Husband, Let Your Husband Treat Your Illness - Chapter 12
Chapter 12
“Mo! Open the door right now! Mo!” Except for the Ye family patriarch, who was too elderly, the entire Ye clan young and old was gathered outside Ye Mo’s door. They were pounding on the wood and shouting for him to open up, terrified that he might do something drastic. “Mo! It’s all your big brother’s fault. I’m apologizing to you on his behalf,” said Huang Na, Ye Xi’s wife. “Mo, please come out. You’re making the family so worried. Mo!” “That’s right, Xiao Mo, we’ll deal with your big brother, don’t you worry about him!” The collective shouting of the family had no effect; Ye Mo remained inside, his door tightly shut.
At that moment, Dongfang Jin pushed through the crowd and stood before the door. He tapped gently and said, “Mo, it’s me. They’ve all left. Can you open the door now?” Only a “Thud!” was heard from inside, as if something had been smashed against the door. Dongfang Jin continued, “Mo, really, they’re all gone. It’s just me.” Silence followed, but a second later, a small slip of paper slid out from under the door: Have they really all left?
Seeing the note, Dongfang Jin knew there was a chance. He gestured for everyone by the door to disperse and leave the matter to him. Everyone scattered, though Ye Mo’s parents, the fourth branch couple, looked at Dongfang Jin with eyes full of approval and immense satisfaction. Once the hall was empty, Dongfang Jin took out a fountain pen he carried, wrote a sentence on the note, and slid it back under the door. The door opened. Upon entering, Dongfang Jin found the floor covered in glass shards, with a sliver of sunlight resting on Ye Mo, who was sitting by the window. “Mo, what’s wrong?” Dongfang Jin stepped forward to ask, testing the waters of Ye Mo’s mood.
Ye Mo didn’t speak; he simply buried himself deep within a thick down coat. Seeing this “little ancestor”who was usually so aggressive showing such a vulnerable side, Dongfang Jin didn’t care about the reason; he only wanted to hold the fragile man in front of him. “Mo, don’t be afraid. I’m here.” Dongfang Jin hugged Ye Mo tightly, perhaps more forcefully than ever before. The two held each other in total silence, save for the sound of soft, rhythmic sobbing. Dongfang Jin looked down to see that Ye Mo had already cried himself into a mess. Unsure of the cause, he worried he had squeezed too hard. “Mo, did I hurt you?”
“No, no! You are very good.” Ye Mo practically trembled as he spoke these words. With tears and a runny nose, he no longer looked like the poised youth he usually was. Dongfang Jin couldn’t help but chuckle softly. “Mo, you don’t look very pretty when you cry like this. Today I finally saw what ‘pear blossoms bathed in rain’ looks like, and I thought it would be some glamorous sight. Turns out, the ancients weren’t entirely truthful.” Hearing this, Ye Mo burst into a laugh through his tears and jabbed Dongfang Jin in the stomach with his elbow. “Don’t take the opportunity to tease me.” “That’s it. My Mo looks best when he’s smiling.” The two smiled at each other, quietly watching the sun slowly dip below the horizon.
After a long silence, Ye Mo suddenly spoke. “Dongfang Jin, you’ve seen my family now. What do you think?” Dongfang Jin wasn’t sure how to evaluate them. His own clan was a massive family as well, and their eccentricities far surpassed those of the Ye family, so he was at a loss for words. “Don’t be shy, just say it,” Ye Mo urged.
“Mo, I think your family loves you very much. Even your sisters-in-law—they aren’t biologically Ye family members, but they were incredibly concerned about your behavior just now. I can tell. As for your big brother, I believe he also just wanted what was best for you in his own way.”
“Best for me? They all just want to compensate me.” This sentence left Dongfang Jin confused, but he didn’t know if he should ask. “I am the youngest child in the family. When I was born, my grandmother had already passed away; I don’t even know what she looked like. My grandfather was still running the company back then, so my father and uncles were extremely busy. My mother and aunts were also busy with their own careers; they had no time at all to look after us young ones.” Ye Mo paused, and Dongfang Jin didn’t dare interrupt, simply listening. “My brothers are much older than me. Even the youngest, Third Brother, is seven years older. When I was in elementary school, the Ye Corporation was going through its hardest times. My brothers were already managing branch offices while attending school. We had no common language.” Ye Mo paused again, and this time the silence felt very long. “Do you know what it feels like to come home every day to only servants? Back then, to me, this wasn’t a home. It was just a house, a house that only belonged to me.”
As he spoke, Ye Mo began to sob again, and even Dongfang Jin’s eyes grew misty as he held him. “Later, I was kidnapped on my way home. The trauma from that… I will never forget it as long as I live. It was from that moment on that the family started doting on me excessively. They stopped obsessing over business, yet ironically, the business only got better and better.” Ye Mo wasn’t finished. “But from that moment, I shut myself off. I became colder and colder toward my family, and they became more and more anxious until, finally, they pushed me to jump from right here.” Dongfang Jin’s eyes widened as he stared at the man he loved.
