly.
“But don’t worry. I won’t let him be hurt any further.”
Michelle narrowed her eyes suspiciously.
“You won’t hurt him, huh?”
Leon straightened and met her gaze squarely.
“Yes. I won’t.”
“And how exactly do you plan to do that?” Michelle said, her voice low. “What are you planning to do about the child that’s already there?”
“……”
Leon couldn’t answer.
He should have said something reassuring.
After all, there was an herb—one found only in the Theian Empire—known to safely terminate a pregnancy.
It was discovered through studying the bodies of recessive omegas.
He should have told her there was nothing to worry about.
But he couldn’t bring himself to say the words.