“You must be shocked. Why? I don’t know either. During that time, I felt like someone was tightly squeezing my throat, and I couldn’t breathe.” Ye Mo’s eyes held a trace of disbelief even now. “Since then, the family’s attitude toward me has been total ‘free-range.’ Well, now you know everything. This is who I am. Whether you still choose to love me is up to you.” Before Ye Mo could finish his last word, Dongfang Jin’s kiss pressed down on him. Unlike previous kisses, this one was filled with Dongfang Jin’s deep pity and heartache for this man.
Dongfang Jin pulled his lips away slightly, his dark, bright eyes staring into Ye Mo’s. “Mo, thank you for letting me know all this. I won’t let go of you. I will hold your hand until the day I die.” “Bah, bah, bah! What are you saying? Don’t talk about dying so casually!” “No! Mo, I know you don’t believe it yet, but please believe that our days together are long!” Ye Mo looked at Dongfang Jin’s determined gaze and said, “Fine! I will accompany you for those long days ahead.” The two remained snuggled by the window as the sunset faded and the stars began to peek out, dotting the bleak night sky. The moon, like the most beautiful princess of the night, watched over the perfect pair by the window.
A while later, accompanied by Dongfang Jin, Ye Mo returned to the main hall. Seeing the concerned expressions of his family, Ye Mo simply smiled and said, “I’m sorry for causing everyone trouble.” The family was stunned to hear such words from the little ancestor. They crowded around him, saying, “It’s nothing, Mo. Are you okay? Your big brother really didn’t mean it.”
“Sister-in-law, Dongfang Jin and I are going to make this work.” “I support you and Doctor Dongfang.” “That’s right, Xiao Mo, we all support you!”
Amidst the chatter of support, only the Ye family patriarch sat on the sofa in silence. Once the noise died down, he spoke. “Both of you, come here.” At his call, Ye Mo and Dongfang Jin immediately sat before him. “Xiao Mo, you chose the person, and you chose the path. As your grandfather, I represent our family in supporting this relationship. While you were locked in your room, we all saw Xiao Jin’s behavior. We can feel that he truly cares for you and treats you well. You said you want to try for a month, so go try. If you end up together, we’ll be happy for you. If not, we won’t say anything.” These words were a comfort to Ye Mo and an encouragement to Dongfang Jin.
“Thank you, Grandpa. Thank you, everyone. I will take good care of Xiao Mo. Forget one month, I’m willing to do this for a lifetime.” Before Ye Mo could say a word, Dongfang Jin was already overflowing with gratitude. “Don’t get too ahead of yourself. During this month, I can call it quits whenever I want.” Although Ye Mo said this, the door to his heart which had been shut for so long had unknowingly been given a key to the man in front of him. Perhaps even Ye Mo himself didn’t realize it.
“Good, very good. Are you two staying at home tonight?” the patriarch asked.
“No, Grandpa. We’re going back to our own place. Staying here would just give you all too much to gossip about!” Ye Mo had already seen what was on their minds. If he didn’t retreat now, when would he?
“Fine, you little brat. You come home and don’t even want to spend more time with this old man.”
“Grandpa, there will be plenty of time in the future. We’re heading out.”
“I’ll drive you!” Ye Huan offered.
On the way back, Ye Huan kept trying to fish for intel on the two of them, but it was useless. Ye Mo and Dongfang Jin didn’t speak a word; they just sat silently looking at each other, never growing tired of it.
“I say, you two have had enough. Don’t you get bored staring at each other every day?” Ye Huan finally couldn’t take it anymore.
“Third Brother, just drive the car! Stop talking nonsense!” Ye Mo had returned to his usual self, his mouth full of “venom.”
“You two are really affecting my driving mood. How am I supposed to drive properly?” Ye Huan stated a fact. He had rarely seen two men in love, and with a live example right in front of him, how could he pass up the chance?
“Third Brother, if you keep looking, we’re going to crash!” Dongfang Jin’s calm remark startled Ye Huan into grabbing the steering wheel tight and focusing on the road.
“Fine, fine, focusing on the road.”
They reached the apartment in silence. Ye Huan and Dongfang Jin helped Ye Mo back to the room, and then Ye Huan went home.
Just after washing up and returning to the room, Dongfang Jin realized they had forgotten about the follow-up exam. He’d have to find another time. Just as he was thinking this, he saw Ye Mo lying on the bed wearing only a bathrobe. Dongfang Jin couldn’t hold back anymore. He climbed onto the bed and said, “Mo, you’re too tempting. What is your ‘husband’ supposed to do?”
Ye Mo looked up from his latest financial magazine, his face blooming into a smile. “Go sleep on the sofa.”
Dongfang Jin felt a surge of frustration but refused to give up, pestering Ye Mo. To his surprise, Ye Mo actually began to respond. Dongfang Jin stared at Ye Mo’s crimson face. “Mo, you still dare to scold me?”
Despite Ye Mo’s various refusals, righteous indignation, and strong resistance, he was ultimately “eaten up” by Dongfang Jin. They spent a night of passion together.
Dongfang Jin would never know that Ye Mo kept the note he had written hidden in his pocket. On it, Dongfang Jin had written: The world has disappeared, but I am always here!
